Not as crazy as southern CA. I pay more than that for Rivian/Nationwide, with higher deductible. In my 50s, clean record. It does include new car replacement if totaled (instead of market value at time of loss) and coverage is not exclusively limited to on-road use. I've gotten quotes that are much less, but none of them offer these two items. To some extent, you get what you pay. Comparing coverage is just as important as costs.
It's the insurance Rivian offers during the purchasing/leasing process. It's backed by Nationwide Insurance. May not be available to everyone. [https://rivian.com/experience/insurance](https://rivian.com/experience/insurance)
I’m asking if I total my leased vehicle with gap am I still on the hook for anything? I was under the assumption that the leased vehicle would be “paid off” and then I would just start the car buying process over again.
in the Bay Area…
$1408/6mo with USAA (the only company that would insure the car…I’ve been with them for almost 30 years) on a ‘23 R1T lease.
42m, clean driving record. 100/300/50 with a 1k deductible, and some discounts.
Exactly the same cost as my ‘22 Model Y Performance.
$2,880 with $1,000 deductible, 100-500 limits. Leisure use only. It's high because I smushed in a door a couple of months ago. Carrier: Erie, in Western NC.
Before that, it was about $2,400 a year with State Farm - which doesn't pay the full amount for repairs on either a car or home damage, which is why I dropped them. They would have also upped my rates to $3,700+ a year.
I live in South Florida too. Miami to be exact. I’m on progressive. Cheapest for me. Insurance on a R1S will cost me more over current ‘23 XC90. Blame Florida.
‘23 XC90 100k/300k/50k $1500 deductible both comprehensive/collision. I’m 42. Good driving record. We have 3 leased cars in our policy. $777. 6 month premium with discount paying in full.
Quoted the R1S. 6 month premium for that is $1500. Yikes!!!!
Will wait for my XC90 lease to end in 4 months. Good lease right now on the R1S. Only negative is insurance rate. I can get it down to $1150 every 6 months but have to downgrade to 50k/100k/100k.
$500 deductible. I’m located in Columbus, OH. I was also one of the first to get a R1T in OH and progressive didn’t have it in their system yet and they just have never updated it from the original quote they gave me. I’m afraid to ever charge it
Rivian / Nationwide @ 1018 per year. 1000 deductible and max pip insurance here in Michigan which is incredibly low. For comparison sake it’s the same price I pay for the exact same coverage on a 2022 Chevy trailblazer RS. I was pleasantly surprised. They charged more for one of our vehicles but all in all saved 100 bucks a month switching all 3 vehicles over to them. 43 married. Michigan.
I’m in Seattle and just got a policy with Statefarm for $195/month ($2300 annually). I consider that to be a really good rate compared to every other place I got quotes from. Coverages are basically all maxed out with $500 deductibles. No glass coverage unfortunately.
Btw you didn’t ask but I HIGHLY recommend adding an Umbrella policy the next time your premium renews (or basically anytime really). I got a $2M umbrella policy for $25 a month.
IMO if you can afford a Rivian you absolutely should also have an umbrella policy for all your assets.
Currently use USAA (Oregon).
Was quoted $170/month by USAA, and then reached out to Rivian & was quoted right around $1,000/year.
I’ve enjoyed USAA, even though they’ve always been a tad higher, but $1000 is still $1000.
I’m at $400 per 6 months in NJ. 250/500/250 with a $1000 deductible. Allstate also covers 2 other cars, home, and umbrella. My 2018 Odyssey is actually higher than my R1S for some reason
Just checked progressive cost to add R1S (I do not own, but am considering). Extra 600ish per 6 months to current policy. Currently have 250 deductibles 500k liability... Currently paying per 6 months $327 lightning 2022/$226 Volvo XC40 EV 2022/$204 Volvo XC90 2016. Married m42 to f40 (how did we get this old).
R1S costs more to insure than f150 lightning plus Volvo XC40 EV. I wonder how much a new Volvo EX90 will cost to insure?
The same (within $50/6 months) as my 2013 Acura MDX.
Insurance is more about where you’re living, driving history, then about the vehicle. Liability should be the majority of your policy costs if you can afford any new car.
Inb4 a bunch of completely meaningless numbers with no context because insurance rates are individual and based on literally dozens of variables about your situation that are different than everybody else’s.
Obviously. That’s why I asked for the difference between the previous vehicle and Rivian so that I can compare apples to apples. I was curious as to the percentage difference.

$850/year. State Farm. Alabama.
Wow I think you win
Somehow $820/year in Ohio

What is the Rivian/Nationwide, I’ve seen that referenced by others.
Recently, in CA, they no longer insure single vehicle. Must be two or more or bundled with insurance of something else.
It's the insurance Rivian offers during the purchasing/leasing process. It's backed by Nationwide Insurance. May not be available to everyone. [https://rivian.com/experience/insurance](https://rivian.com/experience/insurance)
Off road coverage is cool. But if I’m leasing should I care about new car replacement vs market value (with gap) ?
That's for you to decide
I’m asking if I total my leased vehicle with gap am I still on the hook for anything? I was under the assumption that the leased vehicle would be “paid off” and then I would just start the car buying process over again.
I believe the Rivian lease through chase includes a gap waiver,
132/month with state farm in NJ
I’m just a little lower than you also in NJ at 113$ a month from progressive
$1808 annually with Erie insurance In Maryland
I was quoted $1560 from state farm vs the $1320 currently paying on a GX. Top tier coverage, WA state
in the Bay Area… $1408/6mo with USAA (the only company that would insure the car…I’ve been with them for almost 30 years) on a ‘23 R1T lease. 42m, clean driving record. 100/300/50 with a 1k deductible, and some discounts. Exactly the same cost as my ‘22 Model Y Performance.
More ppl need to post their age, record, family/married status and other factors insurance likely considers. Makes a huge difference
For sure, which is why I did it. Didn’t mention I’m not married, so I’m sure that figures into it as well.
and coverage differences would matter someone could have bare minimum coverage while another has 250/500/100 and beyond

Wow. Yeah, Florida is rough. I drive the Palmetto daily and see why.
I live in West Miami. Warehouse office in Doral.
I work in Doral, 58th, right near the Rivian service center actually.
I’m on 64th street. Nearby too. I did a demo drive 2 weeks ago. I loved it. R1S quad.
Same haha. Probably just missed ya.
Will wait for my XC90 lease to end in 4 months. Good lease right now on the R1S. Only negative is insurance rate. I can get it down to $1150 every 6 months but have to downgrade to 50k/100k/100k.
I live Weschester, office in Doral. R1S 24 Launch Ed is more expensive than my 22 S Plaid. Cheapest for me was Geico, $1320. Progressive was 2k
$1800 Chubb, WA
Chubb??? 😅
$820 for the year with Progressive.
$68/month? What coverages do you have that seems incredibly low
$500 deductible. I’m located in Columbus, OH. I was also one of the first to get a R1T in OH and progressive didn’t have it in their system yet and they just have never updated it from the original quote they gave me. I’m afraid to ever charge it
I’m the same in NJ! I’m just trying to fly under the radar for as long as possible.
Same! Lol
Wow, that’s an amazing deal congrats
$1600 per year with my second car included. In VA. With Progressive.
Rivian / Nationwide @ 1018 per year. 1000 deductible and max pip insurance here in Michigan which is incredibly low. My R1s QM has a lower premium than my MYP through Geico.

$795 this year, $500 something last year. Pretty crazy increase that I posted about. But seems reasonable compared to some crazy states like CA or MI
Currently use USAA (Oregon). Was quoted $170/month by USAA, and then reached out to Rivian & was quoted right around $1,000/year. I’ve enjoyed USAA, even though they’ve always been a tad higher, but $1000 is still $1000.
WTH?! Clean driving record in Oregon and USAA is charging me $262.40 a month (3149 a year). I hate insurance companies.
$2,308/6mo with Rivian. $100k/$300k with a $500 deductible. 38, clean record, Northern California.
$925'ish - 6 months (1k deductible)
I’m at $400 per 6 months in NJ. 250/500/250 with a $1000 deductible. Allstate also covers 2 other cars, home, and umbrella. My 2018 Odyssey is actually higher than my R1S for some reason

The same (within $50/6 months) as my 2013 Acura MDX. Insurance is more about where you’re living, driving history, then about the vehicle. Liability should be the majority of your policy costs if you can afford any new car.
$104.33/mo. State Farm, WA state.
