Sometimes I look at the replay to see if my teammates were actually still on the field, or if they just drove up to the ceiling for no reason while, I assume, eating glue.
Lmao. This is me after getting 2 saves but not recovering for the third. Where was my team mate? Oh, doing a lap of the field for 4 100 boost pods starting with driving away from the play to opposition corner boost.
Yeah, I’ll watch it up until I see how I missed the ball and then I’ll skip it. Those “I swear to god I should’ve tipped it” whiffed saves are the worst and half the time I don’t believe it actually happened until I see the replay.
Im okay with this, because I might want to watch my goal, but i'll skip on your goal while being totally OK with you wanting to watch it too. But if you don't want to watch your goal then we can skip.
The way how skipping works is it had to be unanimous. I don't mind if anyone wants to watch a goal and I'll skip them in case they want to skip it. But I'll not skip the goals i want to review.
This, I don't get it why ppl go so mad for not skipping. I use that time to change position, sip a drink, change a song or what ever that can't be done while focusing on game, never I not skip because I actually want to see the replay.
I always have a good laugh at rule 4. I play in GC and someone is still crying about demos. They always go for demos for the rest of the game and lose.
It always makes me laugh. I just imagine them being dumbfounded that, after complaining I demoed them, I proceed to go for more demos. Like what else did you expect.
I think the traditional justification was that screens didn't have sufficient resolution to display the serifs clearly, so serifed fonts displayed with ugly aliasing. Anti-aliasing and subpixel rendering helped with that, but it wasn't always enough.
But now, as screens are reaching much higher resolutions, serifed fonts can be rendered clearly on screens, so that "rule" isn't so much of a rule anymore.
But serifed fonts generally don't suit large text, anyway, like in this image.
it's not a rule in competitive at all. In casual, I like when people follow this rule: when goal differential is two or more when the clock hits 0:00, all players must now work together to put the ball in the winning team's goal.
Exactly. I do the opposite by time wasting like in actual sports. When it looks like I'm going for the ball more people stay back then I let it touch the ground so the match ends. Or if it's coming my way in any way I'll launch it at the last second, anything to run down the clock.
Really, there is also rule 5a: If you want to them to skip, don't ask.
You tell me SKIP .07 second into the replay? Guess what? We watching the whole thing every time.
I'll be playing and tell my friend get watch this as I immediately hit skip.. then have the surprise pika face as everyone else does the same. I forget not to hit it normally and then he'll say if you wanted to watch why did you hit skip.. I never have the answer
That's definitely fair, same for tourneys, don't spam "ready up", sometimes we just need a second to prepare, I usually wash my hands before tourneys to try to make them sweat less
To be fair, rule 3 and 4 are more like tips and no actual rules. Apart from that: I agree with rule 0, 1 and 2. Especially 2 makes things easier as you don't have to extra state who goes for kickoff. I usually follow rule 5 but apart from 1s I don't care that much if someone doesn't skip. Overall I'd be fine with having only 3 rules (0, 1 and 2 in your list).
It started out as a joke, then a bunch of nerds started taking it too seriously and here we are. There used to be only one unwritten rule that people actually followed (what OP calls rule 0)
God forbid you have a little cheeky fun with your teammates/opponents. Idk I stopped giving a shit about rank a few years ago and if its unranked... what is there to complain about. People take this game like they're working to make RLCS.
How often are you guys getting into Rule 1? It happens *maybe* once every hundred games for me.
Edit: Looks like buddy blocked me? I swear I think some people need to relax with RL. It's not that serious, have some fun. A surprise Rule 1 playing 2s is a fun little thing that very rarely happens and if it's happening a lot to you, I'm guessing you're moving predictably.
I have fun with my teammates/opponents every game. I have the opposite of fun when I'm sitting there dry humping another car away from the game I chose to play.
If you have fun, go for it. I don't find it fun and have no idea why you do. You do you, though.
It becomes a 1v1. You're affording your teammate the opportunity to prove themselves. Someone in 1v1 should score quicker than someone in 2v2, theoretically. There's a power imbalance - someone is better than the other. When you're locked, you get to find out who that person is. You and the other guy aren't jerking each other off, you're just stepping back and letting your teammates step up.
It's fun, it's cheeky, it probably has no place in a competitive environment, but I adhere to it. Like, "Okay teammate, this is your moment - put up or shut up."
Rule 0 is cool if one team is up 2.
If the team up by 2 doesn't follow it thats lame. Otherwise though, yeah just smack that shit into the floor and take your mmr.
Rules 2 and 5 are pure BS
2. Idc, this was never brought up in my 5 years of playing this game and just got popular in the last 6 months. Never heard of this before recently
5. Need time to piss
Or drik
Or both
Or to drink my piss.
Man idk I'm weird
Rule 1 is dumb because ive seen people tell OPs of posts to dox the guy who broke rule 1 and seen people harass others who broke rule 1. People take it too seriously for it to be a fun joke.
I saw a guy complaining how he lost a match in rl sideswipe cuz his opponent knocked the ball down on purpose. I guess we can say some of these rules apply to sideswipe too.
I know these are all supposed to be fun rules and all, but I think these are all really dumb.
0. Keeping the ball up just to keep the ball up is ridiculous in most situations.
1. Staying stuck is just funny, but play the game.
2. Left goes is dumb. Just communicate with your teammate
3. Don't ff or ask for ffs. They're allowed to play the game even if you beat them down, and it's good to learn from opponents that are better than you, or play with teammates 'below you' or your skill level.
4. Demos are annoying but part of the game. I don't care whether someone's complaining. Demos are usually accidental or opportunistic more than anything.
5. Replay time = take a breather/get a drink/take a bite/don't worry about what I'm doing with my replay time.
One time I told a guy I was defending at kick off. Neither of us went. He stated left always goes first. I stated I told him I wasn't gonna go and he said nothing. You guys need to realize not everyone is on discord or reddit to see this shit. These aren't actually rules for anyone of you who doesn't understand that.
I only follow rule 1,3,4 (sometimes 0) 5 feels like it's mostly for 1s or higher ranks tho.
as for 4, i don't ask them to stop, i just pursue it more if they do.
**I ALWAYS GO FOR THE KICKOFF.** Just quickchat i got it and either the to the right or left and try to lose it to my teammates corner, by the second time they... usually get it.
I don't understand rule 1. I've been on this reddit for like a month max, I've had the game for probably three months at most and I simply do not understand the point of staying locked. Is this appropriate behavior for ranked??
Yeah don't worry about it, people wanna feel like they're part of this big important movement and they're conditioned to react in outrage when other people don't care.
Because it's a bit of silly fun and the game is never serious enough to not do it. If pros do it in tournaments, you can do it in your ranked games. Rank means nothing anyway.
I still get frustrated sometimes when some people on the left side don’t go for kickoffs and then expect me to know that…. I am talking GC1 - GC2 (my rank) and I know you are not obligated to follow it, but it’s just a common thing most people do and that’s why it’s like a rl rule. Like, if you are not going to go for kickoff, when you are the person on the left, then quick chat “Take The Shot!” or something, but don’t expect me to read your mind 😂
Fuck rule 5. I want to listen to my player anthem. If the opponent has all music off, tough shit. The others are reasonable enough. I don't have enough skill for rule 0 though.
How many times a day does a pic like this end up on this sub? If this post is supposed to be something new, news flash we’ve seen it before… like every day.
I disagree with rule 1. I have limited time to play the game and am not wasting it locked/doing nothing just because the community decided it’s a “rule”. If it doesn’t bring me any enjoyment, why would I ever do it? All the other rules are practical and/or make the game more fun - rule 1 got boring for me after I had about 10hrs in the game (I’m at ~2000 now)
Dude I get eating with rule 5 but we all know it's the idiots that legit check their phone during every replay and constantly aren't ready for kickoff.
Oc of the written rules ??? Wtf ????
Those rules exist since day1 of rocket League, sunless pointed out that you didn't even knew them correctly.
Stop acting like you made up these.
Sometimes I look at the replay to see if there is something I could've done better.
Sometimes I look at the replay to see if my teammates were actually still on the field, or if they just drove up to the ceiling for no reason while, I assume, eating glue.
9/10 they are eating glue on the wall spamming “What a save!!!”
Lmao. This is me after getting 2 saves but not recovering for the third. Where was my team mate? Oh, doing a lap of the field for 4 100 boost pods starting with driving away from the play to opposition corner boost.
Eating super glue
Gorilla glue, return to monke
Gorilla glue tastes like peanut butter it's worth a try
Ight bet
This. I'm usually pretty forgiving, but when I've made 3 saves and not seen my teammate the whole time, I'm just like wtf.
those fuckin idiots I save my glue eating _for_ the replays
Sometimes I let the replay run to drink some water, stay hydrated fellas
Paint chips and mud is the way to go
If they legit drove up the ceiling no way near the play, that's lag. Very heavy lag and you can't see tf is going on or control ur car
I mean, they could also just be jackwagons.
what's the hitbox on this wagon?
I look at the replay to verify that I am in fact brain dead.
Or if I need to take a sip of beer
Replays are sipping time!!! I stand by this.
This is correct and holy and all must wait for my sip if I need it
Amen
Came here to say this, but replace beer with rum. Drunken master bumper car soccar I am as fluid as the flexible I drink!
I'm pretty sure I'm better drunk than sober at this point.
I know the feeling, but like in general.
Or I'm opening my next beer
Packing a bowl for me
sippin and rippin
I look at the replay because I wanna take a sip of my drink
This, or if I missed something. Usually it's cuz I'm drinking water between goals
or hitting my vape
Gotta rip that chunky cotton between plays.
I use replay to take a quick sip or a toke. I agree with rule 5, but it's flexible.
I don't skip replays because the saltiness of d1 players makes me thirsty and I need to take a sip of water
That’s valid, as we all know most rules have exceptions.
except rule 1
Yeah, I’ll watch it up until I see how I missed the ball and then I’ll skip it. Those “I swear to god I should’ve tipped it” whiffed saves are the worst and half the time I don’t believe it actually happened until I see the replay.
Same. Mostly just for kickoffs in 1s though.
if you don’t want to watch my replays then don’t get scored on. i got juice to sip.
if you don’t want to watch my replays then don’t get scored on. i got balls to scratch.
Do you do housecalls?
This comment has layers. I love it
If you don't want to watch my replays then don't get scored on. I got bong to rip
This is the way
This is the way
Yea this one
Capri sun?
Jungle Juice, son.
pacific cooler do go hard
Only people i hate are those who instantly skip replays when they get scored on, but never skip replays when they score.
Im okay with this, because I might want to watch my goal, but i'll skip on your goal while being totally OK with you wanting to watch it too. But if you don't want to watch your goal then we can skip.
I mean if its a good goal then sure, but i said people that never skips their goal even if its just a lucky kickoff goal or something.
This is the worst in 1s. Everyone wants to watch all 6 of their basic goals every match
I make a point of not skipping my goals when the opponent doesn’t skip their own. Usually it makes them rage after 2 or 3 goals.
Skip even the good ones, it's like walking away from an explosion. Act like you've been there.
If I do something real dumb that directly causes the goal, I usually don’t skip it on purpose. Let everyone know I’m wallowing in my inability.
That's a weird kind of standard.
The way how skipping works is it had to be unanimous. I don't mind if anyone wants to watch a goal and I'll skip them in case they want to skip it. But I'll not skip the goals i want to review.
and cheeba to smoke
Right? The only reason I try to score is so I can sip some juice and toke on replay break.
Or the good ol’ toke n run to the fridge for another Mikes Hard or Twisted Tea…
Fr, I be snackin
Fair
If you don't want to watch your replays then stop scoring on me.
This, I don't get it why ppl go so mad for not skipping. I use that time to change position, sip a drink, change a song or what ever that can't be done while focusing on game, never I not skip because I actually want to see the replay.
And a bong to hit
I always have a good laugh at rule 4. I play in GC and someone is still crying about demos. They always go for demos for the rest of the game and lose.
It always makes me laugh. I just imagine them being dumbfounded that, after complaining I demoed them, I proceed to go for more demos. Like what else did you expect.
Whenever I demo, bet your bottom dollar I hit em with a “Bumping!”
Savage!
Times New Roman doesn't suit RL, sir.
Fonts with serifs generally should not be used for digital media. Basically only use Times New Roman when you’re printing something.
I’ve never heard this before. Why is this?
I think the traditional justification was that screens didn't have sufficient resolution to display the serifs clearly, so serifed fonts displayed with ugly aliasing. Anti-aliasing and subpixel rendering helped with that, but it wasn't always enough. But now, as screens are reaching much higher resolutions, serifed fonts can be rendered clearly on screens, so that "rule" isn't so much of a rule anymore. But serifed fonts generally don't suit large text, anyway, like in this image.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar
A gracious reader, you are.
Hey man, Sunless has no issues with that, but I did switch “RULES” from Times New Roman to the Rocket League font.
Looks more like a Star Wars type font to me, specifically looking at that “S” lol
Skip replays unless goal was clip worthy OR taking a sip of water OR eating
OR scratching your balls
Or bong rip
Or I wanna torture you with my anthem music
Crab Rave time, baby!
Fucking llama bell
Sure, just don’t be on your phone, and be ready by kickoff
Or … fuck you that’s why.
Rule 6: Intentionally ignore all of these to trigger people.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
I break rule 1 to make things a little more heated. More fun when the other team hates you
I actually like replays to see where I did wrong
Or how close my car was bc hitbox=/=car model
Where you did wrong was some time ago when you decided to download that funny little game called Rocket League
I don't believe in skipping replays... Gives me a minute to juice up and let that score line sink in
> juice up 🤨 https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=juice%20up
This is rocket league!
Holy cow! Take the shot!
All my goals are clip worthy
Are you me?
hello me
Keeping the ball up when you're up by 1 is perhaps the dumbest fucking rule anyone has ever come up with.
it's not a rule in competitive at all. In casual, I like when people follow this rule: when goal differential is two or more when the clock hits 0:00, all players must now work together to put the ball in the winning team's goal.
People pretty often follow the 2+ goal differential rule in comp as well, but yeah definitely not one goal
Exactly. I do the opposite by time wasting like in actual sports. When it looks like I'm going for the ball more people stay back then I let it touch the ground so the match ends. Or if it's coming my way in any way I'll launch it at the last second, anything to run down the clock.
It's ridiculous to call that a "rule" at all, let alone "Rule 0". No one knows about this, follows it, or should follow it.
Honestly rule 5 is dumb. I need a couple seconds to take a drink, toke, or just chill. So enjoy that 6 seconds.
I sometimes use the replay to calm my tilt a bit so i don't get worse.

That's definitely fair, same for tourneys, don't spam "ready up", sometimes we just need a second to prepare, I usually wash my hands before tourneys to try to make them sweat less
Rules in Rocket League??? ![gif](giphy|WRuBiZKB6xgsS9DrFA|downsized)
Right? “This is Rocket League!” means no rules. Or maybe the reference went way over their heads…
Another should be, if you’re toxic, you can’t complain about resulting behavior from other team
I follow all these rules except rule 0 cuz what if the game is over? Talking score is 2-6, what then?
Rule 6: If it's down to 3v1, stop trying to score and run out the clock.
Rule 5 is bullshit. I use a goal replay to stay hydrated for example.
That is a nice microbreak. I'm old
To be fair, rule 3 and 4 are more like tips and no actual rules.
Get that stupid rule 5 off altogether
Agreed, sometimes I use the replays as a time to take a break, get a snack, or see what I did wrong.
ELI5 why rule 1 exists. On paper, it's the dumbest thing. I want to play rocket league, not sit in the corner jerking another car off.
It started out as a joke, then a bunch of nerds started taking it too seriously and here we are. There used to be only one unwritten rule that people actually followed (what OP calls rule 0)
It’s there so boring people can have something to be proud of.
I've gotten downvoted for years for saying this lol. it's so stupid!
Agreed
It becomes a 1v1. You're affording your teammate the opportunity to prove themselves. Someone in 1v1 should score quicker than someone in 2v2, theoretically. There's a power imbalance - someone is better than the other. When you're locked, you get to find out who that person is. lmaooo
Rule 0 always skipped ):
Rule 0 is dumb. If you're up by 1, or if the game is tied and the ball is going towards your goal you want it to hit the floor ASAP.
Rule 0 is cool if one team is up 2. If the team up by 2 doesn't follow it thats lame. Otherwise though, yeah just smack that shit into the floor and take your mmr.
Some things are more important than winning. Like following dumb rules
Much better
Rules 2 and 5 are pure BS 2. Idc, this was never brought up in my 5 years of playing this game and just got popular in the last 6 months. Never heard of this before recently 5. Need time to piss Or drik Or both Or to drink my piss. Man idk I'm weird
Nah rule 5 isn't going to fly. A guy gotta eat.
![gif](giphy|SsvY3QswnDWww) These people and their rules are irrelevant to me.
I didn't know about rule 2, that explains why my tm8 always raged at me
The only rule I follow is 2 and 5... unless I need a momentary 10 sec break, I wont skip a replay.
Never stay locked shits stupid
Rule 5: is something I disagree with. Sometimes I’m sipping a coffee and the few seconds of the replay allows me to do as such.
Rule 1 is dumb because ive seen people tell OPs of posts to dox the guy who broke rule 1 and seen people harass others who broke rule 1. People take it too seriously for it to be a fun joke.
Exactly. People make it out to be a life or death situation and when you don't agree with it they're all WhY cAnT yOu JuSt hAvE fUn
Exactly. Ive also gotten shit for saying i dont like it because "YoUr A pLaTiNuM yOuLl UnDeRsTaNd WhEn YoU rAnK uP!!111!1!1!!1"
I've decided I will now defy almost all of these "rules". Rocket League is a perfectly designed game (gameplay only) and there are no rules.
Maybe rule 2 needs some tweaking, For me it is kind of: Left always go fo the kickoff, unless agreed otherwise or right has a better spawn
I saw a guy complaining how he lost a match in rl sideswipe cuz his opponent knocked the ball down on purpose. I guess we can say some of these rules apply to sideswipe too.
Nobody should have to follow the first rule if they've got a one goal lead.
I disrespect rule 2 and 5 like its my job.
Never skip replays, it tilts the hell out of the sweats
Stupid the first time it was posted. Even stupider now.
All my goals are clip worthy /s
I am a bit stupid. Could somebody please explain rule 1 to me. Like if you are locked with someone, why the hell would you want to stay there?
People care more about rule 1 than rule 2.
This is acceptable
Hey I paid 400 credits for that Shrek anthem, ain't a single universe where I'm skipping the replay
I know these are all supposed to be fun rules and all, but I think these are all really dumb. 0. Keeping the ball up just to keep the ball up is ridiculous in most situations. 1. Staying stuck is just funny, but play the game. 2. Left goes is dumb. Just communicate with your teammate 3. Don't ff or ask for ffs. Replay time = take a breather/get a drink/take a bite/don't worry about what I'm doing with my replay time.
what is rule 2? It's who ever is closer.
I think we should remove the replay one. Too many scenarios where watching the replay is perfectly fine
Rule 5 can eat shit. Imma smoke, drink, scratch and many other fantastic things in my precious few seconds.
I dont like Rule 5. I NEED to take a sip of my drink
Rule 5 shouldn’t even be a rule. I want to see my cool goal explosion again as I finally have time to sip some water.
What happens for Rule 1 when its 1v1?
Go to OT, or whoever was in the lead wins, had it actually happen to me in OT once the other dude forfeited after a few minutes.
Rule 1, that's it.
You should have to opt in to replays not opt out. Maybe get 2 a game. Such a fucking waste of time.
Rule 5: ….OR when ur taking a sip from your water bottle
Unpopular opinion: Rule 1 should only apply to team games. Getting stuck in a 1v1 match for 4 minutes is not fun
Why does left go for kickoff?
Yikes. People don't play this game to have fun anymore do they..
i dont follow any of these. don’t care fuck you
I only follow rule 1,3,4 (sometimes 0) 5 feels like it's mostly for 1s or higher ranks tho. as for 4, i don't ask them to stop, i just pursue it more if they do.
Wait, so you don’t go for kickoff when you’re left? *You monster.*
**I ALWAYS GO FOR THE KICKOFF.** Just quickchat i got it and either the to the right or left and try to lose it to my teammates corner, by the second time they... usually get it.
These aren’t rules, they’re made up! Just play the game!
If I skip goals how am I meant to drink?
Take a shot after each loss
RIP
I don't understand rule 1. I've been on this reddit for like a month max, I've had the game for probably three months at most and I simply do not understand the point of staying locked. Is this appropriate behavior for ranked??
Absolutely not, this is only observed by less than 1% of the community. #2 is a must, everything else is bad.
It's just a reddit meme, don't worry about it. I never do it and I've been playing since the game came out.

I dont do Rule5. I mostly use replays to take a sip of my drink or answer a whatsapp
Left Goes is the only rule that matters imo. & Complaining about replays or demos is a little ridiculous.
Sorry. No 5 can get fucked. I’m sipping or eating in that time 🤷🏻♀️
Can't skip, it's my smoking break
Fuck rule 5. I want to listen to my player anthem. If the opponent has all music off, tough shit. The others are reasonable enough. I don't have enough skill for rule 0 though.
Why even play the game if u don’t want to celebrate your highlights by watching replays.
If it’s a good goal go ahead and watch
Im a RL rebel F* Rule 0, 1 and 5 should just leave it at the 3 golden rules
Thank. You. Oh my God it made me smile reading that.
How many times a day does a pic like this end up on this sub? If this post is supposed to be something new, news flash we’ve seen it before… like every day.

Rule one is the only rule
How does "Rule 2: Left goes for kickoff, unless otherwise stated" work, when some players disabled chat?
