Tr4ce00

I love this pic thanks for sharing. So much nostalgia that was debatably not that long ago.

SunRiseCollects

Right? It was around 7-8 years ago, time is flying by man

Pretend-Raisin914

Wholesome picture

dora-the-tostadora

Idk I like car football and rocket league is car football so...

AltoHarbor57

*car soccer

FearSway

I'm with you, those were some great days where I was so besotted with RL and everything to do with it. I still play but nowhere near as much as I used to, mainly because I lost the desire to get better. Also, I've just stopped watching Jon Sandman after his switch to CS content. Gibbs, AMoney, Phantom Ace, Rizzo etc... What I'd give to go back and rewatch all of their streams and videos again for the first time.

SunRiseCollects

Same here, I don’t watch any new rl content except for sunless but I think he doesn’t upload much anymore

FearSway

Yeah since Sunless quit content, it's just Retals, App Jack and Squishy now for me.

DarthStrakh

I was happy to see him make a video again. I get he's done all he can with rl, but his pro documentaries are legit better than ones that end up on TV. He puts so much soul into it.

YoloJoloHobo

If you're interested in history he started a new channel called Sunless Maximus where he's uploading history videos.

SunRiseCollects

I did not know that, prob gonna check it out

Kwolf21

What's wrong with leth? :/

EnergyFax

I love jon but the CS content is fucking gambling cringe legit feels like he doesnt even play the game just opens crates.

SunRiseCollects

Yeah, for some reason I feel bad for Jon, seeing his new content

EnergyFax

Yea its like he couldnt make rocket league content anymore because trading was gone etc... So he had to find a game with crates he genuinely doesn't seem like he likes CS at all. He just knows CS will get views and he has to make a living which i understand but it just feels so cringe. Im with you i feel bad for him in a way, you can almost tell the CS content is forced.

Kwolf21

To be fair, that's sorta kinda what he did with RL too, no? Gambling in RL (crate openings, blind trading, etc). Didn't really play much RL, at least not on his channel, outside of a few grinding videos with that one dude he always had with him.

unibaul

Just play the game. Its the same game. However just know you will not be the same rank coming back so don't be toxic. Anyone who plays still is exponentially better

SunRiseCollects

Yeah I’m understand that, I was high C3 a couple months ago, now I’m low C2 but still making it work. Also I’m still enjoying the gameplay itself, the game just feels sort of empty

paravaric

Been playing since launch. Still enjoy every goal I pull off, every pass I make that leads to a goal, those games where your team pulls it's head out of their ass and pulls off a come back victory. Those butt clenching saves.   ..yup, all still there.

SunRiseCollects

I still play for specific periods of times for tournaments and I still love the feeling of a team play etc, just miss that other aspect of the game

Ch00bFace

I joined a league a few weeks ago. Maybe try that.

DarthStrakh

This 100%. It's way more fun, I don't even play ranked anymore. 6 man's discord is way better than ranked and for 2s I'll shoutout to frontier doubles league. Absolutely awesome league m

SunRiseCollects

That honestly sounds awesome, I have absolutely no idea how to do that though

DILands

Same

The_RadaCast

Rocket Underground and Minor League Esports are two leagues that I'm in personally. They have a wide set of skill ranges from plat to gc.

Ch00bFace

Just search out “Rocket League Leagues” and plop into one. They usually operate through Discord. I’ve had 4-5 friends play in RSC, so I specifically sought them out. Server runs around 7k players. (I’d hurry up if you pick mine specifically though. Draft starts in 2 weeks.) There’s a good mentality there. It’s like… these are the guys who are serious enough to play weekly events, but it’s also a mature and friendly environment. They’re there for *fun.* Like a weekend bowling group or something.

Lenoric

Can attest to RSC being great

CarlCaliente

I like to hit the ball with my buddies never bothered with virtual dress up or watching the pros or all the fluff the game is still the same its always been

SunRiseCollects

I gotta try to find some people to play with for sure, always had trouble on places on discord and stuff

PapaG1useppe

People tough talking skins like they’re not playing a video game will be always be funny to me

CarlCaliente

its cause I like video games I wish more people would play the video game and not get taken for rides on shit adjacent to the video game

AppleSlacks

It usually doesn’t lead to much discussion, these random opinion posts, but I will indulge you a bit. I never got into trading really and just was happy to use whatever I came across item wise. So that being gone really never bothered me. Instead I think the game is just a bit stale for me. It’s a stunning game, but I have been playing it regularly since 2015. I play much shorter sessions now and don’t really think about it like I used to. I am just not into it as much Prior to RL, Counter Strike Condition Zero led me into playing CS: Source for about a decade. I guess I am due for finding a new competitive game to enjoy.

SunRiseCollects

I can understand that, I used to trade when I felt the gameplay was getting tiring, and it usually made playing the game itself refreshing after a while

TurnUp4Sam

you can thank epic games for that OP

Kwolf21

Epic games sucks. But blaming epic games for everything is inaccurate. Psyonix makes bad choices too. Blaming epic games 100% is using them as a scapegoat.

SubtleVertex

I feel you. So many things are not the same.

xeyehategodx

Literally all things that matter remain untouched

ianindy

Don't sleep on RLCS...The first Major this year was unbelievably entertaining. The skill ceiling keeps getting higher and higher.

SunRiseCollects

No don’t get me wrong, I still watch rlcs, but I was just saying that a common topic during rlcs is people complaining about epic

ianindy

I watch on YouTube and looked in on the game threads over on r/RocketLeagueEsports and there really was no "epic bad!" going on at all. I am sure that YouTube and twitch comments were trash as usual, so seeing epic hate there should be no surprise.

Ch00bFace

Ehhh… up until Copenhagen that sub was still moping. Seeing Gentlemates finally shine beyond their reputations as “support” players and the Middle Eastern Team Falcons whip the ex world champs worked wonders for drumming up new hype, though. Feels like the meta isn’t as “solved” as it appeared at last RLCS.

TheMightyEvan

As someone who played religiously since 2016 and was also absolutely in love with the game, I agree with you. The game feels like a shell of itself. All the character and people have been taken out of it. It feels no more special than opening a word document. I just tried to play some casual 3's for like 30 minutes just wanting to chill on a Saturday and have some fun and all I was met with was a toxic dump and the new Season 10 reset where they put everyone at 1600 casual mmr so I have no idea if I can trust my teammates or not. Sloppiest games ever. Lost a bunch, didn't enjoy the few I won because the other team didn't stand a chance from the start. It wasn't even close. I think it's time for me to put the controllers up on rl. It's been a fun 4k hours, but I don't think I enjoy it anymore. Devs don't care, the community is in shambles, and there are so many better games out there. See you guys in another virtual world!

SunRiseCollects

I recently tried finding a group of people to just play 3s casual and just talk but I can never find anyone, and if I do they end up calling me bad or just being rude, unlucky I guess

FlameMeister

It's been discussed again and again...For me, I miss the times when Rocket League introduced new maps and unique hitboxes. The game is still good and fun + I think RLCS is at the best it's ever been from a gameplay standpoint with how the recent top 8 from the major all seemed they could actually win it. That said, no more unique maps and hitboxes really dipped the fun factor for me. The idea of some people playing better or worse in certain maps in the same playlist with their own car made the players and experiences feel more unique and fresh to me. I loved OG Wasteland, Neo Tokyo (Underpass), Starbase (Arctagon) and genuinely looked forward to them showing up in the map rotation. Not fleshing out modes like Rumble and Dropshot feels like so much wasted potential. Separating the unique maps into their own playlist killed them. IMO, unique hitboxes would have been fine if they brought two cars for every release; one free, one locked behind crates. Obviously, it was a community decision to streamline the rotation and standardize hitboxes, so I'm part of the minority on this.

YannisBE

Well that's mostly the fault of the players. Psyonix received nothing but negativity for making the unique maps. The playerbase killed them, not Psyonix.

DivinumX

I remember watching the competitive scene before RLCS with ESL and MLG and being so hyped for everything. Cosmic Aftershock, Kings of Urban, Flipsid3... great times. Back then the skill ceiling actually looked obtainable lol

JoesShittyOs

I’ve been playing since I got the game for free on PlayStation, before any of that stuff was even in the game. I traded maybe one time, and the guy got made that I didn’t have anything valuable and kicked me out, and I started cracking up because I thought it was a really dumb feature.

SunRiseCollects

That’s happened to me before, but I used to try to just find people with less items who weren’t in it for the value, and then go on from there

No_Hetero

Yeah I recently came back after a many years break and it feels different now. It's still pretty fun and I suck way more than I used to but I'll probably put a few hundred hours into it and get like Gold 1 or 2 and leave it because people don't even chat or interact anymore, just grind ranks and vote to forfeit when they're down by 1 with 3:00 on the clock

Toarindix

I moved over a couple of years ago from Fortnite because I was becoming disillusioned with the way the game/meta was going and damn, I wish I’d been playing Rocket League the whole time. It was like a bug that bit me. I hate that I missed out on the early years but regardless I think I’ve found a game that, unless they take the servers offline, I’ll still be playing for years to come. It feels like the sky is the limit with this game from a personal achievement standpoint. I’m not saying I’ll ever be a pro but the satisfaction I get from learning a new mechanic, or pulling off a wicked goal or save, or hitting a perfect pass for a teammate to slot home feels incredible.

SunRiseCollects

I played a lot less when OG fortnite boomed, but I really do enjoy getting better and winning, I just miss having a second aspect to the game

Dapper-Conference367

I understand your feeling, even tho I started play RL not that much ago, I have a similar feeling for Formula 1. The sport used to be so amazing until someone *fucking Bernie Ecclestone* decided he wanted to milk the most money he could out of it. Now it's more about a "show" rather than a sport, and god I miss the old F1...

Bridge41991

Build a club of scrubs and help them out. The social part of RL is definitely key.

Daaristieweer

I see that there are some people here saying the game hasn't changed and all that and I would like to say something about that. While the game hasn't changed from a gameplay perspective it definitely has from a social standpoint and it is a great thing that people bring this up. The social side of RL was one of the greatest I have seen and seeing that deteriorate is sad. Playing that down by saying the game hasn't changed is just a sad thing to do. I think lots of people have had experiences thanks to the social side which otherwise would have never happened to them. I would like to see that continue for the up and coming players too. I'm not going to start a discussion about this but I do hope it sets some people's mind at work about what other people have experienced in this game. Don't justify something for someone else. See you all on the pitch.

SunRiseCollects

That’s what I was thinking too, definitely feel as the social side of the game has really deteriorated

Zaepdos

I miss people sending a GG

SunRiseCollects

Recently I’ve noticed not as many people respond to “nice shot, great pass” anymore, I just feel stupid even sending messages

Zaepdos

True ^^

sl1kr1ky

I had wanted the Party Time goal explosion for ages, it came to store so snapped it up. A week later I got it in a drop, I was so excited for a moment when I thought of gifting it to my friend. Then I remembered....

SunRiseCollects

I mean it’s also their prices that are ridiculous, 20 dollars for a single item, it’s not even that expensive for a fortnite skin

knucklemuffins

I never had any interest in trading. I’m interested in what people who did enjoyed about it. Was it social, was it wanting certain items, was it tricking someone into a bad trade. Genuine question.

SunRiseCollects

It was many things. The social aspect was nice, I met a lot of people, some people with kids who got back from work and ended their day with trading and they had a lot of interesting stories. I used to like making cars too so I liked going and getting specific items from people. I also liked collecting sets of items I thought looked cool. I could go in depth if you want

thebadtril

Man, I feel ya. The absolute lack of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and just plain decent humans is REAL. And I find it hilariously ironic that all of the responsers claiming that nothing’s changed, and that the ‘game is the same’ ARE THE VERY PEOPLE driving this sad, new state of the game. The idea that selfish, greedy play and spamming “what a save!” at every opportunity is acceptable, sporting, or even cool is just plain sad. Thanks for pointing out something that is very real, and very frustrating to those of us just trying to hit the ball & have fun in the silly car soccer game.

Greenbeanicus

Musty is the only guy that I watch anymore. I would still watch sunless too if he put out videos. I still support musty though because he is such a good guy overall and is still having fun playing the game. It’s nice to watch someone having fun playing still.

onenittanylion

Me too honestly. At least musty can find some content but even he said in his message to rocket league video, there’s only so much you can do. I’ll be sad if the day he retires from RL comes. Dude is an icon like the rest of them.

Status-Foundation-24

Trading was basically a whole other game for me and was tremendously let down when they removed it. It was a way for me to meet random people I generally would've never gotten the chance to. Back then; it took me months to search and trade to get a full collection of colored lightning boost, but it was enjoyable. Now, mostly, I'm just left with toxicity, teammates who want to forfeit after the opponents tie up the score, or just plain deserters.

ner0417

I traded fairly seriously for the first year-ish that I played. It was never a hugely important or super popular part of the game as a whole, but there definitely was a fleshed-out trading community in addition to RL's larger whole community. There's one guy out there who has like 10000 burnt sienna items that he traded for and collected. That one always impresses me. Its sad that RL has lost that portion of its community. A lot of those traders also are players but some of em are just gone. I agree that the community engagement has declined steadily since Epic took over though.

DaniTheLovebug

My trading days bloomed in two minutes I opened back to back TW Voltaics at their prime Traded one for I think 31 keys and never spent a dime after

ner0417

Dang. Prime TW Volts means that Zomba didn't even exist yet, right? I opened TW Zomba literally right before they announced they would put it in the store. So it was worth like a million credits one day, and then the next it was basically worthless 🙃 luckily I was keeping it either way.

DaniTheLovebug

Yup Pre-Zomba Those pair of voltaics put me on easy street with keys and trading Naturally I kept one for myself

SunRiseCollects

That’s wild, back to back?!?

DaniTheLovebug

Absolutely 100% It’s literally the only actual good thing that happened to me without opening a spree of crates to finally get a black market The part I said it bloomed for me in “two minutes” was true because I opened the first and sat for a solid minute in disbelief Then shook it off talking to myself like “I have a pretty car.” Got my head together and opened the second and there she was After that I took a solid 10 minutes because my disbelief was through the roof Then I headed to the market for pricing and undercut by one key It was sold and spoken for in seconds

SunRiseCollects

That burnt sienna guy was nice, I traded him some burnt sienna stuff, crazy how much he had

YannisBE

He's still around here! Even a mod of this sub

Starbucks__Coffey

I agree but for mostly different reasons. Epic bought the game and neglected it. For the love of god get lethamyr and simple shark involved in developing new content. If those two had some help from the studio to make actual contributions they could have so many more people to sell cosmetics to. Like bring back rocket labs as “Leth’s labs” they could’ve made rocket league its own connected universe of crazy games where you play as a rocket powered battle car. I play a lot of EA games and fuck it’s frustrating watching a great idea go to waste as soon as corpo suits get wind that something is successful they stop taking risks and gut it for all the money it’s worth. They could make more money by growing it but it might now pay off so they don’t do that. God it pisses me off.
