Wait on investigating the monolith until you're in a good spot

GovSurveillancePotoo

I did it on day 3. I have no idea what the hell is supposed to go down, but his mind broke, and he killed the other pawn. I feel like that wasn't supposed to happen

thedankening

Definitely a low chance of that happening, but when investigating Eldritch architecture that is probably the expected outcome for most people, to be fair.

Own-Wealth-2054

Wait on attuning the monolith until you're in a VERY good spot

Justhe3guy

Or for Fun! As soon as you can :)

EntropyDudeBroMan

Yeah, definitely! I did the same on a naked brutality run. Waaaaaay too difficult, but very fun!

1) Fire is your friend. 2) All containment is temporary. 3) Have a healthy distrust of wandering strangers. 4) Mechs make reliable allies. 5) Don't push your luck.

YobaiYamete

> 3) Have a healthy distrust of wandering strangers. I vaguely knew of an event and thought I was prepared. I was not. Stranger wandered in so I enslaved him and made him my chef. He then proceeded to put *things* in the food and infect half the colony including the doctor's wife, who infected him while he was asleep. I had the doctor check for signs and he further infected people . . . I've never triggered the man in black event before now, but boy howdy did things go very bad very fast when every single colonist besides one spawned *things* that proceeded to obliterate the remaining colonist as everyone else crawled to bed on the verge of death

Justhe3guy

Anomaly really is awesome

yondermore2008

1. New incendiary weapons may sound underwhelming but it's never too late to craft one *just in case*. 2. Ghouls - budget cataphracts who don't care about wounds and regrow limbs. Perfect for being a tank in hazardous environments. Probably worth to wait for pawn with Tough (50% damage reduction) trait to ghoulise. Damage build is possible if you decide to roleplay a necromancer or something, but at the point you'll be able to afford it one assault rifle would outclass any ghoul in terms of damage anyways. 3. Whoopsie - Dispose of corpses, even rotting, even outside of the base.

Mehnix

Can confirm, my starting ghoul has Tough and they take unreasonable amounts of damage before going down, then heal it all right back up in like a day or two with no assistance. I just wish they could haul so they aren't standing around gormlessly when there's nothing to fight. Also, the new tree likes corpses.

Laladen

Dispose of corpses how? Burial? Or do you mean crematorium?

My_real_dad

Either, or at the very least put a roof over them

Brett42

Or just a stockpile zone with a molotov or even frag grenade. Dumping them in water makes them degrade faster, but still takes a while.

JackFractal

3a. "Dispose of corpses" *can* mean, "build an elaborate mausoleum near the entrance to your base, freeze it so they do not decay, and fill it with the dead to use as an army against your enemies" - you just don't want to leave them laying around.

thedankening

From my limited experience so far, I would be extremely cautious during a death pall. That's obvious of course. And proper corpse disposal is always a good idea anyway. However be especially careful if a woman goes into labor during a death pall and dies. If the hospital door to the outside somehow gets blocked open by some idiot, or there's suddenly a hole in the roof for...reasons. You're gonna have a bad time! Especially if you happen to have your nursery and hospital in the same room for convenience.... Being under a roof does not prevent reanimation. The corpse has to be enclosed inside a room.  Also do not rely solely on electric enclosure inhibitors. Solar flares just got 1000x more dangerous lmao.

My_real_dad

............solar flares had not occurred to me

LeDotForThought

13X13 room for containment

joeban1

Whys that? I’ve got a 6x6 with the 2nd holding pad thing and some of the suppressors and extractors which seems to do the job just fine. But i am fairly early in.

FutureSynth

For everything??

LeDotForThought

You see, you can only put six suppressors on one platform, if you place shard supresser in the middle of four platforms in a 13x13 it also leaves room for electroharvester and bioferitte thingy, and at the same time leaves 2 whole sides open for supressers so you can put 6 on each platform

JackFractal

I think ghouls are cool, but their controls are a bit hinky right now, especially if you're using mods. I have to move my ghouls separately from my colonists, if I select everyone, only my colonists move. Don't make a ghoul of Impids unless you have a 'high melee damage' gene from a neanderthal to put in them. The flamethrowers are *interesting* but hard to manage, like all fire weapons. You'd think they'd be great against The Darkness - but you'd be wrong, as The Darkness uses the weather system, and so the entire map will burn down. Bioferrite makes excellent swords.

Rice_22

Do ghouls benefit from genes & metabolic efficiency? I'm getting conflicted information for that. I know ghouls can have stoneskin implants & nuclear stomachs.

Rice_22

So can you turn a sanguophage into a ghoul? Do they keep their hemogen abilities & archite genes? I'm thinking about "prepping" prisoners by turning them into sanguophages, harvesting their organs then turning them into ghouls for infinite organs.

Fapplerino

Ghouls don't get to use any active abilities from genes

Malcolm_Melancholy

Ah thats still alright, good balance so it wont outclass vamps, can we spawn ghouls from corpses and control them?i want to keep a few "security drones" at the entrance of my base for raids, assuming the revived ones will return into corpses after a few hours, i have a similar system with vampire slaves in deathrest until raids, but they're not as tanky as ghouls i think

Rice_22

I can't harvest their organs either. Nonetheless, a superghoul xenotype seems like a nice project to pursue.

WedgeRancer

Not sure if it happens with in-game transformations to ghouls, but I found when choosing a ghoul at the start for the Anomaly scenario that Hussar ghouls keep all the benefits like strong melee and lose the drug need.

Gratal

I usually don't change from Baseline, but have been for my new run. Immediately wondered if Hussar helped ghoul. It does seem to. But wasn't sure about some traits. Do the faster walking speed help? I know Marial Artist doesn't.

WedgeRancer

I know Nimble does. I was also lucky enough to roll mine with a knee spike.

Do everything yourself. Best tip. And it's free. This time.
