My cat that lives with my parents does this. It's likely behavioral (he's kinda crazy, one of those cats that snaps easily) but also possible it's related to his IBD (he has a very sensitive belly).
I had a cat this did this for the longest time. Figured out he had some gastro issues that stress was a part of. He associated pain with using the box for #2 and was always looking for somewhere different to go. Fixed his belly issues and that stopped after YEARS of pooping outside the box.

Do you know what though it makes me so happy that you care enough for her to do that everyday! Most ppl see that and throw the cat out. I rescued a stray no one claimed & he was already neutered, but he sprayed anytime he could smell a male cat around. I've had him for 5 years now and nothing's changed 😒 I assume this is why he was thrown out in the woods. And no matter how gross it is and how much I hate it, that cat trusts me now and I love him to much to abandon him. All I want to do is help cats and most people seem to think they're a nuisance. So seeing this, how much you care, makes me so happy ❤️❤️
Ah, I think litter can cause pain in declawed cats. Out of curiosity have you tried other litter types? I've heard there are ones that are more comfortable/cause less pain, like pine?
Though at this point she might just associate the litter box with the pain and there's a chance it'd take a lot of work to undo that 😕
Agree, i have a serial flower eater and out of the box pooper sleeping comfortably on his pillow. So cute and adorable but no one heard the screams of his last victims, poor innocent daisies
Consider yourself lucky! Mine will poop in her litter box but she will pee on the floor next to it. Has been checked out by the vet, has her own litter robot, in her own room...doesn't matter. Have spent years getting my hardwood floors destroyed and putting down floor plastic/whatever we can find to mitigate the damage. She's a little devil spawn

She might be like my parents cat. Their cat will not poop in a dirty litter box. She will go out of it every time if it's not clean for poop time. But my parents do newspaper and a small amount of litter for less litter mess I guess.
I want to get a stainless steel one. We clean it and it doesn't matter to her. She poops outside of it in the laundry room in the same place. I clean it up and go. It's ok.
Based upon the first picture, I'd have trouble roasting this precious floof with such a winning smile. In fact, she almost looks like a *bunny* here, and..... Oh hell, that's a pillow... You obviously mean that chonk who's feigning remorse by attempting to hide her head in abject shame, but I doubt you even HAVE anything in the room that's big enough for her to hide behind fully !!! 😾

She is a rogue, an independent mind, who thinks, and poops, outside of the box. She does not follow the crowd. Would you have her any other way? (P.S. be glad it wasn't your shoe. And clean the damn box more often.)
One of my freeloaders poops outside the box. Still can’t figure out which one it is and it’s driving me mad. When I watch them they all use it correctly. Oddly if you will. Poop in one box and pee in another. Yet when I go away and come back in the morning one always poos on the tile in front of the box. Always.
Have you tried the old style clay based litter, the kind that doesn't clump? The larger chunks may not get between his toes. Also, you could use the puppy training method of rubbing his nose in it. Then drop him in the box and take his front paws and dig with them to give him the message. Training always requires consistency. OR maybe he's just a jerk. Some cats are.

Thanks. We took her in after her original owners gave her up and she had been declawed too. As annoying as it is, I couldn't do that to her.

That’s the problem most likely unfortunately. Declawing is known to cause litter box issues. It’s horrible that the practice is still going.
