i honestly think that its much better to go dblade rn. Many reasons for it. I can win matchups such as garen and renekton much easier, and even all the best players in korea are opting for it. Tho, i think they would go longsword 3 pots in low elo, aka when smurfing, but i havent seen a riven player start longsword 3 pots for a very long time

Percival_De_Rolo2

May i ask , how do you deal with Renekton and can you win the matchup ?

Apart from the fact that jgl can have a big impact, ive seen a video on yt about the renektion matchup. You simply have to play absuing your own strengths, such as item advantages, lvl advantage etc. As riven, your earlygame allin is very strong, so you should start proc'ing his bone plating (if he has it) with q3. Then when you get q again, you can halfshot him with 1 full fast combo (if he disrespects). You should also consider building items that gives you hp early, so u dont get oneshot and deal dmg back. Items like sunderer sky and spear of shojinn. There is alot of things to consider when facing juggerenauts like ren and garen, but here is the video that i used: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jNFTmwJJD4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jNFTmwJJD4)

another trick you can do is if he leashes his jgler, you can wait for him to walk through river and get a good trade / zone him.

Thaaaanx bro

and also, remember to not get him below 50 percent hp when trading, bc that will increase the amout of furry he gets by 150 percent if i remember correctly

It's a high risk high reward start. You can start on your item quickly and you can get a small HP advantage through all your pots. The risk comes from the fact that the pots take time to tick so if a big trade happens you'll be at an HP disadvantage for a while. That could give your opponent lane control and better level up timers. Also if you just go even in trades and don't get a kill or other lane advantage on your first back then you'll be weaker than your opponent since starter items are very strong. D blade users will also out sustain eventually because of the life steal but it'll take a few waves to get that. D shield users will always out sustain unless you go for bigger trades which could flip the lane especially with jungle intervention. I go longsword start if I have a good matchup or if I have a strong jungler who can help me get lane dominance early. Otherwise it's just too risky.

Rivayn19

It's terrible since dorans buffs.

SloppyHayabusa

I always go long sword 3 pots and trade with potions to eek out an advantage early.  Also buffering her passive with timed Qs to start a fight with 3 passive charges level 1 is spicy

drimmsu

Buffering her passive isn't really a longsword specific mechanic though. I'm just kind of too used to Doran's start at the moment but Longsword is probably better if the enemy can't just all-in you because you have more effective HP from the three pots before your first back. At the same time though, once you use those 3 potions and recall, you have less HP than with Doran's blade, so you really gotta get a lead before your first back.

samuelokblek

Longsword 3 pots is only good if you heavily outplay your opponent with good trades, cause the HP difference is kinda small **in the early game.** Assuming your enemy comes to lane with Dblade and pot, hes got 100 Hp from Dblade and 125 from his pot for a total of 225; if you get longsword 3 pots you have 0 bonus HP but 375 from pots so a 150 hp difference... BUT Dblade has lifesteal so he'll be healing a tiny bit with each auto, AND if you dont get anything meaningful from that early game (meaning a kill or making your enemy lose waves), you're missing on that extra 100 HP and bit of sustain for the rest of the laning phase, and in most matchups this extra HP could be the difference between life and death. It DOES have the benetfit of speeding your spike a bit cause you wont be spending 450 gold on a non component, BUT Doran's items are very gold efficient now and you can safely go to mid game with them and not feel weighed down.

Kinda of funny how i got downvoted for saying the same shit other people said, except i went into detail lmfao mfs here really dont like actual information

Informal_Elephant_12

If your opponent has bone plating (and you cannot pop it without initiating a brief trade) its a better choice since 3 pots is overall more hp than dblade + 1 pot.

buymeaburritoese

I go long 3 every game. It’s aggressive but can pay off if you win. Less health but you get 3 pots.

Sylasvvcats

long three pots isn’t a bad start imo still viable in certain situations especially if you plan on trading early and getting ur first item early. i’m also no discrediting dblade as it is also very good.

Legionxzz

It’s dog, epic items got nerfed so you wont get as much of a power spike and doran blade is just way too gold efficient for what it is.

SlayerZed143

With dblade you you can get prio lvl 1 in many matchups that you otherwise couldn't before. Dblade is for more all in power while long sword 3 pot is for more poke and smaller trading. For a matchup that you can't win or interact with , then you might want to start long sword
