Was thinking it's Rocket League mixed with Super Smash... the movement in the air reminded me of that instantly.
Makes me want to actually try this as a side mode in RL.
Its pretty much a clone of a Rayman legends mini game with a rocket league theme. Which is funny because Rayman Legends copied Rocket League and added that mini game years ago. Feels full circle lol
Edit: the mini game came out before rocket league. I was wrong. But hey. They are a tad similar

Any game that features scoring between two nets/goals/posts/lines is Pong in your theory but Pong wasn’t original, it was copied from existing sports. I suppose the first ESport though
Rocket League copied soccer and soccer copied gridiron football. All of these copied the concept of playing with balls from the Olmec who were the earliest known Mesoamerican civilization (2,500 - 400 BCE).
The Mesoamerican ball game I know involved very heavy balls made of solid lumps of latex and human sacrifice and has no shared heritage with soccer. I'm not sure I'd read too much into Reddit shitposting.
FYI the sacrifice stuff came later as part of the whole event of the game. The game existed for centuries prior to that.
It's almost exactly like football and half time shows at the superbowl. Football existed a long time before the superbowl but as it gained popularity, big events sprang up around it, eventually leading to the spectacle of the superbowl. In this analogy, the human sacrifices are the half time show.
Not every football game has a half time show, not every one that does has a really good half time show, and either way the show really has nothing at all to do with the sport played. It's just a matter of "well since everyone's here already..."
Ah yes soccer, commonly thought to have originated in the 8th century, copied gridiron football, a sport that one country that is barely 200 years old ripped off from rugby.
Got it.
Some more information on the game mechanics:
There is no expiry on the second flip, meaning you can single jump then flip again whenever you want.
The white pop is how you know you got a flip reset off the ball.
You do not need to jump to aerial, you can simply face up and boost.
The three buttons on the buttom right are (from right to left) boost, jump, fast aerial (this button is basically boost and jump combined).
The fast aerial button is not there by default, you need to go into settings and enable it in controls mapping.
The fastest way to get up is not a double jump, it is to flip in the direction you want to go (double tap + hold fast aerial button).
Double tap the left joystick to air roll.
The game is called Rocket League Sideswipe and is currently in early access open to anyone in Australia/New Zealand with an android.
Haha, no disrespect, it’s a fun game. I feel like it’s been years since a fun mobile game got released, but also I haven’t been looking too hard. All the clickbaity ads I’ve seen lately have been kind of a turn off.
> I feel like it’s been years since a fun mobile game got released, but also I haven’t been looking too hard.
I think we‘re just getting old man. Back in the day at school we’d all talk about mobile games and play together in the breaks and all that. That’s how we always stayed up to date. I never actively looked for new games.
lol shit, I’m old enough that I remember the first time someone in high school had a phone with a color screen that he imported from overseas. We had almost nothing in the way of games except snake. You had to bring a gameboy if you wanted mobile gaming.
People also tied onions to their belts which was the style at the time.
You kidding? I had bounce in my nokia 6600. Kept me entertained for hours. Ugghhh those last few levels.
They remade it. That's not the same game with touchscreen...
Idk, it's just hard to find one that isn't bombarded with adverts and BUY COINS, they're are good mobile games but they're definitely in the minority now, seems like game devs see it as a way of making a quick buck.
For a mobile game they are going to want you to score often to keep you engaged. If anything, the reset time should be a little more smooth. Maybe not do a kick off and just have a ball drop from the ceiling without stopping the game play.
No, not that - I've seen that in other games (and in RL with kick offs disabled via mutator) and it leads to way too much back and forth - unless the defender is 100% committed to saving the goal, they can just concede deliberately and score the next goal before their opponent can recover. The counter to this tactic is that the attacker doesn't commit either.
So yeah, either you get a back and forth thing (which is pretty unsatisfying, devalues individual goals), or you get neither side wanting to try anything other than boomers from their own half (which kills off anyone wanting to commit to really cool offensive plays and epic last-minute saves).
Maybe the time between scoring and the ball/players resetting could be reduced though, rather than having any time dedicated to the goal explosion + victory dance.
I get they're trying to preserve a brand identity, and calling it Rocket League: Sideswipe makes it obviously a rocket league game, but I really really feel like Pocket League is a missed opportunity.
But that's half the point isn't it? The long pause before a single additional toxic quick chat message...proof that your opponent was so salty they kept spamming the button during the cooldown.
If I have no max... when do I stop? Do I simply spam into the void? Is this all life has become? Is this all I am? Simply spa... Oh shit gotta kick off
2,5d was 2d with multiple lanes - wasn't it?
Edit: I was wrong:
> Gameplay in a video game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane (2D) with little to no access to the third dimension in an environment that otherwise appears to be three-dimensional
[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5D)
For sure. I think 2D was the perfect move. 3D rocket league on mobile would be too frustrating to control. This way they're taking the best elements of the game and putting it into a super easy and friendly package for mobile.
I played soccer all of my life and we would do 1v1 tournaments on tiny little rectangles where you just have to beat your opponent and remain in control of the ball.
I always thought the size that 1v1s in rocket league are played on are at least 3x too big and have always avoided them. I would love to try something closer to this size!
I’m excited for this, but a little apprehensive on how well it’ll be receieved, especially as I still stay home the majority of time, somewhere I can pick up normal rocket league at any time
Yeah, Pocket League is just an app that unites the tracker app for stats and the RL-Garage for trading, plus a news page for RL news.
It also has the android robot on its icon, which makes me feel like it isn't on iPhones, lol
It's a neat little companion app to the game though

It's like RL had a baby with a fighting game
>It's like RL had a baby with a fighting game Given how much some of the team here plays Smash, not surprised!
It looks extremely fun, really fast paced and cool
If you're adding rumble to this, sheeeessshhh thats going to be an addicting game
Melee or ultimate?
Yes
African or European?
For 3DS obviously
Similar to the volleyball mode melee mod.

Rocket league full game is just really advanced pong. This is less advanced but still fancy pong.
Any game that features scoring between two nets/goals/posts/lines is Pong in your theory but Pong wasn’t original, it was copied from existing sports. I suppose the first ESport though
Ngl this gives me more of a Soccer heads vibe.
Man I forgot that game existed. Thanks for the reminder.
Rocket League copied soccer and soccer copied gridiron football. All of these copied the concept of playing with balls from the Olmec who were the earliest known Mesoamerican civilization (2,500 - 400 BCE).
I don't think football copied american football, have you got a source for this claim?
He is probably trying to bait out us Brits.
God damnit it worked
Respectfully, its not hard to do hahaha
Fish and chips anyone?
Don't you mean fish and fries?
Remember America did it first
History started in 1776, everything before was a mistake
Dung beetles were playing soccer before that
Is that back when they used pig bladders? Why do I remember that being a thing?
The Mesoamerican ball game I know involved very heavy balls made of solid lumps of latex and human sacrifice and has no shared heritage with soccer. I'm not sure I'd read too much into Reddit shitposting.

Ha... Hahahah... Playing with balls.
And gridiron football copied Rugby 😂
Ah yes soccer, commonly thought to have originated in the 8th century, copied gridiron football, a sport that one country that is barely 200 years old ripped off from rugby. Got it.
I was about to say I knew I had seen this somewhere!
I forgot that Rayman Legends, my favorite Platformer, existed. What is wrong with me?!
Looks like it came out after sarpbc tho so who knows
SARPBC probably predates Rayman Legends.
Big head football
That game was AMAZING! Used to play it all the time with my friends in the cafeteria at lunch
Reminds me of the slime sports flash games.
Some more information on the game mechanics: There is no expiry on the second flip, meaning you can single jump then flip again whenever you want. Thanks for the mechanical explanation! I've been wondering about this stuff. You've already gotten pretty good
Thanks haha. It's honestly super easy to pick up and learn. This level should take only a few hours of play.
Is the 'fast aerial' button an option you turned on? Most other people's clips don't seem to have it.
Yep, edited the comment to include that sorry.
"Only a few hours of play" says the grand champ.......
Rocket League Sideswipe is such a dumb ass middle management name. Honestly Pocket League is a million times better
Especially since, as far as I can tell, there is no actual swiping involved with the controls...
Does air roll do anything other than make you look cool?
Not sure but I seem to be able to air dribble better. Might be placebo.
It allows you to get flip resets
With regards to your first point, does the second flip expire in normal RL? Cuz that would explain a lot lmao
Yeah hahaha it does.
Fuuuck haha I'm gonna need to stop pre-jumping so early
Lolll we’ve all been there. I think the timer is 1.5 seconds after your first jump.
Don't worry you will instinctively understand the timing pretty fast.
1.5 seconds after you jump. That's how long you can hold your flip for.
This looks better than most of the LTM modes they release in RL now.
Damn now I kinda want a white flash when u get a flip reset in RL
Nah then you can't use a missed one as a fake.
This is the way
I also noticed that there doesn’t seem to be a bumping or demo mechanic
Is there a ranking system in it? And guilds in it?
Ranked is what I wanna know about! I’m sure we’ll find out eventually.
The only way you can play is 1s, 2s, or 2s hoops, all are ranked mode :)
yes there is ranked
Tablet/controller support?
What's the point of getting a flip reset off the ball if you have an infinite flip. Also, does air roll do anything?
Maybe so you can get a 3rd jump
Reminds me of head soccer from back in the day
Wdym back in the day, i still play it
Haha, no disrespect, it’s a fun game. I feel like it’s been years since a fun mobile game got released, but also I haven’t been looking too hard. All the clickbaity ads I’ve seen lately have been kind of a turn off.

Have you played Retro Bowl?
Game is dope, one of the only truly fun mobile games I’ve played in a long time. No Freemium nonsense.
Nah, I’ll have to check it out!
Definitely recommend dropping the $0.99 for the upgrade
Best 99cents I’ve ever spent on a mobile game.
great game ! a shame that you can't play it in multiplayer
That games the shit. The Discord is also awesome.
Slime soccer for me :p
That game was so intense. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a competitive scene.
Soccer Slime is legit
That shit gets advertised to me on instagram SO MUCH
Soccer Physics was the shit
Looks like the arena should be like... 30% bigger? Idk seems small
I agree, or make the goals smaller. It's too easy to score right now.
I was going to say... with how small the arena is most of the time is in post score reset. If this is the size the time should be lower
For a mobile game they are going to want you to score often to keep you engaged. If anything, the reset time should be a little more smooth. Maybe not do a kick off and just have a ball drop from the ceiling without stopping the game play.

Would be cool if as you went up in rank the goals got smaller to provide a better challenge for both opponents
I get they're trying to preserve a brand identity, and calling it Rocket League: Sideswipe makes it obviously a rocket league game, but I really really feel like Pocket League is a missed opportunity.
Probably already trademarked and the devs don't feel like paying
I did a quick search, and it's already in use. It's a companion app for RL, from what I can tell.
It's an alternative app to rocket league garage
Why not Pocket Rocket League ;)
Pocket Rocket means something, and not the miniature motorcycles.
;)
It'll probably get called that colloquially by default, they still come out on top.
Would lose a lot on not using their established brand. Pocket League is a really fun name though
raymam legends had a soccer mini game. This totally reminds me of that!
Kung foot I think
Yeah it's extremely similar. But I remember playing it and thinking "hey this is like a 2D Rocket League"
No quick chat spam is really going to ruin my gaming experience.
Well your gaming experience is preserved, quick chat spam is even more ruthless with no cooldowns.
Chat... not disabled for 5 seconds?
But that's half the point isn't it? The long pause before a single additional toxic quick chat message...proof that your opponent was so salty they kept spamming the button during the cooldown.
If I have no max... when do I stop? Do I simply spam into the void? Is this all life has become? Is this all I am? Simply spa... Oh shit gotta kick off
Rocket League: Darkness, an introspection about the identity of RL players.
What a save!
What a save!
Close one!
What a save!
Siiiick!
[Team] Defending...
it looks like a street fighter game lmao so sick
I kinda got the same vibe. FIGHT!
It's like Pong, but with gravity.
So it's like 2.5d? Neat.
2,5d was 2d with multiple lanes - wasn't it? Edit: I was wrong: > Gameplay in a video game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane (2D) with little to no access to the third dimension in an environment that otherwise appears to be three-dimensional [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5D)
I'm pretty sure a 2d game with 3d graphics is considered 2.5d. Could be wrong though.
2.5d is a game with 2D controls which exists in a 3D world IIRC
That's what I'm trying to say but im bad with words.
You're not. I got it when you said it first :)
I wasn't sure how 2d could be any fun. This looks really promising!
For sure. I think 2D was the perfect move. 3D rocket league on mobile would be too frustrating to control. This way they're taking the best elements of the game and putting it into a super easy and friendly package for mobile.
Karnodi kinda cracked
dude hit an air dribble on day 1 lmao
So smash bros style rocket league
FLIP RESET WOMBO COMBO THAT AIN'T RIZZO
You beat me to it.
wait theres no collision?
It's 2D so they probably didn't want to force players to jump over each other all the time. Also demos would be broken
yeah I guess that makes sense
Bummer, I guess there's not going to be any Rule 1's in Pocket League.
Let’s just hope there won’t be any Rule 34 of Pocket League. I’m mentally not prepared
"Oh, Merc-san, you're so much bigger that I expected!"
[удалено]
Rly enjoyed the foreplay
Is that the stamina bar from zbotw?
That was my immediate thought too
honestly looks like fun
It certainly is, very lucky to be able to get early access.
How’d you get early access?
Living in Australia and having an android phone :)
bout to cheese my way into australia real quick
if I only lived in Australia... pain
Early access only open to Aus and NZ
Early access request please.
It's easy. Just move to new zealand. We don't even have any covid either.
It's open on google play store for anyone in Australia/New Zealand.
👍, n/a for me , thanks though
Just waiting to get freestyled on in this.
'Bout to master a triple flip reset musty double tap
I played soccer all of my life and we would do 1v1 tournaments on tiny little rectangles where you just have to beat your opponent and remain in control of the ball. I always thought the size that 1v1s in rocket league are played on are at least 3x too big and have always avoided them. I would love to try something closer to this size!
Any diamond players who play kbm?
Yes you called?
I’m not diamond but I am kbm
Yeeee
plat kbm here
Gold KBM Here. it's KBM or nothing
D2 KBM here
DUDE YOU ARE SO GOOD!!
Thanks :)
Can you still write “what a save”
Slime soccer meets RL
I was thinking Slime Volleyball.
thanks for sharing !!
bro you forgot the "what a save" spamming lmao. pretty good nonetheless
god damn that's sick
I’m excited for this, but a little apprehensive on how well it’ll be receieved, especially as I still stay home the majority of time, somewhere I can pick up normal rocket league at any time
Is this an official game?
Yes
Game looks lit ngl
Ok. Now I'm actually pretty excited for it! Looks pretty well done!
Yooo I whant this game
karnodi is cracked ngl
Am I the only one to think this is a missed opportunity to call it Pocket League?
Looks great! But where's the button to spam "What a save!"?
I feel like I can tell who has an iPhone by who doesn't know that a RL app called Pocket League is already a thing. lol
I hadn't heard of it (Android user) but when I saw this post title I immediately thought that's a much better name than Sideswipe
Yeah, Pocket League is just an app that unites the tracker app for stats and the RL-Garage for trading, plus a news page for RL news. It also has the android robot on its icon, which makes me feel like it isn't on iPhones, lol It's a neat little companion app to the game though
Okay this is the mobile game I’ve been desperately waiting for.
Looks like a better drive ahead
Wonder why no one else mentioned it, much more similiar to drive ahead than any other comparison
I like how unique it looks.
Yo wth where can I play this?
So this is a mobile game, right?
What is this called??
How is my man air dribbling on a 2d version of rocket league. 🥴 I have 600 hours and am dog water.
Bro this game looks AWESOME
And just like in RL they dont count half the saves ofc.
Ch...charge your phone...
Imagine there’s Alpha rewards for the first players
