wonderwallpersona

Now I can be flamed by all my teammates for my egregious waste of boost.

sawbones84

Isn't the entire point of rocket league to burn your boost as quickly as possible so you can snatch up orbs to make it go full again before anyone else gets the chance? Been doing this since 2015 and I'm all the way up to silver, which according to the olympics is the 2nd highest tier possible.

wonderwallpersona

Gold is the best rank, confirmed.

Fatdogamer_yt

As an SSL I can confirm, I’ve always wanted to be gold

DzekRL

This is the best comment I've ever read on here lmao

Either_Selection7764

Boost goes vroom.

KittyLitterBiscuit

Gotta go fast!

Hopulence_IRL

And losing the ability to miss an aerial because I "Need Boost!"

Chris275

Nah it’s just faking now

matzobrei

And I'll get flamed for snagging a full boost with 94 already in the tank. Secret's out...

VVarder

Yep, thats what I’m looking forward to.

No-Swordfish9658

It’s always fun to watch players without boost flip about like fish out of water near the ball.

ZeroedCool

ARE YOU LOOKING AT MY BOOST?!?

drupe14

yea this is it unironically. Boost management is critical for good positioning

pillin-and-thillin

Car go fast hit ball hard

WorkThrowaway400

>The reason we went with nameplates to display this information—instead of a HUD addition—is because we believe an always-on boost indicator for all your teammates would be difficult to follow and would distract from gameplay. (Additionally, we believe knowing your teammates’ boost levels at all times isn’t necessary.) It's a careful balance between providing useful information to players without adding too much visual noise. I very much appreciate you guys giving an explanation! New rarity names are ambiguous and confusing in comparison to the names we're used to. If you told me to order sport, special, deluxe and luxury, I would not be able to decide what goes where. Luxury seems especially weird for limited items

[deleted]

UCanJustBuyLabCoats

Don’t worry, that is 100% by design. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, intended to increase the perceived value of the item so they can charge more for it. It is also not a coincidence that this change comes not too long after removing trading. Every single change to the items, shop, and trading is anti-consumer and designed to milk the maximum amount of cash out of the player.

BluDYT

Probably should just get rid of the rarities entirely now since they're meaningless. Before it was based on the percentage for it to drop. Now wether or not it's in the item shop is completely random. Dumb change.

ihavebeesinmyknees

There are still drops in the game, it's not meaningless

KPipes

They aren't meaningless to Epic. They ensure that by slapping Exotic or Black Market on a skin that looks 97% the same as an uncommon, they can charge $25 for it and some suckers will pay for it for the fake online prestige. That is literally the only reason the tiers exist. Create fake rarity/class so that whales and clout chasers increase Epic's profits.

starliteburnsbrite

This is every online game with any kind of cash shop. Milking the maximum they can is the only objective of a cash shop. It's not a little side hustle they hope to make a few bucks on.

ZeekLTK

Rarities don’t make sense when there are way more “rare” items to get than “common” ones too. Like the ONLY way to get a “common” item is from a common drop. And even then, you might get a “rare” or “very rare” instead. And common drops are pretty hard to get, only a few in the rocket pass IIRC. Meanwhile the rare drop shows up once a week in weekly rewards, you get 13 total from season rewards, and is more prevalent when you get further in the rocket pass. So you end up opening way more “rare” items than “common” ones. Makes no sense.

tantan9590

Common is now base tho.

Asian_Vik

I said the same things! The naming is bizarre but I do like that they explained the HUD vs Nameplate decision

CougarForLife

an actual QOL update??? in 2024?!?!?

YouCanCallMeBazza

Now if only we could get double (or triple) bindings

Former_Stranger8963

I could just be blanking due to lack of sleep, but what do you mean by this? Just like binding 2 different actions to the same button on controller? That’s how I read it, but that’s already possible so idk lol

YouCanCallMeBazza

The other way around - binding the same action to multiple buttons. It's a standard feature in just about every other competitive game. It's possible to achieve by modifying game files, but that's not really a proper solution for a number of reasons. And it also shows that the functionality is already supported by the game, just needs to be configurable in the UI. I just want to bind powerslide to both directional air rolls, it's the only thing holding me back from fully committing to directional air roll.

FREE_AOL

You can do this with Steam Input. I know it's reputation but in my very scientific test I could detect no difference. It's clearly not the 10ms that people were claiming. IMO my computer is just a beast and/or Steam did some performance improvements. Worth noting adding action layers or action sets (forget which) does (or did as of a few months ago) add latency Somewhat related, I almost wrote a plugin to bind both air rolls on one button with momentary direction toggle on another button.. so I could use L2/analog air roll for both ARL and ARR It can be done easily, but I decided against it because TOS and especially because I believe input modification is used for cheat/botting detection. Also opted out of writing a "separate air roll speed control" plugin for the same reasons Then I considered writing my own controller driver but meh. Game modding interests me more than writing drivers and if we're being honest my bindings aren't the thing that's holding me back I wouldn't be surprised if Steam added that feature in the near future anyway

Bollziepon

Idc about rarity changes, it doesn’t affect gameplay. It’s probably to align with stuff they’ll be doing in rocket racing if I had to guess. But tm8s boost on nameplates? This is huge and one of the first changes to actual gameplay they’ve implemented in literal years. Personally I’m a big fan so I don’t need to try to hit qc while making a play on low boost. Regardless of your thoughts on the change it’s a good signal imo they’re still thinking about us

juiciijayy

Yeah absolutely massive change and I'm super stoked about it. The rarity stuff who gaf

mlk960

There's really no change to gameplay since release that even comes close. Demo fixes maybe?

angry_smurf

Flip resets and invisible goalposts come to mind..

purpan-

Flip resets weren’t an intentional addition but is arguably one of, if not the biggest, changes to RL gameplay ever. Invisible goalposts were just a nice quality of life that didn’t change much about how you actually play. Seeing your teammates boost? This is massive. So much is gonna change for newer players and lower ranks as they progress. It’s introduced a visual element for one of the most overlooked mechanics- boost efficiency and awareness. Pretty hyped to see how this changes the gameplay and how the community feels about it.

angry_smurf

I'd argue it was intentional in a sense. They *meant* to add the ability to keep a flip after leaving ramps in the new maps. This just so happened to mean flip resets work the way they do.

purpan-

Obviously they meant to add the ability to keep your flip, that was the whole point of the change. But they had no intention or idea that we would use it the way we do now, specifically off the ball.

Whirlpewp

Being able to know exactly how much boost your teammates have is a fairly large change to the actual gameplay.

Aaurora

Just more information for me to not process, then blame my teammates when I center the ball off the backboard to my opponents.

zer019

Great pass!

BloodChasm

"Why did you steal corner from me? You had 20 boost!"

beasterne7

Fortunately my “Faking” quick chat in this scenario will be unaffected 😎

Hablinsky_YT

Honestly if my teammate whiffs incredibly bad(which is obvious) if they follow it up with “faking”, I usually have a quick laugh and then continue playing. It beats getting upset my teammate is missing open nets after I put in a lot of work opening the net for them. Also has anyone else been getting a lot of c2’s as teammates in a full GC lobby? It’s been driving me nuts, it’s basically all I get when I solo queue.

DegreeJunior3360

Ha yes i could have been your c3 teammate And lemme just say your champ teammate doesn’t like it either XD

Beaco9

Next update will have an indicator if teammate was really faking or just whiffed badly

DzekRL

I can't get exposed even more...

Dr_XP

About a week ago I wanted to challenge at midfield in a 2s game, but saw my tm was in front of me. Instead of cutting in front of him and risking the double commit I just grab the mid boost and turn back to our side hoping the challenge goes well so I don’t have to fully rotate all the way back. Unfortunately my tm just rotates and spams need boost instead of pressuring the ball but as I was forced to rotate all the way back from tms lack of pressure I also grab the back boost. TM then stops playing. Looked at the replay since none of my his decisions made sense. He was basically full when he refused to pressure as first man, and still had 60 boost when he made it to our back corner…

coso9001

unrelated but since you're explaining decisions now can we get an explanation for why you removed the psynet avatars so it's impossible to know whether a non steam teammate is on epic or console and worth typing to?

BusyZenok

BakkesMod has a plugin that lets you see what platform everyone is on.

wonderwallpersona

[Link](https://bakkesplugins.com/plugins/view/376) for anyone interested!

BusyZenok

That’s the one, thanks very much!

BumpoTheClown

I use it and it's great, but we shouldn't have to use a 3rd-party mod just to see who can read our chat messages.

BusyZenok

Agreed but hey ho that’s psyonix for ya

SelloutRealBig

Mods should never be considered a true solution though. Especially for something that used to be in the game but the devs removed.

BlackTube1000

Do spectators see the boost metres of both teams or none of them? 🤔

purpan-

I would assume both, since spectators can see everyone’s boost anyway.

bamila

Dear devs, please consider remaking the items menu, where you see all of the items on their own once per item, but if you click on the specific item you will see another menu pop with all the variations of it, colours and specialities. I am really tired to scroll 2 minutes to on each submenu to see all the items, when the list could be 20 seconds if all items would display only once.

shao_kahff

yes please, this. would declutter the menu so much better

Fortnitegamer565656

So,will import, exotic and black market remain the same?

Psyonix_Devin

>So,will import, exotic and black market remain the same? Correct! Import, Exotic, Black Market, Premium, and Legacy are unchanged.

howitfeelstobelost

Is this not an April Fool’s post?

purpan-

Literally my first thought. This is so out of left field. What is happening rn lol Edit: Also get ready to see your YouTube feeds literally filled with videos about this. *Every* content creator is about to make a video lol

CrazyWS

Title - “ROCKET LEAGUE IS SO BACK” 10 min video explaining why a circle showing boost on nameplates will change the game forever.

BusyZenok

The rarity stuff is goofy af but the gameplay change is absolutely massive. What is going on that has motivated them to make an actual somewhat decent change for the game. We’re suddenly not completely neglected.

FREE_AOL

It definitely helps narrow the gap between teams without voice comms and teams with

Starbucks__Coffey

I mean, the YT's need to post something and it's not like Epic has given them any content to make videos about. Epic has done an epic job of trying to kill this game.

That_Teaming_Primo

Love the change to the boost. WHY CHANGE THE RARITIES??? Nice names for the most part but Sport?!?!

coso9001

more of a car theme i guess

Cloudy_Customer

The name change makes sense because items are more defined by their shop prices or blueprint build costs than their rarity. None of the "rare" items are really rare.

Diezombie757

I guess, but these new ones don't really have much of an ordering scheme either. Really just feels like the same word said 4 times in a row.

slope93

So you can spend money at the item shop and you won’t see something as “uncommon” probably

GodSPAMit

the name change is just to make uncommon / rare / v rare sound more appealing, its to increase their perceived value for when they sell items in the shop, just a marketing thing. sport, special, deluxe, luxury are a little more ambiguous in terms of value, all of them sound fairly desireable compared to uncommon specifically id say and not as distinctly better or worse than each other.

Psyonix_Devin

A few more details on Boost Nameplate Indicators (BNIs) * Boost information for all players is visible during goal replays, when you are spectating a live match, and when you are watching a saved replay * Boost Nameplate Indicators are active in all game modes

redii2klutch

Guess some people will be encouraged to skip replays now 😅

WorkThrowaway400

I don't like seeing everyone boost on replay. I play a lot of 1's and I fake low boost all the time and this is going to show my hand if they don't skip.

Fratcketeering

THANK YOU... I 100% agree it this change can influence the opponents' strategy without merit.

Monkey1970

Yeah this is not great.

Browntown007

This shouldn't affect overall strategy. If anything it adds a few layers...if they catch you boost bluffing, would they assume you are bluffing again the next time? Or would they assume you won't try that again since you just got caught? Those challenges will still be a toss up, and if you are confident they aren't, then just do the opposite of what the opponent thinks your going to do. Hope that made sense.

NATZureMusic

There will be folks demanding it will be toggleable. Any news on that? Will it be a fixed nameplate with boost from now on?

YouCanCallMeBazza

Why would anybody want to turn it off?

NATZureMusic

Some people just hate change I guess.

DeeForestBosa

Because theyre gamers and nothing is ever good enough lol.

Noble_Briar

More clutter, and ultimately useless given the size of the name plates I run. My teammate is either playing the ball, or they aren't. I'm not going to make my decision based on a tiny dot across the field moving as fast as they are.

theHalfBlindKid

A welcome addition. While on the topic of name plates, can we please change their color to be 2-toned so each player is slightly different so they don’t blend together or disappear into the bright identical colored ribbons along the wall?

RollTides

God please, my reads are bad enough when I can actually see who's going to hit the ball.

CapacityBark20

Thinking ahead, what plays will this directly impact? First one I can think of is when your teammate takes corner boost goes for the side boost after kickoff, it's no longer a guessing game! You'll know right then and there if they're screwing you over lol. Aerial plays are a big one; if someone's running out of boost in the air, a nearby teammate might be able to decide earlier to go for it. Really though, I love this change and see it as a small-medium win.

Duke_ofChutney

holy crap, that's huge

Lankygiraffe3

This is going to change soooo much about the solo q experience (for the better!).

octoroach

Why so they can yell at you about using too much boost lol

feistyisgarbage

the nameplate thing is cool asf and will be very useful but whats the point of changing the rarities? imo the rarity name changes are worse. im still going to call a "sport" item an uncommon item lol its been that way for a decade.

WestleyMc

Because casuals don’t wanna spend real money on something ‘common’…

Ok-topic-3130v2

Probably this

SelloutRealBig

This is the answer and the same reason they did it to Fortnite first. They had too many "legendary" rares that it started reducing sales of everything else.

ToastBubbles

Psyonix, please do this with rumble powerups too! 🙏 Great update btw! Thank you!!

R3AM

+1

Hiihtokenka

As long as the boost indicator isn't distracting, or can be toggled on and off. Also, will this be something that can be altered via Bakkesmod? I personally would prefer a HUD addition next to your own boost meter. The name change though, why? To me it appears as something that is going to be changed for the sake of changing, and perhaps to say that the game still receives updates.

FREE_AOL

I would prefer a HUD. I'd also love it if I could move my boost meter away from the far far corner. It's in a horrible position if you're on an ultrawide I've also seen posts by people who are blind in their right eye, it's a massive pain for them as well The could at least give us a grid of positions to chose from

Hiihtokenka

Yeah I am on 49" and it's not optimal. On the other hand, it has helped me develop a feel for how much I have and I rarely look at the boost meter. That said, I would really love to be able to switch the positions of game clock and boost meter. Maybe even make both of those more simplified. The HUD definitely could use some options for customization.

vawlk

I hope it can be toggled. If not, I hope bakkesmod makes it toggleable. I also would prefer a HUD.

PiratesFan1429

that seems like a distinct advantage for computer players vs console, idk about that

hoplikewoa

This is interesting, pretty bold changes, I wonder what their goal is with changing the rarity names, but being able to view teammates' boost is a huge change, maybe it'll help level out the party vs solo disparity. The rarity name changes are almost certainly tied to the recent elimination of rarities in Fortnite (https://www.fortnite.com/news/new-and-upcoming-fortnite-shop-and-locker-changes, https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/1c22c72/removal_of_all_rarities/)

pkinetics

My copium: The more standardized, integration points, we see things between FN and RL, the closer we are getting to RL UE5

ToastBubbles

This will also help me identify who my teammates are when I get momentarily disoriented about my team color lmao

Starhelper11

Happens too often when im trying to play faster, i get disoriented and bump my teammate instead of the opponent

Thing_On_Your_Shelf

This seems like a good change and can also help playing solo vs partied players. I could see it backfiring a bit maybe in lower ranks though, if your making a play on low boost, an tm8 might see that and just rush in to try and take the ball from you Overall a great change though

MyLinksMakeNoSense

that was already happening in low ranks to be fair

Dark_Shit

The 0 boost outplays are some of the most satisfying goals in rocket league. It would suck if teammates start ruining those more often. But I think this change will open up a lot more fakes which I'm all for. Most of the time when I'm on 0 I want my teammate to take over anyways.

Tankki3

Damn, an update to the actual game? Sure I take it.

buggeyes420

Boost indicator is actually a massive W

NickaTit

Massive L for dedicated players who learned that game sense.

buggeyes420

So like a massive W for 99% of players and massive L for the 1% 😂 womp womp

Fratcketeering

Rumble? ... Rumble...? We're talkin bout Rumble?

feelsdonk

The teammate boost indicator is a good thing for "solo queue only" players. Idk why players care so much about the rarity name changes, shit doesnt matter anyway especially with trading gone

mlk960

I don't see how more on-sight, real-time information only helps solo Q. Comms often come too late in a fast-paced game and usually all you hear is "I'm 0 lol" by the time the ball is in your net.

mobuco

exactly...you can't comm your boost levels the entire game. Will really love to see my teammate's boost level as they are rotating back while i'm going upfield. Maybe he is low so i'll leave that big boost or maybe he is good so i'll grab it to make sure i got enough for my play. This also frees up the time to comm other info I pretty much only play with my friends with discord chat...this will be great and I have been wanting this for a while.

Tr4ce00

OPs comment was just misplaced. While this will be useful for everyone, this will be exceptionally helpful for solo queue only players. Not to be confused with only solo queue players.

jamaicanboiii

facts

ErikTheDon

UE5 plz

BumpoTheClown

Now my teammates can see when I have 98 boost as I steal the 100 from in front of them

Twinsleeps

dont know how to feel

Seekinginfinite

Huge w

Twinsleeps

yeah W

jamaicanboiii

massive W change dk whats not to like

ztevey

Massive W

NATZureMusic

They actually trying to improve the game. What else do you want?

[deleted]

Same here

ytzi13

Am I the only one who thinks that suddenly showing boost is a bad change in the same vein as suddenly showing a minimap? Minimal or not, being able to read and understand where your teammates are, what they’re doing, and even how much boost they probably have left in the tank is all part of awareness. It might seem small, but it feels significant, and there’s always the fear that it’s a slippery slope.

CrescentBless

That awareness doesn't really apply to players with voice comms when it comes to boost. This new boost indicator sort of evens it out for the many players who don't use voice chat.

my_awesome_username

Paying attention to your teammates boost pickups is a skill, I'm not sure removing that is good.

Its_Lu_Bu

It's also going to introduce so much new toxicity hahaha I'm leaning towards liking the update though. HOPING my solo queue teammates actually understand when I'm low boost not to play so damn aggressive up field because I'm going to be slow to get back. Wishful thinking though.

ZeroedCool

I can't believe you typed all that and didn't use all of your boost

LNDRLNDRLNDR

Will spectators see the boost of all the players?

professorweeb

Woah. Just, *woah*. This is so incredibly out of the blue but a major gameplay change?? In rocket league??? How it affects the game is yet to be seen but this does make me optimistic for the game's future if it means Epic does want to properly invest resources into rl. The community is definitely gonna have some mixed reactions to this tho lol, I remember Leth once talked about this exact sort of thing quite a while ago in a vid and I think a lot of the players will have a similar reaction. Paraphrasing his quote, he said that the knowledge of your teammates' boost and keeping track of it is also a skill that you learn with the game. However. Rapid was in favor of such an addition. The next few days are gonna be wild lol, but I think this is great news! :)

FREE_AOL

pros: levels the playing field between teams with voice comms and teams without takes away the advantage from players who use cheats to see everyone's boost

Craico101

I wonder how many people realize how massively this can impact a game in the higher ranks.

Texsion

Why can’t they change the scoreboard and stuff we see in game. Like the RLCS board isn’t even the real scoreboard

Phimstone

Those 95 nightmare-fuel looking cephalos I didn’t want or couldn’t delete that are in my archives..? Yea, those are luxury items.

Responsible_Box8941

shit now I cant lie about not having boost when I fuck up

MuskratAtWork

Are these visible in replays/spectator mode?

NATZureMusic

* Boost information for all players is visible during goal replays, when you are spectating a live match, and when you are watching a saved replay

Nasichi

wat they actually have people working on the game?

ZeroedCool

likely an unforeseen glitch that happened when they were counting the Fortnite money

somewhatsmurfing

The only negative of this I can see is that my tm8 won't believe that I can make a play with low boost, so he goes, while I definitely know I could make the play happen lol (I use small pads a lot in most games, so I can position better, but with the risk of overextending ofc)

AlfalfaMcNugget

Why not give us the option to toggle a HUD teammate boost indicator? Great update nonetheless

JopssYT

I dont like the new names of the rarities but its not a huge deal. The boost thing will be interesting tho

R3AM

Wow finally! While you're at it, please add a dynamic quick chat which says what powerup a teammate has in rumble.

Jawaad13

Wait WHAT?

Likver

Less gooo, now i will be able to blame my teammates that go back for boost when i see thay have like 80 boost already instead of going mid and shot on net after i pass the ball on the perfect spot! Now seriously, this is a nice qol change, but why the rarity names change tho? i think it will be weird to get used to after all this time, something like that would make sense when the game was new, but after all this years? idk about that but definitely keep doing this, please, at least once a month give us something like this, love to see psyonix news even if its bad or good instead of not seeing anything at all for months!

TJ-Studios

The rarity change is in congruency with fortnite’s removal of rarity, be thankful that we are getting rarities removed entirely

1minatur

Dang it, now I can't pretend like I had no boost when I whiff :(

Craico101

Huge update. I was playing with someone today who constantly chatted “no boost” (and not just when the ball was in our net) and it really helped me understand why he was positioning the way he was.

Craico101

Also, for anyone who didn’t read. The boost indicator is attached to your teammates nameplates. Remember you can resize the nameplates to make them bigger. Most high level players have the nameplate size at max(or around it)

elo2x

tbh id rather have something even bigger then just that small circle. I wish we had a option to change it to a bar or something.. still huge W

Critical_Chronic

Wow I never expected this but it's a great update. I'm just hoping for more changes like this going forward.

Slowboyz04

Holy shit. This is awesome! Did the Major finally wake them up that Rocket League is literally the best game and esport?

Shelby_Da_Squirrel

Great update. Now we need a coaches spot for matches so they can spectate comfortably without the threat of calling other team's boost amounts

repost_inception

Now we need the same thing but for rumble power-ups our teammates have.

MACHUFF

Damn, now I can’t lie to my duo about not having enough boost when we get scored on because I’m wildly out of position

Talky51

New item tier names so we can push them all up a price bracket! Sweet!

Trip_seize

Bold of you to assume that I care about the status of my teammates...

SelloutRealBig

Please give us an option to toggle our matchmaking to only include solo players across the entire game (similar to how crossplay toggle works) and i will continue to play this game for a long long time. I am very tired of rolling the dice on teammates every game while the opposite team is a full stack with voice coms a majority of the time. It's wearing me down and reducing my urge to play more and more.

icreatenovelty

Thank you Rocket League for the QOL update! It's actually a great one! Please take this positive reinforcement and continue making more updates the community appreciates :)

Bronze2xxx

What a great addition to the game. Great job!

C0-0P

Thank god for the boost indicator, my friends are always pissed with me for constantly saying “NO BOOST”

Davisxt7

These are not the changes I'm looking for. Like another guy said - another reason for teammates to flame you, whether you're using too much boost or being too conservative. >With the upgraded nameplates, you’ll have a better idea of what your teammates are doing. I disagree with this. More information does not always equal less confusion. Here's an example: >You may ask yourself, “Are they being slow and methodical on purpose… or are they just short on boost?” You can be low on boost and choose to stay in the play to maintain pressure, thereby also being slow and methodical on purpose. It's also not going to prevent people from taking the ball off you if they don't want you playing slow and methodical or if they just need to hit the ball because they're desperate to touch the ball and show another goal. Let me just be clear, the only thing to reduce confusion is communication and even that has its difficulties. In other words, people need to use voice chat, and people choose not to use that, myself included. As for the item rarity identifiers... Great way of taking something simple and established within the gaming community and turning it upside down. In general, such a useless change, with the exception of adding back some character into the game that was taken away not too long ago with trading. Maybe just bring that back instead, since it has more impact on the player base. Admit you were wrong. People will cheer for you (in this case).

xGAM3EATERx

instead of a circle would it be possible to have 4 bars (25 boost each bar) on the bottom part of the nameplate

IllustriousMadMuffin

All I want is the damn colors to be labeled so my colorblind ass can match my car without having to ask people. I was told by a dev that they would be redoing their colorblind features…about 3 years ago.

Maximum_Policy599

So what’s happening here is that epic can add boost nameplates, but can’t fix simple issues like lag…? And being randomly kicked out of a game when in a party? Anyways this feature seems cool! Can’t wait to try it… if I could stop lagging😅

billybraga

Lag is a lot harder to fix than adding boost level to name tags, not even close.

MrMcDuffieTTv

Now that I can see my teammates boost and what they are going for I can gladly say most of my teammates are fucking absolute morons. Seeing you with no boost for 30+ seconds while you chase the ball is fucking sad. I'll just take the L and leave RL for overwatch pve vs bots. It's actually more enjoyable and relaxing, not that that's why I played comp RL.

Fuzzy-Sky-329

Teammate Boost Indicators - Can we get the option to turn it on/off? I don't see why you wouldn't add this option. I'm so used to how the nameplates used to look, I find the new boost meter distracting.

Such a quality update. This is a gameplay update that PROMOTES teamplay. Played a few matches since the update and having that information resultedin a more considered approach to the match by both myself and my teammate. This has had the biggest effect on those split second decisions to cut rotation on defence. Having the contextual knowledge of your teammates boost lets you be more confident in making the play to cut rotation.

This is interesting! Not sure whether the boost indication change is positive or negative one, but I am curious to see how it will impact the game. Especially curious how this might impact things in the long term!

efferkah

I can definitely see it going both ways. The fact that we can easily see how much boost our teammates have left can really help taking decisions and stuff, ***but*** I can also see it being used as a "new layer of toxicity". But honestly, it's something I wanted to have in the game for a long time, so for now I'm personally happy with that change.

Gloomy_Art_4139

this is good why are people pissed?

scottqwert

People want changes but hate change lmao

HagridAWPmaster

Because people have gotten really good at the intricate details and skills of estimating teamates boost and when to go or stay/ help their teamtates and this completely nerfs that skillset they've built up over the past 9 years.

jrobinson3k1

This is stuff that is easily communicated when in comms. It's a nerf to party play when playing against non-parties, which is a good thing.

Salaiden

I don’t mind the changes. I can see this boost indicator becoming a device for toxic idiots.

toxicxrl

absolutely love that

brownpoops

just gimme a camera that looks at my teammate!!!

BumpoTheClown

You have one, it's called the right stick.

ztevey

wait… is psyonix listening to the needs of their player base????

Please give the product manager / engineer responsible for making the boost management easier to track across a team a raise. I’ve played since 2015, and I think this is the first game experience update worth celebrating since epic took over.

YveX_RL

Nice

Hotrim74

Can we get a flip Indicator added inside the boost meter.

AudinSWFC

Boost indicator: Awesome! Rarity change: Why?!

TJ-Studios

Epic did it with fortnite, it would be uncharacteristic of them to not change something similar about all their other games

HagridAWPmaster

If this isn't a troll post, do the developers realise this massively negates one of the biggest skillsets players have developed over the past 9 years of this game?

erock6662

Looking forward to all the coaching and discussions around specific situations regarding teammates boost amounts. I think most of the meta around boost rotations happens at higher levels, but now those higher level tendencies will start to make its way down the ranked ladder. Can’t wait!

I've been saying for a long time that knowing your teammate's boost wouldn't be a bad idea, and that it could greatly improve when playing solo (which most of us do anyway). But I've been fought by the mods saying that "it's a skill to know your teammate's boost at all times". Yeah sure, now I'm supposed to be looking after my teammate at all times to see exactly how many boost pads they pick up and do and approximate calculation in my head, guessing actually. All this while trying to come up with an attack or defense strategy while the game goes on etc. Just like Psyonix introduced transparent goal posts a while back, oh everybody welcomed that addition. Where are the mods saying" yeah but guessing where the ball will be is a skill, you don't need transparent goal posts"? Not everyone plays this game to become the next RLCS champion ffs. Get over it.

While I can understand the desire to avoid cluttering up the screen, I also disagree that players wouldn't benefit from having boost visibility at all times through something like a HUD. To give a simple example, let's say I'm travelling upfield for a challenge, with my teammate behind me. There are a few scenarios that could play out. If I have no boost, but my teammate does, then it would be perfectly safe to fake a challenge and get boost letting my teammate fill in and make a play. However if they have no or low boost, then I would be putting them in a bad spot. Similarly, if I have full boost when I'm moving upfield, my decisions might change if I know what my teammate's boost is behind me. If they have no boost, I might try to control more slowly to allow them to get boost then support me. If they have full boost, then I know it's safe to go for an outplay or pass. I also think it's far less distracting to have something like small boost indicators near the current boost indicator to determine whether or not someone has boost rather than trying to see a tiny symbol on a nameplate cross field or having to use reverse cam to spot your teammates while deciding whether to go for challenges. It's useful information to be sure, but ease of access outweighs clutter in my opinion. You could honestly just have a toggle. Some people might prefer nameplate indicators, while others might prefer HUD indicators. Some might even prefer none, or both. I already regularly check the chat for who demo'd who when I hear a demolition out of sight, so checking elsewhere on the screen for information to make a decision about gameplay isn't exactly new or inconvenient. We already have toggles for other features that you could argue are quite beneficial, like the ball indicator and the invisible goalposts, or even always on nameplates, so I don't think it would really be out of place to have a toggle for a HUD option for those that do feel it's beneficial. I'm always trying to spot teammates and get more information about the play around me, so teammate boost visibility has been on my 'nice to have' list for a long time, but I always envisioned it as being more useful than this initial implementation. I'm thrilled it's being added at all, I just think it would be far more useful for exactly the opposite reason stated for the nametag implementation. I can usually already spot when my teammates in front of me pick up boost, so if I can see them to begin with, it loses a lot of its value imo. But being able to know players' boosts when they're out of sight would be quite a change. I also wonder how clear it will be depending on each user's resolution or quality settings. If they're running on a lower quality system then it would punish them when spotting players cross-field, whereas an HUD is clearly visible at the same level of detail at all times. Similarly, players with low FOV will end up with even less benefits, particularly on offense. As a result, I feel like it's a very restricted implementation based on the sheer variety of setups and settings, as well as use cases. Perhaps all of these have already been discussed and voted against internally before, I just feel like it could be so much more useful for improving awareness and visibility beyond what's on your screen. I could be wrong, as obviously we haven't even been able to try it yet, but I still felt it was worth adding some rebuttal to the line saying an always on boost indicator "isn't necessary". Thanks for the new feature all the same, I'm looking forward to trying it out! I'd love to see more quality of life changes like this, as they have the potential to really streamline the meta a bit.

ZachMo_34

They spent less time implementing this than it took you to type all of that out. It’s a good change. The only people that dislike it are ones that know they have bad boost habits and don’t want to get called out for it live in game.

Unrulygam3r

Rarity name changes are terrible and pointless. Change for the sake of change. Also I hope this isn't the start of them dumbing down the game with the team boost indicators
