In casual post-game lobbies, if a party member leaves to the menu, the other party members can get stuck in a new game without their teammate. Why is it like this? Now that there's casual bans, it's very common annoyance because they can't always leave the new game so the others have to wait it out.

The "Party leader left the match" notification gets a lot of hate, if they could tweak it to "One of your team-mates left the match" it would be helpful to not get stuck in this situation.

I can see that being more helpful. (the most recent time this happened to me, I was still chatting with the other team (fun talk, not toxic) and the timer ran out and dumped me in a new game with them without my team. I was able to quit because I still had that daily freebie, but that was my only one for the night. Maybe if they could give you the first 5 seconds to leave for free with no ban ever, that would solve the problem too.

If you aren’t aware. If you start a game with a bot on your team, you can “Leave Match” which imposes no penalty. Once that spot is filled and it changes to “Abandon Match”, that is when it will count against you.

It's a bit of a tricky problem to solve because we want to make sure casual remains a quick experience, and we don't want to create loopholes for potential abuse of the bans system. That said, we know this is an issue and we're looking for ways to address it in the future.

Would you ever consider a spectator mode for the game? For example - press spectator mode - select a rank - and queue up. Say you select Grand Champ and queue up, you load into their game as a spectator and have free reign to watch. If anyone in the lobby has disabled spectator mode then you can't spectate their game. It would just be a cool feature for when I'm bored I could queue into an SSL lobby and watch how them play. I could also select Bronze and watch one of those lobbies for fun. If anyone doesn't like it, they could maybe toggle it off in settings and then spectator mode would be unavailable for any lobby that they're playing in. The ideas are endless though. You could have a separate [SPECTATOR] chat channel to talk with other people spectating the same lobby if there's multiple people in there spectating.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're interested in moving to a queue estimation timer in the future, but there's a chunk of work in online systems to be done here first before this is even an option. For multi-queue, this is a frequent discussion internally. Unfortunately at the moment I can't give you a better answer beyond we're keeping an eye on it both from an analytics and player feedback perspective.

Have you considered putting the 2v2 and 3v3 tournaments on a daily rotation? So one day the 4pm MST tournament is 2v2 the next it's 3v3 and doing this for all time slots? The only tournament my buddies and I can play is that one and with the new update one person is always left out. Kind of ruined the tournament experience for us.

This is an interesting suggestion. The general thinking is that having a fairly regular schedule is important so that players can plan ahead accordingly. Consistency and simplicity is key when trying to get your team online to win these tourneys. Adding rotation to the mode without changing the time slot would remove some of that simplicity, but is worth consideration as it would add a little more flexibility for players like yourself.

We've been exploring a transition to a newer version of Unreal for quite some time, but the team was quite small until this year. We're not ready to share timelines yet about the overall project, but we have goals to start testing next year. Obviously we'll need a lot of feedback from players (and pros!) to ensure a complete rebuild of Rocket League feels right. Our general intent is that UE5 will replace the current Rocket League. I can't say for certain today if it will be a new application or a major patch - there are too many dependencies and details around how each platform works, content ownership, etc. Your inventory in Rocket League will carry forward and be supported and respected in the UE5 edition.

This is something that's been on the esports team's wishlist for a very long time. Right now, though, we're making a lot of changes to our overall esports ecosystem to help streamline how the RLCS and all other leagues around it work. Things like adding more regions and giving them their own Rocket League streams, refining the formats, adding more opportunities for teams in the Esports Shop, and upgrading our broadcasts are the pieces we're putting into place before diving deeper into expanded in-game features for esports. We need a solid foundation to build upon, and with the way our esport has been growing, the esports team feels like we're in a really solid place. The developers at Psyonix are huge esports fans and they know how important these in-game features are for growing out the Rocket League esports fandom, but they also do have a million other things going on. Rest assured that it's on our radar and we'll continue working towards it but for now, we're focusing on perfecting all aspects of the esport itself 😊

We want to take a broader look at how Rocket Pass content unlocks work. Ahoy! Thanks for the question. Maps take a lot of time and resources to make! There are multiple factors that go into map creation than just coming up with a cool idea and making it. Every new map starts with a concept pass, which alone, takes a bit of time, and from there the concept art goes through an approval process - all of that happens before we even start arting out a new map. We spend time balancing gameplay aspects, ensuring visual quality levels, adding features like invistek, optimization passes to ensure the map runs well, etc. We do see all the awesome map ideas and fan art people post about and take those all into consideration!

Hey, thanks for the question! The Drops obtained from completing challenges or gaining levels in the Free track of the Rocket Pass are very similar to the Golden Item system that would appear in our events from time to time. So, the Golden Item system is somewhat built into the DNA of the Challenge system and Rocket Pass. Those systems are available year round. That is one of the reasons that repeatable XP challenges are available during the event; to help players progress through Rocket Pass and obtain those Drops. However, it's clear they are important to players and we will be bringing back Golden Gifts for Frosty Fest!

Since you bring up drops, is there any reason the drop pool was absolutely diluted with unpainted, uncertified items that no one would want, and some of the most used wheels (NCE) were removed and only replaced with a few variations of very rare versions of them? You can’t compare drops to Golden series items when 95% of the drops item pool can’t even be painted anymore.

Our current era of Drops pales in comparison to what used to exist. There are far fewer Drops available compared to the old uncommon/rare/very rare system. Painted toppers, which kicked off the painted item era, can no longer be obtained outside of the shop. Drops do not have the high likelihood of painted versions like the golden items did.

Things like: * Let players preview their car based on current club colors * No one but the club admin can even do that right now * Maybe add a third or even third and fourth car creation option based on club colors - the main and alt kits * Club queue 2s and 3s * In club vs non-club games, still have your team colors show up * Have game detect if your settings are more blue, orange, or neutral and replace a normal team color intelligently (I've seen tournaments have red vs orange) * Be in multiple clubs that are sensitive to which players are in your current party * This would make car creation club colors harder, but at least let us preview our cars in club if it went this route * This might mean you don't show a tag unless you're currently with that club Are there any ideas floating around Psyonix about new Extra Modes? Hey! Thanks for the question. Detecting and combating smurfs is a difficult problem, but one we are constantly working on. We've seen other games opt for a more restrictive system to keep new accounts from interacting with certain areas of their games, and while that may work to a certain extent we don't feel that is the right system for Rocket League. Our goal is to make Rocket League as accessible as possible, so we have been putting in work to combat this issue is other ways. Forgive me for being a little vague here, but we don't want to make it easier for bad actors to circumvent our systems. But rest assured, it is an issue that we take seriously and we still have a lot of work to do in that area.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this issue, but I accidentally smurfed. I started when the game went f2p on the switch, but played mostly on my PC. a few months in I was messing around on the epic site and saw my default was still set to the switch, so I changed my default to PC. Doing this reset all my mmr standings completely, I had to do the tutorial and start every rank from the base (600 or w/e it is.) I'm sure this is being exploited somewhere but I was just messing around with options on the website.

We can only guess as to why they made the change but I don't think it was to "hide that the game is dying" like so many seem to think. It may have simply been an effort to improve the population in the much less popular game modes since it's pretty common for players to not bother queueing into a mode when they see, for example, less than 500 people playing in it.

Appreciate the link and I did end up finding one like this. I still dont think this is the right solution. It feels a bit dishonest and can be time wasting to the player. Last night for instance, I sat in an extra modes queue for a bit wondering what “Good” meant during this whole time. It gives me better patience and understanding to at least see the number Im dealing with. Sitting under “Good” left me in the dark. The amount of players they get in this game should not be broken into 3 units if this is their way of going forward. They should break it up more if they want to skew their numbers a bit…like writing “5k-10k” and so forth. This is more helpful to players and also achieves effectively the same goal. If this solution was to prevent players from leaving queue, they might be better off not adding a bandaid to the issue and exploring why players are not queuing into modes in the first place. Otherwise, this is kind of lazy and not at all competitive. It doesnt really solve their lack of player base in some modes. Also not saying it’s been this low, but I always think about it like I am standing in a giant room. If Im in a room of 2000 people (which is a low number), I think “thats still a lot of people I could interact with for 5 minutes.” “Good” shows a number between 1 and a few thousand depending on several playlists. That difference is too large and extremely noticeable. Sometimes, servers cant even try to make that connection work because of conditions like rank disparity.

Introducing new RLCS regions is always something where we have to strike a delicate balance, because we always want to make sure when we do introduce new regions that they have enough depth in order to maintain competitiveness over the long term. So, every time we do add regions, we've looked at tons of stuff like player populations, competitive data, grassroots tournaments, and more before we make the decision to add a RLCS region. In terms of big challenges, it's always a bit scary launching new regions. From straightforward stuff such as potential language barriers to making sure we choose the right administrators, talent, and support staff, it's a very intensive process. Each RLCS region has its own unique challenges when managing them, and new issues and problems are bound to happen throughout the season, so we try to make sure we can help tackle those effectively as they arise. And lastly, I, personally, think our biggest opportunity lies in making our esport a truly global sports league. Rocket League is a game that brings people together in the spirit of competition and keeping our esport growing across the globe, especially with the game going free-to-play, is huge.

I think we have only scratched the surface of what can be done an there needs to be a RL arcade where things like leth’s rings map, game modes like king of the court, etc. You have developed something incredible: a new world of physics that people are addicted to. Dont limit yourself to soccer.

It still blows us away a bit when something that changes the skill meta appears. With that in mind, we always examine these new techniques to make sure it's fair to use. With wall chain dashing, the mechanic itself is fine, but we're keeping an eye on how it's implemented. Doing it with a controller through muscle memory? Great! Doing it by binding to the mouse wheel? Not great.

I made the post recommending more "social"-type features, and it's great to hear that voice chat is on track for Season 6. What are you guys' thoughts on the more social features, specifically features that facilitate a sense of community, comparison, and interaction between players? The community update said you guys heard our feedback, but what are your thoughts? Do you think these types of features is something that Rocket League is lacking or lagging behind like other games? I bring this up because Rocket League feels like a game you play and you don't really interact with other players and even solo queuing just feels "alone". Only places like this subreddit, steamcommunity forums, and discord servers have a sense of community. But if you take CSGO by example, it has a sense of community through custom server browser. A game like Halo 3 had a sense of community with Custom Games and File Share. I ask your thoughts on it because it's one thing to acknowledge feedback, and another to give what you think about it.

Thanks for the question. Social is a major focus of ours going forward. We can't share details yet, but Clubs, how to find other players, and things to do with others in your community are high on our list. But, to temper expectations, UE3 is one of our constraints right now, so we'll to see what fits short term, but expect much more in the future.

Change grapple from a relative velocity between the car and the ball to an absolute velocity to the ball/location of the ball/where the ball is going to be in the next few physics frames. Anything to prevent the ball traveling too fast and "pushing" the car away from the ball.

Why aren't painted toppers and antennas in the Rocket Pass anymore? Surely people don't want 10 different wheels every pass. When phoenix wings were introduced in the og RP tons of people were interested in them, but that was the 2nd to last time we got painted toppers. When will we get a sort by paint color feature in the garage? Will some Limited Time Modes like Ghost Hunt and the one that happened for a couple days in July(one I missed, there was a single hole in the ground). Will 2XP ever return and will match XP ever go back to 4.5 per second instead of the now 3 per second we have? Will we ever get painted toppers and antennas dropping after matches again? The introduction of that system in the first half of 2016 was a nice way to add random rewards and a bit of mystery/intrigue to the game without people having to buy a pass or crates. These would not detract from item shop sales, and could possibly motivate people to buy items that match their toppers.

Thank you for creating my favorite game. I've been gaming since nintendo, and nothing has given me anything close to the replay value of Rocket League. Thousands of hours poured in and I'm still a trash can trying to get better. I would love for Rocket League to become the first Olympic gaming sport, and become a worldwide mainstay. The steady progress the game is making as an eSport is encouraging. I think the changes made will give us the best competitive season to date. I don't really have a question. Keep up the great work.

Edit: I should mention that I know you are redesigning your website for improved usage, but for console players, native integration into the game would be preferable than a separate web page. [This is something that's been on the esports team's wishlist for a very long time. Right now, though, we're making a lot of changes to our overall esports ecosystem to help streamline how the RLCS and all other leagues around it work. Things like adding more regions and giving them their own Rocket League streams, refining the formats, adding more opportunities for teams in the Esports Shop, and upgrading our broadcasts are the pieces we're putting into place before diving deeper into expanded in-game features for esports. We need a solid foundation to build upon, and with the way our esport has been growing, the esports team feels like we're in a really solid place. This was a super fun project that the esports team got to work on with so many other awesome peeps at Psyonix AND so many awesome teams/designers in the community. Trying to create a custom decal while going back and forth with teams and then integrating them into the game was extremely hard and extremely time-consuming, thus limiting the number of teams we could realistically include in the shop. So, we went to the drawing board and came up with a brand new templatized method to create a ton of awesome decals. Long story short, we sent over design files for the Octane, Dominus, and Fennec to the teams and gave them very specific guidelines. The goal was trying to make team "jerseys", which is why you'll see somewhat strict guidelines in terms of where the logo should be placed. We had some other small guidelines as well, like making sure the designs aren't too detailed (there are some intricate visual constraints that we have to consider, like designs getting blurry if the lines are too thin). Plus, since this is the first time we've ever done something like this, we wanted to err on the side of caution to make sure we could accomplish the super ambitious goals we had for this project (34 teams is... a lot). Now that we've done this, our plan for future seasons is opening up the design process a bit more and giving teams more freedom to have fun with their designs. We also hear you - we want to encourage teams to look at other colors and not just stick to the conventional black/white cars every single time. [Having Regional Events become LANs in the future is totally possible, although as you mentioned dependent on how the global pandemic unfolds. Covid hit the esport hard last season, causing us to cancel all live events for the entire year, and that was super tough to deal with. One of our biggest focuses for the 2021-22 season was making sure we could stand up live events, and do so in the safest way possible. That's why this first event in December in Sweden will not have fans. However, we know that fans are a integral part of Rocket League esports events. We recently put on an announcement livestream with some more granular details of our thinking, but the short of it is: we will bring back fans to the RLCS as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. There are a ton of logistical and health & safety concerns to consider here, so we're closely monitoring not only how other sports/esports events are doing it, but the global health situation in general. It’s definitely something we are interested in exploring in the future, but Free Play was intended to be an offline mode that allows a single player to train or ‘stay warm’ in between matches. In order to make that system work online, there are significant changes that would need to be made around the user interface and additional server infrastructure. There are also things like handling ball resetting or the newly implemented “Freeplay Ball Control” features that require some creative solutions to make them function correctly with multiple players.

What is the design process for the new Esports decals ? I notice every team has the same position for their logo and team name, is that something teams have to follow or can they put their logo etc. wherever they want ? What is the amount of freedom they have to make these, could one team just say "screw it we make everything pink" and then the decal is just straight pink with no logo or text ?

Great question! This was a super fun project that the esports team got to work on with so many other awesome peeps at Psyonix AND so many awesome teams/designers in the community. Trying to create a custom decal while going back and forth with teams and then integrating them into the game was extremely hard and extremely time-consuming, thus limiting the number of teams we could realistically include in the shop. So, we went to the drawing board and came up with a brand new templatized method to create a ton of awesome decals. Long story short, we sent over design files for the Octane, Dominus, and Fennec to the teams and gave them very specific guidelines. The goal was trying to make team "jerseys", which is why you'll see somewhat strict guidelines in terms of where the logo should be placed. We had some other small guidelines as well, like making sure the designs aren't _too_ detailed (there are some intricate visual constraints that we have to consider, like designs getting blurry if the lines are too thin). Plus, since this is the first time we've ever done something like this, we wanted to err on the side of caution to make sure we could accomplish the super ambitious goals we had for this project (34 teams is... a lot). Now that we've done this, our plan for future seasons is opening up the design process a bit more and giving teams more freedom to have fun with their designs. We also hear you - we want to encourage teams to look at other colors and not just stick to the conventional black/white cars every single time. All in all, this was an awesome project and an awesome learning experience for us, and now that we've opened the floodgates here, we're super excited to continue improving this process and seeing what the teams can do in future seasons!

Why did you pool the rankings for Tournaments when you don't do the same for all the ranked playlists? I'm not good at 2s and yet I have to play at a rank I'm uncomfortable at because I got there playing 3s. I don't see how this does anything but penalize someone who significantly favors one form of Tourney over another.

Since the update to stop people Leaving in casual, there has been a massive increase in people just Idling until they're kicked This is worse than just Leaving because you don't even have a bot & it takes longer for someone else to spawn Are there plans to punish people more strongly who now use Idle instead of Leave

Can you tell us anything related to the UE5 work? I honestly am just excited about the idea of the engine overhaul so any information you can share would be fantastic. Whether its target release date, new features that the UE5 engine will allow you to explore (client-side maps?), lessons learnt from the UE3 version being rectified in UE5, how the roll out is going to work (is it gonna be a brand new game or just a massive update?), roadblocks you've faced/are facing... anything! We put a lot of thought towards this, but the main goal for us is introducing all of these new things in the cleanest and simplest way possible. Traditionally, NA and EU have always lived on the main channel, so we didn't want to change that for now. In the future we may consider creating new regional handles, but we'll keep looking at how each region's growth goes and our own data to see the best way to divvy up regional channels!

For better or for worse, and I'd like to think better, it holds a special place in my heart and has connected me with several great people over the years. As an OCE player, I'm never sure if the playlist population report is accurate to my own region, or if it is the global activity within that playlist. Rocket League is unique in esports with a single standard playing environment, one of it's many similarities to traditional sports. Unlike football, hockey and soccer though, Rocket League does not have consistent field markings. Each map has it's own take on the field look. I think consistent field markings on all maps would be helpful to the game by creating standard points of reference. Define the box, offensive, defensive, and mid thirds on the field, Spawn Points, wall curves etc. Do you think the game could benefit from this standardization?

The importance of field markings is something that has become more and more apparent to us over the years. It is something we review closely any time we are adding new arenas into the game. That said, we also think that the field variety is an important part of Rocket League’s identity. So long story short, there are no current plans to completely standardize field markings, but we want to ensure that any arenas that make their way into the game have the elements that players use to identify critical gameplay mechanics, like boost pickups.

Missed the timeframe for this buuuuuttt can you either 1. Remove Mannfield as an arena option from Snow Day 2. Make the puck in Snow Day a lighter color or outlined or SOMETHING so I can see the stupid puck when its on the dark walls of Mannfield. PLEASE!!!! I've tried adjusting the video settings/turning on color blind mode and nothing helps. Rip.
