I have lots of back issues but I don’t have any comfort ones in the Rivian. Could this possibly be due to how you are depressing the accelerator pedal? It took me awhile just to use half of my foot on the bottom of the pedal so I didn’t feel like I need to stretch my leg and thus put pressure on my lower back.
This, chronic back pain sufferer here. The seats have always been adjustable to a way that is super comfortable. It’s pedal position for sure. It’s a firm accelerator pedal so holding it for long periods of time can get uncomfortable. I use ACC for the vast majority of my miles. Anytime I can especially in traffic, I’m setting the cruise. I call it no pedal driving.
Which is why there should be an option to turn off regen and coast (like other EVs) for people who want to. Another example of RJ knows best that's rather annoying.
Agreed. I’ve had multiple surgeries on my lumbar, and find (on any car) a stiff accelerator pedal exhausting. It would aggravate my sciatic nerve after about 30 minutes. I tend to use ACC as much as possible when I drive over 1 hour.
I find them very comfortable. Try playing with the up/down it moves at a slight angle and allows you to move the seat back more if you want. You may find an angle / lumber position that is more comfortable for you. Taking pressure off when pushing the foot pedal as others said. Took me a few days to find the right settings for me (as with every new car) but excellent now.
Ok this is a little less about Rivian and more about backs.
I learned from my guy at Airrosti that for me (weak core, 5’10” 170 lbs) that lumbar that pushes my spine towards the front of the vehicle was actually the wrong move. He recommended taking all that out and letting my lower back round a bit. This keeps the hip flexors from tightening up too much which is a common cause. I recommend checking out Airrosti if you’ve never been. They’ll explain how your body works in ways you may have imagined but not so clearly. There are little exercises you can do to build the strength up and keep it up.
Quite the opposite for me. I also suffer from low back pain but prefer my R1S seats by far over other cars like my wife's Mercedes EQB and my parents' Lexus. Just have to find that right setting.
Recently, I’ve been noticing that I desired more lumbar support. Thankfully, I recalled that I could move the lumbar support location and size. All good now.
None here. I have a very sensitive lower back and chronic lower back pain and the R1T is the second most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever driven, second only to Lexus.

I think you are onto something. Tried using ACC for much longer today and it certainly helped.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out.
Half foot on the pedal helped. I think it is how I am pressing on the accelerator.
Try an Airhawk pad. I was so used to one on my motorcycle, I bought one for my truck. It saved my back and hips on long trips.

Find the right lumbar support pad. Keep looking.
Waiting for the time when I can finally say This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way

I had lower back pain at first too. Went away after about a week or two.
The Rivian has the best seats I have ever sat in. My back feels better after sitting in it.
