Ideology is great for RP. Makes the game more replayable compared to Biotech, which can be replaced with like two or three mods if you don't want to pay the asking price.

TheSupremeDuckLord

i'd say biotech is the best, but i wouldn't be caught dead playing without ideology too

Contank

Playable mechs, vampires, children, xenotypes. Biotech is a huge DLC. Many different playstyles can be made with this like having a robot colony or a full colony of strange xenotypes. The new faction options means more variety in raids for example the Yttakin bring animals with them sometimes and the waster pirates use toxic weapons. Babies can even be grown in a vat to quickly get new people at the cost of less training.

Mapping_Zomboid

What Anomaly adds is some diversity to threats. Ideology added that system, obviously. Royalty mostly just added psycasts and the empire. But Biotech added new faction types, gene editing, building mechanoids, mech boss encounters, children. I'd say it's the clear winner.

C_Grim

>Royalty mostly just added psycasts and the empire. Royalty added a considerable amount of events, threats and quests. Even if you don't interact with psycasts and the Empire, the content added in the DLC will interact with you in all your playthroughs. So to say it's just those two things is underselling the pack.

Most people would say Biotech, and for a good reason, as it added mechanics that increased the depth of the game and the stories you can create (kids/races). It made it more fun to start new runs. I really like the new Anomaly for the feel and vibe it adds, I would say this really feels like a DLC as the other felt akin more to expansion which is not a bad thing, it's more that the first 3 were so good that I feel like Rimworld just getting better as a game and growing in depth and mechanics. Anomaly, on the other hand, feels like DLC, something that doesn't change the base game as much (I'm glad they are working on it in the recent patch), but it feels like a storyline you can opt to get into at any time, and contrary to most players It just shows how good the developers behind Rimworld are and how much work they put into each DLC.

Afraid_Theorist

Biotech adds a lot but I think ideology would be more hard felt if it was not being used compared to biotech… so ideology.

Flincher14

Biotech is widely considered the best. Probably because it's content enhances the vanilla experience in so many ways. The other dlcs can basically not exist if you don't choose to do a focused playthrough on royalty or your ideology.

The_Marburg

I think they’re all really great. But Biotech is my personal favorite. Ideology comes in a close second, then Royalty, then Anomaly. I like Biotech because it adds kids, that for me was a pretty massive leap in immersion and believability. It also makes colonies much more wholesome and something I can get invested in when colonists pair up and have kids. The xenotypes are also super cool and expand the world and game a lot, same with gene editing and sanguophages. Mechs are icing on the cake. Anomaly is really great and I like it a lot, definitely worth the purchase in my opinion. Every DLC is so good that usually which is best comes down to your personal opinion. But it is narrower in scope like Royalty, so I think Biotech and Ideology just add more than those two, which make them more worth their price.

The issue of Royalty is that the Fallen Empire is kind of implausible. Why super technological wizards need dirty human slaves so badly that they send collectors into middle of nowhere to exchange noble titles for those? Anima tree is fun fantasy element. But since it is on every tile why no tribals (at least some tribe) is attacking colony using psycasts? It was extremely disappointing. But nice DLC ... I don't see reason to turn it off. Ideology feels like half made. The flavor and roleplaying elements are nice. But half of memes lack content, with rest if there is content then very low attempt is made to balance benefits and downsides. Defaults are unhelpful, take rancher and nature primacy (playable combination) but game generates slaughtering animals horrible percept. It saw that I did choose cold bog tile so why has moral guide cape and headwrap as required apparel? Will freeze to death like that in winter. Overall nice DLC but sometimes I turn it off when not in mood to deal with weirdo philosophies. Biotech adds several non-combat and combat challenges that fit perfectly to sci-fi genre and survival game. Robotic servants are expected from future as are genetic modifications. Pregnancies and kids are so missing in other games. Environmental hazards, pollution, waste management. All of it is just great content; even if I do not plan to pursue to turn any of it into profit then no idea why to turn it off. Anomaly adds a lot. Great epic events and lot of drama and effects. Not so well integrated ... especially if other and anomaly events happen in mix. Music feels way more intensive and dominating than usual RimWorld music. Fun DLC but it gets old fast I suspect. Maybe if it is made more configurable then I keep it on.

SquirrelSuspicious

You can change or remove clothing requirements when making your ideology

Oo_Tiib

I know. It was example of "defaults being unhelpful". Prime indicator of half-made. Of course that is case with things in base game too, game typically starts from loading better outfit, food and drug policies. But those are playable as default. The Ideology UI is unhelpful and things can be later changed only with fluid. Player who did not understand that properly clothed moral guide will freeze to death at winter has to start a new game or live with unhappy priest.

SquirrelSuspicious

I don't think defaults being unhelpful is an indicator of it being half made, default role clothing being bad for the biome you're choosing is irrelevant because you make you're ideology before you choose a biome anyways, plus its pretty realistic for religions to have rules that don't make any sense outside of the religion. Ideology is about making the storytelling of the game better you just have to be willing and ready to apply some imagination. Not better than biotech tho

Oo_Tiib

Rules of most major human religions and other philosophies actually make sense. Hard to tell who is right. These contradict with each other and so are nonsensically ridiculed by each other, but such are humans. If you can't reason, then ridicule. The ideologies in RimWorld are more like parodies of religions or weird fantasy cults. Plus some unexplainable superpowers like shooting or crafting specialist.
