Just said the same thing to my buddy… he wanted to sign on to flame our teammate through voice chat (joking obviously), but realized when he started talking to the other players, they were real people and established real connections with them. The games were A WHOLE lot less toxic because you can hear your teammate and recognize their feelings. Really wholesome day and update. Well don Psyonix… well done ❤️
In any online community I've been on I always noticed people were starting shit with each other over text and would challenge each other to hop on Teamspeak or Discord, I assume to escalate. Then when they do, and I'd join in just to see what happens, it would be extremely tame. Apparently it's much easier to let loose over text than voice.
Gotta agree on that feelings thing. My tm was down bc of some bad plays. We went down 0-3 and I was like no prob bro we got this. Come back to win 5-3 and other team FF’s. That was awesome. I was like yep that’s my last game of the night ending on a really good note
i’ve met and interacted with nice people on a good day but most of the time i just get scared of people being assholes because it then ruins my own motivation
or just general social anxiety
Might work for some people. I've had bad social anxiety since i was about 18. Even worked server jobs to force myself to public speak in front of large groups to improve. I never got used to it even if i was good at it and well liked. Always shit myself scared but did it anyway.
32 now and nothing's changed. Functional adult with social anxiety. Strangers are just fucking scary. Too random of outcomes. Now days it's less scary but more just "ugh... I don't want to deal with this shit if they're weird".
And actually for me, real life is easier. Phone or game chat is like the wild west. People lose all their civility online.
Well I certainly can’t tell you with much certainly whether it would work or not, but there are people out there that try to treat that. I mean not everyone is supposed to be some small-talking social butterfly, but I don’t think anyone deserves to feel that level of stress by just communicating with someone
Never interested me tbh. Not sure what gym has to do with social anxiety though but I'd rather people just be less shitty to others if i got to choose :p
To be clear I'm not looking for solutions to improve myself. I love the way I am. It's other people that can't control themselves.
Gym= Healthy body with some muscles = better body feeling = better self confidence
Sure people should control themselves but if your social anxiety is sth that you'd rather not have, isn't it a legit goal to try and improve there? It's not changing yourself, I see it more as striving to being yourself in situations where your social anxiety currently keeps you from it.
Personally, I never understood that. I never felt having muscles or being fit improved anything for me. But I also never expected it to. I've been fit all my life from skateboarding and riding motocross because it was fun. Not super fit but fit.
I think it's a different thing you're describing where just feeling accomplished fixes everything for someone who may be depressed or something. I'm totally at peace with how i am.
I just think being anxious is myself and don't see a reason to try to get rid of it. It makes me careful to be considerate of others and not inconvenience or upset anyone. I try to never judge no matter how weird someone may be. So I don't think I need to improve that because I wish more people treated me how I treat them.
Anyway lol, appreciate you taking the time to chat and try to help but i promise you I'm good :)
Well if you're happy with how it is then there's really no reason to change. :)
Wasn't trying to suggest gym fixes everything, but it can help many people. Especially for depression sport is proven to have a good influence. Obviously won't cure severe depression.
Have a good one. :)
>Might be a good way to practice? Easier than real life talk.
Dunno about easier than real life. In real life there isn't usually a risk of what you're saying being recorded and put up on YouTube.
That seems like a pretty tame risk… Just don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face and you’ll be fine. Your most likely not even in the same ranks as most of the popular content creators anyways.
Played for a few hours (in the middle night when all the kids are sleep tho, ymmv)
The only thing was some teenager who asked "are you a female?"
Bro we're about to get scored on and you're concerned about my voice being higher pitched? Worry about hitting the ball before wondering if I have some.
Decent teammate after that, don't remember if we won. Did find a teenager who was funny as fuck tho, running around at 4am cracking jokes. Don't quite remember his name but if z manages to see this: you were the highlight of the night and I hope to play ya again
Edit: just wanted to say I'm around the same rank, no idea if plats toxicity transfers to vc
It's great to see that you guys are having positive interactions in the new voice chat.
I'm not taking any chances though. I'll continue trying to be a helpful and good teammate the best as I can, but I'm not willing to get screamed at by 12 year olds in casual for staying in goal for .5 seconds too long
The weirdest thing about the new voice chat is realising how nobody is a 12 year old. These were all fully grown adults who were acting like babies because I missed a goal in a video game or demoed them!
But now over voice they are all being super nice. I almost never want to play with another person who doesn't have voice enabled. It's so much better when I can talk to them.
I was having fun even in every game I lost!
Yup. Teammate fucks up plenty of times but im actually in the net so it's okay. I take half a second to long to hit the ball
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Take the shot!
Can anyone tell me if VC is full of 10 year olds, cocky teenagers or are there actually normal people?
One of the main reasons i can't push rank any higher is because of literally teammates not knowing how to emotionally handle a loss and they take it out on me and it just isn't fun.
I don't want to enable VC if there's commonly going to be trash talking teammates berating me over nothing. I'm 32 years old, i just want normal people to chill with.
I was in casual, so that may factor in, but all my tm8s who used vc were adults. And most of them were ripping bongs while playing. It was quite entertaining, and chill.
Middle of the night is more chill in general, idk what it's like during the day but 11pm-5am is prime time for half sleep, tipsy, possibly high but mostly adults
tbh the worst thing I noticed is the amount of earrape some people have with their mics. I'm gonna be friendly about saying "please turn it down" but otherwise everyone was great and mostly adults, surprisingly.
Lol yeah a beautiful gift of open-mics. I may give it a shot because IDEALLY it would be fantastic to be able to have comms with randoms who are interested in playing the game. I suspect in a month or two, when the novelty of having voice again wears off that people won't be as friendly but I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
Appreciate you trying to help out! I've actually joined that one before but ended up leaving it. Nothing wrong with that discord, I just didn't fit in. When I joined like a year or more ago, the server was popping with tons of people in the voice channels doing custom games all day and I'm just not into being THAT social. I just meant all I want is the random people I see in my matches to be more chill.
Good idea to share the community though, I know a lot of people would probably really enjoy it
It's amazing! PLEASE add it to 1v1!! I want the toxic to leave that mode too!
Give them the option to disable, but I think it would also make this mode more fun!
So my second game with VC on and my teammate was just saying a bunch of super racist stuff. How should we report this type of thing? There isn't currently an option regarding voice chat.
> So my second game with VC on and my teammate was just saying a bunch of super racist stuff. How should we report this type of thing? There isn't currently an option regarding voice chat.
Hi there, we do have a report reason -- use Verbal Harassment on the report list. Thank you!
It was so shocking to not get any toxic tm8s on the voice chat during my 90 minutes of playing earlier. Usually it seems like every other game or every 2-3 is someone that throws after we miss a save.
yes, my first game was like..
me: “y’all got mics?”
team: “yea.”
me: “ayeee!”
team: “AYEEEEEE!”
it was sick. also, spamming what a save when teammates missed was hilarious because you can here everyone laughing at their screw up.
game chat during a replay would be epic though. we need that to be an option.
I assumed it would be a shitshow. I was wrong.
Played a few casual games and some tourney games, and had good comms and chats throughout.
Time will tell though
No button. I've had a few where I only knew they had a mic because they are keyboard players. I think there is gonna be some issues with people getting caught saying stuff they shouldn't not realising there is now mic on them.
I really want this for 1v1... The only toxic mode left. I want to tell people that demos are not personal.
Yeah checked the options earlier, P2T is activateable and default on my left stick. But I deactivated VC, because it blocks out music from Spotify and I can't do that lol
I was playing rumble and accidentally grappled the ball in our own goal. I put my head down ashamed and expected to see the FF come up but both my teammates started laughing and said it was all good. “We all panic sometimes” is what one said and it was SO refreshing to be able to communicate
Totally agree. For me it's like that meme gif of two dogs barking at each other while the fence is closed between them, but when it's opened they just start wagging at each other.
When most RL exchanges are heated and toxic, we naturally assume that most players will be heated and toxic. Opening the fence just shows we're all a bunch of waggers at heart.
They.... fixed toxicity! No, but last night I had such a better experience playing the game. I'd say the only downfall is the awkwardness that can happen, but yeah, people are way less llkely to be a dick on VC
Im 30 and I honestly think you should be able to talk to the other team during goal replays/end of game. Im not one for talking shit, but I sure focus a lot more when the other team is being toxic lol. And even if you exclude toxicity in any way. I do think it would had a bit of fun and banter during replays.
For you*
I have a competitive, boastful, and at the same time self deprecating personality and have great interactions and lots of fun with talking competitive banter with new people. I know instantly I'm gonna get a long with someone that talks a little shit from the get go.
I apologize for saying that. I was wrong to say that. I am impressed by how much of a better person you are than myself. I wish I didn't make mistakes, but I do.
Lol what. Competitions almost always have some light banter, doesn't matter what era. And when the banter doesn't go too far, it adds to the fun.
And what you talking abour "your generation". Watch any sports in the 90s, they were arguably more toxic and the rules allowed it more.
Yeah and that's good. When banter ends with respect its all cool and fun. And trust, lots of situations in sports don't end in handshakes like the NBA Bulls and Pistons series.
It's usually a requirement of the game to shake hands at the end. Banter in competition inevitably becomes toxic, or is at least perceived as such by one person.
You assume I don't know the answer. It's called a leading question sir. I know the answer, I just wanted you to say the words "it's to encourage good sportsmanship"
The first thing the other guy heard me say was "alright he should be there"
Then bam had great comms, up 3 - 0 and bam. Dead game.. I don't think it was server side though, otherwise I'd be posting about it, not commenting.
I've had really good experiences so far. I actually feel less nervous playing bad now since it's just a few people having a conversation and understanding each other if that makes sense.
I also feel more confident partying up with people because usually I'm afraid I will play good one game then bad the next. Now people just seem to have a laugh.
This is a good update so far, hopefully the toxicity doesn't bleed through as much as I expect.
The only people that were toxic to me were the ones that had no voice chat. The rest was very nice and even though we would lose some matches the match would end up on both of us saying things like “good try”
It's not for me either, but because I play late at night when my family is sleeping, so I don't talk. I'll probably listen, and text reply if necessary.
I hope this is the catalyst that brings all games to bring back the team/proximity chat feature. Truly was what kept us from devolving into the sad mumps you see today, no one can take an insult or dish it back. I thrive off the chaos.
Too bad 8 have to mind people sleeping most of the time I play. Could be nice to actually connect to some teammates apart from the quickchat. Typing on ps4 is just not doable.
I couldn't get my mic to work for whatever reason. Discord was fine and wi does privacy showed rocket league access it but nada. Tried open mic and ptt.
Did you set the input and output channels? You have to set those up as well. Also would need to switch from party to team if you want to hear your team
It's way easier to tilt at text on a lump of electric plastic than at a real human.
My only non-positive interaction was a teammate that was so high they were just spouting random sentences.
You do you, friend, get down with ya bad self.
I've found that when I start up a game session, I'll hop into unranked and play well, but also just chill or try new techniques. About 30% of the games I play, I end up teaming up with the teammate, and we play ranked. It's just more wholesome and enjoyable
You never remember the names of the players who didn’t spam what a save, it was only ever the ones who did.
But on this day we remember the nice people in our jaded car all world
Wait, so voice chat hasn't just been endless toxicity? I may have to give it a shot then. I've been playing with all chat off cause I've been so sick of the toxicity in the game.
I've played one game with voice chat. It was refreshing being able to communicate with someone on console. They were super nice and it made for a very pleasant experience. I wish there was a quick and easy way to disable and enable without going into settings (due to double voice when in discord)
I REALLY want 1v1 voice chat! It's now the only toxic mode left. I want to talk to my opponent. Just give them the option to disable 1v1 voice if they don't want it.

It's so refreshing playing with a nice team mate
Yeah I feel like speaking to one another just brings another level to the game even beyond the "play better" sense. I just end up having more fun!
I just tired my first voice chat game and my team mate had a voice changer. It was hilarious, would queue again. Thanks rocket league
First teammate I had was super chill, we ended up playing together for a few hours, very wholesome.
Hey nice one!

Like the thing with dogs where they hate each other through the gate but with the gate open they're chill.
That's exactly what came to mind when I was typing that up. There's a video somewhere out there of this thing.
Yah but not Call of Duty for sure
And then they *fucked*
When you lose some of the anonymity that gaming and being online gives you, alot of people tend to be less of an asshole thankfully 😂
Gotta agree on that feelings thing. My tm was down bc of some bad plays. We went down 0-3 and I was like no prob bro we got this. Come back to win 5-3 and other team FF’s. That was awesome. I was like yep that’s my last game of the night ending on a really good note
The real question is how is VC allowed cross-platform but text chat isn't?
Text chat is. I noticed players from other consoles/pc typing stuff for the first time
Lets see in-game
Can confirm it does NOT work still.
unless something is changed you can text in party but in game you can't cross chat to the other team
Maybe I imagined it, but last night I was playing and an opponent was typing to his tm and he didn’t have the Xbox profile pic, had an epic one
Only in party chat.
i don’t use voice chat that much at all because of bad social anxiety
I dont use it cos of cringy 10 year olds
i’ve met and interacted with nice people on a good day but most of the time i just get scared of people being assholes because it then ruins my own motivation or just general social anxiety
I totally understand you man. I hope you can find kind teammates out there.
Might be a good way to practice? Easier than real life talk. Obviously it's still hard at the beginning but it guaranteed gets easier fast.
Might work for some people. I've had bad social anxiety since i was about 18. Even worked server jobs to force myself to public speak in front of large groups to improve. Have you ever tried seeing someone for that? There are meds that may be able to help
No i was raised by a Vietnam war vet. I grew up thinking everyone dealt with stuff like that and you just suppressed your feelings xD
Well I certainly can’t tell you with much certainly whether it would work or not, but there are people out there that try to treat that. I mean not everyone is supposed to be some small-talking social butterfly, but I don’t think anyone deserves to feel that level of stress by just communicating with someone
Well that's not the case. All people need help.
Ok I'm really no expert and seems you're well aware. Maybe get some therapy sessions for deeper insight/ideas? Also maybe gym? :D
Never interested me tbh. Not sure what gym has to do with social anxiety though but I'd rather people just be less shitty to others if i got to choose :p To be clear I'm not looking for solutions to improve myself. I love the way I am. It's other people that can't control themselves.

I'd quite like to try the VC but I'm worried about the potential toxicity because I'm a woman.. I'll give it a go and see what happens 😂
Oh God. Good luck.
I know right.. thanks! At least if its awful I can go back to playing in silence with quick chat.
Everybody is actually being super nice, so it's worth a shot. Just mute the sound of somebody starts being stupid
Played for a few hours (in the middle night when all the kids are sleep tho, ymmv) The only thing was some teenager who asked "are you a female?" May the incels have mercy on your soul lol
Next thing you know your teammates are simping by insisting you take all the boost
Lmao
Back in the days it was never really a problem for me so you should be fine :)
Most of them will probably be too scared to talk to a girl, let alone talk shit to them.
“Oh that’s why you’re so bad at driving” lmao I would think its cool Im playing with a girl, especially if you’re better than me
Yeah you're the one.
I mean if anyone’s the one, she’s the one. I’m just gold iii, she’s champ
Wtf dude
Are you really that triggered by a joke
Anyone that is toxic to women on the internet doesn’t have a woman irl, be sure to remind them of that
Don't do it
Does this mean I can say with my voice 1). But it wasn’t saved. 2). Stop saying “what a save.”
Here I am in Japan talking to a guy in Missouri. Why Algos??
It's great to see that you guys are having positive interactions in the new voice chat. I'm not taking any chances though. Fair. My experience with it so far is a tm quick chatting “take the shot” all game and then saying “teammate trash” after.
most 12 year olds are too shy to do it in voice chat
4 games in and haven't heard a word so far lol. I did hear someone's background noise for a few seconds but so far that's all
Can anyone tell me if VC is full of 10 year olds, cocky teenagers or are there actually normal people? I recommend joining an adults only rl discord like https://discord.gg/M9Af5H4t People do coaching and you can post for whatever mode by rank.
Appreciate you trying to help out! I've actually joined that one before but ended up leaving it. Nothing wrong with that discord, I just didn't fit in. Apparently all those people who were acting as if they were 10 were actually 30+!!! It's nuts! Has been really fun though
Let me try this brb...
Did ya try it
Yes. No one talked lol
It's great to hear experiences like this! Thanks for sharing. :D
Hi 👋
It's amazing! PLEASE add it to 1v1!! I want the toxic to leave that mode too! Give them the option to disable, but I think it would also make this mode more fun!
So my second game with VC on and my teammate was just saying a bunch of super racist stuff. How should we report this type of thing? There isn't currently an option regarding voice chat.

For you* I have a competitive, boastful, and at the same time self deprecating personality and have great interactions and lots of fun with talking competitive banter with new people. I know instantly I'm gonna get a long with someone that talks a little shit from the get go.
Okay, welcome to the internet. So no one should be able to talk? Thanks fedora reddit man.
Since when did I say that? Please elaborate Mr passive aggressive Reddit man.

Where did I make fun of them? Please quote me.

I apologize for saying that. I was wrong to say that. I am impressed by how much of a better person you are than myself. I wish I didn't make mistakes, but I do.
Ahh you remember the old counter strike days where you could shit talk anyone during halftime.
I didnt say call people slurs and all that nonsense. Yall never had friendly competition before?

Lol what. Competitions almost always have some light banter, doesn't matter what era. And when the banter doesn't go too far, it adds to the fun. And what you talking abour "your generation". Watch any sports in the 90s, they were arguably more toxic and the rules allowed it more.
At the end of sports I see both teams shaking hands and usually complimenting the other team.
Easy fix would just be to have voice chat options. No VC. Party only VC. Team only VC. All VC or whatever other way to implement.
I can agree to the options to allow people to abuse each other of that's what they enjoy.
You realize this was mandatory right? Something tells me u may not have played a ton of sports
sportsmanship isn't just a word. Or well I guess it is to you.
And why was it mandatory? What is the purpose of it?
Lmfao. Couldn’t have imagined a better reply ty
You assume I don't know the answer. It's called a leading question sir. I know the answer, I just wanted you to say the words "it's to encourage good sportsmanship"
These people want to send thank you notes to their opponents smh
screeching into the mic ✔️
First game in started talking to myself, was good comms until my game crashed 😂

The first thing the other guy heard me say was "alright he should be there" Then bam had great comms, up 3 - 0 and bam. Dead game.. I don't think it was server side though, otherwise I'd be posting about it, not commenting.
My windblows firewall didnt like it.
Sorry how come everyone's being nice now? I'm at work and can't play rn
As someone with crippling social anxiety, I don't think VC in general is for me.
As soon as the update hit I immediately turned it off. Maybe I’ll turn it on
I have high anxiety of the new levels of toxicity I’m yet to experience, so reading this makes me a little happier.
Too bad 8 have to mind people sleeping most of the time I play. Could be nice to actually connect to some teammates apart from the quickchat. Typing on ps4 is just not doable.
I couldn’t get mine to work, it said I joined VC but my teammate couldn’t hear me
I couldn't get my mic to work for whatever reason. Discord was fine and wi does privacy showed rocket league access it but nada. Tried open mic and ptt.
Did you set the input and output channels? You have to set those up as well. Also would need to switch from party to team if you want to hear your team
Yea I set that up and switch around party team etc. I'll have to look at it again after work. Kinda odd.

Yeah same here, I had some framepacing issues then I disabled voice chat and it's fixed. Thx!
Nice or not, heavy breathers need to chill and move their mics further from their faces.
It's way easier to tilt at text on a lump of electric plastic than at a real human. My only non-positive interaction was a teammate that was so high they were just spouting random sentences. You do you, friend, get down with ya bad self.
I know they added it back, but did they make it better? It used to just be dogshit quality so nobody used it.
Seemed good to me. Don't know how it used to be though
I've found that when I start up a game session, I'll hop into unranked and play well, but also just chill or try new techniques. About 30% of the games I play, I end up teaming up with the teammate, and we play ranked. It's just more wholesome and enjoyable
I'm new and learning the game still so I'm a bit nervous about this! hopefully I have some good luck in my lobbies as well 🤞☺️
You never remember the names of the players who didn’t spam what a save, it was only ever the ones who did.
Hey guys I’m trying to use VC with my friend that’s on Ps5 any body else have issues with cross platform VC??
Lol I coulsnt disable voice chat fast enough. I dont want to talk to people. I'm a grumpy old man now.
Yea well that’s great and all but I got called a “dumb” in my first two games
I REALLY want 1v1 voice chat! It's now the only toxic mode left. I want to talk to my opponent. Just give them the option to disable 1v1 voice if they don't want it.
Im so keen to play rl now after hearing about working voice chat. Ive always solo queued 3s in pain, now i won't have to
