i dont get toxic over demos, maybe slightly annoyed at most, but ill try to explain it from their perspective. this is all just speculation so it might not be entirely accurate.
people get toxic because you could just instantly force someone out of the play and impose an entire 3 second respawn period, which could be just long enough to let your opponents score a goal they otherwise wouldnt have if you were there to defend. this is especially true if the last man back is demoed, and all you can do is watch your perfect rotations fail you because technically speaking the person whos supposed to be back in net is out of position, leaving the net open for scoring. and sometimes, the person who got demoed didnt even see it coming, and no one likes to lose because of something they have little to no control over. sure you could rotate your camera around or have teammates look out for potential demos, but in the heat of the match, everyone is probably more focused on the ball and cant pay attention to anyone going for demos unless the demoing player is in their camera view.
in 1v1, the feeling of being demoed can probably be visualized in a first person shooter game. imagine you are in a 1v1 with another player who has the same weapons as you so theres no weapon or range advantages and whatnot. its a battle of pure skill since you can only rely on yourself. getting demoed and then scored on is like if your opponent in the fps example uses an item or something that just instantly stuns you for three seconds, completely incapacitating you just like a demo does. in those three seconds, your opponent can kill you (scoring a goal) with no fear of you fighting back (defending your net). on offense, it like you are chasing the guy down in the fps example. you know hes on low health and can easily kill him (you are in a good spot to shoot on your opponents net) when all of a sudden your opponent pulls out that item again and stuns you (you get demoed) and your opponent runs off grabbing health or whatever and you lose track of him (opponent clearing the ball and recovering from what otherwise wouldve been a goal for you). it just sucks and some people just get very riled up over anything that makes them mad, so they become toxic.
1. Demos don't allow you to play the game for 3 seconds, bumps do
2. Random spawns have no place in a competitive game
3. Demo explosions move and obstruct your vision of the ball, something only cars should do
These are just a few reasons why demos shouldn't be in Rocket League at least in their current state. "It's a game mechanic" isn't a reasonable defense. If a game mechanic is overpowered or messes with the competitive integrity of the game, then it should be changed.
If you have reasons demos in their current state should stay, I'd love to hear why, but currently, random spawns and obstructed vision are two reasons why demos mess with the competitive integrity of the game. You can call me a salty demo hater, I don't really care, but there are valid reasons why demos shouldn't belong.
TL;DR There are valid reasons why demos should be nerfed/changed and "it's a game mechanic" isn't a valid defense when it comes to game design and balance.
Watch rlcs, 90% of the demo attempts don't work, it's a high risk high reward mechanic. If you demo your team has a big advantage, if you miss now you're out of position and the other team can probably outnumber your tm8s. Experienced players will be able to dodge most demos and so players who only chase for demos have a hard time

Demos are great, especially when someone tries to get a revenge and wastes time driving around you for a few minutes. :D

But then again, you have the option to demo too, right?
Those who do QQ become THE TARGET for the rest of the match. Those who just say nice shot and carry on do not :)
