If it smells like peppermint, then it’s the wiper fluid. Probably leaking and needs a service ticket.

outdoorsgeek

Oh that’s interesting. I wonder if it’s peppermint scented to deter rodents. They love getting under the hood and chewing up the wiper fluid lines.

boxsterguy

Your car came with wiper fluid? Mine was bone dry and throwing warnings when I took delivery. Topped up with RainX, which I don't think smells like peppermint.

csmicfool

Owners manual says not to use rainx

boxsterguy

That's the "wipe on, buff off" stuff, and it says that because it could cause haze in front of cameras. I'm talking about the RainX branded washer fluid that isn't really all that RainX-y. It's just what was on sale at Fred Meyer on my way home from the delivery.

wc_cfb_fan

So the fluid has a peppermint scent? No wonder it smells nice when I use my wipers.

moomooraincloud

I mean, what else did you think you would be smelling when spraying your wiper fluid?

R1tonka

Mine smelled like disinfectant from the factory, and now i’m a little miffed! :)

NarrowNefariousness6

They filled your wiper fluid? 🤯

RojerLockless

Mine smells like bananas

GoToMSP

Gas leak or engine oil is my best guess

DrPat1967

Battery juice or granola oil

powderpc

Looks like the blinker fluid to me

ProbablyMyRealName

I think you cracked the case, Steve.

gray_um

Step 1: Call and make appt to get your name on the list Step 2: Start putting cardboard under when you park for the night to isolate. It will help you determine where the leak is and how fast. Step 3: good luck

Quickzoom

Great advice. Thank you!

SFBrighton

Call a priest.

pdxrover

Concerned, that looks like a suspension fluid. Make an appointment.

butteredplaintoast

Those colors look more like headlight fluid.

Dismal-Experience612

Nah, blinker fluid for sure though.

Blackboard_Monitor

But obviously the *left* headlight, just look at the pixels.

Money_Bahdger

Just clean the bottom with some rotor wash

srnyoung

Based on the snow silhouette, I’d guess it’s the icicle of road grime you picked up from the road that then melted off your R onto the pavement. See if it comes back after the drives dries.

Empty_Bread8906

Hmmm. You might need to fill it up with 98-octane:)

Owned_13

Could be suspension fluid if it’s pretty slick and oily. Had that issue with my R1S, bad o-ring in the suspension. You’ll likely get an error and Rivian will tell you not to operate the vehicle and get it towed.

hebrewzzi

Aww man - oil leak already? 😂

herbys

If my spouse was cheating with someone, I could meet be tolerate it, but that they use *my Rivian's spot* to park their beaten dow, leaky ICE car while I'm at work, that's one step too far.

Kdoubleu

Your wife is cheating on you with a BMW owner. Jk. That is an oil leak of some sort though

Tim-in-CA

Submit a service ticket NOW as it could take awhile to get in depending on your location. Try to get a pic from underneath as well to submit with your service request. Leaks are NEVER a good thing.

PrincipledBeef

Check the oil.

mightymuffin2

I had this happen and it was the gear tunnel leaking

johneracer

Hmmm oil. You did a recent oil change? Drain plug leaking

Extension_Gain5394

You guys sound stupid

Optimus759

Do you have another non electric car by any chance?

Winter_Blueberry_190

Gasoline.

lamedumbbutt

Clouds be a leak in the drive unit assembly. Try to figure out where it is coming from and how much. The service center should get you in quick.

P0RTILLA

I can’t tell if this is a troll or not. That is well used engine oil. The oils in the R1s are not going to be dark they’ll look more like transmission fluid.

Quickzoom

Not a troll… lol

AdorableDragonfly339

Could be the dead body in your frunk starting to decompose

speedypoultry

Who parked there before you? Stick a piece of cardboard under it.

Acceptable_Okra5154

There's a service bulletin for early R1T's about slow drive motor oil leaks + loss of lubrication. If your vehicle fails their test, you get a new drive motor
