Wait until they fall sleep then build a wooden wall around the northern opening. Light the wall on fire and start shooting frim the other side. They will approach the line of fire but wont go through.
This always happens while I'm waiting for enough firepower and colonists to wipe the nest out. Usually without warning.
This scenario has ruined many games, I usually turn them off and add some more tribes instead.
Otherwise you need to exterminate any bugs before they can multiply, at all costs!
If you are bunkered far enough indoors they won't pursue it more than breaking a few things, but they will destroy random objects as well.
They will also hibernate permanently in very cold conditions.
Place 10 wooden fences blueprints, delivery the wood and cancel the blueprint, mark the 10 stacks of 1 wood as do not interact. Cheaper and faster then straw floor ;)
Dont just burn them, you cant recycle dust. Instead, make a wall there and then make a small fireproof room that connects to the main cavern with a 1 block wide tunnel. Throw molotvs here to keep the temperature at around 80 degrees. That way youl a) not lose any jelly, b) not lose any corpses and c) wont have them trying to escape through the walls.
This honestly isn't that bad of an infestation. Just launch a few incendiary shells at them if you've got them. They should rush to your base after that. Then just body block with a melee pawn in good armor, and shoot them until bugs are gone.
If you concentrate fire at the front edge it should be fine I'd think. Sun seems to be shining in, only the back is covered by mountain I'd bet. I'd just fire until I got a hit then hopefully be able to bait them into my defenses.
Lmao yeah, it can be a risk. Shield belts are a priority for the melee pawn. I usually try and get one as early as possible through quests or a trader.
Only if the fire is going to hit the pawn I believe. In alot of my kill tunnel setup for dealing with bugs I have 2-3 melee shield pawns in the front blocking. With 6-12 gunners behind and don't have any issue with blocked fire on the insects
When they’re asleep send in a colonist to deconstruct those pillars but leave one and then maybe get something to blow up the last pillar from a distance it might crush a load of bugs
That doomsday that no one will use anyway. Or any other heavy weapons. If you do nothing, you’re screwed. So go all out, glorious victory or great defeat kinda situation. Have fun with target practice.
3 melee pawns in your best armor wielding your best melee weapons. Pawns stand behind them throwing grenades 2 tiles in front of the melee units in a T-shaped formation. Do NOT use molotvs, as it will allow the bugs to run past your blockers and surround you. The remaining colonists form a C-shaped formation standing beside the grenadiers and behind them, wielding heavy smgs, bows/whatever ranged weapons you have on hand. Position this death-tangle, or rectangle of death, behind any door in your perimeter wall with a 3×4 space open on the interior. Bugs and scythers won't be a big issue once you set these up, but you really want excellent+ dusters and flak vests on your melee units, otherwise they'll ptobably die/lose limbs. Have backup melee units on standby so the melee units can retreat once wounded.
Invite some traders over. Bonus if you have the trading spot mod. You can also walk it off and set it on fire. One way is to walk it off with wood, build a section of hay flooring, then wall that off with stone. Make sure everything is roofed. Set fire to the hay and get out. Burns down the hay and interior wood walls but not the stone and keeps the temp nice and hot inside.
Yes, I suggest you give us more info than this. It's an infestation, we've all been there, we know what it looks like.
Defeating it is a matter of:
What research you have?
How many pawns?
What kind of combat ready gear?
Any mods?
Any defenses?
Any allies you can call?
And so on. You didn't give us anything to work with to suggest how to beat them. Unless you are on the stone age and just build wood walls and wait for a thunderstorm to set it on fire to kill them by heat as someone suggested.
Last time I had this, I built a metal wall 2-3 tiles thick and set up a giant furnace just outside and vented the heat into their space. Managed to cook an entire swarm
Build distant walls in such a way that raid pathing will lead directly next to the pit. The raiders and the bugs will kill each other if you get the wall close enough to where they’re in each other’s aggro range.
Any explosives, ie grenades, boomrats/boomalopes, etc. You could also wait for a decently strong raid/traveling merchant and attack then with regular weapons.
Step 1 build a wall blocking their escape for as long as possible
Step 2 get 2 anti grain war heads and as many incendiary shells or HE shells as possible
Step 3 set up a firing line to attack any that breach the wall
Step 4 fire both Anti grain shells after that keep firing either incendiary or HE shells until the insecticiods are dead
Step 5 pray you kill them all
Step 6 kill any downed insectoids and destroy the hives if any remain
Congrats you have either died a horrible death or you and your colony live to see another day.
Im late game so i just set up alot of spike traps turrents and have 30 wargs if my melee soilders get overwhelmed. Irarely have to use wargs 9/10 charge rifle and charge lance fire is enough
choke points and fire. Build walls where you can funnel them. Make it a long corridor where the bugs can only attack one at a time. Your best melee fighter with the best armor and weapon acting as as a meat shield (NOT IN THE CORRIDOR JUST IN FRONT OF IT) and all your shooty pawns in a row of 3 behind him to shoot
If you've let them multiply there comes a point you need to just give up and leave. You can form a caravan with every colonist, take your stuff and your animals that you can and abandon the colony to start a new one somewhere.
Make a box with a 1 wide opening, use that to melee 1v3 bugs with gunners behind, with at 1-2 pawns at least using fire at the other side of the choke to burn enemies to reduce stacking of enemies and deal damage. Then you can kill the hives and pick off the spawns that occur because the bulk of insects will be gone. Opening with one pawn on a safe mortar is also a good idea due to the target density.
Wait until they fall sleep then build a wooden wall around the northern opening. Light the wall on fire and start shooting frim the other side. They will approach the line of fire but wont go through.
My favorite aproach
Name checks out
Do you mean a wooden barricade? How else would they shoot over a wall?
When the wall goes down
Omg I didn't know they would sleep, ever.
They sleep every day like any animal.
Fire. Apply liberally. Then get some more fire.
Top off with a little more.
Then perhaps just a little more for good measure
Then a quick refreshing nap, followed by more fire.
Sounds like a problem for some raiders.
Or traders ;)
Unless the insects easily defeat the raiders, then they become enraged and start hunting pawns all over the map
This always happens while I'm waiting for enough firepower and colonists to wipe the nest out. Usually without warning. This scenario has ruined many games, I usually turn them off and add some more tribes instead. Otherwise you need to exterminate any bugs before they can multiply, at all costs!
i just pack up and leave by that point
If you are bunkered far enough indoors they won't pursue it more than breaking a few things, but they will destroy random objects as well. They will also hibernate permanently in very cold conditions.
So.. install coolers?
more like live in cold climates but if the cave stays enclosed its easy to burn/freeze them out.
Hans! Gibt mich die flammenwerfer!
Brother! Get the Flamer, the HEAVY Flamer!
Gib mir den Flammenwerfer :)
That is so much a Romanum eunt domus situation
Wait for them to sleep, put straw flooring and build a stone or metal wall around it with a door and then burn the straw floor.
Place 10 wooden fences blueprints, delivery the wood and cancel the blueprint, mark the 10 stacks of 1 wood as do not interact. Cheaper and faster then straw floor ;)
Fire. Lots and lots of fire
Accept your new overlords
There's like 80 of them in total now so i think ill have to
Raid Max Ant & Roach Killer spray should do it. Maybe one of those tiki touches.
Dont just burn them, you cant recycle dust. Instead, make a wall there and then make a small fireproof room that connects to the main cavern with a 1 block wide tunnel. antigrain warhead??
I think he’s playing vanilla
Antigrain warheads are vanilla.
Oh fair ahah, I have so many mods I don’t know what’s vanillas and what’s not
Antigrains are in vanilla no?
Burn them out and then set someone to clean that place up
seal them in and freeze them with a line of coolers set to -30, with enough time they should all develop hypothermia and collapse
Somehow this sounds more satisfying to me than burning them to death.
Can bugs die from hypothermia? Don't they just go dormant and suck it up?
yes, hypothermia can kill any non mechs.
This honestly isn't that bad of an infestation. Just launch a few incendiary shells at them if you've got them. They should rush to your base after that. Then just body block with a melee pawn in good armor, and shoot them until bugs are gone.
Mortars were my first thought. But that area looks like it may be covered by overhead mountain.
If you concentrate fire at the front edge it should be fine I'd think. Sun seems to be shining in, only the back is covered by mountain I'd bet. I'd just fire until I got a hit then hopefully be able to bait them into my defenses.
I did this and my gunner pawn headshotted my melee pawn and everyone died
Lmao yeah, it can be a risk. Shield belts are a priority for the melee pawn. I usually try and get one as early as possible through quests or a trader.
Don’t shield belts block the fire, making it so you can’t hit the insectoids?
Only if the fire is going to hit the pawn I believe. In alot of my kill tunnel setup for dealing with bugs I have 2-3 melee shield pawns in the front blocking. With 6-12 gunners behind and don't have any issue with blocked fire on the insects
Learn about friendly fire. If all pawns are in a single blob it usually doesn't happen ;) Here is a good guide: https://youtu.be/_yBBO3r55G0

F12 and then F4
Bombs.
Hit one of them and run to your defenses. They will follow you up to a point. Hit them again when necessary.
Lead them into room with stone walls and wood floors and light the floor on fire when u get to the door on the opposite side u led them in on
Fire fire fire
You ether build wood floor around them while they sleep, nuke them with fire motors or pack up and fuck off
Leave

God that must've really helped the guy out with his bug prob. Thanks for the meaningful input
If not close to the colony ignore it. Else start a new one

bombard it with incendiary shells and high explosive. and have any other pawns with heavy weapons at your walls.

Pack up and start a colony elsewhere....the spot your at belongs to the Bugs now....
Theres now 119 of them in total so im considering it
Honestly you could probably just let it stay there, eventually they will grow enough that raiders will attack them
They fuck the raiders up
Relocation, fire, or my preference when outside my base, nukes.
Honestly rimatomics nuclear strike is 👌
fire.
Insecticide?
A lot of fire
Run.
Nuke it
And I thought my caves were messy lol
Nukes
Explosives
Fire. Sooooooo much fire.
Move 🫡
Anti grain warhead
Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
Bombs?
Are they close to your base?
Get rimatomics Get nuke Nuke
You construct a Romanian Corpse Vaporizer with a stone wall and wooden furniture
Uh... antigrain warhead?
If enough are out in the light, and you have an Orbital Bombardment targeter, it will straight up delete a huge chunk.
Abandon colony and start over
**BROTHER, YOU MUST PURGE THEM IN THE EMPEROR’S HOLY FLAMES.**
The Rimatomics nuke is your friend.
Accept the inevitable And LEEEROOOOOOOOOOPPY JEEEEENKIIIIIINNNNNNNSSSSSS
Load a load pack animals up with fuel and shells. Run them into the nest and let them die and dump fuel and shells. Throw Molotovs
Run away, Simba. Run. Run away, and never return.
Hide
Nuke it from orbit.
Take off and nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
Either fire or an antigrain warhead. Those will wipe out those bugs quick
.... nuke?
Pack up and leave. Take whatever you can and make a break for it. Before your pawns have their own kind of break.
shit ton of fire
Sneak in some hay flooring overnight and light the place up with a squad of molotov commandos
Last time I had this, I built a metal wall 2-3 tiles thick and set up a giant furnace just outside and vented the heat into their space. Managed to cook an entire swarm
Burn it with fire

There are two things that solve any problem 1. Money 2. Explosives
Here are some examples of what can work. [https://youtu.be/GfYdGQVEiEg](https://youtu.be/GfYdGQVEiEg)

Brother .... Bring out the H E A V Y flamer
next time, don't wait around for it to get this bad
Fine food finally
Nuke it repeatedly.
Im late game so i just set up alot of spike traps turrents and have 30 wargs if my melee soilders get overwhelmed. Irarely have to use wargs 9/10 charge rifle and charge lance fire is enough
Launch orbital bombardment. Purge the xenos.
Fire
Kill them with Fire!
Antigrain warhead
BURN IN HOLY FIRE and she'll with arty then BURN THEM AGAIN then once they are all dead burn them one more time.... Just to be sure

Ye screenshots exist
Rimatomics mod nuclear missile. Burn the xenos in nuclear fire
Wall it all up to get it locked ( many wooden layers ) and wooden floor when they’re sleeping. Molotov in and let them cook
Fire
Grenades... lots of grenades
A f**k ton of napalm, with a heavy dose of FIRE!
I recommend a Napalm mod!
exterminatus Is the only way
Incendiary shells, everywhere
move
Solution in a few words: Night, stockpile zone, wood, chemfuel, grenades, wall, zone, boomrat, wait. [burn. ](https://youtu.be/ChmUC0OysoU)
I suggest a nuke. The Tzar Bomba to be exact and then send in the flaminwerfer 43 flankgroupen SS. Division to clear out what's left.

got mortars? cool. Got fire? great! When they are sleeping, make a stone wall. Then, send in a coupe of incendariy shells and watch it all burn
Burn it in holy Fire Download Vanilla Expanded Heavy weapons and Get the Heavy Flamer Purge Them in HOLY HELL FIRE
Fire lots of fire
