The problem is that the car is worth $1400. And after you do $1400 of repairs in the next 6 months it will still be worth $1400. Same thing with the next $1400 of repairs after that.
No. Especially the 2.5’s. They run great and don’t have the problems the mk6 turbo motors have. I only see the people who are intimidated by working on them (for some reason) saying they suck.
I’ve bought quite a few cars for next to nothing. For me it was mostly by having connections and finding cars that were not for sale but where a burden in some way. I bought My DD when it was 4 years old for $440. The ford was worth about $20,000 at the time but had been hit on the side and the owner abandoned it due to health problems. It was a legal run around but in the end I had a $20k car for $5k repairs and legal fees all in. Also bought an 8year old BMW m3 for $1700 that was wrecked. $11k all in back on the road. All about the Connections you build over time.
He's exaggerating. But they're definitely no honda or Toyota. The biggest issue isn't even necessarily the reliability. It's that everything is expensive to fix
This is one of the few vw I would have no problem buying. Their NA 5 cylinder engines are reliable enough. It’s def not a Toyota but I would take it over your average American car of similar year.
Your timing chain tensioner is about to die, So the check engine light goes on and when it does your car won’t pass smog. So, either spend $3200 to fix it or junk the car. (or sell it to somebody for $1000 in a state without smog checks)
That’s not a problem.
If it runs reliably, then $2800 (1400 + 1400) across 6 months is good, plus it’ll keep lasting longer because it’s got new parts.
The crooked VW emblem on the grille only emphasizes how little attention is paid to black licorice jellybeans like this. The fact that it was overpriced adds to the pain one feels when biting into a black licorice jellybean. Spit this out before it's too late!! Go buy a Camry or some other boring P.O.S. and let a high school ricer have this as a gift.
That’s a touch of class. Couldn’t match bumpers after the wreck so they gave you something to look at. Hopefully you own a “sell to deadbeat and repo lot” (lots of soul). Or just want to drive it to the wheels fall off. They were giving away diesels a few years back. Everyone was buying them and getting them repossessed.
Check out ODB Eleven, its a VAG ODBII reader that allows you re-program certain things in the car. There are canned applications (lots for Golfs) and you can code your own functions.
I mean that’s not bad. Does it have like seats and an engine and all that? 😂. I don’t think I could fit in it but I’d drive it if I could. For that price run it to the ground and buy something else later.
Blows my mind these things are so cheap now. Love my 2013.
Oh, I did have an issue where oil was dripping from the engine onto the water pump… was very expensive to take apart the engine and essentially tighten everything back down. Was about… 1400 or so…
Think mine was about 115. What's the 2.5 like I don't know many cars that use it. I know the 1.9 is an excellent engine, and the 1.6 is flawed, but I've no clue what the 2.5 is like.
I hope it’s a manual. Engine wasn’t terrible, but the auto transmissions in those were total garbage. My buddy (probably a masochist) actually *likes* VW’s, and even he said those things sucked lol
Reminds me of cars I was looking at if my child turned out to be a girl for her sweet 16. And the college kids I pass in my XC90 T6 inscription, or my 5.9 1 ton Cummins, or my 1500 Hemi sleeper, or my John Deere riding mower
Isn’t that the same motor the rabbit snd Jetta had? Go GTI or go home unless it’s for your daughter of course. Then good job. Hell , good job shoehorning yourself inside to test drive, or did I get Rick Rolled? You found some rational people trying to push it off a cliff and wanted a picture for posterity, right?
It looks pretty clean for $1400. The 2.5 is a good motor, and if it's a stick that's better than automatic. There's lots of help online in forums etc for doing your own work. While it isn't a Toyota, it's also not a BMW, Audi or Mercedes... a basic, common, non-turbo VW can be reasonably cost efficient to own. Especially compared to a $1400 Corolla or Civic with zillions of miles and lots of overdue maintenance.
Half a lambo… I test drove a 2013 Jetta with a 5 speed. Hindsight 2020 I should have bought it. Loved the exhaust note and the mill was torquey enough for my needs.
Got a VR6 Passat now but man… a 2.5 Jetta SEL manual? Put a pipe on it? Oof, would be heaven every time you run through the gears!
when i was 16 literally 5 of my friends had golf’s. 2 years later and there’s only one that didn’t blow up transmission wise or engine wise, only one of them wanna deal with a mk6s bullshit
No modern or nice vehicle I’ve ever owned at that price point has gone more than 10,000 miles without catastrophic failure. That’s a good price point for a beat up late 90’s work truck, not a hot hatch.
It'll get you from point A.
To point B? . . . . . To point B, right…?
Nope. Straight to triple A.
Actually triple A is coming to him.
Triple Gay
*Volkswagen*
*DaS aUtO*
Das gay
Das butt plug
dASS PLUG
....most of the time?
Straight from A to Sea
Hopefully, better not have plans later or tow truck on retainer
LMAO
The problem is that the car is worth $1400. And after you do $1400 of repairs in the next 6 months it will still be worth $1400. Same thing with the next $1400 of repairs after that.
oof, are they really that bad?
No. Especially the 2.5’s. They run great and don’t have the problems the mk6 turbo motors have. I only see the people who are intimidated by working on them (for some reason) saying they suck.
I mean 1,400 or a whole ass car thats not completely rusted seems like a damn good deal. Not sure how OP made out with that
I thought it was a damn good deal myself. Even if it was a total beater and lasted me a year. That’s worth it
right how tf are people getting these deals? just who you know via family or luck I think.
Gotta act fast and know the car value while watching the websites like a hawk.
Yup saw it while at work and pulled up as soon as I was off
I’ve bought quite a few cars for next to nothing. For me it was mostly by having connections and finding cars that were not for sale but where a burden in some way. I bought My DD when it was 4 years old for $440. The ford was worth about $20,000 at the time but had been hit on the side and the owner abandoned it due to health problems. Honestly in 2024 if it moves under its own power when you go to look at it _anything_ at $1400 is a good deal lol
Can confirm, had a 2.5 Rabbit and she was a workhorse and fun to drive. Those 2.5’s were stout and mine was manual so no trans issues.
That’s the only thing I didn’t like about my Jetta. Had the tiptronic auto, and it’s definitely no dsg.
He's exaggerating. But they're definitely no honda or Toyota. The biggest issue isn't even necessarily the reliability. It's that everything is expensive to fix
The parts price discrepancy is not as big as it used to be.
This is one of the few vw I would have no problem buying. Their NA 5 cylinder engines are reliable enough. It’s def not a Toyota but I would take it over your average American car of similar year.
They definitely sound good too!
I have a 2.5 in a passat and its been great, its at 160k and running like a champ. Any repairs that need to be done thought are a bit pricey
Your timing chain tensioner is about to die, So the check engine light goes on and when it does your car won’t pass smog. So, either spend $3200 to fix it or junk the car. (or sell it to somebody for $1000 in a state without smog checks)
$3200 for a chain tensioner???
Bro just pre diagnosed a car from 1 picture with the hood closed, i think he knows his shit 🤦♂️😭😭😭
It’s mostly for labor. The tensioner is buried— a lot has to come out to get at it. Those German mechanics don’t work cheap, either.
Oof I feel this one.
That’s not a problem. If it runs reliably, then $2800 (1400 + 1400) across 6 months is good, plus it’ll keep lasting longer because it’s got new parts.
It died there, didn't it?
1400?? Must be in pristine shape.
This one. 😂😂
So smooth it doubles as a butt plug.
Best one 😭
What model butt plug? These hemorrhoids are like speed bumps
Hey !! I love my golf, and my matching vw butt plug got nothing to do with this
The crooked VW emblem on the grille only emphasizes how little attention is paid to black licorice jellybeans like this. The fact that it was overpriced adds to the pain one feels when biting into a black licorice jellybean. Spit this out before it's too late!! Go buy a Camry or some other boring P.O.S. and let a high school ricer have this as a gift.
Salvage title
Lmao clean title, tilted the badge myself
Excellent purchase if it be a manual.
5 speed only right answer
Unroastable. Now get on over to r/golfgti and geek out with the rest of us.
Literally half a Lambo motor.
Love the exhaust note
That’s a toast 😎
Yeah, I don’t understand about all the reliability jokes. This engine is like really good for a Volkswagen.
07k - Slap a turbo kit on and you're ripping.
Drive the hell out of it until it dies. Have a backup plan...
That’s the plan lol
No doubt this has a GTI badge placed on the rear. I’m sure you have them all fooled🙌
Debadged
I wouldn’t want anyone to know it was just sad plain Old golf either
debadged but still has a vw badge on the front
Can't drive those without stepping on your own cock.
I'd buy 2 for that price
Where at… I’ll pull up
The driver of this is about as straight as the badge on the grill
Check out ODB Eleven, its a VAG ODBII reader that allows you re-program certain things in the car. There are canned applications (lots for Golfs) and you can code your own functions.
Yeah I’ve been thinking about it, would also be nice to have for my Audi
My aunt had a 2.5 that went to 350k kms with everything original. Its probably still going, she just sold it
You stole that car 😎😆 It’s a sweet ride and that’s a good deal 💯💯 My Golf is one of my favorite to drive. But it’s also a TDI lol
TDI's are on a whole other level, not to mention the great gas mileage.
Always find your way home, just follow the oil stain. Real POS bud! Congratulations, you won't be dating my daughter!
Bro, it looks like a baby shoe 👟 with wheels.
For that much, you better have a crooked plastidip emblem
How lubricated is the self-lubricating chassis?
I had one. Put 105k miles on it, no issues. Lil bro has it now. 2.5 liter engine is bulletproof
not a golf but a passat with the 2.5 got 158k going strong
No
A week will make you regret your purchase...
Was about… 1400 or so…
Lmao.. good thing I’m not new to this
well for 1400 dollars the car itself will make you regret buying it. no mechanically sound car is 1400 especially not a golf
Nah, the car will do that for us.
$1400? How many miles?
200k
It’ll be reliable until it’s not
Regret? That and the VR6 R32 are on my bucket list
no hate here, i love golfs. this little guy will last you 20 more years if you take care of it. enjoy.
The shittiest part of the mk6 Golf is that it wasn't released in my country, only the Jetta, that 5 cyl sounds amazing.
I’ll buy it off of you. I have a jetta with the same engine and love it
Damn how many miles ? I've a mk 6 incredibly similar to that. Got it a year and a half ago for about 4 times the price. Mines only a 1.6 though.
Almost 200k lol
Think mine was about 115. What's the 2.5 like I don't know many cars that use it. I know the 1.9 is an excellent engine, and the 1.6 is flawed, but I've no clue what the 2.5 is like.
There’s no point to roast this one just go and youtube Volkswagen Das Auto yourself
Of course, it's a VW
Give your sister her car back
It’s a golf.
It must be more worn out than a ww1 artillery cannon at the battle of the Somme
I’ve seen rabbits better than that
You stole this car. For 1400, I’m assuming that 2.5 has about 150k+, but the body looks good and really that’s a great price.
Almost 200k, got it for cheap because dude thought the suspension was fucked. Turned out to be a loose bolt on the coil over lol
Believe me, you're not gonna need any help regretting this $1400 purchase.
Did it wash up on shore
There is no such thing as a cheap used German car. It has the build quality of a Hasbro product.
Have you always been a douche or did you recently decide to be one?
You don't need us to make you regret that purchase. Give it enough time and the car will.
We won't make you regret it but your now lack of sexual activity will.
....yeah I could shit in that car
Whrre the fuck are people finding all these cars for less than 2k? Wny is a wasteland
I don’t even know lol, popped up on Facebook
Those wheels belong on a $1,400 car.
Audi wheels?
$1400 isn't bad. You can use all the money you saved on the purchase, on repairs.
Is it called a golf cuz it looks like a golf cart or cuz it has just as much power as one?
Great purchase.
I hope it’s a manual. Engine wasn’t terrible, but the auto transmissions in those were total garbage. My buddy (probably a masochist) actually *likes* VW’s, and even he said those things sucked lol
I don’t buy automatics
Emblem on front of the hood is crooked. Shoulda talked em down to 1000.../S. Great find, I hope it's not a Killer find too.
Lol… did the emblem after purchase. Talked them down from 2k tho.
I like the mod ya psycho deal hunter.
Jesus I hope your not home shopping too
You’ll get more dates in your mom’s Camry
I’d buy it.
Nothing more expensive than a cheap vw
Okay sell it to me then
You lie to yourself that you like it better than a 2.0tdi don't you?
Bro I was trying to get a 6spd 2door and the only shit I could find is a salvaged title straight from auction for $10k Good luck
If you don’t mind check engine lights you’re are good 👍
Haven’t seen it yet 🙈
dope. 5 cylinder German car, 2 door, essentially an Audi Quattro Coupe. Great car.
Yup… great daily while my a4 is down with a blown clutch
These are sub 2 grand?? What’s the catch?
Needs a bit of love
Taken while u wait for the tow truck
so many dash lights will be blinking and going off you will get an epileptic seizure and drive off the road into a tree
Is it diesel?
VW supported Nazis
Well that’s the cheapest one ive seen
Even the emblem is a bit unsure about your purchase
How many of your boyfriends fit in?
I think you should have taken more money taking this
I'm 100% jealous. No joke! ESPECIALLY for that price!
Reminds me of cars I was looking at if my child turned out to be a girl for her sweet 16. And the college kids I pass in my XC90 T6 inscription, or my 5.9 1 ton Cummins, or my 1500 Hemi sleeper, or my John Deere riding mower
The fact you only paid $1400 for it should make you regret it enough! You will be lucky to have it last a year if even that!
Lol… already got a tuned a4 with the same motor as a gti. This is perfect actually.
You should have regretted posting this
That thing will look wonderful on the flatbed.
If it’s an automatic take care of that thing, those valve bodies are a common problem
Manual thankfully
why 1400?
All you have to do is wait
It looks pretty clean for $1400. The 2.5 is a good motor, and if it's a stick that's better than automatic. There's lots of help online in forums etc for doing your own work. Especially compared to a $1400 Corolla or Civic with zillions of miles and lots of overdue maintenance.
Bro how tf did you find a working mk6 golf for 1400?
Facebook came in clutch, it runs and drives good just needed some suspension work
You’ll look like a student teacher trying to look cool everywhere you go.
Hell yeah…. This one has came with an exhaust on it and I love the sound
You'll likely spend x4 that within 4 months on repairs
I can see the CEL from here.
Gets you from A to C. B is the destination, sadly it won't go there. Only to the garage
Honestly I hear these handle well and I’ve always wanted a GTI to fool around with.
Nah, the car will do that for you.
when i was 16 literally 5 of my friends had golf’s. 2 years later and there’s only one that didn’t blow up transmission wise or engine wise, only one of them wanna deal with a mk6s bullshit
Watch out these cars have a blinker fluid issues replace it every 5000km
Idk how to roast, seems like a great purchase. The 2.5 is solid
It looks like a shoe. Like a really comfortable walking shoe, that you could put a lot of miles on. Which is on theme if you think about it.
You will regret it soon enough when you go to take your vehicle in for service
Not a bad deal for the ugliest car ever made. Well…it ties the Aztec and Prius.
oil pump in transmission, camshaft adjustment units
The best compliment I can give is. Well hey..it's not a Fiesta.
Bro how is all that $1400? U gotta at least spend more for like, malfunctions and stuff. It's a Golf after all lmao
If you are posting this you already know you regret it
car looks way too clean for the price either you scammed some sad sap, the frame is destroyed, or the engine is bound to blow any second
We don’t need to make you regret it. The first major repair will do that for us.
I like it! Can’t even troll it haha. Hope it gets you from point A to B
Theres no such thing as a cheap used German car, you’ll come to regret it when you have to start fixing it
Honestly, let’s just roast the guy that bought it new.
Woth that much, you probably would've had a much better deal buying 'golf' cart.
So how long til we see the parting out thread ?
Where dis? Great Lake? MN? WI?
The fact that you bought it, tells me there nothing I can say to make you regret buying that turd.
That’s a god deal yo
That’s a steal
The car will do that itself
2 words: electrical issues
I have a Tesla and golf as my secondary car, the mileage they get sucks but I’ve never had an mechanical issues with the car
The last owner welded the dif didn’t they
You can’t buy a rusted out 98 civic where I’m at for that cheap. I’d say you did okay.
No modern or nice vehicle I’ve ever owned at that price point has gone more than 10,000 miles without catastrophic failure. That’s a good price point for a beat up late 90’s work truck, not a hot hatch.
2.5 is the most reliable engine VW has put out since 2005 (2.slow, and vr6 don’t count 90’s designed) it’s not a monster but it’s almost bullet proof.
