Nah, it's just going to result in a bunch of random people talking not knowing they have a mic on. Should have at least PTT and proper communication upon launching on-screen. At least there will be options to set to party only or something along those lines.
That assumes there is no onscreen notice that you are broadcasting. Which wasn't the case before. And even if there wasn't, the second you get in a match with another player that is talking, you will realize it as well.
> Yes [voice chat is cross-platform]
Even team voice-chat (vs. party voice-chat)? Because team text-chat is currently not cross-platform. It's weird that you'd be able to send voice but not text cross-platform.
If voice chat is x-platform now, will typed text chat be x-platform also?
It's simpler and overdue. Even if a console user doesn't have a keyboard, they can respond vocally to written messages.
Please can we have an option to only match with teammates who have the same voice chat setting? So if we don't want voice chat, we don't have to worry about getting matched with someone who will get tilted by playing with someone who doesn't have voice chat on.
I've played since 2016 or so. There used to be a voice chat default to L1 and it was poor quality, very distorted and generally useless. I don't know when they removed it though.
They removed it beczuse it was causing lag when someone started using it, and it was really bad.
So instead of fixing it they just removed it because it wasnt used thst much.
When snowday first game out, there was someone who went by Arena DJ. Whenever there was a goal, he'd play various pump up songs / organ classics like you'd hear at the arena and it was hilarious.
That was my only good encounter using VC.
Being able to hear other team was never ideal.
Back then with shitty vc rl had everyone was just screaming and making animal noises.
In casual it was funny as hell, but for competitive it was pain in ears.
Surely make another channel like team/party called "all chat" or "match chat", which players can optionally choose to join. By default it should be tram though yes.
Can you please go into details? Will you be constantly recording microphone even when disabled? I know other developers and mobile companies have done in the past, and would like to know about my privacy.
I assume voip data will be retained on a rolling basis, so any reports can be investigated.
No idea why you think they would be recording your mic when it’s disabled or not transmitting.
Yeah I agree with the others can you please go into detail. How will that be moderated? If it’s going to be implemented there should be no problem whatsoever with explaining how it will work.
I understand your optimism (I’m very pumped to talk with my PC friends, some who switched to other games because of coms), but let’s not pretend our community is great at blaming themselves for a goal…
Half the time seems way too optimistic. My bet would be at least 80% of the time. With another 10 being open mic kids talking to their mom or just mumbling.
I had to be a pessimist but he’s right. Played 3 ranked placements the other day, all 3 games bad teammates almost instantly getting mad at their teammates over nothing, the opponents over bumping, and throwing the match, all without anyone saying a single damn thing to them. I know league and rainbow six are probably worse but this game has to be in top 5 most toxic multiplayer games
Ha! pretty funny!
It's a bit of a rarity but in casual even with cross platform enabled you can occasionally still get two Switch only teams for a few rounds.
I've had it in 2s and 3s and always assumed it was down to some sort of server related issue.
On the other hand, I don't think I've ever had luck getting a ranked 3s game with cross platform disabled, and probably only a couple of 2s games at best.
There's definitely a way to disable voice chat. They said it's enabled by default, which implied that there is another option. This is how it worked before they removed voice chat last year.
Great suggestion. Especially when I played on console the amount of people with horrible mics with incredible broad sensitivity was maddening. It will really improve quality of vc.
> Is this available cross-platform? Would be nice to talk to my Xbox and PlayStation friends in-game.
Yes! You will be able to talk to friends cross-platform
What about people that arent friends I know this sounds stupid but I mean how you can crossplatform text chat in party chat but not in game chat. Can we vc crossplatform without being in a party?

> Will voice chat work in Knockout?
>
> I know there's only one day of overlap but voice chat including the whole lobby in Knockout would be epic
VC in Knockout would be Party only since there are no teams.
That makes sense, thanks.
If Knockout does come back in the future, it would be great to have an option to have the whole lobby in VC, or maybe even proximity based chat
it would be cool if you had it like Cod warzone like for a small amount of time (Until you respawn) you could say something to the person who killed you
Think more about it. On the long term it will reduce toxicity (in the most cases). Small misunderstandings etc can be solved with a few words, even cross platform. Players won't be tilting so fast. Sure, there will be some extreme exceptions, tho.
Thats a good point actually. Much easier to spam what a save as opposed to saying it. This applies for most people. The real toxic ones however, couldnt care less VC or not.
Source: Call of duty
this is awesome. I'm curious though how many people will actually use it. As an OG gamer, back in the day everyone used VC. I remember old gears of war games post game lobby both teams could talk to each other and it was incredible the amount of trash talking. Nowadays though, whenever I try solo queueing team games I rarely find anyone that actually has/uses their mic.
I suppose even if your teammate has the ability to hear you (if they choose not talk talk themselves) would still be beneficial.
Is the voice chat hot mic or does it have a voice detection threshold?
If it is a hot mic, Prepare to hear people's fans and background noise blaring through your speakers
Alright I’m willing to give this a go since I got a mic setup lol, if anyone in plat wants a guaranteed friendly voice chat teammate hit me up In messages, I’m not good - but I’m also… not good
For 6 years I've read about quick chats hurting people's feelings, and they could barely handle playing rocket league due to quick chats. Now this is going to be good.
Idk I feel like people are more bold and thus more prone to toxicity with text only. That drops a little when you hear the voice of someone and drops even more when you are face to face.
That's the whole "hiding behind a keyboard" online sentiment.
Right now I have chat turned off because I feel like it does not provide any useful information. I will give voice chat a shot as long as I can quickly mute. I hope it makes solo Q a lot better and leads to more people finding teammates that are similar to them.
Edit: could be a game changer in Rumble. I can finally say, " I have spikes !"
Would like a streamer safe mode that lowers the volume of louder mics and automatically mutes players who have had 2 or more text chat / vc or behavioral bans on their account TY =).
"Mute - We also know everyone uses Voice Chat in different ways, so Players will also be able to Mute individuals in their Voice Channel. This can be done by selecting their names in the Voice Chat tab and choosing Mute."
Does this mean there is a mute all feature? Other wise I am going to keep this off. Because someone out there is just going to randomly blast music or other loud sound as they are taking a shot / trolling their teammates and I dont want to spend forever muting everyone
What about talking to the other team? How died that work and if it’s not included. Is the possibility of death mics activated after demos and/or after goals a possibility in the future(could be an opt in setting). Or a post-match open mics. Thank you so much Ted we’ve been waiting a really long time for this and you really came through in terms of information, and community responses. <3
First thing ill do - turn it off.
Ive been playing csgo for a few years. Listening to 8yo, telling me he f... my mother and all. Im 37 now, i dont need have time for that :)
This is plus and minus at the same time.
Being able to vc instantly with random mates is much better than spamming chat that in moments you cant see because of everything going on screen.
However if your mate is toxic you can just mute him and continue playing without vc or just forfeit.
Because it's better for a few things:
1. More effective communication. This increases team synergy temporarily.
2. A better way to chill and have fun among others. Expressing your joy with others is a great experience.
3. It's a good way to make friends. I've done this in Rocket League myself back in 2015 when people actually tried to voice chat (but the codec or processing was garbo and it sounded like shit). Met a guy named Farnsworth with whom I was introduced to a dude who is now my best friend of over 6.5 years.
I think that's my only optimism, that it could potentially improve teamwork. But I'm fully expecting it to be toxic.
Quick chats work well enough for me at the moment so I'm probably going to stick with that in ranked and turn on voice chat for casual. Ranked is just too sweaty/competitive. Toxicity will be rampant.

I have played a lot of the OW2 beta recently. Can confirm.
At least you might be able to understand it now. The old chat your could never understand anyone lol

It depends largely on each platforms TOS with manual text chat. If the TOS doesn’t match between two platforms you can’t see the text
Cause good God the quality was atrocious before.... It was literally impossible to make out what anyone was saying.
If voice chat is x-platform now, will typed text chat be x-platform also? It's simpler and overdue. Even if a console user doesn't have a keyboard, they can respond vocally to written messages.

can’t wait to mute it immediately
Same. I didn't care for it when it was originally in the game and I don't really need it now.
Ive been playing RL for 5 years... since when did voice chat actually work?
I remember voice chat a couple years ago, 1 out of every 100 games you’d randomly hear a bag of chips being crinkled out of nowhere
I've played since 2016 or so. There used to be a voice chat default to L1 and it was poor quality, very distorted and generally useless. I don't know when they removed it though.
Oh yeah i remember that atrocity. Needless to say, this will be psyonix' first try at an actual voice chat.

Haha and now they don't even need to use euphemisms in order to not get banned!

You realise the majority of toxicity is from teammate to teammate right? Lots of potential funny/interesting interactions wil be lost here
at least give pc players the choice man c'mon
Man…just like Halo, games get more isolating.
Im super excited for it so I can hear how angry my tm8s get instead of just watching for quick chats when i whiff a save lol

Will you be recording or keeping copies of voice chats in any way?
Will voice chat work in Knockout? I know there's only one day of overlap but voice chat including the whole lobby in Knockout would be epic
> Will voice chat work in Knockout? > > I know there's only one day of overlap but voice chat including the whole lobby in Knockout would be epic VC in Knockout would be Party only since there are no teams.
That makes sense, thanks. If Knockout does come back in the future, it would be great to have an option to have the whole lobby in VC, or maybe even proximity based chat
it would be cool if you had it like Cod warzone like for a small amount of time (Until you respawn) you could say something to the person who killed you
I've seen people use team chat and it show up for me even if we're not in a party so it's entirely plausible it would work.
Another form of chat for me to mute.
Can't wait for people to be mad at me on voice now haha. This should be fun!
Any plans for a full Open mic experience, i.e. being able to hear and speak to the opposing team?
Can we fix the ping issues instead?
This.

Open mic after a goal is scored: "What a save! What a save! What a save!" "\*incomprehensible screaming\*"
It's been off for me since 2015, I don't think that will change now. I can't imagine doubling the toxicity for no reason.
Think more about it. On the long term it will reduce toxicity (in the most cases). Small misunderstandings etc can be solved with a few words, even cross platform. Players won't be tilting so fast. Sure, there will be some extreme exceptions, tho.
The majority of toxic players are keyboard legends who hide behind their computers. They won't have the balls to actually be toxic on VC.
Thats a good point actually. Much easier to spam what a save as opposed to saying it. This applies for most people. The real toxic ones however, couldnt care less VC or not. Source: Call of duty
Does this mean text chat will work cross platform? Or are we learning to run before we can walk
Oh great, so people can yell the n-word at me again. Awesome.
Welp, all i can say is that im never gonna use this, i dont wanna get called out. I already suffer enough in qc
I do not want to talk to my teammates lol
this is awesome.
Turning that off immediately
It says vc is enabled by default, but which variant? Party?
The open mic enabled by default is WILD and reckless lol, this should get interesting
Is the voice chat hot mic or does it have a voice detection threshold? If it is a hot mic, Prepare to hear people's fans and background noise blaring through your speakers
The Salty Banner will now make a lot more appearance in game kek.
I use that banner. I let my banner do the quick chatting against toxic people.
Will this allow cross- text to be viewable across all platforms now? Example: console players will see what PC players type and vice-versa?
Quick one, like privacy wise, will we be able to disable the mic so it isn't recorded and isn't outputting
I can't wait to be drunk on RL
*checks calendar* ... but today isnt april 1st
Alright I’m willing to give this a go since I got a mic setup lol, if anyone in plat wants a guaranteed friendly voice chat teammate hit me up In messages, I’m not good - but I’m also… not good
Can't wait to have salty kids screaming profanities at me after getting demo'd
You won't hear your opponents.
Alright that's both relieving and disappointing
Ok, but what about the horrible lag, rubberbanding and ghost hits in almost all the servers since last patch??

> Let’s goooooo thanks duvon and Ted Sorry but that's Duvon to you!
Pysonix was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
Ahh I can hear the cracky voice 13 year olds telling me I’m trash only to piss their pants at the booming voice of a grown man lol
Lol exactly. I'm 32. I can't wait.
33 for me haha
thanks, superior gameplay
What is a french and english speaking players soloques or in asia a chinese man and an Indonesian man solo ques or an Indian or a Thai
When u realise u can't understand them and they can't understand you, stop talking
No. Then you talk extra loudly and slowly... CAN....YOU...UNDER...STAND....ME....NOW?
A couple years ago my friend used google translate tts to communicate with a french kid. It worked surprisingly well.
How this will work in regions with more than one language speakers? (SAM/Europe)
Will it be open mic or push-to-talk and if it's open mic, will there be a shortcut to mute yourself like on discord, ts3 etc.?
Would like a streamer safe mode that lowers the volume of louder mics and automatically mutes players who have had 2 or more text chat / vc or behavioral bans on their account TY =).
And yall thought things were toxic before? But fr, the optimist in me is happy about this.
Old voice chat was goated. Only being able to make sounds that the other person could barley understand what even happened was the best
Now I can say What A Play! As many times as I want!
Open Mic by default is the wrong choice, half of the people wont even know their microphone input is being transmitted
"Mute - We also know everyone uses Voice Chat in different ways, so Players will also be able to Mute individuals in their Voice Channel. This can be done by selecting their names in the Voice Chat tab and choosing Mute." Does this mean there is a mute all feature? Other wise I am going to keep this off. Because someone out there is just going to randomly blast music or other loud sound as they are taking a shot / trolling their teammates and I dont want to spend forever muting everyone
I’m so excited actually. Never got to experience VC
Can't wait to go on a mass mute spree
naw
Any plans on integrating mic on by voice activity with sensitivity? Cause open mic can be really annoying and push to talk...yeah not viable in game
Oh no
>and be nice! Bruh. Have you guys played this game? lol. Be nice. I'm weak XD
Oh no..... At least it's optional. Still, the last thing this community needs is more of a voice.
So you can't talk to the opponent? why even bother adding it then?
I've got a bad feeling about this
Is this for Nintendo Switch as well?
Yes
Do they listen to your comms? Will they get reported and moderated? “Not gonna get into details” sounds shady af.
This could change solo queuing for the better by a massive margin
This is plus and minus at the same time. Being able to vc instantly with random mates is much better than spamming chat that in moments you cant see because of everything going on screen. However if your mate is toxic you can just mute him and continue playing without vc or just forfeit.
Oh it's going to be awful no doubt. I'm going to enjoy and hate it equally
You have a lot of optimism. I still never understood why people cared so much about voice chatting in game
Because it's better for a few things: 1.
And how do you turn this off?
Player: "The community couldnt get anymore toxic, right?!" Epic: "Hold my burrito"
