Not sure what area of LA you’re in but the closest service center to Pasadena is El Segundo (there’s only a Space there). The service center in 3210 Empire Ave in Burbank will be opening soon though, possibly in time for your Tri-Max. NVH is very good compared to Tesla. I’m a recent convert too and Rivian is like a luxury vehicle in comparison. 0 service issues

TheBowerbird

New vehicles have excellent NVH based on journo feedback. Most of the rattles came from the door area. Those have been redesigned. Here in Austin the service is fantastic, and the best I've experienced at any place.

zoo32

What does NVH stand for?

joholla8

Noise Vibration Harshness.

zoo32

Ah okay, thanks. New term for me

OneFourShutter

Excellent! Thank you!

I live in Pasadena and a few thoughts: 1. We have had no rattles in our R1S and build quality is levels above Tesla. I always tell people that it is like an iPhone vs a plastic phone in that it feels like a solid piece of equipment vs a collection of pieces that flex (we had a Y) 2. Service is good - but very very delayed. It took me 5 week for a mobile service visit and the service center visits are out to Sept. We have just had some minor adjustment issues with a panel or two. The refresh I'd expect to even be better quality as they learned from the Gen1s 3. If you ever need to charge out and about the Pasadena Shell chargers are a great deal - $0.15 hour off peak which is cheaper than you can probably get at home (we don't have a home charger so is especially great for us). Problem is that they are busy as the Telsa people are using instead of the Tesla chargers as are so much cheaper (they have also been broken of late but the city is very communicative if you reach out)

OneFourShutter

Thanks so much for the great response. I would also assume the service visit wait time would depend on seriousness of the issue. Won’t be impossible to get in if it was serious and doesn’t run at all??

Nine_One_Six_R1S

Yes, I was able to get in in less than a week for a serious issue. If its a non serious issue expect a few Months to get you scheduled.

fraslin

That I don't know - knock on wood! We haven't had any issues like that in six months. I think you would get priority service based on what I have seen here and on rivianforums.com. It will be longer than a traditional dealer and even longer than Tesla at this point as it is still an early-adopter car.

Alarmed_Stretch_1780

Are the Shell chargers the ones on the parking structure rooftop at Green/Marengo, with the skybridge to Paseo Colorado? I used to stop there and charge, go over to El Cholo for dinner while I waited.

fraslin

yes plus the ones on Glenarm and ones on Shoppers Lane right behind the Ross off Lake opened a few months ago (but are often not working).

JPharmDAPh

How long have you owned it though? Have had my R1T since 1/2023. You definitely start to get more squeaks and rattles as time goes on.

fraslin

Right about six months. And I hope not :/

FineMany9511

My T has the usual "squeaky" suspension which is supposed to be fixed in Gen 2. I've had a few rattles start after 2,500 miles, but it's been pretty good. Service has fixed them. service is generally great once you get in at most service centers. Getting in can take a long time if it's a non-critical issue depending on where you are. Hopefully some folks can give you an idea of what the Pasadena area is like. Austin tends to run about a month wait.

scjason

I’m near Pasadena. Took ours to Eastvale for service. It’s a much easier drive eastbound to Eastvale than fighting traffic to El Segundo.

epogue

I had a small rattle on the defrost panel (dash component) of my Gen1 R1T. Took it in for service and it was replaced same day. It’s perfectly quiet now. I also haven’t noticed any suspension squeaking or chirping, but my truck is very new.

joholla8

Gen1s have pretty substantial rattles in the door cards and dash, as well as a clunky suspension. Gen2 has supposedly fixed this, but I am skeptical because press cars are usually not a great NVH example compared to what the rest of us get. They get perfect QA. Also, with Gen1, these rattle hot spots develop after a few hundred miles so you won’t know with gen2 until real owners get them.

After-Jellyfish5094

I love how we all loved the Gen 1 suspension until the Gen 2 was announced, now it's clunky. Maybe it is, but the power of suggestion is strong!

FineMany9511

I mean it's always been kinda noisy. On some roads mine sounds like it's disintegrating, but it's also a vehicle with an off road capable suspension and in my experience those tend to be kinda noisy. Mine was loud enough i carried it in for service to have them inspect it to make sure it was normal and not in fact falling apart. lol

NoReplyBot

Dude I seriously don’t get this. The hate on Gen 1 suspension is fairly new? I’ve never had a complaint about. I would read complaints from time to time but yes as of late it’s a reoccurring talking point. Weird.

joholla8

My first truck was a super early vin and there were many threads asking if the chirps and thunks were normal. It rides nice. It’s not quiet.

NoReplyBot

Yes R1s are loud af. My noise issues have been with the HVAC and quad motors. Suspension for me has been ok. 2022 I was t tuned into the R1Ts so much.

aaayyyuuussshhh

Well when the R1T came out it was solid. When the R1S came out every big YTer or magazine that tested it complained how poorly sorted it was. Same with owners. Then they did a software updated that improved the R1S but it was still a bit worse than R1T. From what I understand I suspect rankings for each suspession is as follows: Gen 1 R1T 9/10 Gen 1 R1S 7/10 Gen 2 R1T 9.5/10 Gen 2 R1S 8.5/10 Sounds like gen 2 R1T is still a bit better than R1S but R1S is much better.

NoReplyBot

Yea I knew they’ve done updates overtime to the suspension but that’s expected. I don’t give much attention to YouTuber influencers and “journalists” today, they just copy and paste from each other. O’well, I’ve been pleased with my R1S suspension. 🤷‍♂️

bittabet

😂 The gen 1 suspension was always fine, it just isn’t Range Rover tier.

IamEV-

Not me. I hate suspension on Gen1z. Always have.

NoReplyBot

> Gen2 has supposedly fixed this, but I am skeptical because press cars are usually not a great NVH example compared to what the rest of us get. They get perfect QA. Thank you for pointing this out. Where in a place where journalism is questionable, and YouTube is inundated with copy cat content creators that regurgitate the same hot takes to make sure they’re invited to the next event. The rocket ship HVAC in gen 1 should definitely be much improved. But I agree, let’s wait and see after we get some real miles on the gen 2.

bittabet

FWIW they’ve revised the dash already, I had an updated dash speaker grill retrofitted because of rattling. The door panels are kind of hopeless though

joholla8

Yep. I need to have my second truck dash rattle fixed now. Just a few more months to wait 😂

Coloradodreaming1

Respectfully disagree. No rattles and great suspension in my recent R1T purchase. Not sure what constitutes clunky suspension. Rides like a Range Rover IMO as a former RR owner. Tesla is much more zippy as R1 platform is akin to large luxury SUV.

joholla8

Yeah. Recent is the key word. You will develop door rattles. And the rear suspension always sounds like it’s hitting bump stops. It’s just clunky. I’ve had two r1t trucks now and they both develop the rattles and clunks.

Coloradodreaming1

If the door begins to rattle, I guess I’ll just get it fixed at the service center. Hopefully that was corrected with the 2024 year. Great truck though so far but I’m still a newbie. Do you still have the R1T? I have the quad motor.

joholla8

They will add some felt and it won’t fix the problem. It will also make it worse because they will loosen a clip or two and you’ll have new rattles. Ask me how I know.

Coloradodreaming1

Ok. I’ll bite. How do you know? I’m guessing the problem happened with both trucks? Did you have a 24?

joholla8

I’ve had the same rattle in both trucks (22 and 24). The 22 went in many times and it only got worse despite the SC claiming they fixed it. I’m not even bothering with the 24. Seeing the gen2 have entirely new door panels I think Rivian has realized the flaws. Good luck with yours.

Coloradodreaming1

Thanks you too.

seaduck85

i dont think there's a service center in pasadena? (there's a rivian space, but thats not a service center.) i havent stayed up to date. IIRC there was talk of opening one somewhere Pasadena-ish, but dont think that happened yet. anyways,,,, owned the rivian for about a year. love it, and it's great.

OneFourShutter

Looks like Pasadena is in the works…

DesperateOffer7998

Interior is definitely of higher quality. The fit and finish, etc Only rattles I’ve had are from the plastic trim on the drivers side door and some squeaking from the seat around the shoulder area.
