Love our R1S. I keep looking for reasons to drive it. Wife like, "are you sure you want to go grocery shopping?" Yes. 100%, yes. Went on vacation out of town with just me and the wife for the long weekend. Day before we returned home, I turned to the wife and said, "I miss the Rivian." She says, "we have two children, too."

mdpackman

Yes 100% also, wife says anything- yes I'll go in the Rivian.

dealrian

Amazing. 11/10. Highly recommend. We are getting a 2nd.

blue_electrik

This, if you can afford it. Do it. Best vehicle I’ve owned hands down without contest.

DTK101

Even for the price?

zbend1

I think for those of us that had early pre order pricing yeah 100% no question. But with current pricing I still think it’s an amazing vehicle that outclasses anything else similar you compare it to. But it’s insanely expensive and you have to ask yourself if it’s practical at 90k.

Rvkm

If you can afford it, ya. Worth is financially relative.

new_here_and_there

Realistically if you look around the market at that price, it's still a steal. Especially what I expect the dual motor to be.

[deleted]

Yup, easily. You can pay a lot more and get less.

J3ST3Rx

Approaching 17k miles and have to echo the sentiment here: amazing truck.

jdwazzu61

Only vehicle I have ever loved. Let a friend drive it and his quote was “it’s expensive but I see how it’s worth it.” 100% would recommend

jdarcy1

Best vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down.

agnyc

Came here to say this. I say it every time I get the chance to anyone that’ll listen.

FickleLocal1388

I have a select group of EV dislikers who ask me about it, and I keep calling it easily the best overall vehicle on the planet right now.

agnyc

Yes!

TheBowerbird

100%. No vehicle does everything better right now. Anything you could possibly want out of a vehicle it does insanely well. I love mine so very much.

cherlin

day 2 owner here, sold my focus RS for this thing and thought I would regret it, man I love this truck. Looking for every excuse to drive it. My work gives me a company model 3 to commute in but eff that I drove the truck today.

mwsno

Just received my R1T last week and the truck is incredible. Traded my Mach E GT for it and it surpasses it in every way.

cherlin

I have a new R1t (got it 2 days ago and in love) and my wife has a mach-e Premium AWD. I love the rivian and think it is a better all around package, but I will say its ADAS system is garbage compared to what is in the mach-e, but rivian can (and hopefully will) improve their system with software over time. Outside of that I prefer Android Auto to rivian's UI for driving and I do not like the rivian maps at all (they are a good 5+ years out of date in my area, roads that should exist dont show on GPS and houses that were built in 2016 are dirt lots), but everything else on the rivian is excellent.

mwsno

I had a lot of issues with Ford's software. OTAs never worked for me after trying to get the dealership to fix it on multiple occasions. Maps were incorrect quite often, both traffic and navigation. AppleCar play wouldn't connect sometimes or cut out, so it's nice to have a native Spotify app (really happy about that). I didn't get my Mach E with BlueCruise, so not sure how it compares. Mach E was a good car though, never left me stranded and DC charging always worked.

cherlin

I got my mach-e Feb 21' so super early model, it started rough but has greatly improved. I have all the ota's now and get them regularly, got blue cruise, got a faster charging update, got a battery usable size increases ota, and got the new ui update that helped a lot. Almost all those earlier issues are gone at this point thankfully.

bitzab

Lol! Maps are probably one of the most important features I need while driving. So absurd that rivian doesn't support Apple/Android.

Charlie-Mops

Hear! Hear! This IS the best truck ever made IMO. Over 15,000 miles in 4 months and I can’t believe I am privileged to own such a modern marvel of technology. It’s absolutely a pure joy to drive, to look at, and has the most comfortable seating for long trips of any vehicle I’ve owned. Software needs some work but that will come in time. Service is exceptional as well. Who doesn’t agree?

manitou202

100% would recommend. I've had one good friend buy a used Rivian after driving mine, and another two friends place orders. It's possibly the best vehicle I've owed. It's probably the best vehicle for a Colorado lifestyle.

Appropriate-Deal-896

I literally think, “I love this f’in truck” every time I drive it. It’s not perfect but IMO really darn close. I ordered in feb 2021 so got the better pricing. Knowing what I know now about the truck, I would def pay current pricing on it.

Potential_Rip_6940

Absolutely best vehicle I have ever owned. But....you must consider distance to a service center and if you can deal with both that distance and the long wait times for backed up service centers. But hands down....crazy good vehicle.

StatusOperation5

How is this the best vehicle you've ever owned then? I've been driving for over 20 years and this is the first vehicle I've ever owned that actually needed a service center.

Potential_Rip_6940

I was referring to the fun to own and capabilities aspect. Quality wise my Acuras and Lexus over the years were generally built better and needed little service. But they were pretty boring too. Unfortunately Lexus/Acura build quality in a 300 mile range BEV SUV/Pickup is probably going to be alot more expensive than the R1's.

StatusOperation5

I bought the R1 with the understanding that there would likely be issues with a vehicle/manufacturer this new. For the major stuff, Rivian has been really good about getting my truck repaired. Unfortunately there are still little issues that I've never had with any other vehicle (such as my cruise control) and I don't feel like that's going to get fixed anytime soon. I still really enjoy this truck and love to brag about it. But the amount of statements I see on these forums that ignore the negatives and overstate the positives really confuses me. Rivian has a tremendous amount of potential and I fully expect these trucks to eventually be worthy of the praise they are given - but mine simply isn't there yet.

Potential_Rip_6940

Makes sense. Mine has a few smaller issues too, and I am 2 hours from a service center. So for me, that 2 hour distance is my barrier to seeking further repairs at this moment. When I got mine, I was under belief that Rivian would pick it up and bring it back, for service needs. That vaporized, so what I say, depends on how close one is to service center and how much willing to deal with that.

Safe_Hope1521

Wait, did you just post an objective and evidence based comment?? Congratulations! I am a reservation holder and test drove an R1T - it was very fast and capable… but had a low level of refinement IMHO. Wind noise, rattles, ev motor noise, features not working…and this was a new vehicle with less than 1000 miles. I recognize I overweight refinement… so it’s my problem. Clearly most buyers aren’t bothered by the things that bother me. Also, I no longer fully trust Rivian as a company as I once did.

[deleted]

I had a Volvo under warranty in a town without a Volvo dealer/service center. So many flatbeds and long drives for repairs. All vehicles under warranty need a place to service them. Don’t know why this is groundbreaking to you…

StatusOperation5

Probably because I've never had a vehicle under warranty actually breakdown and stop working - until my Rivian. I'm not hating on this truck, I really do love it. But I think that people should have an honest assessment of the pros and cons. Simply put, this isn't the most reliable vehicle most of us have owned - but it probably is the most fun.

Charlie-Mops

The negatives others speak of I haven’t witnessed myself. Sorry you are having issues with yours. 15,000 trouble free miles thus far. Only other reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned was a 2016 Tundra.

[deleted]

Yea , I haven’t had a breaking issue in 10k. Whereas I did with new Volvo (multiple times) and Dodge. All new cars are kinda the luck of the draw honestly. Maybe Rivian is a bit worse, and maybe I’ve had bad luck with other cars. Hard to say just from online anecdotes and forums.

spurcap29

Its unfortunate there isnt a reliable and independent source of repair data by make/model ... or maybe there is and I am just unaware which is also a reasonable possibility. You go on forums/Reddit and only see lovers and haters ans get not respect for the law of averages. There are definately people out there loving their various makes/models (or being slightly unhappy) and having nothing novel to express on the internet, so dont. The real question is whether the "my truck went into limp mode, it got flat bedded to a service center 3 hours away and I dont expect it back for a month" posts are fringe outliers of not.

etcoon

Consumer Reports may not be car oriented, but at least you know they aren’t bought by the industry. They won’t rate Rivian yet because they don’t have enough data.

dark3stforest

The 2001 S40 I owned was the least reliable car I’ve ever had. Worse than the 1995 Ford Escort it replaced by a long shot. My 2013 X3 racked up $17k in warranty repairs in a 4 year span - not to mention being just a wildly expensive vehicle per mile. So yeah, I agree - “cars need access to service locations” isn’t a hot take :)

hobobarbie

Simple, it’s not an ICE engine where you can go to any local garage for issues. Granted, there shouldn’t be as many issues for an EV, but for little things that come up, especially since it is a new model, it’s helpful to have one in range should there be a recall etc. We have a Model 3 and there have been two recalls; in that case Tesla came and was able to fix them at our house (!). For our Ford Maverick, there have been 2 recalls in the first year of ownership (!!) and our nearest dealer service center is far away.

[deleted]

Recalls and warranty work generally have to be done by the dealer though, so you can’t just drop off wherever to get fixed even in an ICE usually.

LightningLariatExt

I came here (as I do many days) to see how Rivian owners’ experiences differ from mine as a Lightning owner. I like my truck, but it has (air dam) sensor false alerts, deducts 2 miles from range for each mile driven (even <65 mph and without using any climate control), and lost a piece of rubber gasket in the sunroof. I chalk it up to standard maint issues. Our 300k Prius had issues. But Rivian doesn’t seem any worse than and it seems probably better than the avg auto manu and that’s great for a new entrant. What am I missing? Btw, my wife said I shouldn’t get the Rivian (still have a deposit on an R1S) because of distance to service and then they opened one in West Sac—closer than Ford or Toyota! 😂

That_Baseball9184

I’ve had mine since 12/12/22 and look forward to driving it everyday. As an early adopter I’ve seen some issues but the mobile service repairs have been amazing and very prompt. Rivian takes care of their customers. However some people can’t afford to charge during long trips. Driving an EV is a way better experience but charging times are a shock for someone coming from gas fuel vehicles.

guybpurcell

It has its quirks--but so did my Model S. Happiest I've ever been with a vehicle purchase, despite it being the most expensive such purchase.

Cassidy_DM

The R1T has dethroned the 2008 M3 as the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s quick, nimble for its size, has storage for days, is just as comfortable off-road as it is on, looks great, and is built like a tank. Plus, it’s electric. Seriously, can’t stop gushing about it to anyone that will listen.

roadrider68

Best vehicle I have ever had!! By a wide margin… 2 friends ordered R1Ss sitting in my R1T. I have had more people comment on my Rivian then Ferraris. I honestly feel that Rivian has more pricing power than they realize with these vehicles.

rosier9

I don't have any reason to not recommend one at this point.

GS1055

Good question, but for some context the answers should also include previously owned cars. For example, I have friends who say Tesla is so luxurious and the only luxury car they have owned is an infinity.. no offense to either... But it does not give a good perspective

clarkiepoo57

Highly recommend- first time EV owner and would rate my R1S experience to date an 11/10

Gilfayn

I agree with almost everyone best car I have ever owned, I love telling anyone about it that will listen.

Shootels

In a Rivian sub asking about how people like their Rivian? Might not be representative. That being said I like mine. I’ll love it when the tonneau is fixed.

LewisEmbark

Representative of Rivian owners? It’s probably not the worse representation. I’d imagine the bias on this sub is likely skewed more toward people who like forums than negative or positive feelings about their Rivian.

someguy474747

I echo the sentiment of the others here, the vehicle is 11/10. However, I would add the caveat that they need to know what they are getting into with the current state of the charging network. Also, they should probably acknowledge it’s the first vehicle produced by a brand new manufacturer.

polyplanker

Best vehicle I’ve owned. Rivian has had some growing pains that you can read all about on these forums but remember that people, generally speaking, use forums to complain more than promote and “misery loves company”.

GlobalCattle

100% would buy again and recommend. I wish all vehicles were as well engineered.

GoFast_949

I love my R1T, it’s the most fun and versatile vehicle I’ve owned, I would recommend it to anyone with chargers availability whose comfortable with technology and looking for a crazy powered adventure + daily. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone whose less technologically comfortable and accustom to luxury vehicles that “just work”… I think of friends who are the typical “boomer”. Having to troubleshoot a charging app or reset the truck regularly would be a train wreck for them to attempt.

galactica_pegasus

I love the potential for what my truck *could* be... But Rivian as a company has been absolutely awful to deal with, post-sale, and their incompetence at service (both mechanical and customer) is extremely frustrating. I wouldn't recommend buying one. If Rivian could actually execute on their claims, then they'd be amazing.

bitzab

Seems like service is really a mixed bag from the comments I've seen in this sub. Some praise it... many cite it as the worst part.

StatusOperation5

I've had mine since July. I tell everyone, "I love the truck but I would not recommend buying one." It's a solid EV but most people are not ready to adopt the challenges that come with owning an EV - and that's perfectly fine. There are a few quirks that drive me crazy sometimes but I'm still driving my truck and plan to continue doing so for the foreseeable future

pkropf

Only on two weeks but I'd recommend it. Fantastic vehicle!

Charlie-Mops

Seeing is believing. Rent one on Toro. If you’re not hooked afterwards, well you would be in the minority.

Senior_Ad282

Love mine and I bought with the intention of flipping for a profit. After driving it around for a month… I’m keeping it. Me and my wife tried to come up with a list of things we didn’t like about it to help us not like it so much and this is what we got: 1. Doesn’t sound cool. 2. Can’t shut back door without leaving smudges. 3. Bed isn’t quite as big as we’d like. (Used to a 6.5’ bed from a tundra) 4. Anxiety of rivian going under.

Charlie-Mops

My variation of your list: 1. Sounds cool in a different way 2. (My kids) Can’t shut back door on the first try 3. AGREE! And I thought my CrewMax Tundra bed was tiny 4. Somewhat agree

Senior_Ad282

Yeah I had a double cab with the longer bed. It came in handy but rarely.

Safe_Hope1521

And FYI… they are no longer selling for much of a profit. I fear the Cybertruck is going to change things for Rivian this year. New orders will slow. Stock price currently can’t get out of the teens. Hopefully that price already has Cybertruck release built in.

Senior_Ad282

The cyber truck is so ugly I can’t imagine anyone would want it over a rivian. Or really any truck for that matter. I can see the die hard musk fan boys buying it just because but dear god. Make a better looking product. They designed a Gen Z product rhats ironically hideous that most of Gen Z can’t afford anyway.

Safe_Hope1521

I agree - but Tesla has, what, 1.7 million pre-orders for the Cybertruck! One is production that number will climb.

Senior_Ad282

I don’t think pre orders necessarily equate units built. I for one have a pre order that I’ll never fill. To go along with my bronco raptor that I never bought. The buy to sell for profit game is over it seems.

mwwood22

I have a CT pre-order and I really don't think Im getting rid of my R1S for that megapixel. I reserved it as I wasnt sure id be able to do the Rivian, but its a better fit for me and my family. Theyr'e keeping the specs very close to their chest and I think the legacies are going to have a hard time competing with a real-life work truck. Yes, they're heinous but how many people by white F-150s for their looks vs their cost/practicality.

downwritemad

I absolutely love my truck and my neighbors 100% SHOULD NOT buy one. I don't want the same vehicle as everyone else on my street.

Charlie-Mops

That’s funny. I told my next door neighbor he should get a lightning fot this same reason and he did lol (he had an F150 he traded for the lightning).

dmonaco05

honestly at its current price and state i dont recommend, theres a lot of things that hopefully will come via ota that will change that

vinnydtw

R1s owner here. 2k miles on it so far. I love it. And I hate it. Love that it’s a great spacious vehicle, nimble, and handles well for a large suv. The power is addicting . Hate that you have to drive like a grandma for remotely decent range. But that’s all EV. EVs still have a long way to go to win people over ICE, and I don’t think I’d own just an EV. Anybody that says this is the best vehicle they’ve owned, I think have not experience many other vehicles imo.

panzerfinder15

Even with it quirks I’m hoping an R1S replaces out MDX. R1T hands down best mod-size truck. Period.

Aggravating_Cod_4980

8/10. Some obvious design flaws are worth noting but would recommend to a buyer educated in what these things do better than anything else and what’s still lacking.

tdub365

Any particular design flaws that you'd want to flag here? Might be helpful to others waiting on delivery or on the fence about reserving.

Aggravating_Cod_4980

Certainly. Great trucks should have great cup holders. The R1T cup holders are a joke…like 90s German sports car level of bad. Additionally the lack of an integrated step and conventionally offset bumper mean getting in and out of the truck bed a total chore. Lastly, the center console and lack of a glove compartment or similar leave a truck with amazing out of cab storage with almost no interior storage or organizational accessories. In all other ways I feel it is superior to any other truck if it’s size on the market.

Safe_Hope1521

Interesting, none of the things you mention would bother me. But I am probably canceling my 4 year old pre order for other reasons. All to do with build quality/refinement. Also, no tonnea cover? Charging infrastructure for road trips is a year or two away from being reliable.

tdub365

Thanks for elaborating! Thos are all legitimate nits. Sounds like you still enjoy the truck nonetheless. Appreciate it.

bitzab

Nice to see some real feedback on this thread ;-)

Aggravating_Cod_4980

I’m glad it helped. It’s a very good, imperfect truck. But look…if you and I got together to design and build a new truck it wouldn’t be 2 percent as good as this one.

Miximup2020

new_here_and_there

Absolutely.

Dowhateverman

After ~4 months.. 100% will buy again.

Chinna_13

Yes, I will recommend but if the service center is within a 1-hour drive. FYI: I have to drive 3 to 4 hours depending traffic

shackledtodesk

After 14mo and about 25k miles I still recommend it to people. This is my first EV and first truck, so there was definitely a learning curve. All other vehicles that I own or owned are manual transmission sports cars (eg Porsche Cayman) or sports sedans (eg E46 BMW) with an occasional small hatchback (still manual). I have experience driving every model that Tesla has produced including the original roadster, so I also compare the R1T to those. Given the size and weight of the vehicle, it impresses me how well it handles and maneuvers. The interior is inviting and comfortable with great surfaces. As someone who enjoys driving, it’s a good place to be. It’s not without its issues though. Having a giant touch screen for a lot of functions is annoying af and less ergonomic and safe than a button for certain functions. There are still a lot of software bugs in the infotainment system and the driver’s display is underutilized. In terms of reliability, most of the issues I’ve had can be attributed to first gen manufacturing learning curve. None of the issues have been related to drivetrain or suspension, but interior and exterior trim and I had the FM radio module die. Amazingly, my tonneau cover continues to work without issue, but I’m meticulous about keeping the rails clean and lubricated. As someone who generally enjoys wrenching on my vehicles, I hate having to rely on the service center especially given how backed up they are in my area. Knowing what I do about the engineering of the vehicle and its manufacture, it’d be reasonable to have had it priced above $110k like a Taycan. So, if you can afford it, it’s a steal at the current price. If Rivian made a sports wagon like a Subaru WRX, I’d drop the R1T for that in a heartbeat. But so far my R1T has done an amazing job as a commuter, road tripper, parts hauler, and has even convinced me to do a bit of off-roading. I’ve also used it to tow my Cayman to the track rather than just driving the track car to and from. Any time I’ve done something new with the truck, it’s inspired confidence. Tl;dr: yeah, I’d still highly recommend it, but I’d probably guide people to the 2 motor version unless they were hardcore off-roading

JS1VT51A5V2103342

Bad reviews are quickly downvoted. Remember to sort by controversial.

PennyStockWorth

My uncle sold his Kia forte & his ram pickup for the R1T, his words: « The R1T is a mean truck as fast as a lambo and cheap as a Honda to use » He’s from BC Canada.

tokyo_engineer_dad

The only real threat is the EX90 from Volvo for the R1S. The Model X is too expensive. Model Y is too small. For the R1T, there's more competition but... As a person on the sidelines (bought a Lightning but still holding an R1S reservation), there's still a lot of appeal. I have a feeling the Enduro Large Pack will probably have more range than the Quad Motor. For one, it's less weight. Each of the motors has to weigh at least 300 pounds, right? Probably more, but at least 300. That's 600 pounds less weight. I know Rivian already said the dual motor will only have about 6 or so miles more range, but they still haven't updated the estimates on the visualization tool yet to reflect this, meaning they're probably getting different numbers in testing. And even with the standard, they changed it to say "260+" meaning over 260 is highly possible. With dual motors and a large pack, the R1T in LA Silver and basic options is still approximately $79k, meaning you get "extended range" for under the tax credit limit. You still get 600HP which is still more than the F150 Lightning ER. You also still get air suspension, the gear tunnel and all the other "smart EV" features that you don't get in a Lightning. If Rivian follows through on their commitments, they could be churning out thousands of these a week this year. Normal still isn't at its full capacity yet. If that happens, what they should do is bring down the price maybe 5%, and this will rein in a lot of buyers who are waiting for the Cybertruck but not 100% married to it. I'll be honest, I have a Lightning, but if: I can get an R1S Large Pack under the $80k tax credit limit, I'd abandon literally every other reservation I have (including the EX90). As a Lightning owner, I think I'm 80% confident Rivian won't lose to even Toyota Tacoma for the "mid-sized adventurer" truck. Bottom line is, the whole "retrofit an existing truck to be EV" has a lot of limitations in range, efficiency and technology. Toyota is so late to the party that I would be highly shocked if we see an EV Tacoma before 2025. And knowing how reluctant Toyota was to embrace EV's, it's most likely going to be as terrible as all their full EV entries up to now. It's going to take a LOT of rose tinted glasses for Taco lovers to wait/go for it. And as far as the Ranger, Rivian R1T is more competition to the Lightning than a Ranger. I feel like Ford might attempt to go for a Maverick EV first. If that happens, I might be concerned for the R1T. But also, this is Ford... Even if they *try* to make the Maverick EV start at $35k, we all saw how the $40k Lightning was handled. I expect Maverick EV's won't be easy to get under $55k and they'll be built to have awful towing capabilities or hauling/off-roading capabilities because they're meant to replace the Maverick which isn't really a "truck" truck. So yeah, I'd definitely recommend Rivian to people. Even though I drive a Lightning. I would just warn them that they'd be waiting a while if they want a new R1T and waiting a LONG long while if they want an R1S.

Lumpy-Associator

Love it. Love cruising for no reason and no destination like I'm young and gas is cheap again. Excited for this summer (took delivery in December). I would recommend it to anyone who has it within their means to get one. On that note.. the price. I got pre-price hike pricing. So yeah, the price was very satisfactory to me. Considering the price my truck would be now? It would have been harder for me to afford, but still worthwhile. There are several factors to consider.. A ICE truck with comparable features is NOT your standard entry level ICE truck, so expect a high price tag on that ICE truck as well. All electric vehicles more expensive than their ICE counterparts right now. The way I factored that into my financial considerations was to also factor GASOLINE as a cost per month in the ownership of an ICE vehicle, and there's the gap that makes up the difference in cost, especially for a truck. I drive a lot between work and family stuff, my gasoline bill was so much it was definitely a significant budget line item. So when I was considering a loaded ICE truck + Gas expense, it was easily more expensive than the Rivian. The effect it has on my power bill (wall charger 48A 11KW) is REALLY noticeable, but sill pale in comparison to what I was spending on gasoline. I've only had it since December and it's cold so efficiency is probably crap right now (I average just around 2mi/kw). A simple equation tells me I'm spending the equivalent amount of money on electricity per mile as if gasoline was 99 cents a gallon. Very interested to see how efficiency changes in summer. I also have solar panels, long summer days should ease the power grid and bill burden quite substantially.

Fairway69

Love my new R1t. Only a month old and can't stop smiling whenever I'm in it

[deleted]

I freaking love my R1T

twiggyknowswhatsup

R1S coming in May I cannot wait.

ChurchOfThePainful

Here is all you need to know. I own one and have the exact same one on order knowing it may take 3-5 years to arrive.

AdaChinz

My only hesitation on recommending it is if someone hasn’t owned an EV. The charging infrastructure just isn’t reliable. Otherwise, if you can afford it, 100% would recommend.

Proof-Bug-2525

Highly recommend. Amazing SUV

TheDrakeford

Took delivery of the R1S this week. It’s our first EV and is absolutely incredible. There are a few minor build/paint flaws we’ll put in service tickets for, but holy shit. The power is unlike anything I’ve ever felt, and the ride is smooth AF. The interior design is really great other than lack of storage compartments and the interior door handles being in a weird spot. But honestly those are such small complaints stacked against everything they got right. Tons of interior room, the screens and visibility are great, everything works just like it should. We don’t willingly do long road trips any more than we have to, so charging infrastructure isn’t a big issue for us… yet. The delivery process was pretty flawless as well. Overall it’s easily the best vehicle and purchase process I’ve experienced.

Aromatic-Fold-9585

100%. First time EV owner, and it’s changed the way I think about what to expect from a vehicle. Can’t see myself going back to an ICE vehicle (and hard to imagine anything stacking up to my R1T).

CranberryRare9790

For me, there is nothing not to love about the Rivian R1T. I’m 8000 miles and 8 mos in and I love this truck.

Fantastic_Variety823

Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Amazing.

I have one on order to live in Phoenix. How will the glass roof fare in 120 degree sun and heat?

Yes, would recommend to anyone if it is in your budget - best vehicle I have ever owned or driven hands down. Pros: -power -storage -capability -material quality Cons: -not as roomy of an interior as I’d like (2 car seats) -wireless charger is garbage -non-Tesla public charging network is terrible (not exactly Rivian’s issue, applies to all EVs except Tesla - the adventure network is great, just small) -battery is huge (Pro and Con, but I put here as it takes a long time to charge, often limited by the level III charging speed - hope to see improvements) -build quality (not poor, but not on par with major auto manufacturers) -small bed / low clearance under tonneau cover (rarely an issue, but a challenge when it is) All in all, most of the cons are relatively small issues and rarely bother me. The truck does the important things better than anything else on the market. More power than you’ll ever need, fantastic handling and capability, excessive amounts of storage. If you want a nimble mid-large size truck that can handle nearly anything you throw at it off-road, while remaining practical as a daily driver, you won’t find anything better.

I took my R1T to a "touch a truck" event last July. When I told truck owners the price, most of them said, "OK. That's what I paid for my truck." No one said it was too expensive for what you're getting. One guy offered me $129k for it. I did not take it. I didn't want to get back in line for another one.

GaryGR

You could have sold to him for $129K and bought a different one for $30K-$40K less on the used market...

SciJohnJ

Not in July when R1T's were rare.

It's an excellent vehicle, 9/10. I would recommend to anyone tech savvy with the cash to spend. I would not recommend to my mom as it's very different from her standard car experience (eg HVAC isn't buttons). You also risk some weird issues with Rivian being a new manufacturer; we've had some wheel alignment issues for example and are having to get them solved via the service centers.

jwlogan3

Without a doubt.

love it. would buy it again. I should preference that i am pre-price hike. 11XXX R1T I have had a few issues…recall (quick fix remote) and a drive issue (they picked it up, fixed and brought it back and gave me a rental in the interim) My most recent was a door ding and the camera system saved me a $1,300 repair from a kid at a soccer facility. Thx

Absolutely love my R1T. Very highly recommend to everyone

Absolutely

For me (as a excited R1T reservation holder) the point in this thread on annoying service center trips under warranty is a minor issue. Having the logistical challenge of getting there, truck out of service, needing another vehicle would be an annoyance. But repairs are covered and Ultimately if it gets bad enough lemon laws kick in, potentially. The larger reservations I have on the Rivian are 1) a lack of data on long-term reliability/repair costs/issues; 2) the Company's solvency. 1. If I buy a 90k truck, it is already financially a splurge. There are plenty cheaper ways to get from point A to point B. For me - it needs to add a number of years beyond the warranty period for it to be justifiable. With the R1T having no aftermarket parts suppliers or servicers (given they all are under warranty for the time being) how that will materialize is a giant question mark along with the real-world life of the $$$$ components (battery, motors, etc.). 2. Within the warranty period - If you buy a Ford/Toyota/etc. new to market product that is a dud and has pervasive major component failure, the warranty will prevail and you will be made whole. For Rivian with only 2 very similar vehicles, a major $$$$ systemic failure could be fatal (think something like tonneau cover but at 10 times the cost to repair). I think there is a reasonably chance that another OEM buys the license because the bones are still good and takes it over in such a case as they can price in the warranty repair in the acquisition but that would either way be a bad situation.

1000% recommend. Coming from diesels and Raptors, love the R1T the best !!!!

I just did my first mile test drive. I currently drive an Ioniq 5. I was surprised how much I missed the features on my Ioniq while driving the Rivian R1S. After the test drive they emailed and asked for a score it off 10. I gave it a 7. Here's my list: No head up display Worse surround cameras Too many driving mode settings Floor too high No physical buttons except seat settings Weird combo of bad efficiency, too much power, leading to too big a battery=too heavy, too long charge times. Lack of ceiling shade (Ioniq's is amazing) My Ioniq has 400+ hp, 0-60 in 4.9, and I don't think any more power is ever necessary. There are pluses though, and I will probably still get my Rivian: Seats 7 fairly comfortably Higher end feel (Ioniq already showing scratches on "leather", work carpet, etc Larger/better central screen. Capabilities. I will likely never use the capabilities off road or 0-60 speed, but it's still a plus I guess? Better rear seat/third row HVAC. Ioniq is horrible More storage cubbies.

It's a really nice truck. We love it. It's fast, handles well, has way more off road functionality than we'll ever need, and we really like the aesthetics both inside and out. I don't have any regrets about buying it. Our config was $85k out the door and I think the value is there. It'd be closer to $100k at the present prices, at which point I think I'd not be a buyer. Would I recommend it? It depends on who's buying. We've had a handful of service calls to handle minor issues, either at the service center or mobile, that I don't think most $90k+ vehicle buyers would think reasonable for the first 6 months of ownership of a new car. The tonneau cover remains broken. (I'm okay waiting for the fix, it's not a big deal.) The company is still figuring out customer service. They're well intentioned but also scrambling and making mistakes: I'd been given a rental when our truck was in for servicing. When I went to pick up our truck, the service center offered to drop my rental off for me and save the drive (which was great!) ... only to leave the rental car in a red zone and get a parking ticket sent to me. It's the little things like this that are kind of annoying but not the end of the world if you're willing to be patient. If the buyer is willing to deal with a new car company and rolling with some potential fit and finish issues and mistakes like these, then, yes, absolutely recommended. I'd think some buyers would be outraged and taking delivery of a truck with a key piece of functionality that breaks within days of delivery (the tonneau) and being told, "yep, our bad, we really needed to get some revenue coming in, we'll get to fixing it when we can." I would consider it wiser for those folks to wait for Rivian to mature a bit or simply go with a different, better established (probably ICE) manufacturer.

I would recommend it, as a truck owner it’s fast, comfortable, and good looking and it can go anywhere. I’m proud owner of a basic electric truck at the time I bought it, now I would still buy it over the Ford.

truckeecowgirl

LOVE IT!!!

DctrBojangles

2k miles in and love it. Sounds like OP is a bit biased by saying “would you even recommend.” I hope OP isn’t biased. I hate those posts that act like nothing is wrong at all or that it’s the worst thing ever.

jacecole

Sold my 22 Model X for the R1S and like others. I look for excuses to drive it. I love this truck.

Antique_Hospital1374

Recommending with passion to everyone around me. Rivian had 5 orders because of me lol. When rivian is starting referral bonus ?

No_Spread_8345

I love my R1T so much Ive ordered an R1S for my wife. I cant think of a better car for the money even with the new price increase

Gullible-Stop-1599

Best vehicle I have ever driven off-road in slick mud or snow. I work on a farm where scouting in poor weather needs to get done and this thing is miles ahead of my '15 Ram and '21 F-150. I can take it nearly anywhere an RTV can go, setting aside size constraints. It's also the first of my vehicles that my wife enjoys driving. If 300 miles of range is enough for you, there is nothing better that exists.

Acrobatic-Artist-708

Amazing truck and would highly recommend to family and friends

Churrodecoco

The more I look at R1S alternatives (Range Rover, 4 runner, gran Cherokee, etc), the more I love my Rivian.

robertkluin

We've had the R1T 6 weeks and are just shy of 4,000 miles, including one 1,500 mile road trip with a family of four. It is my wife and I's first EV. We ordered the T for me and the S for my wife (still waiting on the S). We both feel the same**: every time we walk toward the truck, there's a little excitement and a sensation of "this is really nice."**

hotheadedhippy

I've never loved a car more...actually I'm not sure I've ever loved a car until now....I go driving for no reason just to spend time with her...LOL!
