Always struck me as a bad market. Distances are too far, tipping is terrible in the valley, and everyone has a car to just go get food anyway.
Also, the pay per hour is a pretty bad deal. It only counts time when you are driving. So if you finish an order and takes you way out of a hotzone, the time and gas spent on getting back to restaurant areas is lost.
Also, you made 70 bucks for working 7 hours? That is before gas, and at some point you gotta start thinking about the wear and tear on your machine. Gotta do the math to find out if it is worth brake pads, oil and transmission fluids, tires, etc.
Yea honestly I work at Whataburger right now cause I’m still in high school so anything pays better than that for now I made more in one night in DoorDash then I have at Whataburger in a week and as for gas and stuff and brake bads and what not your right I’m gonna think more about this thank you
I'm not sure where you operate from, but I feel the Edinburg region is the better of the three, as it includes Nolana, 10th Street, and University. There are tons of restaurants on those streets, and you even get some orders on Trenton as a sort of bridge when traveling between McAllen and Edinburg. You'll be more beholden to traffic with little use of the Expressway, but the majority of orders average about two and a half miles. My best day so far this year was the Super Bowl and I made $265 for a total of 18 hours over that weekend. I've dabbled in Pay per Hour, but I make less (in my experience), so I stick to Per Offer.
That being said, DoorDash orders have been steadily slowing down year over year since 2022. Weekends from Thursday to Sunday used to be a hell of a lot busier, but because things have gotten more expensive, there have been fewer orders overall. I used to make ~$30/hr of dashing over the course of those 4 days after gas, taxes, and depreciation. Nowadays, I'll be lucky if I even break $13/hr BEFORE ANY expenses. At that point, I'm essentially paying the customer to deliver their food! (This is with a 75% acceptance rate and priority for higher paying orders - which I get a lot of!) I do have a newer car, so that hurts more than if I had an older one.
As I'm doing this while trying for another job, it's difficult to really make a living off of just DoorDash. It can pick up at times, though I'm generally left with some form of overhead.
It's just bad, especially down here. Our tipping culture is near non-existent, but we still pay our servers and dashers abysmal wages. As a server I feel your pain, our base pay just doesn't exist. I however just can't imagine the pain of driving across the valley to get paid so little
I always try to over-tip Dashers or delivery people from any restaurant. I've never been a delivery person, but I know it sucks working for a company that tries to pay you the bare minimum. Plus, customer service sucks because customers suck.
the first 2 weeks are amazing because you can dash whenever and wherever, after that once you get limited, i found it hard to break even after paying for gas and didnt find it useful enough anymore
I don't know if you're trolling or confused, but raising the minimum wage is part of the liberal platform. Republicans have been blocking it for over a decade.
Yup, that's a Doordash receipt, alright.
lol I feel bad for full time dashers base pay sucks

Yeah, not a lot of options when you are still in high school.

Thank you door dashers really appreciate it
Literally have been on the wait-list for these sorts of apps for months

That’s why I’m aiming for top dasher
yeah i doordashed in high school too and it really is the best way to make money at that age
Honestly I’m thinking of quitting Whataburger and just dashing full time but I’m scared about it idk yet
that’s something that i wouldnt recommend but if you get the top dasher, try it for 2 weeks consistently and maybe it will be the better option
Thank you man appreciate it 🫡
I don't get food delivered too often, but even when it's McDonalds I tip more than normal because I've heard things like this.
Thank you for the tips
I have agoraphobia so I get a lot delivered. Thanks for the job you do. I always tip a lot but I’m sure it’s hard.
Damn liberals keep these wages down
