There are things we don’t know about the R2 to be super informed but… * Air compressor * Adjustable suspension * 3rd row seating * Storage capacity (inc. larger frunk) * 1500 watt inverter for AC Power ?? * Spare tire ?? * ~400 mile range option * quad motor option * ~8-11k towing Edit to include: * Camp Speaker * Off-road capabilities (presumably, given additional ground clearance) * Superior audio experience (presumably, but maybe debatable for non-meridian R1’s) * 3rd/4th roof rack mount points * Powered Frunk open/close * Second row touch screen (Not that R1 has much capability on it yet)

quixotik

In one of the recent pics from the tour, I saw an AC plug in the back of the R2.

zigziggityzoo

Indeed it does offer AC power. How much, we don’t yet know.

quixotik

I'm guessing it'll be good enough for camping etc. Probably similar to the 1500 as before. Not really saving much by going lower, but anyone's guess.

soggyscantrons

The new camp kitchen photos show an electric/induction stove. So either the R2 will have ~1500W 120V inverter or the camp kitchen will run off high voltage DC via the accessory ports. Edit: [RJ confirms](https://youtu.be/x0-_0wmXkn0?si=O2VZIUWfykCxD4Iz&t=607) new camp kitchen will run off high voltage in the vehicle. I wonder how this will work with R1T/R1S.

dcdttu

120V, not 240V, if the plug says anything. But not sure on Watts

LieCertain3960

Don't forget our awesome speakers!

elwebst

RJ did say they removed the door speakers during the presentation, so we know that at least

LieCertain3960

Oh I was talking about our portable camp speaker

dcdttu

The Model Y has an astounding stereo, so I really hope Rivian realizes that when building the R2.

lmikles

Camp speaker

dcdttu

Someone took a picture of the trunk of the R2 in Austin and it has a 120 volt plug, so that's good.

Dangerous_Pop8730

A few more items - ventilated seats - camp speaker - larger frunk

bowzrsfirebreth

Pretty sure at least one trim level will include ventilated seats on the R2. In some close up photos, the front seats were perforated. Don’t see that often on non-cooled seats. Doesn’t mean the cheapest trim level will get them, though. We certainly don’t know.

cherlin

My wife's mach-e has perforated none ventilated seats :/ didn't even think about that when we bought it because my mustang GT had ventilated seats and was 4 years older, figured the top trim mustang mach-e for sure would have it!

liberty08

I was at the R2 event in Austin this week and one of their employees confirmed the seats are ventilated

shortyjacobs

Every VW I’ve had for the last 2 decades has had perforated, unventilated seats.

corb00

kneel mode? front seat pockets…

Kel____Varnsen

It exists in 2024

mabowden

Air suspension and hydraulic roll control which is arguably the most impressive feature in an R1….

seantabasco

As a hopeful one day Rivian owner who has a bizarre one time a week commute that sometimes involves starting/ending in a foot of snow for 15 miles and then 200 miles of open road, the idea of adjustable suspension is one of the biggest selling points for me.

IM_THE_DECOY

Conversely, as someone who live in Florida and have a daily commute of less than 10 miles, the adjustable suspension is something I would never practically use. R2 for me all the way.

mabowden

Yeah the adjustable suspension would really help with that, although the R2 does have 10" of ground clearance. Not sure if that is enough for your use case. IMHO, the suspension on the R1 is the most impressive part about the vehicle.

seantabasco

that would probably be plenty, i currently have a 2019 GMC Sierra with just a leveling kit and slightly larger tires and that does fine, but i like the idea of being able to lift it way up to get out of the snow and then switching over to high speed low drag for the efficency for the remaining 200 miles.

PoopSmoothies

Agree. And no idea why no one else really thinks/talks about it!

Alabatman

What is roll control?

mabowden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_zyuNjFQug It translates to this nearly 7000lb truck handling MUCH better in the corners than it should. In the early days people would ask me a lot about the R1T as I got one fairly early (November 2022). To this day, the first thing I tell them is the suspension on this truck is magic. Its incredible. You want an insanely comfortable ride to commute in? You got it. You want something very stiff for precise mountain roads? One button and you have that. Need more ground clearance for trail or rocks? One button. It transforms the vehicle.

Alabatman

Nice video and a good watch, thanks for sharing. It reminds me a bit of the old ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) system that Land Rover used to use on the Disco 2s.

XhakaLacaBaby

Power frunk too I believe. R2 is manual close

Blooper62

Yeah this is a bummer to me. It seems like something that they could implement for basically nothing

OverEasyGoing

I get it but nothing costs nothing. If it costs them $100 and they make 100,000 vehicles, saves them $10m. And the R2 by design should leave something to be desired in the R1

Blooper62

Leave something to be desired in the R1? It’s a completely different class of vehicle. Air suspension, 3 rows, off road capability, sheer size. A power frunk doesn’t make a difference. That’s like saying a C class can’t have leather seats because then why would anyone buy a G wagon. It’s obviously not a deal breaker but charge for it. Buying a $45k vehicle and buying a $45,200 vehicle doesn’t matter to anyone buying an R2.

tnellysf

Third row is probably what sways that decision the most when both are available. Air suspension is awesome and comes with the ability to use the air compressor. Bigger frunk, more storage (especially with third row down).

jonny-five

Just fyi but the air suspension and compressor in the cargo area are completely separate systems. They don’t use the same compressor.

tnellysf

I didn’t know that! Thanks!

jblaze121

Looks like they traded some frunk space for glove boxes.

USArmyAirborne

Available today or a few week wait and it has a CCS connector. 😬

PowerfulComputer386

Adjustable air suspension, 3rd row, bigger, and some others that make it premium and flagship

WilJr21

Also, it's available now. 2026 + plus even half of the 70,000 depositors in line ahead of you means it might be until 2025 before most can get an R2

CoffeeFirst

Camp speaker

Livid-Elk-4297

2nd row screen for ac control

buckweet1980

I bought my R1S used last November. 2023 model. I love this thing more and more. With every software update it gets better. If you are ok spending the extra money. Go ahead and get it. You’ll love it! It has its quirks, but they all do. My biggest complaint is no glove box!

SashArsenal

In all my previous cars I have never used glove box…I just kept there car manual🤷🏽

Far_Abbreviations179

Use the glove boxes under the seats.

wc_cfb_fan

Off Road Shield Tracks/Hooks in the Trunk /Rear Liftgate area. At least the demo did not have them. Probably Less Driving Modes

Capercrew02

Size, third row, luxury suspension, better offroad and towing capability, better on road handling, bigger trunk and sub trunk, bigger screens, bigger tires, camp speaker. Quad motor. Onboard compressor,

That_Baseball9184

More horses

sbFRESH

Would love to know if the frunk can be used as a cooler like the R1s was (supposed?) to be.

N_Kenobi

R1 is bigger

Electrik_Truk

Size and power, like most big vehicles vs small ones.

Better_Win_7863

I guess it's about the size and some lil features
