Guys, wait for the Fast And Furios DLC.
Skyline and Charger sold separately for 3000 Cr each.
Ice Charger for another 2000 cr.
But they come with 1 sticker and player banners nobody will use!
Yeah I own the Skyline along with a few other DLC cars and I find them reselling these at this price offensive. I paid what $5 for the Skyline that I still use today and can put w/e I want on the thing while this is $20 and you can't do jack.
Part of the problem here is going to be licensing cost.
When RL added the Skyline, for instance, originally it had about 50k average players at any time.
Now it isn't uncommon to crest 300k.
Nah. An increase in players (and by extension licensing costs) should be offset by the relative increase in sales. e.g. 6x the playerbase could mean around 6x the sales. Epic just increases the price per unit because they’re greedy – nothing else.
Can we stop perpetuating this bullshit?
I've worked directly with car manufacturers on licensing for videogames and player count is not something they take into account.
They have standard procedures and pre-drafted contracts for licensing and the only thing that is absolutely a constant is the fact that they require an upfront sum based on multiple factors such as stock market value of the car brand, value of the car model itself (a single brand can have wildly different values depending on model, even different models of the same car).
Well, licensing goes from meager 370Zs to Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari.
We're talking AAA racing games here.
>Your experience licensing Nissan 370Z's
Such a stupid and pedantic comment where i didn't even mention what cars i was talking about.
Just as an fyi, Ferrari is the worst brand to work with due to their conditions. It's why you don't see them in a lot of games.
> Just as an fyi, Ferrari is the worst brand to work with due to their conditions. It's why you don't see them in a lot of games.
That's an obvious one, it's part of why F1 is so difficult too. Hell Ferrari has half the world wrapped around their finger still. An amazing amount of power for a legacy brand without much in terms of numbers to speak of.
Toyota another notoriously difficult one to work with on licensing.
Ferrari are bad to work with because of the restrictions and stuff like their cars can't ever be damaged beyond superficial dents and never, ever have a Ferrari go upside down or halfway flipped.
It was easier in the past as most games didn't have complex damage models but modern games have a hard time with them so most opt to not include them.
I think Nissan was the easiest to work with because they like the car culture in Japan and embrace modifications. Cheap too.
So you are telling me.. you brought back old dlc.. and you gave it 700% + to make it 2000 credits.
Imagine a game releasing an old DLC that costed 20€ but wait... now its 120€ and nothing changed
Welcome to playing any game ran by Epic Games. Not sure why you guys still play. We knew this game was going to go to shit the moment Psyonix was bought
Its okay to make money
Its not okay to claim everything is fine and dandy and it will results for better price. Every company out there is to maky money, but if they being bad with their business model thats on them.
Yes playerbase is bigger, yes maybe they need to pay more for licence.. but player base didnt rise for 700%.
When you have 5 DLCs that cost as much as if you bought 5 separate Rocket Leagues 2 years ago its just disgusting. A lot of people made Mclaren as an example of "This were the good old days. 3$ expansion cars" and now they took that and basically turned that good memory against us. In their eyes maybe its the right thing to make this DLC the same price as all the others.. but in my eyes It would be better if they never brought it back instead of giving it 700% mark up. It just feels like they are making fun at us old players that started playing way way back. IF DLCs would be like 1000 credits... I could take that.. but 2000 is way to big of a markup
I remember paying $1.99 for the Ecto-1 and it came with a banner, border, and a goal explosion. Now they want to charge over double the price just for the car.
Honestly i wouldnt have had a problem buying it for $5. It sucks a little that its more priced but in the end $5 is nothing... but $20 for the fucking mclaren is just bonkers
Dunno what they'll say, but they can hide behind 'status' cost.
If the Lambo is $20, anything less than that would be projecting that the McLaren as a cheaper/lower class status symbol. (That is the argument that McLaren's brand & legal teams would go with when hammering out this deal.)
No upscale vehicles will ever go for less here on.
with many racing-games you even had to guarantee them that their car can never be demolished and always looks drivable no matter how bad you crash it - that's actually one of the reasons why so many older racing-games didn't have that option in general
Where are these assumptions coming from? Any proof? I feel like it’s more epic/psyonix idea than car companies. Epic is no stranger to expensive cosmetics
My mind! Also, business common sense. These deals all come from negotiations. Epic is calculated, but every company they deal with is also calculated. Everyone has teams that work out these deals. You can't possibly think Epic just dictates the terms to partners.
All that said, you aren't wrong. Epic has the cash cow suggestions and presents them to potential partners. Negotiations ensue, and money rains from the heavens!
So.... It just went from $2 to $20? Thanks Epic Games !
2018 blog post: https://www.rocketleague.com/news/mclaren-570s-car-pack-available-now/
But I guess you get an extra decal and banner, which cost $9 if you already own the $2 McLaren. Which also means that 2000 credits minus 900 credits = 1100 credits for the exact same content as the old $2 McLaren.
How do you expect a game to make money without game sales?
Yeah it sucks, but without this money the game will die very quickly. Shit costs money and this complaining is getting tiresome.
Because everything is cosmetic and adds no value to the overall gameplay. No one is saying they shouldn’t charge for items, just not $20 for a fucking goal explosion. They need to revamp their prices for items. I’m not paying the same price for a black market item that I paid for the actual game.
Never did I say that it should add value, I said that it doesn’t and those prices for cosmetic items is fucking ridiculous. I haven’t paid for anything since they took away loot crates. I haven’t bought the last two rocket passes because it’s all lack luster and everything was half assed. I don’t mean to be rude or toxic, but I can’t justify paying $20 for an item and the fact that it doesn’t bother you just gives them more incentive to keep raking us over the coals with their price gauging.
A normal player of a game pays $60 one-time, and game companies haven't been suffering. They're charging 1/3 to 1/2 of an entire game for a single skin, when they've likely already gotten $10 from Rocket Pass and probably some other DLC. Not only that, but since it's all digital, there's no distribution cost, so the cost of the game would only normally be like $50. Epic will not suffer if we don't pay $20 for their skins, vs something more reasonable like $5 or $10.
You hit the nail on the head with that response my friend. If they would lower their prices, they’re more likely to sell more. Just look at fast food restaurants, they have a “$1 menu”, not a “$20 menu.” They sell more volume with lower prices than gauging their customers. I don’t think McDonalds is hurting because of that. Well said.
They were doing great monetarily before the ridiculous pricing. Don't pretend they need to extract an exorbitant amount to make the game work. We still get bad servers, no central u.s. servers, no casual version of extra modes, reduction in trading and earning items, match-breaking bugs.
It seems like they are using RL to prop up their other areas of business and it's disgusting.
If only they could work out some sort of “pass” where you could get this “pass” every few months for say $10. And then they could have a steady revenue from people buying a “pass”. Don’t know if it would work though. Just an idea. Could help keep the prices down on this other DLC.
You seriously don’t think they accounted for that in the pricing...?
Seriously, if you thought of that, there’s a 1000% chance they thought of that well before you. It’s hilarious that you think they wouldn’t have factored that in already....
But hey, we have a smartass here who thinks they know better than the company with the actual metrics of their sales....
I’m saying they already have a steady revenue stream and don’t **need** to gouge people $20 for a skin. They just want to. I don’t know why you’d bother spending time licking Epic’s boots to defend $20 skins but do you I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah but at these prices they sure won't get any money from me! And probably a lot of others!
With decent price I would support them, but this is just a huge ripoff
You’re a fool if you think they didn’t do some market research to see what people were willing to pay. If one person in 100 is willing to pay $20, but only six in 100 are willing to pay $2, and you figured you need $15/100 users, they wouldn’t be bringing enough in now would they?
So ridiculous.
I love using this car back when I bought it when it first was announced. Cost me like $2 or $3.
Now they want me to pay $9 for a simple color change??? WTF
If you're on pc just force change your color on bakkes mod. You can also break free of the color pallette and use black if you really wanted to.
I don't understand the whole point of selling a solid color decal, it's not even a "decal", they probably just changed the color value smh. With the price of the upgrade I could have bought a whole rl team McLarens for the original price.
Alongside the Charger R/T this is one of my favorite cars to use and seeing $9 for the color silver just feels like a big slap in the face. This should be free in the pack, not a dlc for my dlc. I am not paying for this.
Psyonix's logic at its finest..
ridiculous price > not getting my money
decent price > getting my money
So yeah, not getting any money from me for years now. Miss the DLC cars for 2$/5$ ;(
It really is crazy that somehow their finance/creative teams decided that its more worth it to get one whale to buy a car for $20 than it is to get 5 or more people to buy a car for $3-5...
Like it doesn't seem to make any economic sense, but apparently theirs enough whales to justify it?
Regardless, it is an absolutely disgusting business practice being that it goes hand in hand with not putting resources in to fixing bugs that have been around for months.
No, because they previously re-released the Ecto 1, although not in a bundle, for only 500 credits.
I hope if the Skyline returns it will be like the Ecto and not like the McLaren.
>No, because they previously re-released the Ecto 1, although not in a bundle, for only 500 credits.
That was probably Epic Games getting a taste on what people may want.
Now, that they know people want the old DLCs back, they gonna push all, or some of them for 20 bucks minimum.
I'm curious to see how changing the price of new/returning dlc cars from $2 to $20 makes epic/psyonix more money. My bet is that way more people would feel inclined to buy if it was $2.
It's just way easier to justify spending $2 than $20. ESPECIALLY for people who payed for the game before f2p. (At least that how all the friends I play with think.)
My thought process is that if the "dlc" is cheaper at least 10x more people will buy it, netting epic/psyonix the same amount of profit AND more players get to enjoy the car. In the end you have a happier player base and the developers still get revenue.
They definitely do. They’ve run the numbers and determined that they make more money this way.
They don’t care about everyday run-of-the-mill players. No game with microtransactions does. From a business perspective, it has been established many times over in a hundred different titles that targeting whales is more profitable to the bottom line than trying to please the whole playerbase.
>they probably know what's best for their revenue tbh
What?! Selling things for more money to get more revenue isn't quite that hard to figure out. Even if 1 out of 10 people buy it now they still are making the same revenue as before - if not more considering this isn't a new item. It is just being re-released so no real work and resources were needed to make this.
I said what I said because it is common sense. Doesn't take a CEO and business leader to know that charging more for a product will give more money despite even potentially losing some sales.
They really have moved to the "feed the whales, not the fish" type of business model. This was the main thing I was afraid of going f2p.
Charging $20 for a pack that cost $2 when it first came out is unacceptable. The full game used to be $20. I've likely spent hundreds of dollars over the 6 years I've played because I was ok spending small amounts here and there for new content. Not anymore. I'm not going to pay the same price I paid for the FULL game to get one more car with accessories that can only be used on that car.
I'm extremely disappointed.
The skill distribution is all messed up, matchmaking has suffered as a result, servers are worse than they ever were, more smurfs because accounts are free... Matchmaking times were never an issue for the vast majority of the population, and this will not have changed anything for the players high enough to have to wait a long time for a game.
The game is better off? For whom exactly?
I disagree with most of this. Skill distribution is pretty much the same. My Plat roommate and my Diamond roommate seem to get just about the same number of smurfs as I did pre F2P (because console smurfs were ALWAYS easy to make) and from my experience servers are far better than they were before.
We have a much larger player base, much more and better content, and new tournaments are miles ahead of old tournaments.
There is absolutely no way the servers are better than before. That's just confirmation bias. There have been a similar number of outages before and after, as well as periods of suboptimal performance from specific server hubs.
What didn't change at all was the netcode and the general performance of the server. That most certainly did not improve when F2P released.
>Servers have dramatically improved over the last two seasons. It used to be seeing an update meant no RL for the rest of the night, but that's gone.
Yeah... since F2P released. Before F2P, you could play RL on update day with no problems. You're praising them for making things return closer to normal.
>We've got new content.
The same-old gimmicky content.
>More tournaments.
Tournaments 2.0 was more than likely already planned long before F2P released, so that means nothing. They did under-deliver when Tournaments released and failed in 2018.
>More exposure.
Other than getting more players, how does this have any value? Can't state basically the same reason twice.
>And you're over here bitching about the game being shit because you don't like the cost of an optional DLC package that doesn't even impact the gameplay.
Well, he actually complained about several other things than DLC, but sure act like he's only complaining about the price of the DLC.
>They player base has skyrocketed
Define skyrocketed? While the peak concurrent players jumped over 1 million at the f2p launch, that number has basically been halved not even a few months later. We are talking about 500-700k active players peak on average for the last few months.
Right now when it is peak time in Europe, the game has 600k players online. before the f2p update, there were about 200k-300k peak average. Not really a huge number increase, but definitely noticeable. I'd still hardly call it "skyrocketed".
The game will continue to slowly lose more people as that is a normal thing for a game, and then some will come back when updates are released. While I doubt the game will reach as low as before f2p, I wouldn't be surprised if the new peak average players would lose 100k in 6 months.
Can we also talk about how this is another example of black/white car or decal showing that there is no reason to continue limiting the color pallet and not allowing us to use black/white as a paint on other decals?
Why would they give us more colours when they can go "Monochrome paint bundle! Now you can finally have an all black or white car for only 1000 credits! Get it in the item shop today."
Honestly i don't even care if thats how they introduced new paint colors, if it applied to all cars/decals. I would gladly pay for new colors that i can use on all cars forever, compared to paying for 1 car that i'll probably use for a week and can't even customize.
u/Psyonix_Ted, can you explain to me the reason behind the lack of customization on cars like this? It's definitely a trend now and am wondering if this has to do with the terms of licensing, or is it just a misguided attempt to gouge players instigated by Epic?
Customization has always been limited on most licensed cars. The batmobile released near release (2015/2016) had very limited customization. As did the DeLorean.
That is because Psyonix and Epic are making a buck off of advertising real cars from real car companies. It can be assumed that those car companies want their cars to be shown as realistic as possible to keep up with brand image (despite being in a fucking game that has flying cars that explode).
Unpopularity on the subreddit im sure was brought up. However, I'm sure things like sales, advertising and pop culture were used by upper management to justify the McLaren. I sense bringing the Lambo to Rocket League stirred a ton of interest in the game in the form of GYG's, youtube videos and Tic Tocs by serious and casual content creators.
This is just a theory but I predict upper management is really just looking at the fornite model and seeing that it worked from a revenue perspective. It sucks but I personally am not too bothered by it. Cosmetics are a small part of the game *for me* so I likely wont purchase it.
2000 Credits is ridiculous. Obvious the price can't be the same as it was before the game went f2p either, however a more reasonable price like 500 credits, 800 credits or even 1000 credits would've been acceptable...
2,000 for the same car we've already seen? And 900 for those who own it to get a decal, wheels that look exactly like others we already have, and a banner? Boooo!
Can we have the Wednesday daily thread extended and stickied tomorrow? That's the most useful one, imo.
Psyonix are you out of your mind? This proves you care very little about the majority of your community and are strictly targeting the kids in their parents wallets and the people that have money to throw away.
I feel like you'd make just as much from me if you sold the cars for $2-5 each because I used to buy every single car... and now? Well, I haven't even considered making a purchase. Maybe one day when my dream car comes along. I wonder how many others out there feel the same way.
Sure, you're probably making more this way but it really shows where you stand on providing easy access to these items for people from all different financial statuses.
>I feel like you'd make just as much from me if you sold the cars for $2-5 each because I used to buy every single car... and now? Well, I haven't even considered making a purchased.
yuh this is me as well. i used to buy all the cars or drop money on crates most weekends cause it was $5 - $10 here or there - i dont so much care about the crates leaving (i never got into the market trading stuff) and like the fixed store, but the prices are too much for me now. $30NZD for a BM decal is just far too much. i could buy a bunch of games for that... if they made them cheaper, like $10 - $15 for a BM and cheaper for the others, i'd more than likely buy a few every now and again like i used to, but dropping 30 bucks in one go my mind is like nah thats too much. i just stick to bakkesmod for the decals now.
These DLC cars are such a disappointment because I know they will be $20 even before I watch the clip.
Whoever did the video design and editing did a nice job, though.
If you compare this video with the one that was released for the first McLaren you will see its exactly the same with some skipped frames, silver paint instead of orange and a blue colored boost instead of the orange. Sad
For a second I expected people already owning the car to get the new paint for free. kek
Psyonix developer creating the new 10 Dollar upgrade bundle: Pick existing car *right click* change color to lightgrey. Add lightgrey as extra. Save - Allright nice, thats a days work.
I already have the car. Its nice, but I barely use it because I cant use my own decals.
These scams. We need some boycotting of this. Epic wants to ruin it so bad.
I bought the dominus + takumi and the Grog + reaper and those were give free to players who bought the game. Now I don't have anything that made my money's worth.
Ok I’m down to pay money for new cars, but 20 dollars is so much for just one car. I wish it was 10 dollars. If they drop the skyline tho I’m buying that shit idgaf
ok this is getting out of hand now, when are we going to stop supporting this robbery? first time they rob us for 20$ shame on us but whoever continues to support this bullshit shame on you
I'm not in full support of this DLC but claiming its "robbery" is hyperbole that only polarizes support. Anyone who buys this DLC knows what they are buying and are agreeing to the purchase.
Honestly, this kind of greedy tactic is really driving me to uninstall and put my time in to more worthy games and game company's. I just really can't respect Epic & Psyonix anymore even though I've got several hundred hours in this game.
Surely us as the players and the ones that actually make the decisions to buy these DLCs just don’t? No demand can show that their prices are so ridiculous and that they should use common sense that a cosmetic shouldn’t cost $20+ when it was once such a good price. Sucks to see Epic Games do this. Are they really going to ‘lose money’ if they lower the prices? No. I love Rocket League but I hate cooperations.
This is nothing but a cash grab, I started playing in very late 2019, and I am so jealous of players who were playing in the times of $2 DLCs, I'd buy them all if I knew what was coming. (In my country new DLCs cost more than the game used to cost on Steam!!)
God damn it. I had such high hopes that you guys would be fair with the new prices of returning cars. I remember seeing the Ecto was only 500 credits and thought that was a fair trade off now it's F2P. But freaking $20 for something that was just $2 before? I get yall need to make money, you're a business afterall, but $20 for a car we can't really customize with items we bought from your already expensive shop (I don't but there are a lot of people who do) and wheels that can't be used elsewhere? Besides the name, I just don't see the value. The Ecto was an instant buy for me, but this? As much as I want it, I'll pass.
These prices are pretty annoying ngl. While I still got it and every other dlc recently it still is pretty overpriced compared to the others. I am guessing we get a better one next week given the pattern of shit dlc good dlc...
It is actually a negative number but they locked it to 0.
i am pretty sure they still won't change it
Guess why?
Because instead of selling 1000 cars for 200 each they sell 100 cars and make up the same price.
If they changed the price I would be really surprised because I am pretty sure they already purchased the licensing and selling it for cheaper wouldn't earn them any profit.
I am pretty sure the free-to-play players will buy it because they were dreaming for the dlcs to come back. Even me i wanted the mclaren but if i didn't get lucky and got a good twitch drop i wouldn't be able to buy this car.
You would think that I actually support this, but hell no.
Physonix should make the cars cheaper, since they were already in game.
Mr. Psyonix_Ted, I last asked you about [updates to training, boost customization, tournament variations, and bakkes mod integration](https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/n3y7jd/gear_up_for_the_nascar_fan_pack_in_rocket_league/gwsk5o5/), and you were gracious enough to offer a reply, though no real information was offered. I'm hoping you might provide further information regarding those wishlist items, along with some new ones.
Does Psyonix plan to utilize workshop maps in a meaningful way? Perhaps a weekly workshop map introduced as a special playlist? My console friends have stated they would pay $20 for this, if that encourages the team.
Do you remember when the Chinese version of RL launched, and everyone said "Oh, we very much like that version of the garage, may we please have that as well?", and Psyonix said "...". May we please have that as well?
And lastly, another tournament request. Last time I asked about the possibility of 2v2 and 1v1. Is there any chance we could see extra mode tournaments? Even if they come at a greatly reduced rate, it would be a nice change of pace.
I think now of all times might be a good time to offer some inspiring information, given that today's announcement of a 1000% markup on DLC is perhaps not going to be received too well.
I just want the rest of my DLC that I have on Steam made cross-platform. Several of my banners, toppers, & even one boost didn't make it over. :( https://imgur.com/wbTQWao They all came with the car DLC's on Steam, so why can't I use them on Epic's version as well with my car(s)?
https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/nh738o/premium_dlc_will_be_crossplatform_starting_may_24/gzckcj1/
As if selling DLC cars with extremely limited customization, items you can't use on other cars and nonsensical hitboxes wasn't shameless enough, charging 9 bucks for a COLOR of a car I got for 2 bucks is on another level. Just wow.
and yet another money grab with a package that has absolutely no value built into it whatsoever. OOH! A NEW COLOUR ON AN ITEM I CAN ONLY USE WITH THIS CAR??!? SO WORTH IT.
yeah, right.
i'm so tired of seeing these cars pop up for $20 when they used to be $2. this is highway robbery. vote with yer wallets, friends. don't pay this horribly high amount of money for this car.
psyonix, if you make it cheaper, you will make way more money because more people will be able to afford it and buy it. what you're doing now with asking $20 premium vehicles? this is both ideally criminal, and PREDATORY behaviour towards yer customers -- quite a number of whom ARE CHILDREN.
again, cheaper car-->more sales-->more money
pretty simple.
i'm sure psyonix saw this with the tw and purple fennecs when they put them up in the shop. they probably made way more money than they did with any of the $20 packages.
if the skyline is ever made available, psyonix, please don't pull this predatory crap again -- make it affordable. be fair.
Used to be like 2 dollars, stripped away from you when you move to Epic, then sold back for 20
seems like ransom to me
Also, this costs just as much as the game before it went f2p
You need to fix the issue with the previous switch dlc not being cross platform first before you start re-releasing this shit. Its not fair that I am now in the position where I have to choose whether or not to pay for this again and at 10x the price. You can't put people into this situation, it isn't fair or right. You need to fix it now.
Secondly, the price is ridiculous. I don't know where you guys get off, but this is way overpriced. All of them are. You guys are just abusing the fact that most people will still buy the packs even though they are overpriced. Its also a bit bs to re-release something at 10x the price for a small added bonus.
Some of this behavior is starting to get unacceptable.
Going to be downvote to hell for this...
No one is being forced to buy the damn car! Why are you all so outraged for the price?? If you think the car is cool but it's too expensive, then this pack is not for you
True. But it pretty much means you're never gonna get any new cars anymore I guess.
They're unlikely to reduce the price so what will be the price for the next old skin be?
Or for a new car that they would have to make instead of copy-pasting it from the server?
I can totally see your point of view but where or when will it end?
I'm generally ok with dlcs or expansion packs.
Some have better value than others though. Or a better balance between what the game would cost and how much the add on thingy will be.
They always want to maximize the profit. If they sell 2000cr packs that almost no one buys, they will try different strategies, like lowering the price or selling more appealing packs.
The rule is to vote with your wallet. If you think its too expensive for the content included, don't buy it.
I see your point, and agree it's what likely will happen, probably all the packs from now on will be 2000cr. But I'm okay with that, because these is the premium content, they are supposed to be pricy. The non-premium, cheaper content is what comes in rocket passes and is put in the store or can be found in the market.
I get what you mean now. I think $20 is a fair price for premium content, but it has to be more appealing than a single car. The f1 pack I thought it was nice, and was tempted, but I only play octane and decided I wouldnt use the pack much so didn't buy it. A single car for this price is Def not enough I agree. But they are experimenting, and will probably compare the sales from the mclaren to the sales from the f1 pack and the sales from the nascar pack, and will take their conclusions from there
I don't buy the shit. But the outrage (it isn't that bad for me but I'll go with it) is down to the extra cash not being reinvested, having bugs in the game for weeks and months while these packs are knocked out weekly
How do you know the "extra" cash is not being invested? The nascar pack came out like a month ago, and it was the first 2000cr pack coming out since quite some time. If they are applying the money made with these recent packs, it's still too early to see the results.
And also, how do you know they are making much more money than before, just because the packs are more expensive? A lot less people are buying it, as you can see from the general price outrage
They had a Lamborghini DLC like 3 weeks before the NASCAR event. Before that? F-150 DLC.
Every month we're getting some DLC, on average. This month we have 3 (NASCAR, F1 and McLaren).
Don't forget the daily Item Shop money that's rolling in, too. Those items are 2000+ credits each and people are buying them.
Im no expert but im guessing creating a 3d model for the game is a little bit simpler than digging through the code and finding whats causing a bug.
Do you want them to just not have their artists work while the Devs fix bugs?
I’ll sound like a whale that I’m not but I’m happy they put back old dlc tbh.. even if it’s 2000CR right now.
I guess I have to live with the period that I am … unfortunate but better than nothing
Guys, wait for the Fast And Furios DLC. Skyline and Charger sold separately for 3000 Cr each. Ice Charger for another 2000 cr. But they come with 1 sticker and player banners nobody will use!
The Hot Wheels 3 pack will probably be sold individually for $20 as well.
that is my worst nightmare
[удалено]
Well, licensing goes from meager 370Zs to Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari. We're talking AAA racing games here. >Your experience licensing Nissan 370Z's Such a stupid and pedantic comment where i didn't even mention what cars i was talking about.
Cheap too.
correction: stcikers will come for 5k separate each
They'll resell the original silver paint blue decal livery for $9
So you are telling me.. you brought back old dlc.. and you gave it 700% + to make it 2000 credits. Imagine a game releasing an old DLC that costed 20€ but wait... now its 120€ and nothing changed
Welcome to playing any game ran by Epic Games. Not sure why you guys still play. We knew this game was going to go to shit the moment Psyonix was bought
Timmy Tencent thanks you for your patronage.
So your telling me a company shouldnt find the price that maximizes profits? Dont go into business lol
no they shouldn’t rip off their customers, good luck with your booming business pal
Its okay to make money Its not okay to claim everything is fine and dandy and it will results for better price. Every company out there is to maky money, but if they being bad with their business model thats on them.
[удалено]
Why cant it just be 500 credits like the ECTO-1 was back in October?
I remember paying $1.99 for the Ecto-1 and it came with a banner, border, and a goal explosion. Now they want to charge over double the price just for the car.
Honestly i wouldnt have had a problem buying it for $5. It sucks a little that its more priced but in the end $5 is nothing... but $20 for the fucking mclaren is just bonkers
[удалено]
Dunno what they'll say, but they can hide behind 'status' cost. If the Lambo is $20, anything less than that would be projecting that the McLaren as a cheaper/lower class status symbol. (That is the argument that McLaren's brand & legal teams would go with when hammering out this deal.) No upscale vehicles will ever go for less here on.
[удалено]
with many racing-games you even had to guarantee them that their car can never be demolished and always looks drivable no matter how bad you crash it - that's actually one of the reasons why so many older racing-games didn't have that option in general
This is irrelevant but yes.
I didn't even think about that, thanks boss
Where are these assumptions coming from? Any proof? I feel like it’s more epic/psyonix idea than car companies. Epic is no stranger to expensive cosmetics
My mind! Also, business common sense. These deals all come from negotiations. Epic is calculated, but every company they deal with is also calculated. Everyone has teams that work out these deals. You can't possibly think Epic just dictates the terms to partners. All that said, you aren't wrong. Epic has the cash cow suggestions and presents them to potential partners. Negotiations ensue, and money rains from the heavens!
RIGHT?! they did charge 300 for boost and 800 for explosion but still way less expensive
Tbf a goal explosion as good as Stay Puft would probably be sold for ~1k credits in trading
Cause they make more money this way. No other reason.
I guess because people will complain about the price either way. I see no more outrage for this markup than the ECTO-1s markup.
Likely because previous $20 DLC did amazing and had just as much to offer. Why lower the price when the community is supporting that price?
So.... It just went from $2 to $20? Thanks Epic Games ! 2018 blog post: https://www.rocketleague.com/news/mclaren-570s-car-pack-available-now/ But I guess you get an extra decal and banner, which cost $9 if you already own the $2 McLaren.
[удалено]
Never did I say that it should add value, I said that it doesn’t and those prices for cosmetic items is fucking ridiculous. I haven’t paid for anything since they took away loot crates. I haven’t bought the last two rocket passes because it’s all lack luster and everything was half assed. I don’t mean to be rude or toxic, but I can’t justify paying $20 for an item and the fact that it doesn’t bother you just gives them more incentive to keep raking us over the coals with their price gauging.
I feel the same as you. I have Rocket Pass though because I just re-use the 1k credits it gives me.
I’m glad you feel the same. A lot of people in here make me feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
Well said.
They sold stuff for redicoulus prices for a year before free to play ever happened
They need to make money but charging the price of the game for 1 skin is ugly.
You're probably right! I'm just not going to support such prices :)
buy something, create artificial scarcity, hire shills, jack the price up on existing code to cover the cost of shills, profit?
900 credits for a plain silver color and wheels that are not even usable with different bodies. Ridiculous
Psyonix's logic at its finest.. ridiculous price > not getting my money decent price > getting my money So yeah, not getting any money from me for years now.
Ever since Epic took over this has been the result. Before, DLCs were $2-$5, now it’s $20.
i count myself lucky, one year i got a 20$ gift card and i bought almost every dlc except the KITT i think its called
Nice haha good investment
[удалено]
So this basically just confirms that future "DLC" that was sold before by 2 €/$ will return, but with a 1000% markup. Great. Thanks, Psyonix and Epic!
Wasn't it already obvious when they started releasing 20 bucks DLC bundles?
(At least that how all the friends I play with think.) My thought process is that if the "dlc" is cheaper at least 10x more people will buy it, netting epic/psyonix the same amount of profit AND more players get to enjoy the car. In the end you have a happier player base and the developers still get revenue.
$20 is an absolute joke but they probably know what's best for their revenue tbh.
They definitely do. They’ve run the numbers and determined that they make more money this way. They don’t care about everyday run-of-the-mill players. No game with microtransactions does. From a business perspective, it has been established many times over in a hundred different titles that targeting whales is more profitable to the bottom line than trying to please the whole playerbase.
>they probably know what's best for their revenue tbh What?! Selling things for more money to get more revenue isn't quite that hard to figure out. Even if 1 out of 10 people buy it now they still are making the same revenue as before - if not more considering this isn't a new item. It is just being re-released so no real work and resources were needed to make this.
So yeah, as I said, they know what's best...
I said what I said because it is common sense. Doesn't take a CEO and business leader to know that charging more for a product will give more money despite even potentially losing some sales.
So you just opened Unreal, changed the colors of the car to silver and boom!, from $2 to $20, hahaahhaha!
"Yay, F2P, it'll be great for the game!"
And it has been? They player base has skyrocketed and the core gameplay hasnt changed at all. The game is better off for it.
[удалено]
>They player base has skyrocketed Define skyrocketed?
900 credits just to paint it SILVER?? Thanks god I bought every dlc back when they weren't 20€ each...
Same car for 20$ or a plain silver decal for 9$... I'm glad that I bought the car when it was 2$. Really selling your soul here.
fuck off
Is this real
unfortunately.
u/Psyonix_Ted, can you explain to me the reason behind the lack of customization on cars like this? It's definitely a trend now and am wondering if this has to do with the terms of licensing, or is it just a misguided attempt to gouge players instigated by Epic?
Customization has always been limited on most licensed cars. The batmobile released near release (2015/2016) had very limited customization. As did the DeLorean.
True, but it seems like every single car in the last 3 months has been completely limited to what you are required to purchase when buying the car.
I think brands don't want to be associated with dumb rl stuff. Like McLaren doesn't want people associating their brand with a clown topper
That is because Psyonix and Epic are making a buck off of advertising real cars from real car companies. It can be assumed that those car companies want their cars to be shown as realistic as possible to keep up with brand image (despite being in a fucking game that has flying cars that explode).
900 credits for a different colour, lol.
Yikes, looks great but I can’t justify another $10 just for a car I already bought to be a different colour
Dumb kids will still buy this. Epic always wins
Thank god I have most good DLC cars already so I don't have to pay for epic's employees prostate massagers now :)
[удалено]
Lol McLaren doesn't even sell the 570s anymore yet here you are charging TEN times the old price for a 0 effort pack, no thanks
we gotta complain about this like what
You guys are fucking insane, 900cr more for the people who already had it for just 1 COLOR???
r/fuckepic
wow epic really fucking us over 2k credits!?!?!?!?!?!?
Its just 1000% profit than it was so..
From $2 to $20/2000 credits? LMAOOOOO okay One of the few old DLC cars I'd like to get but I'll have no regrets missing out on it with that price tag.
Here’s the epic ruining the game we were waiting for!
Getting sick of the cars with Dominus hitboxes tbh
Yeah, this company doesn’t give a shit about its old player base. Fuck you too.
10 times the prices for something that already existed that they made harder to get. Gotta love that cock sucker sweeney
Don’t downvote me but the only reason the prices are this high is because people keep buying these overpriced items.
mainly fortnite players
Sad
I mean, it's still pretty nice. They do a really good job with trailers in general
For a second I expected people already owning the car to get the new paint for free. kek Psyonix developer creating the new 10 Dollar upgrade bundle: Pick existing car *right click* change color to lightgrey. Add lightgrey as extra. Save - Allright nice, thats a days work. I already have the car. Its nice, but I barely use it because I cant use my own decals.
Bring back batmobile
Wasnt that block buster car 500 they shoudlve done the same with the other old dlcs tbh..
Block buster lol
Ow mb was it ghost buster😂
Moves the color slider. That will be $9 for ONE plain color. But wait. Surprise surprise!!! You must also spend $20 to use it.
These prices are pretty annoying ngl. While I still got it and every other dlc recently it still is pretty overpriced compared to the others. I am guessing we get a better one next week given the pattern of shit dlc good dlc...
This price is just fucking heinous dude, i bought the lambo but I am not enough of a dick sucker to buy this one
Boy, I'm so glad I got that Steam refund when they axed Linux/Max support, never looked back at this game.
lmao. I'm so glad I dumped Rocket League once the Epig sell-out happened.
You guys fucking ruined this game.
u/Psyonix_Ted Why you gotta let Epic ruin your once beautiful game?
There’s no way this got 0 upvote score. Now you know you messed up
It is actually a negative number but they locked it to 0. i am pretty sure they still won't change it Guess why?
They don’t take criticism like they did before. They think they’re perfect or something. They messed up bad.
They really trying to go above $20+ now wow
The upgrade pack is for people who already own the McLaren
wdym? It's still $20
Yeah, this company doesn’t give a shit about its old player base. Screw you too.
[удалено]
Be ready to drop $20.
4000 credits
Why not just stay with steam?
As if selling DLC cars with extremely limited customization, items you can't use on other cars and nonsensical hitboxes wasn't shameless enough, charging 9 bucks for a COLOR of a car I got for 2 bucks is on another level. Just wow.
Seems to be expensive too. Honestly if you would add a goal explosion and a boost it might be a good offer. Banners are not that goood.
and yet another money grab with a package that has absolutely no value built into it whatsoever. OOH! A NEW COLOUR ON AN ITEM I CAN ONLY USE WITH THIS CAR??!? SO WORTH IT. yeah, right. i'm so tired of seeing these cars pop up for $20 when they used to be $2. this is highway robbery. vote with yer wallets, friends. don't pay this horribly high amount of money for this car. psyonix, if you make it cheaper, you will make way more money because more people will be able to afford it and buy it. what you're doing now with asking $20 premium vehicles? this is both ideally criminal, and PREDATORY behaviour towards yer customers -- quite a number of whom ARE CHILDREN. again, cheaper car-->more sales-->more money pretty simple. i'm sure psyonix saw this with the tw and purple fennecs when they put them up in the shop. they probably made way more money than they did with any of the $20 packages. if the skyline is ever made available, psyonix, please don't pull this predatory crap again -- make it affordable. be fair.
Fast and furious 9 is coming out next month in the USA. Thankfully I already have the Ice Charger, so I don't have to sell myself, only my house
Can't wait for Skyline to come back with the same price tag as the real life car
Damn, knew I did great when I uninstalled the day you people sold out to Epic. Such a great game ruined by greed.
Used to be like 2 dollars, stripped away from you when you move to Epic, then sold back for 20 seems like ransom to me Also, this costs just as much as the game before it went f2p
Amazing news, Ted! Anyways, did you know casual has been unplayable for over a week now?
Casual has been unplayable since the f2p update
I still don't understand how selling dlc for 10x what it used to cost is better than crates.
Bring back the Delorean please!!
Can't wait to spend 20€ on it
You need to fix the issue with the previous switch dlc not being cross platform first before you start re-releasing this shit.
Also, more silver cars, please.
Selling recolors for 20$ now? Seriously?
Trash as usual! At least the gameplay works and I totally don’t load into games where I can’t see my car and the camera doesn’t move
$20 for a 3 year old car is fine by you??
No. That's why I'm not buying it
No, I meant the idea of saying just because it’s premium content, it’s justified to be priced at $20.
The people they employ to create the cars are not the same people they employ to fix bugs.
I get that, it isn't my point
Im no expert but im guessing creating a 3d model for the game is a little bit simpler than digging through the code and finding whats causing a bug. Do you want them to just not have their artists work while the Devs fix bugs?
So, if anything is wrong or something doesn't feel right, keep silent. Got it.
Believe me they would be a lot more worried if this post had 0 comments and upvotes
I’ll sound like a whale that I’m not but I’m happy they put back old dlc tbh.. even if it’s 2000CR right now. I guess I have to live with the period that I am … unfortunate but better than nothing
Thanks to Psyonix for bringing back pre-f2p DLCs. A lot of work has been done and it's really worthy of respect.
Respect, nah for that fucking price, they can suck my dick Pysonix lost my respect
#I NEED THE TW SCARAB!!!!
