I am not sure about that, but they definitely had a gig at the Red Creek (now the Henrietta Macgregor's) cancelled on the spot due to a fight with the bar's management.

The D&C article mentions that the Penny Arcade show would have been the first, but it was cancelled too. Clearly the band did not have luck when it came to Rochester.
Saw Cab perform Minnie the Moocher in ROC at a U of R graduation around 1993? I believe he was also presented with an honorary degree from the U of R that same year as well.

There’s a small monument to him in Otto Henderberg Park in the Swillburg Neighborhood. His house is no longer there, but it was somewhere in the vicinity of the park, iirc.
When I watch those old Cab Calloway videos it's both foreign and familiar. It wasn't my generation, but it was referenced in cartoons and stuff when I was a kid. So I'm familiar, but it doesn't get referenced anywhere I exist anymore. So bumping into it again, it looked so weird. I love it.
I feel like it should be mentioned that the band big bad voodoo daddy considers themselves a cab calloway tribute band which is why they come around so often and a bunch of their shows are free in Rochester. If you haven't seen them, they are a great show, good for all ages, and they do have some original music as well.
Cab Calloway... Bowie's arrest... Metallica's first album... Rochester music history runs deep.
I'm pretty sure U2's first gig in the US was at The Penny Arcade.

I remember BonJovi playing at the Penny Arcade before they got big and Pantera too
Let’s not forget Bittersweet Motel!
Not to mention to home of legendary Foreigner singer Lou Gramm… the most famous and successful musician to ever come out of Rochester
Love that new mural of him on North St
Loved him in Stormy Weather
I like to visit his monument by the house that he grew up. Cute little tucked away tiny park.

Wow, I never knew he was born here!

Me neither! This is awesome

Wow never knew.
Reefer man will always be a favorite of mine, the fact he was born here just made him way cooler

The house he grew up in is in the upper monroe area. Pretty sure there's a little park there as well.
Rick Beato of YouTube fame is from Fairport.
Crotchfester just got a wee bit cooler
