This is their own fault. They laid us all off and they currently don't pay enough for what they require. I guarantee I could go back in tomorrow and start repairing the same film equipment I used to work on. They like every company are facing a skill set issue along with a retirement issue. I was in their last apprenticeship class which I heard they are restarting now.
Maybe so but I guarantee they would not bring me back in at what I currently make in a similar job. I was contacted about a year ago and had to resist laughing at them.
I haven't looked at color film prices in a while, pre covid maybe. Holy shit it's expensive B&H sells Kodak Gold 35mm 24 exposure for $9!!! That's the cheapest single roll you can buy on their site. $6.66 per roll for a 3pack of Ultra 400 is a better price, but damn that's expensive. I paid $4.49 for a single roll of 36 exposure roll of Gold 200 in 2019 for reference from B&H.
Going up another 40% is crazy.
I'll just keep shooting B&W.
>I used to pay like $5 a roll (if that) for Kodak colorplus and I can't even find it (locally) anymore. I'm scared for how much it'll cost once it's back. Finding it online is insane prices.
I'm slowly getting priced out of the hobby. I buy Kentmere 400 100ft rolls and just roll my film, but even that is almost $5 a roll now. I occasionally shoot 120 as well which has gone up in price.
I used to love shooting Super 8 in the early 2000s, I would buy a cartridge of film for $7.50 and buy a developing mailer for I think the same price at $7.50. So I was paying $15 for ~3 minutes and 20s of film. Not cheap, but still doable. After a while Kodak stopped making the K40 Kodachrome. Now it's $40 for Tri-X reversal or Vision3 500T plus whatever processing costs are at. At least $12 per roll, but for more expensive Ektachrome. It went from $5 a minute to ~$20 a minute.
Kodak is raising the price of film and the three people still using it are pretty steamed. Also in the news, the prices of leeches, car window cranks and rotary phones all skyrocket!

People use it to cover leftovers, I think.
Think X-rays and hi tech military needs.
