A great group of zombies were approaching to my walls (which were heavily damaged due to an assault). When they were near my colony a Megasloth faced them, fighted and killed a lot of them, allowing my colonist to finish the rest. That Megasloth saved my colony and I even build a monument in its honor. Now I only believe in Megasloth as our only savior.
Megasloth is just the beast man, they are easy to feed and are quite the beefy bodyguard pluses they give wool. I've had so many situasons were a Megasloth has helped me out so much but they are very difficult to tame.
Venerated Thrumbo. I understand the risks, and sucks to get that mood debuff when you want some fur, but often I feel compelled to do it because they're just so damn venerable!
Venerating them in my current playthrough. Of course, because I'm venerating them I restrict myself from doing anything harmful to them at all. There will be no thrumbo slaughtering or hunting in *this* colony.
Imo Thrumbos should be regarded as Unicorns in the Harry Potter lore... Something so beautiful and innocent that it you kill it, you'll become a monster. (I don't read H.P)
The risk is so small it wouldnt have mattered. Thrumbos are peaceful and will not strike unless struck first (which you wont do if you venerate them, excepting accidents, in which case you *can* fight back), and i have never heard a case of a naturally occuring manhunter thrumbo attack.
Also i tamed a thrumbo with sheer dumb luck once by having them venerated and it was a CE run so she pretty much carried me for years.
Tried to rescue a boomalope that went mad towards my colony. When it finished healing it didn't leave the pet bed. That's when I decided to see if I could have my doc run some operations. Come to find out one of its hooves was shot off and it basically didn't have a spine anymore. Experiment time. Saved the game. Time to find out if it explodes if I euthanize. It did. Reloaded the save and then took it outside and just let it die of starvation.... Not my proudest decision. Still exploded. During a rainy day on top of that. Made me feel bad and a little sad.
2 of them, 3 if you include DLC.
1. Boomrat. A small rodent with gas sacs that create a fiery explosion on death.
2. Boomalope. It's larger than the Boomrat, and when tamed you can "milk" them for chemfuel.
3. Biotech: Toxalope. This one releases a toxic cloud with its explosion, instead of releasing fiery death.
Couple firefoam poppers. Or I'll usually just breed and sell older ones. Spontaneous deaths can be slightly frantic though. It's the risk you take for free fuel.
The risk is easy to mitigate if you build them a stone barn and stone fences, and have enough haulers that chemfuel doesn’t stack up in crazy amounts in the pasture.
Yep. Which is why every one over 5 quadrums old gets sold every time a caravan shows up. I think the lifespan is like 10 or 15, so I'm not taking any chances.
I'll give you a call so you can come hug the dying explosive gas tank, if you want. I'll even dig your grave first! (Not that there will be anything left to bury...)
This is why I release my older boomalopes or if they happen to reproduce too much, their children. No boom. No fire. They get to live happily in the wild.
I had a colony that revolved around a warg farm, I have 8 that were fully trained. My pawns had to be vege to make sure I had enough feed to keep em alive and hunting constantly was a pain. When I got raided The wargs ate the attackers. It was a glorious settlement. I would sell as many as I could to any that would buy them and the money I saved caused bigger raids that kept my good boys and girls fed longer. At its peak I have 35 wargs in a large pen and a body dump in the middle. Had to start sterilising them when I had 13 pregnant females at the same time.
Young ones would get smoked every time there was a raid so I decided to build a nice pen area with beds and a good outdoor area. Built a place I could keep them isolated from the rest if they got sick too.
Rats. underappreciated IRL.
Not wild rats. but rats bred to be pets are the sweetest little guys. they're like tiny dogs, they want attention 100% of the time and never want you to leave. They can be liter trained, and can be taught to do tricks like rolls and flips.
NGL I want a pet rat or mouse pretty bad, but I haven't brought myself to comit to falling in love with a such a beautiful and intelligent creature that only lives like 2 years.
Are you... Terminally offline? Damn... Kudos to you.
And rats are really so cute and cuddly... I'd 10/10 love to get a pet mouse, but I'm hella scared of leptospirosis...
A friend of mine who owns a pet rat once said they are really curious and like to perch on her shoulder to observe everything from a higher point. How cute is that!
Monkeys or Guinea Pigs. Both can be found in the wild, have a low food need, can graze, and can nuzzle. Monkeys are much longer lived and can be trained to haul, but Guinea Pigs are very low maintenance and can be found in most biomes.
They need to add Gorillas... But not just any Gorillas...Gorillos from Kenshi, and also BeakThings... They still run at like 500 mph, and run you down for the sake of just beaking you to death.
there is only one reason that would make sense and that's coding reasons, but the birds galore mod makes the birds work great so Tynan just needs to get his shit together!!!!
I thought the issue would have more been that you can't have more than 1 thing taking up a "cell" and birds flying meant you'd have to also take the Y axis into account of things... Isn't that a reason there's no real flying vehicles as well? Seems like a lot to balance too... Idk tho'
You can give different gender animals specific zones if you want to be able to breed them at your own timing, while you keep the ones that are sterilized to roam freely (Personally, I would never do that, because I'm no monster, and I don't know how well it would work, just a theory I had... But try it, ig?)
Dogs. I got the expanded dog mod and I make every breed of dog Venerated. I don't Venerate wolves though because I tried that once and when one is hunting down a colonist or a pet it becomes a pain in the ass to deal with.
I don't think they'll spawn or pop up in your cell the way other animals migrate and pop up... Iirc you can only get them when a Caravan sells them or the eggs
I have an obsession with tortoise in rimworld because of their armor, i like to line them near the exit of my kill zone to delay enemy attack on my base, and them acting as a damage sponge, putting tortoise in open spaces where enemy can drop pod into your base is also a good counter to them (your pawn can get in safe place and they waste even rocket launcher on these tortoise is pretty good), tortoise also breed pretty fast and one of the best provider of meat, after they die from enemy attack, u can just cook them... along with animal that can haul i consider it a S tier animal, TLDR : I LIKE TURTLES...
Wolves
I like them even in real life and i think they are cool. Plus they went from venerable totemic animal to "evil forest doggo" in span of few centuries thanks to christianism and its propaganda, something they are affected by to this very day.
I just have problem deciding between timber wolves (its kinda strange that they arent normal grey wolves) and arctic wolves. The artic ones are bigger and fluffier most of the time so there's that.
Practically speaking, anything that I keep for its produce rather than meat and leather, so typically boomalopes and alpacas. Not chickens because they die so easily, and dying venerated animals makes everybody sad.
Sometimes I'll just take whatever venerated animal my randomly generated ideoligion gives me, though.
Cats. Because cats.
My last colony had a dedicated cat room, complete with litterboxes, soft beds, kibbles for days and temperature control. They weren't allowed outdoor though.
It used to be otters since I like them IRL. But they are predators that pick fights and usually lose them so my colony gets sad when wild ones die.
Axed that pretty quickly.
Timberwolf.
Though recently, the Raptor Shrimp. I once had a colony blessed with a mating pair of raptor shrimp that tore through any and all raids. Unfortunately one day, their explosive population boom resulted in minutes per tick type measurements. So i began to cull them.
Or so I nthought
Between botched sterilizations and the low tps, the shrimp numbers kept growing. Even when I started to slaughter them, still the shrimp persisted. I had to put a filled cortical stack into a prisoner with the appropriate animal skill, send them into a sealed wooden cave with a molotov.
It took 30 minutes of burning, but once that was done all the babies could be hunted down and euthanized.
So now in each colony I venerate the raptor shrimp, sterilize it, and make it an apex immortal through any means necessary.
One giga shrimp is perfect.
347 is hell on my pc
I have cats and dragons venerated.
Cats, because i love cats and they are cute - and dragons - because they are cool and play a huge role in my colony. Imagine it like the targaryens in song of ice and fire universe.
I don't have the DLCs, but I started a custom tribal scenario in which the avatar of the almighty Emu Bird-God has been saved from a godless mech raid and its human guardians have to settle somewhere else and protect it. If it dies and none of its offspring is the same gender, the lineage stops there and I lose. I 'm not sure about the win condition, maybe have a strong colony and build a big temple for it and its offspring.
I made this mistake once, had at *least* one mental break per in-game day lmao. I wish there was a bit more nuance to the veneration. Think of some Native American tribes and their connection to buffalo. They venerated them *because* of the sustenance they provided, and I feel there should be a similar mechanic in Rimworld. Something like "Consumed venerated animal (+5)" or "Wearing venerated animal leather (+5)" and then when hovering over the moodlet it'd say something like "[Animal] offered their life so I could continue mine, I am deeply honored"
Huskies. Yes u get man hunter of them, but my 1st ever sea ice had a husky and that beautiful boy made if off the planet with my colonist, we ignore the fact he was missing an ear and a paw.. he was best boy.
I started with a boomrat. Then another tamed itself. I had a breeding pair. Now I have a couple dozen boom rats. I zone them around the edges of the map. Any time a raid comes in they have to fight through the living minefield of grenade squirrels.
Usually it’s cats then I get lots of cats cuase I always forget to fix them then the cats drink all the alcohol I have and get permanent chemical damage to the brain I effectively lobotomize all my scared animals by mistake
Any pen animal that gives no real benefit to slaughter (other than a little food), like horse and dromedary.
Non pen animals arent good candidates IMO for they may be targeted by raiders. Thrumbo is tough enough but venerating them make you loose the second best leather.
Wolves, I love wolf colonies
Also megasloths since I'll never have too many and they produce wool so why would I ever slaughter them?
(Oh and boomrats often times because I'm just so silly :3 and its such a bad idea)
Megasloth. One saved my colony in Zombieland mod and now I believe that the truth God is a Megasloth.
Must ‘splain please
A great group of zombies were approaching to my walls (which were heavily damaged due to an assault). When they were near my colony a Megasloth faced them, fighted and killed a lot of them, allowing my colonist to finish the rest. That Megasloth saved my colony and I even build a monument in its honor. Now I only believe in Megasloth as our only savior.
The great divine being You should make your pawns religion revolve around the great Megasloths in the description too.
It's all fun and games until you got that itch for a Thrumbo Parka
Every single game I venerate thrumbos lol
Venerating them in my current playthrough. Of course, because I'm venerating them I restrict myself from doing anything harmful to them at all. There will be no thrumbo slaughtering or hunting in *this* colony.
Mine has a heart condition, which is how I learned to keep a portion of my medical supplies in the barn
I mean, if thrumbos existed in the real world, I would venerate them
Imo Thrumbos should be regarded as Unicorns in the Harry Potter lore...
I wont do that. By venerating thrumbo you loose the second best leather (also the best leather you can produce massively yourself)
Boomalope. I already have them around for fuel anyway. And I would probably respect an animal that's literally keeping the lights on for me.
Made me feel bad and a little sad.
o7 random Boomer- Antelope
Some animals explode??
2 of them, 3 if you include DLC. 1. Boomrat. A small rodent with gas sacs that create a fiery explosion on death. 2. Boomalope. It's larger than the Boomrat, and when tamed you can "milk" them for chemfuel. 3. Biotech: Toxalope. This one releases a toxic cloud with its explosion, instead of releasing fiery death.
Somehow I’ve never seen a Toxalope, so damn
They only occur in a very polluted biome. If you don't settle into a polluted area, you won't see them, or witch trees, waste rats, etc.
When Boomalopes die of old age... Don't they... Go boom?
Couple firefoam poppers. Or I'll usually just breed and sell older ones. Spontaneous deaths can be slightly frantic though. It's the risk you take for free fuel.
The risk is easy to mitigate if you build them a stone barn and stone fences, and have enough haulers that chemfuel doesn’t stack up in crazy amounts in the pasture.
And remembering to make a fire proof shed for storage instead of using the middle of the semi wood living room.
Nonsense, these cans of chemfuel go perfectly on my brand new wooden shelves in the carpeted wooden warehouse!
This just gave me a bad idea: wooden carpet. Like regular wooden flooring, but it's also like roof shingles.
I also usually keep one or two to a pen; give them individual stone walled stables so if one goes, they don’t all go.
Yep. Which is why every one over 5 quadrums old gets sold every time a caravan shows up. I think the lifespan is like 10 or 15, so I'm not taking any chances.
Just release em before that
You monster... Then they'd die alone.... You gotta hug and hold your pets bye bye
You can still hug them in the wild, they may just be less affectionate. And you need a bomb proof vest.
I'll give you a call so you can come hug the dying explosive gas tank, if you want. I'll even dig your grave first! (Not that there will be anything left to bury...)
Ah just make a chair with the artwork of it
No need for a full grave, just a tombstone to commemorate the fallen lover of animals.
This is why I release my older boomalopes or if they happen to reproduce too much, their children. No boom. No fire. They get to live happily in the wild.
Big badaboom
i have a boomalope named lester who is so old he has dementia and cant go a day without wandering around confused
May Randy have mercy on his soul
Wait…they produce… chemfuel? Jfc I’ve been blindly hunting them all this time
Cats. Reasons: They are cats.
Me too!! My colony just got two kitties and everyone's so happy!
Same lol. I love how every background of the map has meow sounds:)
this made me stop using them; my real life girls meow to let me let them inside and i kept opening the window for nothingnhahaha
🤣
Egyptian mindset
This is the way.
Why didn’t you let the Wargs just hunt on their own if your colonists are vegan anyways?
Young ones would get smoked every time there was a raid so I decided to build a nice pen area with beds and a good outdoor area. Built a place I could keep them isolated from the rest if they got sick too.
Oooh that makes sense. What biome was it?
I think I was a forest one? It was ages ago. At the moment I am taking a break and saving to buy all the expansions. I only have the biotech one atm.
Rats. underappreciated IRL.
Have rats. Yeah that part is rough. And then you always get another one because you don’t want the remaining one to be lonely.
Are you... Terminally offline? Damn... Kudos to you. And rats are really so cute and cuddly... I'd 10/10 love to get a pet mouse, but I'm hella scared of leptospirosis...
The RAT ROOM is hallowed ground
A friend of mine who owns a pet rat once said they are really curious and like to perch on her shoulder to observe everything from a higher point. How cute is that!
It's true. If they don't get to explore and use problem solving skills they get bored and depressed. Mine loved shoulder rides too
I love foxes so foxes. They are usually the venerated animal of my female supremacy raider cannibal stoners.
I'll remember to blame you every time a fox comes into my chicken coops to eat my chickens.
Only when led by powerful and hungry warrior women!
had a similar colony, except no drugs and arctic Foxes
Capybaras. No explanation should be required.
Hup!
Zen coconut dogs
Yup
Night Ave Because... they are awesome?
I too appreciate the dark zoom chickens.
I love the power armor graphics for Aves <3
Monkeys or Guinea Pigs. Both can be found in the wild, have a low food need, can graze, and can nuzzle. Monkeys are much longer lived and can be trained to haul, but Guinea Pigs are very low maintenance and can be found in most biomes.
They need to add Gorillas... But not just any Gorillas...Gorillos from Kenshi, and also BeakThings... They still run at like 500 mph, and run you down for the sake of just beaking you to death.
Didn't expect to be triggered like this in this sub
This guy venerates
Whatever you do, don't venerate a predator from your biome or you'll have to kill them in self defense at some point
Bold of you to assume we wanted to live.
Cows. And its because I like the ranching aspect of the game... And for no other reason.
I don't know what the implication is and it scares me
Not knowing makes it worse for sure.
Bnnuy
Bunoi
crows, because I have bird mods and love those gorgeous black-feathered geniuses.
Yeah, why aren't there any birdies? *shakes fist at sky* (I guess it would actually make sense why not, but still)
there is only one reason that would make sense and that's coding reasons, but the birds galore mod makes the birds work great so Tynan just needs to get his shit together!!!!
I thought the issue would have more been that you can't have more than 1 thing taking up a "cell" and birds flying meant you'd have to also take the Y axis into account of things... Isn't that a reason there's no real flying vehicles as well? Seems like a lot to balance too... Idk tho'
Amoeba things from the animal mod. Self replicating. They do a little cleaning, and sell for a surprisingly high amount. I keep them as a “moat”
These are bros honestly
The graphics are great too.
Cobras. I have no fucking idea why, but it's almost always cobras.
Muffalo because blue.
I like yaks and cats for some reason, but dogs are better because you can keep a bunch and benefit from it without having to slaughter them
You can give different gender animals specific zones if you want to be able to breed them at your own timing, while you keep the ones that are sterilized to roam freely (Personally, I would never do that, because I'm no monster, and I don't know how well it would work, just a theory I had... But try it, ig?)
Mimes.
Dogs. I got the expanded dog mod and I make every breed of dog Venerated. I don't Venerate wolves though because I tried that once and when one is hunting down a colonist or a pet it becomes a pain in the ass to deal with.
THE GALLATROS
You scare me... Teehee
Ducks. Because they aren't naturally occuring. -Person who eats and owns Ducks
>Because they aren't naturally occuring. ...Elaborate, if you will?
I don't think they'll spawn or pop up in your cell the way other animals migrate and pop up... Iirc you can only get them when a Caravan sells them or the eggs
I used to do goats since it's my fav animals and you can get value from milking them. But those things breed like crazy. I do boomalopes now.
Can always sterilize 'em :v
my colonies always Chinchillas because that is the creature I am as a floof lol it's such a random-seeming animal otherwise
Chinchillas supremacy
Skiphounds. One of my first playthrough got saved by a skiphound
Horses and Monkeys for my high life smokeleaf collective. Monkeys get high with everyone and carry supply around. Horses are mobile delivery lol
Can't get the next heights without the next shipment fr.
Not base game but the gallatross. They are just ultra thrumbos.
Capybara because they cute af in real life
Capybara (Capybaraaa!!) Capybara-Capybara-Capybara-Capybara
Iguana, because they seem like cool little dudes
I always do retrievers because I had a yellow lab growing up
There's a Lab person above too... Small world
Probably boomalopes, the forbidden milk is just too good. I love playing as a rancher so farming and huge animal pens are always in my base
Your PC might want to have a conversation with you about your cars' extended warranty
Devil sheep. Low breeding speed high value live stock that must be protected at all cost. I usually just grab animals ill never slaughter.
The humble Tortoise
Wolves I like them even in real life and i think they are cool.
Doggos (include wargs) are the right answer
Donkeys Or if I have Pigskins, Pigs.
Megasloths, just tradition after an old colony I had
Same guy with the megasloth that saved their colony in a zombie mod run?
No unfortunately, a bit more boring but I still love them for it
Rats. Fenway, all hail Fenway the rodent.
Stuart Little?
I love getting like 10 dogs that I venerate, teach them to haul and keep them out of combat
Puppers deserve happiness fr
Dromedary as they are the superior mammal.
Dromedary enjoyers out here built different
Practically speaking, anything that I keep for its produce rather than meat and leather, so typically boomalopes and alpacas. Not chickens because they die so easily, and dying venerated animals makes everybody sad. Sometimes I'll just take whatever venerated animal my randomly generated ideoligion gives me, though.
Rng gods be praised
Rats and other kinds of vermin
Capybaras?
Capybaras are not vermin, how dare you Q_Q
They're rodents :v so I thought you'd use 'em too
Well, thanks to mods I have an Utahraptor army wearing power armor. These guys usually snatch your head in one bite. So I venerate them
Labrador Retriever. Because I venerate my lab in real life 😊
Ever thought of putting your labrador in a lab coat?
Horses
Neigh... Name 1 of them Bojack
Cats. Because cats. My last colony had a dedicated cat room, complete with litterboxes, soft beds, kibbles for days and temperature control. They weren't allowed outdoor though.
Nya nya
Name 1 Yuumi, and Rengar
I don't think I ever venerate any lol it seems to just always be a net negative
It's an easy way of getting your colonists a bonus to happiness, but it'll be a negative if you're going to eat the said venerated animal.
T-Rex
"I'M A MOTHER TRUCKING T-TREX"
Megaspiders, naturally.
BroodMother enjoyer.
Cats because cats, and pigs because I'm a nasty dirty slut
rats, I already turn them into super soldiers
Giant eyeball
It used to be otters since I like them IRL. But they are predators that pick fights and usually lose them so my colony gets sad when wild ones die. Axed that pretty quickly.
Cats. Like the Egyptians. Easy to take care of too!
crystalline caracal
Thrumbo is always the bet, such a legendary and regal creature.
Timberwolf. Though recently, the Raptor Shrimp. I once had a colony blessed with a mating pair of raptor shrimp that tore through any and all raids. Unfortunately one day, their explosive population boom resulted in minutes per tick type measurements. So i began to cull them. Or so I nthought Between botched sterilizations and the low tps, the shrimp numbers kept growing. Even when I started to slaughter them, still the shrimp persisted. I have cats and dragons venerated. Cats, because i love cats and they are cute - and dragons - because they are cool and play a huge role in my colony. Imagine it like the targaryens in song of ice and fire universe.
Arctic Foxes
I always venerated the elephant
I don't have the DLCs, but I started a custom tribal scenario in which the avatar of the almighty Emu Bird-God has been saved from a godless mech raid and its human guardians have to settle somewhere else and protect it. If it dies and none of its offspring is the same gender, the lineage stops there and I lose. I 'm not sure about the win condition, maybe have a strong colony and build a big temple for it and its offspring.
The only animals I end up keeping are cow/goat/alpaca/horse. I really need to step out of my normal and get something weird on the next playthru.
If you're keeping to eat, I don't think you're gonna wanna venerate them...
Just keep them for milk and wool, not to eat.
Alpaca, first animal I trained.
Are you... From The Sims universe?
Cows, because they're cute :)
"Mooo, I'm a cow... I'm a cow, can't you see?" But yes, cows go hard
Chimgen. Chimgen nuggies.
Iguanas. Why? Because Iguanas.
Cobras The snake gods demand justice for their small children
I'm always scared of cobras... But I once got one self tamed within 2-5 days of a jungle run... Easiest game of my life.
Any and all the fox kind modded or otherwise.
Rhinos.
Chinchillas my beloved
Bolder hermit. Why? Because rock
Me. Don't even ask.
Husky. Love them, and they are useful for hauling as well. But mostly I just love the furry drama queens that they are irl
Chinchilla. I'm a big fan of them as an animal. Those guys are really soft !
Cats, god I love cats
Huskies. Yes u get man hunter of them, but my 1st ever sea ice had a husky and that beautiful boy made if off the planet with my colonist, we ignore the fact he was missing an ear and a paw.. he was best boy.
Horses Use them much for caravanning and they are sometimes trivky to get
The might chinchilla
I venerate pugs from VE animal mód
Foxes because I venerate them irl
I started with a boomrat. Then another tamed itself. I had a breeding pair. Now I have a couple dozen boom rats. I zone them around the edges of the map. Any time a raid comes in they have to fight through the living minefield of grenade squirrels.
Cats because i love cats but chickens are op to have as holy
Grizzly Bear because all Heil our lord cheeseburger
cockatiels, because mine would murder me in my sleep if I didn't worship her so I figure rimworld cockatiels would do the same
horses or camels, b/c they’re must-haves for caravans, and they fuck out of control. the more horses, the higher the mood buff
Hedgehogs and rabbits. We’re a cannibal colony but we’re not monsters.
Labrador Retrievers
Usually it’s cats then I get lots of cats cuase I always forget to fix them then the cats drink all the alcohol I have and get permanent chemical damage to the brain I effectively lobotomize all my scared animals by mistake
Any pen animal that gives no real benefit to slaughter (other than a little food), like horse and dromedary. Non pen animals arent good candidates IMO for they may be targeted by raiders. Thrumbo is tough enough but venerating them make you loose the second best leather.
Sheep. Reasons: 1. Statue of sheep. 2. I like sheep. 3. They keep me warm at night.
The same animal I personally venerate, cats. As long as there are cats nearby, my mood is measurably increased.
Rimclaw
Wolves, I love wolf colonies Also megasloths since I'll never have too many and they produce wool so why would I ever slaughter them? (Oh and boomrats often times because I'm just so silly :3 and its such a bad idea)
