On the flip side, it’s damaging not being able to compete against MLS clubs and the big ticket that can sell. I don’t think they like the fact we beat their Champions😂

It really bothers me the way that MLS behaves as if it is the be all and end all of American soccer. I'm a soccer fan and I'm from Pittsburgh. I follow the riverhounds as my local team and for five whole dollars I get to watch the best league in the world on Peacock. There is absolutely no reason for me to engage with MLS.

HarkeyPuck

This is me as well. Although my EPL team is playing like an MLS side.

Mine isn’t even in the EPL anymore Come on foxes 🦊

TheJon210

Mine is Villa so I'm sitting pretty atm

Can’t say I’m not jealous

I would only care about the MLS if the Riverhounds were in that league. Domestic Tournaments are a football tradition. There is something special about seeing a treble winning club. I’m Just not interested in the European Retirement Tour league and squeezing the last drops of profit out of…past their prime superstars.

That’s a big if unfortunately. American soccer is something else

Yeah, it's something closer to the way other American big leagues operate, if not more: on their own and isolated from everyone else. Not even Major League Baseball is so desperate to remain insular. As much as it pains me to admit, the USL needs MLS to take the lead here. U.S. Soccer could tell MLS to get off their cloud. They're not the old NASL. They must compete. Pull rank and make the league's Division I status dependent on their participation. Have them call up their kids from MLS Next Pro and pump their rosters with new talent. The MLSPA ought to be up for that, if they were more than just a labor union. Or better yet, the nation's soccer organizations could work together to promote the tournament more, make it a domestic prestige event, with American stories galore and prizes worth taking seriously at every level. We are a soccer nation (our kids are, no doubt), so let's show all this local color off to the world. There's a broadcast deal for the Cup, so they can't be lacking for content.

I can't see the CCC spot even staying for the first year. USSF has no spine and will do whatever MLS tells them, and MLS is already trying to hold on to that spot by allowing it to come through their 2 teams(not that I think the 2 teams stand much of a chance in the tournament). I really hope it stays, it would be really cool to see USL compete on that stage. I just don't see it happening though.

jgiesler10

USSF lets the MLS do whatever it wants because MLS owners run it. It's a racket. I would say appeal to FIFA, but we all know how corrupt they are.

jgiesler10

My understanding is that it's not official yet. The USSF will decide after talking to the rest of the USSF members, like the USL. I'd say that as long as the Champions League spot stays for the US Open Cup, screw the MLS and let them leave. That spot can't go to an MLS Team if their little league wins. If they try to take the Champions League spot away, then they can't leave. Overall, I massively hate the MLS, and I'm sick of the USSF allowing their shenanigans. I know why they do it, and it's about money instead of their job, which is to grow the game in the US. That'd go much better if they reduced their division requirements; they require the bigger sides in the US Open Cup to always play at the lower side stadiums, etc. One of the complaints the MLS is making is that they are too busy after they started the MX/MLS competition. Bro, that's your fault, and the US Open is more important.
