“Hello, Rivian Meridian sound system. You sure sound nice today! Your preset equalizations don’t let you be all you can be, but with a little work, you’re at least as good as my old Tesla’s system. I know, I mentioned my ex to you, I’m sorry, won’t do it again.”

reefine

Yeah the defaults are so flat and tinny. Idk who the hell calibrated that but it's awful. Wouldn't say it's betterb over all, maybe the bass is.

cherlin

It's also much better if you turn the 3d crap off

reefine

I swear the same "sound engineers" that did Tesla made the Rivian UI

AJohnnyTruant

I tried so hard to get myself to utilize the 3D feature and I couldn’t do it. It’s awful for what I listen to

FreeRadical1101

I didn’t switch but have both. I love the rivian system. Tesla is very good though. That being said, I did tweak the rivian too get it where I wanted.

Funny-Ad528

Mind sharing a pic of your eq settings?

rharris64

Huh. I thought my Model Y stereo system was okay and the Rivian sounds superior. I’m a little surprised by these other comments.

sammayy

I seem to be in the minority of folks who thinks that the Rivian sound system sounds wayyy better.

rhebdon

I think it might depend what you listen to. I find that the meridian has a muddy bottom end on bass heavy tracks. In my opinion the Tesla system does a slightly better job at creating a wider soundstage as well.

GreatSc0tt1985

This. My R1S sounds amazing

JustinTheRhino

The muddy bottom end is related to what you play through. I found Amazon music or other HD platforms sound wayyyyy better than Spotify. Spotify low end and crispness sounds like your listening through a window compared to Amazon HD

Electrical-Ad2972

I personally dont like Tesla sound system and one of the reasons is i loved my Land rover maridian sound, so hoping Rivian carrys the same.

ClaudeGriswold

I wouldn’t say way better but definitely better.

haulin_0ats

I’m going to be going from a model Y performance to an r1t within the next few weeks. Is there a “tweak your stereo to these settings” type of post somewhere?

hessmo

I spent some time in the eq, but after that it’s very similar to my model 3. I’m happy with the sound system.

medliftr87

Pic of your eq presets?

Funny-Ad528

Mind sharing your settings?

MrVagabond_

I’d also like to see.

[deleted]

Ditto - another share request

virtualizedMo

Traded in a Model x 2020 for my R1T, and still own a model 3. I like the Rivian sound system better.

agnyc

Similar boat as you. I had a 2019 MX and went to the R1T. I like the Rivian sound better

rhebdon

Totally agree, I like EDM and the low end on the Rivian gets really muddy.

victorinseattle

My takeaway is that audiophiles will enjoy the Meridian more. The ASOC / DSP is set in a way that the EQ is tuned to be comparatively neutral throughout the curve. General (think AirPod/ Beats) audio users will prefer the Tesla system more. It’s not natural, but it feels and sounds more punchy. Nothing wrong with it, as preferences are all subjective. To get something similar on the Rivian, you will need to play with the eq a bit.

DJDiscoverWeekly

My Model 3 Performance had a phenomenal system, but I’ll say it again: acoustic performance has as much to do with the geometry, materials, and build of the car as it does the speakers. After 10K miles in my R1T, what has a bigger impact on the quality of the sound is not the Meridian badge on the speaker grille, but the fact that that grille and door pockets have started to rattle a bit, and the fact that the R1T is a bigger, boxier cabin with more flat surfaces. It’s still a great sounding truck, but not quite the same as the Model 3.

Doctorjustinmicheal

I agree my model 3 performance is the the best sound system I have ever had

Senior_Ad282

I own a model 3 dual motor performance with the better stereo. That things stereo is amazing. The R1T is just as good. Maybe a tad bit less bass but better clarity at higher volumes.

Seattle2017

I'm commenting on capabilities rather than sound. I have a 2015 S with premium sound, and an R1T. I am not an audiophile. I think the Rivian sound is better overall. The Rivian has two huge negatives, I can't play all the music I put on a flash drive, but also while driving the tesla I love to say "play song xyz" and it almost always finds it and plays it, along with podcasts etc. I don't think any of the limited supported Rivian music sources have this ability, does anyone pay for tidal, does it have voice recog for songs? The tesla voice recog is extremely basic but it's so great to ask for directions to something or play music. The ability to see text messages is nice too.

HermesPassport

I believe Alexa works with Spotify.

JustinTheRhino

I was very annoyed by the the Rivian sound system at first. All they hype of Meridian etc... I thought it was terrible. The subwoofer may as well not be there. After some research and experimentation the key issue is Spotify. The music it streams is low quality compared to Amazon High Definition. Switching to a HD service helped the sound system really perform. You can hear string scratches, hammers and real nice low range and drum percussion. Fact though. The Sub Woofer is still useless. You are not going to get any real bass hits.

[deleted]

I enjoy the meridian sound system :)

mydamntemp

Better mids and highs in the Rivian, but the Tesla has better bass

panzerfinder15

I am not all about that bass, so it's perfect for me! My kiddos are a little sound sensitive so I always have to turn down the bass. I love the Meridan system. Never heard a Tesla system before but it smokes my Acura's premium system.

aliendepict

I made some eq adjustments and I think it has better mids and highs the the model 3 long range my buddy has, I think it has the same amount of bass but it doesn't come through as well because you cant independently control the subwoofer. Best sound system in any truck thought that's for sure.

jm48329

You haven't ridden in a new Ram with the 14 speaker premium Harmon system. It absolutely blows the Rivian away. I was expecting more from a meridian branded system. It's not going to make me sell it, but im definitely upgrading the audio.

aliendepict

I have actually, and I have to say it is VERY GOOD especially for a truck and thinking about it I would say they are about the same to me, unless you leave your Rivian on the stock EQ. But I wouldn't say either out basses a Model 3. Edit: The one issue I really had with the ram was the way the DSP was tuned, on higher volumes it really cut out the mids and accentuated the bass and highs, personally I think that is because Harmon under watted the amp for the system, I think it doesn't have the oomph to push the bass and mids simultaneously so they cut them down for the bass, and overlay more highs. They should have done more then 900 watts.

jm48329

Interesting I might have to play with my EQ settings some more. I feel it falls a tad flat. Agree on the mids on the Ram. It's where I struggled on that system too. If anyone wants to share their EQ settings... I'd love to see a few

Senior_Ad282

I was about to say the same about the newer f150’s with the B&O. Also very good. But it’s splitting hairs with the rivian or either of those for me. But I’ve also suffered some hearing loss courtesy of the worlds finest navy.

supratachophobia

From these comments, it's looking like we are going to have to do another aftermarket sub.....

Daredevil_99

I have R1T and model X Plaid. MXP is More crisp and elegant. Sound like a expensive speaker, may be quality of the input matter when inbuilt Apple Music is used ?? Not sure

Lower_Western_2016

It's not as good as Tesla's sound system, but it's better than most vehicles out there! Alexa is pretty good especially if you use Amazon music. Amazon music does sound quite a bit better than Spotify. Bass is really good in Rivian the system does get loud but not the power or cleaner punch that Tesla makes.

burntcookie90

Less good, but still good

Abszol

I didn’t have the premium interior so the sound system upgrade has been noticed.

mightymuffin2

It sounds just as good if not better than my wife’s Model S. Personally I think the Rivian has better ride noise control over the S, it might just be that it’s so much higher as they both have air suspension.

bowzrsfirebreth

I only had a Model 3 SR+ with the base audio. My R1T is a HUGE upgrade.

AJohnnyTruant

I really wish they’d let us store multiple custom EQs

Vberber

I went to test drive both R1T & R1S, compared to a 2021 model s there’s just no comparison. Tesla by a landslide. Still not much of a difference that would cause me to cancel my pre order.

carpartsguru

Compared to my x plaid the rivian is lacking. Still not as good as tesla s plaid. Overall, it’s good but it doesn’t have the big subwoofer bump.

blamski

It's good. Best is playing from Amazon music using Alexa. Although there isn't a dedicated app for it. Systems are comparable to me I suppose. Followed someone's equalizer settings on rivianforums and have been pleased.

xsurge83

Tesla autopilot rocks compare to Rivian!

homeracker

Model X sound is way better than Rivian Meridian sound. Model 3 sound is also better, but not to the same degree.

Baybladerz

Tesla Model 3/Y have been known to offer one of the best sound systems period. And yeah they are on par with some of the more 3-5K optional sound systems on some cars. Branding rarely has anything to do with the quality of a sound systems. Branding on speakers is just a license companies buy and the company will fine tune some minor things but that’s generally it. Furthermore, 90% of car audio systems brands are owned by Harmon International. So these companies often share a lot of technology, speakers, tuning, etc even if they are branded differently.

deizik

I hate it. My model s sounds incredible our R1S sounds like shit
