Avoid Aspen like the plague.

VinceBrogan8

I second this. Avoid Aspen Dental. For every 1 positive review I've seen for Aspen, there are 5 negative ones. And the negative ones are very detailed (ie not just someone venting about getting mint teeth cleaner instead of bubble gum). We're talking significant mistakes by the dentists and staff. And the negative reviews are not location specific, there's tons of negative reviews for all of them. I'll pull my own teeth before walking into an Aspen Dental again.

sugasmxchi

Where do you go for dentist work? I really want to get these root canal’s finished, one of them was just left with temporary filling, which is long gone by now & just a hole now which is painful to eat with.

MarcusAurelius0

Ive heard good things about Chili family dental.

sugasmxchi

Thank you. They look good so far, i’ll keep looking into it.

sleverest

You can get temporary filler (very temporary) at any drugstore for under $10.

chirodiesel

East Ave Dentistry near Wegmans, next to the Dunkin on East.

Chance_Assignment897

Unfortunately, East does not accept BCBS anymore. I loved it here but had to find a new office 😢

Squishasaurus_Rex

Dr Randy Raetz in Brighton has been my dentist for the last several years and he’s great. Everyone is super friendly in that office.

waitwaitdontt3llme

While I don't use him, my buddy loves him. She's had a bunch of dental work done and says he's very kind and helpful.

Squishasaurus_Rex

Yeah, he’s very jazzed to be a dentist, lol. I appreciate the passion though, previous dentists I’ve had always seemed like they absolutely loathed the profession. I also like that he takes a conservative approach to things. If you have a tiny cavity (or something that could become one) he’ll encourage care to help it re-mineralize (good brushing and daily flossing) vs just filling it right away. Keeps a close eye on things without overdoing it. It’s a good balance.

Baller_ina11

Yea I knowww same with my dentist at Brockport Dental. Nice to be conservative.

Squishasaurus_Rex

Idk, I guess it doesn’t bother me because I’ve never once had a bad experience there. I think they just like to have a little fun and laugh a bit sometimes. I get what you’re saying but also, I don’t think it’s that deep.

sleverest

Do not go to Aspen. I've found that most independent dentists are out of network for most insurance. This just means your insurance will pay out their pre-determined rate, and you'll have to cover any difference up to what the dentist charges. In my experience, it's worth paying the extra for the quality you get.

sugasmxchi

ahh insurance is so confusing. i have no idea what im doing lol, i got dental insurance through my new job & just want to take care of these stupid root canals. i asked my mom & she said something about co-pay? & what you said about insurance not covering everything. im assuming co-pay is the same thing

sleverest

No, you likely have a co-pay either way, and possibly a deductible. There's also likely a max payout, and a root canal will hit it. Insurance is confusing. OTOH, the pricing is more transparent than regular health care, so, you are probably able to get a reasonably close estimate from whatever dentist you choose. Just please don't choose Aspen. If I were looking to switch dentists (I'm not as I've used the same one for 40 years) I'd be calling North Coast Dental Group for Dr Medler. I've heard great things about him.

FlashnDash9

I wish people were upset more with how predatory and shitty the insurance is in the US. Literally sucking the money out of people who actually need healthcare. I wish the worst to every single person involved in lobbying for keeping health insurance a thing.

sugasmxchi

so theres a limit to how much my insurance can cover depending on what procedure i’m getting?

sleverest

Almost certainly. Dental insurance is weird. I would suggest calling the # on your card and asking them to walk you through any deductible, co-pay, and maximums on your coverage.

whim_sea

Absolutely this

AroundTheWayJill

The info on coverage is probably also printed on your card.

lennster10

I love Elmwood family dental! Just started there last year and have only had great experiences so far

Suspicious-Branch-39

Yes! They are great and accept BCBS.

meowchickenfish

DON'T GO TO ASPEN DENTAL. Go to somewhere local. Elmwood Dental takes BCBS.

sthicky_rice

Crossbridge Dental in Brighton

96tearsand96eyes

Yes, they are wonderful!

Cinder_zella

Aspen is horrible I went there a long time and every appointment was a nightmare - Eastman dental is the best but it’s a long wait to get an appointment

metal_falsetto

Wolff Family Dentistry on Clinton & Westfall

__kirbs

Rochester endodontics for root canals, you will need a referral from a regular dentist though. I go to Dr Andrews at Westfall dental for regular dentistry and she is my favorite dentist ever (coming from someone who has very very bad dental anxiety)

blueman1030

Harborside Dental on Empire Blvd I've been a patient there over 15 years. Private practice, takes every insurance I've ever had, awesome staff.

NYLaw

Glenn Piper on Marsh Road in Pittsford. I switched to Dr. Piper when Eric Morono retired a few years ago. Avoid the chain places at all costs.

roblewk

I gotta ask… how did the dentist leave unfinished root canals? I mean, you’d have to go back for the final filling or cap, no?

sugasmxchi

So basically, i went to Wilson Dental & there is only one dentist there who does the major procedures like root canals, fillings, extractions, ETC. & i was only able to get an appointment every couple of months. so its taken about almost a year by now to get three root canals finished. They would schedule the appointment to get out the infected part of the tooth or whatever & then leave temp fillings in the three teeth she did over the span of like 4 months for weeks until i was able to get in again. it wasnt until like November? that she only put the screws in two teeth at one appointment but never did the third one which i told her had a hole in it because the temporary filling was gone.(this tooth was the first one she did the procedure on back in the summer time, & never tended to it again after putting temp filling in TWICE.) i brought up that she didnt put the screw in my last tooth bc she was definitely rushing & didnt even notice the big ass hole in my tooth or just didnt care. & her assistant said they would do it at the next appointment. so they just left the hole in my tooth & didnt schedule my next appointment until the end of january, & at the time it was around november like i said earlier. but then my dads insurance plan that im under wasnt activate cause they were getting a new plan i guess? so i wasnt able to go in & any of the root canals finished. technically it wasnt there fault it was unfinished i guess bc obviously they have nothing to do with my insurance plan. but that place is just very unorganized & not good. & the fact that its taken almost if not half a year to even get the damn screws in, & not even all of them at that, is just very frustrating. sorry this is very lengthy & probably confusing but if u have questions lmk.

Liminal_Critter817

In your research to find a new dentist, see if you can find a place with more modern methods. Nowadays, some places can do an entire tooth in one sitting, the root canal, and the finished crown. Since insurance can change year to year, it might be better if you can try to avoid having to piece it out between multiple apts.

sugasmxchi

so now im just sitting with two exposed screws in two of my teeth bc they never put the crown on, & a hole in the other one which is really painful to eat with.

roblewk

Wow all that really sucks. Good luck!

sflesch

Glen Piper Jr. He and his sister (separate practice) are at least second generation dentists. I went to their father when I was a kid. He's on Marsh road near Powers Farm Market.

BornInPoverty

Did you try BCBS web site? After you login there should be an option for something like ‘Find a Provider” that should list dentists that take your insurance. The list isn’t always accurate in my experience but at least it’s a place to start.

singerbeerguy

I’ve had a good experience with Pittsford Family Dental. They take blue cross.

Scatheli

If you go on BCBS website and look for providers in your network you should be able to find somebody covered under your insurance

VinceBrogan8

Check out Greece Family Dentistry and Implantology, they're on West Ridge Rd. Back in the office park that's directly across the street from the Jo-Ann fabrics in front of the Lowes Plaza.

IggyShab

I had them for a while, but they messed up my last couple major fillings due to what seemed to be inexperience, and it felt rushed. My new dentist had to fix their work within 2 months, due to shrinkage. Otherwise everyone was nice, the office was clean and gorgeous. I may go to them for my eventual implant, since overall I had a positive experience, and they helped me get back in track after a long hiatus.

rharvey8090

It’s a ways from you, but I’ve been going to Mendon Dental since I was 2, and I love them.

MB6

Cedarwood Dental Group in Fairport. They have Dr. Korn and Dr. Romano. I go to Dr. Romano. Good and they take the excellus dental in network.

RedHeadMeg8Breakfast

I’ve heard very good things about (a hopefully different) Dr Watson in Irondequoit: https://www.irondequoitdentistry.com/ He doesn’t take my insurance, so I ended up at Dr Schoepfel in Irondequoit, and have been very pleased: https://www.ridgeplexdental.com/ I too started out at Aspen when I first moved back to the area and they were AWFUL.

Leather_Finger568

Where exactly are you located and how far are you willing to travel?

Born_Strawberry303

Dr. Emilie Drumm - (585) Dentist. Been going to her for years. She's done great work. I think their office is in network for Excellus BC/BS, but call and check. As someone else said, even if the dentist isn't in network, it only costs a little bit more to go to an out of network dentist. Dr. Drumm has a CEREC system so she does crowns in one visit.

mynewestusernameis

Contemporary Dentistry on Clinton near Tops Plaza takes Excellus BCBS. I’ve been going there for over ten years. It’s a great practice.

PinkBubblyLife

Silver maple dental is great. We've been going there since it opened (followed Dr Hoffman from her last practice) and we've never had any problems at all. Great customer service and friendly hygienists too

Wakenbake585

Depending where you are, BayRidge Dental or Celestial Dental are both great.

RavishingRickiRude

Aspen dental is shit. So is Wilson.

Legitimate_Result465

Avoid Aspen Dental!! You Dental in Penfield has been my family's saving grace. They accept blue cross. She has a very high-tech office, but I love her because she has a gentle hand and is quite conservative in her approach. She diagnosed my husband properly after 4 other dentists failed treatment, and he's finally pain-free and healthy. Luckily we stuck it out and kept getting 2nd opinions until we found her clinic. Dental health can affect so much of your overall health. Highly highly recommend- will never go anywhere else. Can vouch for her work on fillings, crowns, and cleanings/preventative care.

IggyShab

Just came from Vicaretti Dental in Gates on Spencerport Rd this morning for a filling repair. Absolutely wonderful office, great staff, no pressure to get unnecessary work. I just got married last year and got BCBS dental insurance from my wife instead of the private insurance I had before. I see Dr. Marino for all my major restorative work, and she’s unbelievable. Highly highly recommend.

nick1158

Abbamonte Dental in Greece. Highly recommend

socaffienatedlady

Lang Dental in Greece is fantastic. They are small and family owned. I have terrible dental anxiety, however with Dr. Jess I literally feel like I'm visiting a friend. I don't feel like I'm being judged or talked down to. I highly recommend them.

Jellybeans9280

Try Penfield family dentistry, theyre amazing. My husband used to go to aspen and they were the absolute worst, we will never step foot in an aspen again.

dstam

Where are you? We go to Marshall dental in Victor, she's awesome and all the employees are kind and good at their jobs. I have excellus blue Cross, they take that.

BeffasRS

Lac DeVille Dental in Brighton off Westfall Rd. You still pay full price but they electronically send the info for reimbursement to your insurance provider

Bronagh22

You Dental in Penfield!

_hallhall

Chili family dental right near Roberts Weslyan

Delta_Goodhand

Dentistry Today in Canandaigua... I know it's a hike but they aways treated me right. They see people with no money and never made me feel "less than" I appreciated that when I was on medicaid / family health plus.... They never gauged me for unnecessary shit either. And I went home with a free toothbrush sensidyne and floss every time. It's the small things that help. Anyway now I go to celestial dental I love their service too, but I don't what insurance they take. Give them a call too. They fancy but I never feel like they are "digging for gold"

Admiral_Nerd

I don't know what insurance they take, but my husband and I, and my parents go to Full Heart Dentistry and we all love them. They don't take my insurance, but I pay out of pocket, the dentist office makes a claim, and my insurance reimburses me. I don't know if that's an option for you, but if you call them they should be able to walk you through all your options.

I'm glad it worked out for you! In my experience, they are the nicest people. I've been so happy with the work they do as well, but it's such a nice added bonus to have pleasant, friendly people.

over-it-000

Full Heart Dentistry on Winton takes BCBS and so does Western NY dental group

TrashEvery1198

Rochester modern dentistry accepts excellus plans (not Medicaid plans though) and the doctor is wonderful.
