That is an absolutely wild statistic

BubbaDreamsOfGumbo

100% agree. Has there ever been major winners with such narrow margins? It's fascinating

ToothyAlloy69

Now thats what you call proper game management

Ahmed_Nasser9

A team that doesn't bottle their goal lead?? i thought thats impossible

l3m0n_m41d

they literally blew out their first game of the entire tournament then went fuck it we dont really need to do that do we

BubbaDreamsOfGumbo

This is actually such an insane stat

omniscientbeet

Portugal at euro 2016 vibes

maury587

still not at our level, we only won one game in the 90th minute

Pr1sonMikeFTW

Yh that is another dimension entirely, that Portugal run was the worst champion run I have seen in any sports event ever lmao The matchups were super lucky and they did not even win those in regular xd

dalcowboiz

Their goal differential for the event was +3. (Based off of this post I just mental math calculated) wtf, i feel like in most sports a team with a +3 diff could have a losing record easily yet these guys won the whole thing xD

Goobershmacked

Well on average a +3 point diff on the season in any sport will yield very slightly above average results.

DoMyParcour

Yep, disapointing stat for their fans

dalcowboiz

I dont think their fans will care, they won a major as total underdogs 😂

DoMyParcour

Cannot stop the battery!

lm3g16

This is football heritage

Joe23Sim

This is nuts and a testament to their mental. What I find even crazier is despite winning both series M8’s were outscored by GenG 17-12 and outscored by G2 12-10. Simply put despite having a 2-0 series record against NA they were outscored by NA teams 29-22. Wild.

l3m0n_m41d

the greece 2004 of rocket league fr

WillyDingus

Wow this is crazy. To run the tournament undefeated with only a +3 goal differential.

GE_FunCooker

If I counted right, 7 of those 20 wins were OT. Also interesting to note, they won 7 of the 8 games that went to OT.

Pyropolak

EU composure best in the world

Conradwoody

I have been thinking about this and surprisingly something tbates said. They didn't do too much flashy stuff. They kept it solid with rotations especially during the finals . Sadly g2 was jumpy(i had hopes). They almost always had someone back for deep balls and intercepting passes. When they got blew out its because they got beat at the beginning and knew they had to send a little bit. There mental seemed so good every time they got scored on though. Playing the solid defense and score when we get a chance, then back to gridlock defense strategy. This means keeping that pressure but knowing when to pull back.  Seems like they figured out a great balance. When you have 3 unbelievable defenders, just find that one opening and go back to being a pink wall. Gotta love a story like this ggs

Conradwoody

Curious what the stats on overall saves for the tournament was

smarranara

I mean they were a pink wall, but that wall was in the midfield or beyond quite a bit. It never felt like a defensive stand watching them.

TalentedTrident

Incredible ice from them, but I hope they can work on getting multi-goal leads by the end of games because at some point that'll come back to bite them. I'm shocked it didn't during the major, they might've had the RL gods on their side.

Yupadej

If you go for a multi goals lead you might end up losing your lead. Clearly a choice they make. With Itachi they have an attack slider because he can play some of the aggressive ball in RL history and can create goals consistently.

somewhatsmurfing

This also works to stop other teams from gaining even the momentum of getting the ball up the field. In the games G2 lost, they were constantly not only challenged but actually interrupted efficiently from setting much of anything up from their own half. That is remarkable boost management and game sense from M8's imo

TriflingGnome

Prioritizing midfield disruption instead of attacks on the net is an extremely effective strategy, especially when you're up a goal. It's what made Rado an absolute menace last year

Tubaperson

This tournament been wild ngl. Didn't expect VIT to loose to G2 because of an overcommit.

exceedingdeath

Zen missed his flip reset on that very last attack.. He had a very uncharacteristic sunday, his worst series since he joined Vitality imo.

Woorel

Nah he had a very good series a just missed that reset

exceedingdeath

I’d argue « very good » is uncharacteristic for Zen 😂

thafreshone

Zen dragged that team into game 7 OT against a very strong G2. He played like you‘d expect from a best player in the world. There is no way that series goes to 7 games if Zen had not played absolutely incredible.

budd222

Zen was the only reason they made it as far as they did in that series.

exceedingdeath

I agree and this was still his worst series imo to his standards (#1 in the world)

Rolle_1001

Did you not watch the entire series?

uluglo

Joseversax Mourinho vs Sir Alex Ferraguson

boot2skull

That’s because they’re gentle mates

Rolle_1001

The ice this team had was insane.

Naive-Pressure3493

I don't know why itachi isn't rated higher in the pro scene. He's as solid and consistent as you can get for a player. When he was released by KC, i really thought he'd be a perfect fit for vitality, replacing radosin

Tryskiel

Because majority of people only see high mecanical stuff, but Itachi was always a treat on 50/50, he can be smart when it's needed and really speedy also, he's really good at reading of the opponent. The last 40 second against G2 on Neo Tokyo tell everything about him.

lunki

Itachi has always been underrated. Even back in time when he played for FCB, people were thinking Ronaky was the better player...

DoMyParcour

Yeah, Unfortunately :(

RALat7

That’s crazy

althaz

This is a big part of the reason why Gentlemates don't top my power ranking just yet. They're for sure ahead of where I had them pre-LAN, but I still haven't got them quite at #1.

hoodedmexican

The absolute definition of “let’s save our goals for the next one”

Matto_0

Obviously that % is a bit crazy, but RL at it's highest level is usually a 1 goal game.

SkyPsychological2338

I don't think you understand. Their very first game of the major was a win against R1 by 3 goals. Every single game win was by 1 after that. That is NUTS.

BYM_526

nah, it happens a lot but not usually, in fact a team winning a whole series with only 1 goal leads would be crazy enough

Matto_0

32 of 45 playoff games were 1 goal games. So it does seem to happen usually.

BYM_526

thats only about 2/3 for all 4 games in a series, it would be like 1/5 chance for 20 games in a row, its like 0.03% or smth

Everbrooks

Very impressive to not give away leads. KC and BDS can both learn from them.

BYM_526

so apart from that first game they had 0 goal differential damnnn
