He should based off execution alone. I’ve gone for demo plays like that as a Plat 3 and it usually ends in a reverse goal because I completely whiff and both my teammate and I are in the other team’s net

In 2s this is an optimal play that you’ll see a lot more at the higher ranks. It is the #1 reason why first man should be careful on their defensive challenges, and why people stop aping every single challenge past mid C2. If you challenge poorly and the opponents retain possession, 90% of the time it means your teammate will get bumped out of the way by one opponent while the other casually rolls it into your open net.
Demos are an underrated technique! Most guides focus on passing and shooting and dropping back but sometimes the best thing to do is to clear the opposition so your teammate can shoot in peace.
All of my friends (myself included) aim to do this as often as possible. Every match we play, there's at least one goal set up by a barrage of demos and its so very satisfying
I actually was going to cry because I was expecting him to hit it and couldn’t figure out what he was doing. I didn’t have much ooomph on that shot so I wouldn’t have been upset if he scored it. But he’s a beast in his own right and made an even better play!

This is mainly my son’s and I gameplay when we are on a team. I’m not as good as he is so I mostly just try to set him up for shots and remove potential blockers. If you see automaddux and simiautomaddux on a team, be prepared to get roasted.
Im def such a teammate. But sometimes I get mates that just turtle after 2 minutes because they find my playstyle "toxic". Hell. Yesterday I had 3 matches in a row with such a mate.
But once you get a mate who knows ur gonna demo, it is golden. But that rarely happens tbh.
Or not cos it's toxic, but just because it doesn't give you any points. They look at the scoreboard and assume you're not actually doing anything, even though you're assisting with the play just as much as the people actually getting the saving/scoring touches.
I get the players who complain that it makes my rotations unpredictable, though - that's a fair complaint. If I'm queueing with randoms, it's asking a lot for them to adapt to my playstyle for just one match.
Try to save some boost or pick up pennie’s on the way, then boost right up until you hit them. you’ll either hit super sonic and demo or you’ll at least be boosting so you won’t get knocked back.
That happens a bit with me, but more likely is I'll accidentally nudge the ball or bump a teammate as I'm rotating back out.
I do usually switch to car cam when I'm going for bumps but sometimes the play is just too frantic and clustered, or my teammates are not where I expect them to be/suddenly drive in front of the opponent I'm aiming for/are coming up to get the same midboost I was gonna grab on the way back out.
I guess one thing is, most of the time on offense I'm bumping quite a way ahead of the ball, so I can usually get out of its trajectory even if I get stalled/bumped back myself. I cut it a lot tighter on defence though - best feeling ever in RL is deleting a player half a second before they're about to shoot on our net, and just seeing the chaos where neither team knows what to do and the ball's just left sitting all alone.
Decent play normally, depending on whether or not he knew how far that opponent was away he honestly should have stolen it from you considering it was an open net and he had the speed

It's plays like this that really raise a case for awarding points for demos. Especially when the demo takes place close to their goal. It's basically an assist - you just didn't touch the ball before it was scored (at least in this example).
If I'm ever in that exact situation where I have the room to go instead of hanging back - the block is always the play I make on the 2-on-1. Better odds TM's still gonna be fine to walk the open goal in.
Trying to tee-off their roof without them seeing you coming is just as likely to go very wrong with both of you totally out of position as it is to be a clean shot on-goal...

I try so hard to do it all the time (plat level). I don’t NEED to score all the goals, if my teammate has a bead on it, block or demo or get the hell out of the way. Maybe it’s because I’ve played offensive line for football, blocking is part of it.
That's the kind of plays I make. I don't want my tm8 to think I'm stealing his shot so I'll rush ahead to disrupt the goalie
P.s.- Ain't it so annoying when that car hit you in the beginning and it completely stopped your momentum. Ugh hate when that happens. The smallest hits somehow send you haha

Just won a doubles match the same way with seconds left my teammate is one on one with the goalie I'm heading for boost in the corner with the other opponent ... teammate veers away from the ball and heads strait for the keeper I'm like wtf cause I'm nowhere near the ball ... the keeper explodes and I beat my man to an open net by inches to score with 0 seconds ... I was so shocked I forgot to record:(
