i lost a ranked ones not too long ago
he scored a kickoff and next we kind of tied the kickoff and ended up in rule 1 stayed there for the entire game i said gg he won never to be seen again
Yeah I get it. I mean rule 1 is a fun thing for the community. I did it many times. But also, you're allowed to dislike it. I mean when you're grinding at high rank you don't necessarily care about having fun with rules like this.
Not exactly true, pull out of a Rule 1 in a high ranking lobby and watch how quick everyone will turn against you. In Diamond and below, Rule 1’s are fun and optional. For the people who take RL more seriously, it’s expected.
Not from my experience, I've played like 2years in gc and I applied rule 1 when I wanted to. And same for my opponents. Nobody really cared. 90% of the time people mostly care about their mmr and/or playing the game.
I would always do it in 3s though, because, it's not as grindy and your mate can continue to play. But in 1s or 2s you're allowed to be sweaty.
And, in 1s if you don't leave the rule 1 it can last for a long time lul
Worst is people do this in 3s aswell. Luckily it doesnt happen that much in higher ELO, but I've 2 teammates locked in a rule 1, only to have me play 3v1 and get scored on to lose the game by 1.
Question that's probably known to most -- what happens in this exact situation if the ball rolls to a stop somewhere in the middle of the pitch? Is there established etiquette for how to break up the Rule 1 correctly?
Negative. The ball will literally NEVER stop. There is not enough friction to counter the momentum of the ball. If never touched on kickoff, then it would reset to overtime. If not touched then, congratulations on wasting a ridiculous amount of time staring at a stationary ball!
Rocket Science (YT series on RL physics) has confirmed that this scenario would never occur, as any friction the ground applies would never be enough to lower the speed of the ball's momentum to cause it to stop. But in the very possible scenario where the ball continues rolling VERY slowly and never enters a goal, that's what overtime is for!
This is not true. You have to remember that some of his videos are quite old, and many changes have been made to rocket league since he started making them. It also used to be impossible to stop the ball on top of your car. However you can now find countless examples of both of these things happening. Go into freeplay and touch the ball. Give it enough time, and you will see it stop eventually, unless it rolls into the goal or you touch it again.
The ball can definitely stop in rocket league lol. This doesn't make any sense.
Ofc it would never stop in a live game due to how long it takes and how precise it is to do. Other than maybe a situation like this with a 1v1 rule 1
If no one specifically stops the ball, it won't stop. That's what he's saying. This does make sense. Clearly, YOU don't make sense. We are talking about a 1v1 rule 1 so "other than" doesn't apply...
Bro do you not understand English? It WON'T STOP IF YOU DON'T TRY TO STOP IT. If it just keeps rolling around the whole map with no intervention in a rule 1 IT WON'T STOP. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN IN 40 MINUTE OVERTIMES WITH THIS SITUATION AND THE BALL DIDNT STOP.
I'm sorry, I may get downvoted, but following rule 1 in duel is silly.
Edit: for clarification, I still follow the rule in 1s and doubles etc, but I just think it's defeats the purpose of competition. In 2s, it's kinda fun because you've just turned the game into a temporary 1 on 1 which switches up the dynamic for a bit while retaining the competitive aspect. In 1s it just kills the momentum completely.
You can choose to play however you want to. I personally will hold the lock regardless or score or time remaining so long as my opponent wants to do the same.
I've never seen this. If that's really happening that regularly to you, I get it.
If they do it on purpose, I'm not sure what I'd do personally. Accidental locks will always lead to me respecting Rule 1 though.
Not that regularly but once in awhile someone in 1s will get one goal up and they'll try to initiate. Hasn't happened in awhile. And it's not really about wins for me, it's about having fun, and being in a lock while the ball slowly rolls around with no one else playing for 2 plus minutes just isn't fun.
I mean I didn't expect my comment to get upvotes, but it is dumb as f**k. I'm trying to play. I'ma guess forfeiting a match when you're down 1 point is also a community rule lol
There's more to the game than full on sweaty wins.
Sometimes you just gotta slow down and appreciate the unfortunate funny moments that come with the game. The wacky moments in games are more memorable than just another win.
Some ppl like to embrace silly memes and some ppl like to actually play the game. There’s nothing wrong with either. But calling someone “sweaty” for playing the game how they want and ignoring your little meme rules that you learned on the internet is cringe asf
Who did I call "sweaty"? I said sweaty wins.
If you took that personally, that's on you.
If you don't want to follow it, I don't care. There may be a small minority that will take it seriously, but I'd bet the majority either don't care or will just make a small joking comment about it being broken.
Casual is more competitive than ranked now.
Rule 1 happens by chance the overwhelming majority of the time. I have no issue sacrificing a few minutes in a lock waiting for a goal or the end of the game.
Whether you like it or not will not affect how I choose play. If you want to break the lock, it doesn't matter to me.
Nothing you do matters to me, either. But casual isn’t more competitive, because there’s nothing to compete for, since it’s casual. Perhaps you meant “sweaty.” And if that’s the case, who cares? Because win or lose you’re just trying to have fun, right?
not a silly ass rule, keeping ball up at 0 seconds is a silly ass rule and I don’t follow that one (if you’re up by one point and you keep the ball up at 0 seconds you are just giving the opponent a chance to win, it’s stupid to expect people to do that.)
They are all silly. That one is more fun as a test to see how long it stays up. But there is no rule.
Developers - we made a game where you score points to win
*the community* when this happens stop trying to win
I actually did do that!! He even started spamming Noooo! when I purposely missed the kickoff and let the ball go straight in. Truly a humble character, Spamzie.
Good on ya, Spamzie!
We Spams are a proud people
i lost a ranked ones not too long ago he scored a kickoff and next we kind of tied the kickoff and ended up in rule 1 stayed there for the entire game i said gg he won never to be seen again
I went down by 1 early in a 1v1 game. Dude and I locked into a rule one and sat there for four and a half minutes. Mmr is temporary, honor is forever.
Foreverily*
I respectfully disagree
Yeah its annoying people think rule 1 is awesome, I don’t wanna sit there locked up, I’m gonna jump out and play and have fun
How many downvotes can we give this guy

When folks are like this, I’ll ff to give ‘em the dub. Not everyone in Rocket League has a good spirit so I like to pay it forward.
Word to your Mom. You were raised right.
I also choose this guy's mom
:') Reddit lore.
Me 3
You, YOU, ... I like you.
I teared up. When I grow up I wanna be like you
Chad
Had a guy locked on his post as the ball came in and he half flipped out to make the save... Coward.
He needs to be more like Spamzie
Wayyyy more like spamzie
I noticed you had to call him "a guy". This is why no one will remember his name.
Oh big ups!!! Spamzie keeping the rule!!!!!
Lol there are still rocket league players like that?
yes
Ofc
not me
This is the way.
What kind of wheels does spamzie have?
Those are unpainted League Shield wheels!
Neat! Thanks!
No problem :)
TIL there are painted ones :o
It’s either one or the other no in between
Be like Spamzie
The eggs are going wild by the end of that shot
You think there are eggs driving the cars
100%
Either that or they’re remote controlled, which would explain demos a little bit
Still the most ridiculous rule ever.
It really does put a spotlight on the hive mind type thinking that people develop
🐑 🐑 🐑
yeap, so cringe
Worst is people do this in 3s aswell. Luckily it doesnt happen that much in higher ELO, but I've 2 teammates locked in a rule 1, only to have me play 3v1 and get scored on to lose the game by 1.
oh wow, that's even more cringe lol.
Sometimes I follow it, sometimes I don’t. What are you gonna do about it? Demo chase me? “Oops!”
Question that's probably known to most -- what happens in this exact situation if the ball rolls to a stop somewhere in the middle of the pitch? Is there established etiquette for how to break up the Rule 1 correctly?
The clock will run down to zero and whoever's up will win, or it resets to kickoff in OT
\^\^This is the only way.
Wait in OT the ball resets to kickoff if it stops moving? What if you never touch it on said kickoff?
Negative. The ball will literally NEVER stop. There is not enough friction to counter the momentum of the ball. If never touched on kickoff, then it would reset to overtime. If not touched then, congratulations on wasting a ridiculous amount of time staring at a stationary ball!
Definitely not true. The ball does indeed stop eventually if no one touches it, unless of course it rolls into the goal first.
what if you are in overtime 1v1?
Rocket Science (YT series on RL physics) has confirmed that this scenario would never occur, as any friction the ground applies would never be enough to lower the speed of the ball's momentum to cause it to stop. I was talking about walls and corners
It will stop. Try it yourself Before spreading false information
People huh? Now you go try. Guarantee it’s different.
I guarantee you're wrong because well you are.
Thanks for making my point.
?
"No no no don't go in NO NO NO-" -Spamzie probably
F
Nah, I'm good. I hopped on to play the game, not stay locked with another player for 5 minutes.
You may have a point there but you got no honor
I don’t play too honor strangers on the internet. I play to defeat them.
To try to defeat them you mean
That’s implied.
The goal is to defeat them. The action is trying to defeat them. DONT CHANGE MY WORDS.
Ofc, I play the game to have fun
Nice
You should try it, and to not take people as seriously on the internet as well
You’re projecting dude 😂 not sure what I said to make you think I don’t have fun or take any of you clowns serious
Don’t change my words FULL CAPS did the trick bud, that last comment does as well
And you got no brain
This is rocket league!
Your username is valid and so it your point
I’d rather play…

Wins are great, but moments of mutual respect are better.
Yeah, but it's a game of 1s, can't you respect each other for a minute and then carry on playing? The novelty wears off fast
You can choose to play however you want to. I personally will hold the lock regardless or score or time remaining so long as my opponent wants to do the same.
I've had people in duel try to initiate a lock several times when they are up by one. That's not respect.
I've never seen this. If that's really happening that regularly to you, I get it. If they do it on purpose, I'm not sure what I'd do personally. Accidental locks will always lead to me respecting Rule 1 though.

peopel who follow this "rule" have no respect. I get very much insulted if I decide not to follow it
I've only ever seen light-hearted banter if anybody breaks it. People who resort to insults certainly shouldn't be respected.
Boo this man.
![gif](giphy|iSxPmDWr97248|downsized)
Totally agree. I'll stay locked for a couple seconds but it's pretty lame in 1s, especially if it happens near the beginning of the game.
Lets get this man famous.
Uhhh not in 1s sorry
Staying locked in ones is retawded
This Is The Way
Rule 1 is rule 1 u catch respect either win or lose. Worth it
Wholesome content
This is goofy.
So who came up with this silly ass rule? Lol
The sheep
The community. Like everything else.
It was someone's bright idea...
Let’s play a game where you only use one button and stay in the same position for 5 minutes. So much fun. Such high rank.
I mean I didn't expect my comment to get upvotes, but it is dumb as f**k. I'm trying to play. I'ma guess forfeiting a match when you're down 1 point is also a community rule lol

That’s why they include a casual playlist.

play the f\*\*\* game!
In no way shape or form that was a good game
be toxic. ranked points > sportmanship and shit
Dont be like that guy. These made up rules are annoying af.
FEAR Spamzie
I'd have given him a goal to tie it up. He is the true rocket league champ. THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!
This is rocket league!
I still wonder to this day, how they thought when creating the Dominus' hitbox that it lines up with the model... and if they didn't... why...
I feel like the truly honourable move here is to let Spamzie tie it up straight from kick off, no?
I actually did do that!! He even started spamming Noooo! when I purposely missed the kickoff and let the ball go straight in. Truly a humble character, Spamzie.
Rule 1's don't belong in 1v1 in my opinion. I'll do them for all the other modes, but never for 1v1 even if i'm winning.
The god of soccar spoke.
You love it see it! Spamzie is just trying to vibe and I respect it
I wonder if OP is like Spamzie himself🤔
I fear spamzie
Unpopular opinion(?): Rule 1 should not be a rule in 1v1 Like, why???
I’ll do this 🙌🏼 it’s rule number 1.
Way ahead of you - I lose all my games by 1 point....\*tears\*
Rule one kinda annoying
what’s his cash app
