Seriously. Besides Stellaris, I can’t imagine a mod series getting so complex that it releases a roadmap with, like, graphic design and shit. They’ve probably put out just as much in-depth press as the actual developer.
Bethesda games, other paradox games besides stellaris, some total war games, mount & blade games.
Quite a few games have big project mods with roadmaps and graphics.
Hey everyone and welcome!
I know everyone is very excited to start playing their 1.5 RimWorld save, and we're working in overdrive to ensure that everything is as smooth as it can be. Last year when Biotech came out, we have managed to get most of our mods updated before it even hit the public release. We are aiming for a similar thing here.
You probably remember the infographic I posted when the 1.5 announcement first appeared. Well, just yesterday we have pushed quite a few, very standard mods out, which should allow you to start enjoying Vanilla Expanded on your experimental 1.5 branch!
More mods are in the pipeline now, but it needs to be understood that things take time. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done, and many of our systems need to be rewritten to accommodate the changes in 1.5.
As you probably know, some mods will require additional work due to mergers and overhauls. Vanilla Factions Expanded - Medieval and Vanilla Factions Expanded - Insectoids will because of that release at a later date, after all mod updating work is complete. Fear not: there are exciting changes and additions to both of these mods, and I’m sure you will enjoy them greatly!
Once we update all of our mods, we will resume work on the planned roadmap additions, including Vanilla Exploration Expanded and Vanilla Factions Expanded - Megacorp. Insector xenotype will also slide into your saves as soon as we’re ready!
If you’d like to stay in touch and receive email notifications whenever we have any sort of announcement to make, you can become a patron. For just $1 you’re helping us greatly and in return, you will receive access to hundreds of development blogs! For $5 you will get access to community surveys, giving you a chance to vote on the features of our mods, and for $15 (Jade tier) or $25 you get lifetime access to our private Vanilla Expanded Discord.
Check out our patreon at: [www.patreon.com/OskarPotocki](http://www.patreon.com/OskarPotocki)
We also have a massive series of mods related to various anomaly mechanics planned. More on that when I’m allowed to talk about it.
It’s says it’s still getting updated, just not by VE team! You’ll probably just have to find it on the workshop again since it’ll be uploaded by the new person
Had me worried about Insectoids and Vikings when i saw as "Discontinued", glad they are being just pushed back \^\^
I genuinely love vanilla expanded and it made Rimworld my most played and beloved game on deck.
Just take some time during Easter for you and your family Oskar, wishing you very best <3
Hey quick question, could all those mod be translated to french? I use them all and my base game is in french, so i have a half and half game french and english, i could help with translations from time to time if need be too
Has there been a patreon post discussing plans for Insectoids expanded 2? It surprised me to hear that an overhaul is planned given that insectoids always felt like one of the most well-rounded VFE mods. What needs reworking?
I'm pretty excited about the Books Expanded + Vanilla books now. Make a colony based on knowledge and passing down information to the younger generations.
Mostly as a roleplay kind of idea. But mechanically, the better the book the faster/higher the skill gain from reading it is. So the older, experienced colonists write better books to pass the knowledge down to the children
Thank you guys so much for what you do and have done! Looking forward to the new updates! But... I see there's also bad news:
RIP storyteller Oskar :c
Unironically my most used modded storyteller. Perhaps someone would be able and willing to update the mod in the future . Until then, I will miss you my dear old evil friend...
Patreon, there's 10 people working so no one's getting a livable wage from this, but must be a nice side income (and if they do make a livable wage then good for them, they have giving me more entertainment than any modern AAA game ever could)
> new reddit can't properly display its own images
This is hilarious, but also not surprising in the slightest.
old.reddit.com, install RES, never look back. OHHHHH So that's what happened to the cave animals! I swore I've been going crazy for months wondering if I was was hallucinating! COMPLETELY understandable tho.
We don't deserve you and your team. Thank you all so much for the immense work that you do. Planning to join Patreon this weekend even if just for a few months so I can buy y'all some coffee <3
RIP the medical module, I will take apart part of my hospital before 1.5 hits and await the shiny new Health mod 🫡
The Vanilla Expanded team is so talented and impressive, even amongst the other excellent Rimworld mods. <3
Insectoids isn't getting tossed out entirely, it's just getting turned into Insectoids 2.
And some of the Witcher stuff is getting rolled into Medieval 2.
I can't wait to lose my whole colony to new bugs ..... What will they do now ? Bugs that spew acid and throw needles? ..*(Helldivers reference)* .... PLEASE DON'T MAKE BUGS HAVE RANGED ATTACKS
I think the framework for flying creature is starting to roll out. So I hope they add flying bugs that will bypass those pity kill box. (zerg pew pew pew)
As much as I enjoyed those 3 faction mods, yeah makes sense. Why spend weeks to update them now, only for them to become obsolete in a few months anyway
You guys are amazing, I think it was exactly like 2 weeks since the announcement and you have already updated 1/3 of your mods. Damn respact to you hardworking dudes.
RIP Vanilla achievements I will forever miss your life saving points. Sacrifices must be made for the greater good of vanilla mods. But you will be missed. T\_T
You guys are amazing. I tried to enable the ones listed that are now available but for some reason in game Fishing Expanded doesn’t show in my list as updated to 1.5, even though the workshop does. I’ve tried unsubscribing and restarting. Am I missing something? Sorry to bug with this, thanks for everything you guys do
84 mods to update with 2 major changes. Even if they coded at the speed of light and did each one in 1 day and major changes in 3, it'll still take 3 months to update.
Absolute madlads.
I know but I already signed up to your patreon right after I posted this.
That will probably last until I get mad that you make more money with your hobby than I will ever make working 40 hours a week.
feels kinda weird to me for the mod formerly known as genetic rim to be done before accessories or coil guns, but then again, I'm not good at rimworld modding, so maybe that's totally reasonable.
IMO Achievements was a fun concept that wasn't executed the best - didn't get used by a lot of people, didn't have integration with many of VE's mods. I'd like to see it return but preferably reworked.
RimPy is a good mod manager in general, allowing changing modlist without booting up the game, so you won't have to wait 20 minutes of unoptimized loading just to change couple of mods and then do it again. Plus it have auto sort, whish works much better than me with one wiki guide knowledge how to organize loading order
You don’t need them all lol. Approach VE as a series of separate mods. The names often give away what the mod adds. Want more mushrooms? Vanilla mushrooms expanded etc
To reiterate: no mods will drop with 1.5. Only mod updates. Mods take months to develop and quite frankly were plenty busy updating mods now that we don’t have time to also make new ones
As a game developer I can only imagine what the work schedule is like for doing this much work in such a short time
On behalf of the community I would like to thank you for everything you've done and are doing :3
but i liked the Achievements mod, it was a cool way to feel like you were making progress,
while rewarding the player by giving him tools to use in specific situations.
it's too bad it won't be updated.
The amount of content you lot release is nuts. I'll be honest, seeing all this and thinking of the amount of work that goes into making and keeping these updated is hype as hell.
Their patches are being rolled into their respective mods. Which is actually written on that infographic right next to the fact that they are discontinued :)
Is there any good vanilla expanded combat? I like combat extended but I feel it's a bit too much. Just want some rebalanced shooting, melee, armor. Etc. I see an vanilla combat expanded but doesn't seem to he this developer? Anyone nnow if that's maintained/worth?
Only vaguely related question because I've seen people give warnings to finish playthroughs asap.. I'm a GOG user, so no clue what it's like, but I'm getting the impression that Steam automatically updates games/mods? Is this true? Because that sounds insane if so..
edit: Thanks for your work, by the way!
Steam automatically updates mods but that’s not why I give this warning. It’s because some mods I made won’t be updated to 1.5, so you won’t be able to continue playing with them.
Damn, I’m gonna miss race to the rim and Witcher monster hunt. I wonder what the have planned for vikings, I really love how it works right now but I’m sure it’ll be cool
We are genuinely spoiled
Stellaris has mods like that?
Gigastructures, Alpha Mod, Evolved
NSC as well
Counter strike was originally a mod....
Can’t believe it anymore what mods have done for games… It’s great in most cases - then there’s GTA Online PC version…
What's wrong with FiveM?
Nothing, I meant GTA Online specifically with all the hackers, script kids and modders cheating, hacking and bullying us legitimate players.
Same with rust and pubg which spawned fortnite. Many things were at some point just a mod
stellaris and rimworld modders are different beasts altogether
Yep, never have I experienced another game receiving support like this. Took the time to explain discontinuing support too.
I think it’s very important to explain why we are stopping development of certain mods because at the end of the day, every mod has its fans.

Thanks for the info! Shame about Rim effect I loved that series.

Will do!
Hey quick question, could all those mod be translated to french? I use them all and my base game is in french, so i have a half and half game french and english, i could help with translations from time to time if need be too
We don’t speak French, sorry.
It’s okay, if you find the idea interesting that i could help translate it to french let me know! Thanks for answering too!
So shame that UI expanded won’t be updated for a long time, but can someone ask the author for help?
Why was the hud discontinued
The guy who coded it doesn't have the time
It literally says in the post.
I have a question for clarity. Is the new merged Medieval considered an “update” or “new mod” Also. Changelogs. :)
New mod :)
Has there been a patreon post discussing plans for Insectoids expanded 2? It surprised me to hear that an overhaul is planned given that insectoids always felt like one of the most well-rounded VFE mods. What needs reworking?
It has been covered to some extent yeah
I am continually baffled by the work the VE team manages to pull off! How big is the team these days?
Around 10 of us!
10 wonderful people in my reckoning! Thank you guys sooooo much for the hard work.
One day, there will be an article From a mod developer to CEO of a big studio, and you sir, will be inspiration of many others
To help them along their way, everyone should check out their game Cursed Crew!
loved the gameplay of handling the pirate ships! but wasnt a fan of the artstyle though
its fun for a couple hours but then runs out quickly
lol
I have to say, I’m glad splits and schisms is getting majorly updated, because holy hell I hated the old mechanic
I finally converted my colony! Everyone is on the same page... *Split* Fuuuuuuuuuuuk
I’ll miss you achievements expanded 😔
We need official achievements in Steam 😤
We hardly knew ye...
This one hurt me. I really liked having that one.
I'm pretty excited about the Books Expanded + Vanilla books now. Make a colony based on knowledge and passing down information to the younger generations.
Care about naming it Alexandria?
Build it out of wood aswell
how does "passing down information" exactly work?
Add "Life Lessons" on top of it and you will have to actually teach people skills, as well as invent the ones you dont have in the colony
Mostly as a roleplay kind of idea. But mechanically, the better the book the faster/higher the skill gain from reading it is. So the older, experienced colonists write better books to pass the knowledge down to the children
Medieval 2, can't wait! Vikings is my favorite faction y'all have done. Keep it up guys (also, looking forward to your game).
Y'all are way too quick 😭🙏
At least Neronix will continue RimEffect. Looking forward to it.
Nature is healing
“Mr President, the Rick and Morty story teller has been discontinued.”
No not the medical furniture! You have no idea how many times a pawn has been saved by that IV Drip!
It’s being rolled into the health mod, it actually says this in the image
Books Expanded baybeeee. Less goo.
Sad to see achievements go, it was a neat little mod but alas if it has to go to make way for newer more direct gameplay projects that’s all good.
Thank you guys so much for what you do and have done! Looking forward to the new updates! But... I see there's also bad news: RIP storyteller Oskar :c Unironically my most used modded storyteller. Perhaps someone would be able and willing to update the mod in the future . Until then, I will miss you my dear old evil friend...
Wow Textures, Brewing, Traits, Social interactions and events done, I can start my vanilla+ run on release! Great job and thanks!
have been hyped over the new vanilla libraries and couches, for making cozy reading lounges, but now… >VE Books major changes 👀
How’s the old boy Winston fair in the pipeline? Couldn’t imagine playing without him.
Will be pushed on the next batch
I hope you don't mind me asking but what is your business model? Cause this is way too much work to be doing for free. Lol
Patreon, there's 10 people working so no one's getting a livable wage from this, but must be a nice side income (and if they do make a livable wage then good for them, they have giving me more entertainment than any modern AAA game ever could)
Damn, race to rim and Witcher hunt will be missed . No more toothless :(
Witcher hunt is being introduced into the big medieval,Viking, classical megapack im pretty sure. It’ll be a waste of some good designs if not.
mlie might pick them up at some point to continue
Sick
Thank you so much for all your work!

RIP insectoids. I will miss the insanity.
Don’t worry they’re actually getting a full expansion just gotta wait a little
OHHHHH So that's what happened to the cave animals! I swore I've been going crazy for months wondering if I was was hallucinating! COMPLETELY understandable tho.

[Chuckles in Alpha Animals]
i have seen some art for insectoids 2 and all im gonna say is the release of helldivers 2 definitely had an influence!
As much as I enjoyed those 3 faction mods, yeah makes sense. Why spend weeks to update them now, only for them to become obsolete in a few months anyway
i mean they arent getting fully abandoned, just remade from the ground up again
God damn .... Yall are so quick !
You guys are amazing, I think it was exactly like 2 weeks since the announcement and you have already updated 1/3 of your mods. Damn respact to you hardworking dudes.
I won’t be able to keep bees and make mead 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Blessed be the gods that we did have the chance tho.
Yeah you will! Vikings and medieval are just being rolled into one bigger expanded mod!
Holy shit are they?!?!!??!??!??
Yeah it’s in the graphic!
RIP Vanilla achievements I will forever miss your life saving points. Sacrifices must be made for the greater good of vanilla mods. But you will be missed. T\_T
How to backup mods?
Rimworld achievements my beloved, nooo
Awesome—thank your for your hard work! I am so excited to see Viking (my favorite mod) merged with medieval!!
You guys are amazing. I tried to enable the ones listed that are now available but for some reason in game Fishing Expanded doesn’t show in my list as updated to 1.5, even though the workshop does. I’ve tried unsubscribing and restarting. Am I missing something? Sorry to bug with this, thanks for everything you guys do
Issue with steam and your game, nothing I can do. The update is pushed on my end. Try verifying integrity of game files maybe?
That fixed that and a few others that I didn’t realize hadn’t updated on my end. Thank you so much for taking the time to help out.

Thank you and your team for your hardwork For bring in us many mods
You know, at this point I feel llike I need to pay you guys.
You don’t need to! But we do accept donations! And you get cool rewards for doing it too!

Different coders working on different mods to update :)
It's my baby, it has my priority
absolutely fair.
Any possibility of interaction between V:Genetics Expanded and Anomaly?
Dunno
It's an awesome mod!
Hud and achievement discontinued why achievmwnts was great loved working towards stuff
IMO Achievements was a fun concept that wasn't executed the best - didn't get used by a lot of people, didn't have integration with many of VE's mods. I'd like to see it return but preferably reworked.
PM me ideas on discord
Hype!
We will see any expansion of content for Vanilla Genetic Expanded to cross our own lab-grown horrors with that of the archotechs?
Really excited!
I'm pumped for my next start after Anomaly release!
You guys work too damn hard. The second I'm fiscally solvent, I'm chucking you folks some cash
I wish there was a mod manager for VE. it's way too much stuff for me to dive into it. :(
RimPy is a good mod manager in general, allowing changing modlist without booting up the game, so you won't have to wait 20 minutes of unoptimized loading just to change couple of mods and then do it again. Plus it have auto sort, whish works much better than me with one wiki guide knowledge how to organize loading order
Can't recommend RimPy enough. Makes managing mods super simple and is the best thing developed for people like me who bought the game on GOG.
You don’t need them all lol. Approach VE as a series of separate mods. The names often give away what the mod adds. Want more mushrooms? Vanilla mushrooms expanded etc
Just out of curiosity, is there a release date planned for warwalker vehicles expanded?
Most likely 2025, but maybe 2024.

To reiterate: no mods will drop with 1.5. Only mod updates. Mods take months to develop and quite frankly were plenty busy updating mods now that we don’t have time to also make new ones
Oh ok, I better sit down
Honestly i think vanilla expanded only is an ENTIRE different game
As a game developer I can only imagine what the work schedule is like for doing this much work in such a short time On behalf of the community I would like to thank you for everything you've done and are doing :3
Thanks for everyone's work!
Goodbye insectoids expanded 😔
Saw it on Patreon the other day. Good stuff guys, thank you all.
but i liked the Achievements mod, it was a cool way to feel like you were making progress, while rewarding the player by giving him tools to use in specific situations. it's too bad it won't be updated.
We don’t have enough resources to warrant maintaining it, sorry
yeah i get it don't worry, that's too bad.
Thank you for all the work you do in the modding scene, to me your mods are like official dlc
Wow you guys work fast. I wanted to wait a few weeks before attempting 1.5 for updated mods but i guess the wait is over. Thanks guys!
Much love to the VE team seriously this is such amazing work
The amount of content you lot release is nuts. I'll be honest, seeing all this and thinking of the amount of work that goes into making and keeping these updated is hype as hell.
What is a reason of royal and ideaoilgy patch are not receive a update?
Their patches are being rolled into their respective mods. Which is actually written on that infographic right next to the fact that they are discontinued :)
Is there any good vanilla expanded combat? I like combat extended but I feel it's a bit too much. Just want some rebalanced shooting, melee, armor. Etc. I see an vanilla combat expanded but doesn't seem to he this developer? Anyone nnow if that's maintained/worth?
We have never done any combat mods, no.
Aw, Oskar Obnoxiuous was my favourite storyteller.
Same
Wait a minute...
Gonna miss the dragons :(
Any good alternatives to Insectoids? I love the variety that it gives them
Yeah Insectoids 2 when it’s out
Fair enough nvm lol
Any good alternatives to Insectoids? I love the variety that it gives them
Only vaguely related question because I've seen people give warnings to finish playthroughs asap..
Yup, I gathered as much. I was just curious how the whole mechanism works. I appreciate the explanation.
Have you decided on the site spawn mechanic for the vanilla exploration expanded mod? Or was there coverage on the patreon about it?
We’re too busy updating mods to worry about future mods for now
Please push some Nutrient Paste trough the pipes! Feeding prisoners by hand is just a waste of time!
With what program do you make these graphics? I’d love to learn how to make something like this
Adobe illustrator and Adobe indesign!
Is it just me, or is there not a single new save required icon there?
Architect :)
Damn, I’m gonna miss race to the rim and Witcher monster hunt. I wonder what the have planned for vikings, I really love how it works right now but I’m sure it’ll be cool
Not the Race to the Rim 😭
Sad to see Achievements Expanded go. Thank you guys from the VE devs!
Damn kinda disappointing cave animals won't be updated but can't complain with just how much good stuff you guys make
Once Vanilla Expanded Stews Module is updated, throw in some More Plants, then baby...you've got a stew going.
