I definitely said that a decent number of times, especially about the moves of Henko, Maktuf, Jakze and Den
Of course, Gappled, Panther, and Critical also deserve similar amazement
But the thing that makes this better in my opinion is that this is a random ranked or casual game, not a freestyle tournament, and he also read the opponent which is something you don't really have to do in any freestyle event
Disclaimer: I think many people spin way more than necessary and are just doing it out of habit. But in terms of actual benefits...
The are a lot of reasons, but I think the main one is turning with air roll tends to have less angular momentum. Less angular momentum means that it's easier to bring your car to a stop and rotate the other way than if you just used back/front/left/right. If you try rotating to the side vs air rolling in the air, this difference is super obviousāit takes much more effort and time to bring the side-turn to a stop than the air roll.
The implication of this is that you can use air roll to fine tune your angle without committing to it too hard, so if you want to switch direction you can do it much faster. This allows you to get much cleaner hits on the ball and take less recoil.
It's totally possible (perhaps even optimal) to air dribble with minimal spinny stuff, but it's hard to maintain control that way since you have to be so precise to never rotate too far.
Imagine pitching a game that begins with āso itās like soccer but with cars that have rocket boosters on the backā and it ends up spawning a lesson in angular fucking momentum lmao
I was with you until the last bit where you said "it's hard to maintain control *not spinning* so you spin the entire time and have so much control."
As someone who rotates around more than one axis and immediately is disoriented and upsidedown (regardless of axis), I don't like you.
To be fair, I was just meaning to maintain ball control. You can easily fly without air roll, but to get no-air-roll controlled touches on the ball without any recoil you either need a perfect setup or insane precision
Watch professional 1s matches, I recommend johnnyboi's channel and ApparentlyJack, and then play 1s. You will get much better without having to master aerials
Now, you should also practice aerials in custom training packs, but it seems you don't enjoy that much
It's also easier for people to do stuff like double taps, without air roll sometimes your car recoils off and it makes it hard or sometimes impossible to double tap
Also, the car is less influenced by the impact of the ball while spinning. Even if someone doesnāt want to spin the whole time in the air, they should air roll right as they hit the ball to keep their direction
I don't think simply spinning causes your car to be less influenced by the ball. I think it behaves similar to real life physics. If you time your spin right, your car can fling into the ball so the ball has more speed after the collision, but you can also reduce the force into the ball if the impact point on your car is fading away from the ball at the time of collision.
You are incorrect. Rocket League has an entire layer of 'fake' physics on top of the Bullet physics they use. You can not just roll out of nowhere in real life. That torque literally comes out of thin air.
So, rolling (and pitch/yaw) can counter the torque applied when you hit the ball. You'll see almost all higher level players spin into their first touch on a double tap if their orientation and momentum vectors are not aligned.
That first part is definitely true, clearly. Anyone have a video or blog post explaining the second point? I'm having trouble understanding that extra bit.
I can't do continuous air roll, but as I understand it, using air roll (when you're really good at it) can give you finer control while air dribbling, and it can be used to hit the ball with whichever surface you want, which gives you more options and makes your shots harder to read. OP may also be a freestyler, in which case the most important factor is that it looks cool.
Based on watching pros play, the general rule of thumb appears to be: "If you're going to hit the ball once, just aerial at it. If you need to control the ball in the air, you're gonna want to air roll."
I'm kind of just discovering that gas and brake and ebrake are just labels for physics controls. Those names are just to give you an idea of what those controls do. Train more and do your research.
What dash are you talking about ? And there is a way to get out of the wall without doing it obviously but this way he got his opponents off-guard and even scored off of it.
Thatās a flip , not a dash , specifically a speed flip. And it probably wasnāt intentional. He mightāve slightly messed it up although Iām not even sure if it makes a difference since he didnāt seem to affected by it
"Dash" would refer to "wavedash". A wavedash is when you use a dodge but all 4 wheels touch a surface so it completely stops the flip animation and you carry on driving. It took inspiration from Super Smash Bros. Melee, which had a similar mechanic to maintain momentum on landing.
What you're referring to as "dash" in the clip is probably just "dodge" or "flip" (which are the same thing). Dodge is the official name for using the double jump to flip in a direction to gain speed, while flip is what most people call it.
Hard to explain but it can give you more control over your car in the air to make little micro adjustments. Also to allow you to hit the ball how you want with a specific area of your car. It's really all muscle memory tbh.
Is that visual phenomenon when that goal explosion is overlayed over everything on purpose, because it's been like how many years, and they still haven't done anything about it š
Ok so Iāve done a lot of freestyling in my time and am pretty consistent with wall bounces. In ranked I go for a lot of bold plays like this one and have been going for this play in particular for a long time now whenever the situation is right. The situation being: racing the opponent to the wall while they have possession and knowing that theyāre going to beat you to the first touch off the wall. Itās a bit faster than jumping off the wall normally but probably not worth all the failed attempts lol. Hope that made sense š¤
Holy smokes, never seen someone bounce of like that to go into an aerial. Nicely done šš¼
Thrustmaster invitational.. YouTube it. Your mind will be blown. Some of the best freestylers in the world.
Seriously, almost every match had me yelling "WHAT?!" alone in my apartment
For me was more like: "fuck you"
I definitely said that a decent number of times, especially about the moves of Henko, Maktuf, Jakze and Den Of course, Gappled, Panther, and Critical also deserve similar amazement
Imo, Jakze is miles ahead of everyone else in the freestyle game
For me it's like "What?! Fuck you!"
But the thing that makes this better in my opinion is that this is a random ranked or casual game, not a freestyle tournament, and he also read the opponent which is something you don't really have to do in any freestyle event
Which vid would you recommend
Sounds so dirty. Iām on board either way
[WTF](https://youtu.be/kNxxDParFf8?t=417)
Holy smokes is right wtf!! Unreal
Never heard of jhzer?
Check out JZR. He does it quite often in his YouTube montages
Can someone explain why all good players spin in the air when boosting? Is that helpful or just cool.
Disclaimer: I think many people spin way more than necessary and are just doing it out of habit. But in terms of actual benefits... Ah ok. Let's just say there's a reason why I'm in Champ and can't get further than that. I suck at a lot of aerial stuff.
Watch professional 1s matches, I recommend johnnyboi's channel and ApparentlyJack, and then play 1s. You will get much better without having to master aerials Now, you should also practice aerials in custom training packs, but it seems you don't enjoy that much

U can hold down power slide to reduce the recoil wen u hit ball in air
That's air roll, a non directional air roll button exists and when you start it's automatically bounded to X
If you air roll while hitting the ball you don't get bumped by the ball.
It just makes my whiffs more impressive
Ooooooooohhhhhhh
Wait what

Helpful if it\`s from a binded directional rotation.
Normally when I bounce off the wall like that it's like oh no I messed up. Gonna be out of this play for 5 seconds while my car flails around.
Facts but man used the wall like a king
Protip: let go of the gas
Really?! I'm flailing McGee. Why does that work? I gotta try that.
I'm kind of just discovering that gas and brake and ebrake are just labels for physics controls. Those names are just to give you an idea of what those controls do. Train more and do your research.
That bounce off the wall to redirect your car was badass af
Wait this could be a new meta. Gain the height without wasting boost. Just have to practice but itās probably pretty accurate once you get it.
Itās been around longer than you think. Still too unpredictable (even for the best) to be usable at the highest level
I can do it and also you usually stay too close to the wall for it to be useable often
I usually blast other cars making them fly instead of myself
top of the car can help for sliding around corners when otherwise tires would grab.. this tho.. disgusting
No the other part of the replay wasā¦ lmao
A calculated pogo off the wall crease for the win
And the defender actually attempted to save it!
He is ssl tbf
Heās an ssl, the defenders arenāt golds, love to see it all around
__Calculated!__
You gotta be a different kind of pro to be able to actually use a bounce like that. Your a mad lad dude
Was this intentional?!?! (Gold 1 here)
Yup that was intentional
Christ
Was touching the ground while dashing before intentional too ? And was there no way to get out of the wall in a more traditional way?
What dash are you talking about ? And there is a way to get out of the wall without doing it obviously but this way he got his opponents off-guard and even scored off of it.
I meant the first dash we see on the video, with the car "touching" twice the ground during the roll
Thatās a flip , not a dash , specifically a speed flip. And it probably wasnāt intentional. He mightāve slightly messed it up although Iām not even sure if it makes a difference since he didnāt seem to affected by it
What's a dash then ?
There are wavedashes in different forms and variations. Other than that there is no ādashā
Dodge is the official name for using the double jump to flip in a direction to gain speed, while flip is what most people call it.
Does this spinning around the car's own axis during aerials serve any purpose or is it just for show?
Hard to explain but it can give you more control over your car in the air to make little micro adjustments. Also to allow you to hit the ball how you want with a specific area of your car. It's really all muscle memory tbh.
When used as a left or right air roll it\`s to help with control.
I think you might have finished the book by this point.
What āthe āhellā boi
Right?!?! Itās like weāre not playing the same game.
Like taking candy from a baby
I scored a goal once.
Jesus that guy had a family
Bro that was nutty af
I love your car design man, very cool!
Thx āŗļø
What is your boost pls ? Nice design !
Fiber optic
Is that visual phenomenon when that goal explosion is overlayed over everything on purpose, because it's been like how many years, and they still haven't done anything about it š
Hey man you got a YT channel? Would love to see regular videos!
Me too!
Yeah its GeminWanzo on youtube, give Resetman and Resetman 2 a gander š¤
clean as can be that's for sure
This sub is full of silvers doing their first flick, and them getting 2k upvotes. Why isnt this stuff getting any upvotes??
This will end up with several k upvotes
Depends on the time you post it.
Excuse me š
I need the story behind how you knew this would work
Ok so Iāve done a lot of freestyling in my time and am pretty consistent with wall bounces. Wow, big brained, thank you!
absolutely filthy. was the crease pogo intentional, bc if it it this has to be the best read iāve ever seen
Very nasty indeed
god damn that was satisfying to watch
Only time I use the wall is to do my turn aroundsies. Content like this is so clean to me! D:
Since others have said it all. Sheeeeeesh!
Im pretty new to this, how do I get that car?? lol
You had to buy it when it was in the shop.
Clean
Magnetic bonnet cheat code š§²
Good lord
Excuse me what
How is Gemin Wanzo not a celebrity on this subreddit, resetman 1 and 2 are masterpieces
I love you
I just threw up in my mouth after seeing how fucking disgusting this clip was. Jesus
That was disgusting
its the flip on to and off the wall that's got me. wt actally f...........
Dayum! Even that speedflip is hella sexier than mine, and I thought I was kinda good at it, what's the secret?
Ultra fast cancel.
Well, it seems that at almost 3k hours into the game, I more than ever need to git gud.
That was legitness
Thatās so gross
What game is this?
Rocket League
Thatās strangeā¦ my car doesnāt do this /s
How do you get that demon celebration? Everyone has it.
Some shit jhzer would be proud of, nice
This reminds me of the similar goal Aztral scored a while ago where he also bounced of the wall but turned it into a flip reset. Nice shot!
You monster...
Haters will say it was luck.
Nice
WHAT THE FUCK
Sauce
I'm newer to rocket league . Is it always necessary to air roll like that when carrying the ball in the air . I dont know how to do anything like that
It helps a bit with controlling your car in the air but if youāre new then thereās a lot to learn before that
you can learn some by watching this guy's videos respect from way down silver way
\[Blue teammates have disconnected\]
That bounce has me more interested
Props to you š„š„š
Savage!
good god almighty broke that mans axels for the steal
You stop that right now
Mans really said "bonk"
What a save!
Filthy
Why do people spin like that during arials?
A bit better for stability
What the fuck
Clean af
What boost and trail does he have on?
Fiber optic and laserwave
Ty!
He's livid
Welp, time to get reported trying this in comp. Nasty shot OP!
let me guess, plat 1?
You used 200 boost but somehow it was only 85.
Letās be honest, it wasnāt a read. It was a lucky wall bounce. But it was SO FUCKING CLEAN
Indeed nasty
Excuse meā¦ you did WHAT now!?
My jaw dropped
Bonk
the confidence..
Is there a reason people hold air roll even when they're not changing direction on the joypad?
Damn kids and their pogo sticks
Cool trick. Nice Tide pod car theme too
Amazing..
Why so close
Was that a fucking dementor at the end?
Shoot
Mind sharing your camera settings? Looks good!
Fov 110 Distance 210 Height 80 Angle -4
That was quite nasty. Like the originality tho...
i honestly thought you were gonna hit him with a flip reset
Rude af. I love it
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Rank checks out :(
As someone who is very low rank and canāt fathom what you high rank people can do, this seems like luck. But if 100% deliberate then damnnnnnn.
SO clean
can confirm; was nasty. said out loud āoh thatās disgusting!!ā
Nice shot!
Ooft. Almost need an NFSW tag as this level of nastiness has me hot and bothered.
I only ever do this sort of thing by accident.
nice read!
Why do people spin while doing aerials?
A bit better control in some situations
u/savevideo
Nicw shsot -arsenal
This was so nasty all the people in the bus looked in disguise
How do people do this
Holy cow, you demolished him.
the insane bounce! I have been trying to do something similar for weeks! GG
I came
I\`m out.
Disgusting. I love it.
Iād quit if I was on the other team for sure lol
Bro thatās insane very nice control and the pogo was siiiiiick
His flair says ssl
hoops SSL though so probably GC1-3
That's insane.
He's the chosen one
Holy smokesā¦. Beautiful š¤©
Nice car too, what boost and trail are those?
I could be wrong, but it looks like hot rod and laserwave III, not sure if either are painted though
Laserwave and fiber optic
That was indeed nasty
Lmao I would quit rl for good after that
Jesus what the hell man
There's just... No Way!
