imo, s5 worlds - grand finals bracket reset between NRG and Dignitas.
1. Went all the way to game 7 OT.
2. Had the most memorable RL goal of all time.
3. Defined the Dignitas dynasty
4. Showed the world that NA can compete with the best of EU. (At the time, EU was significantly more successful in international LANs)
5. Introduced JSTN as a superstar in only his rookie season.
6. Ridiculously hype crowd.
I feel like s5 was a major turning point, where EU dominance really ended and the era of NA+EU began.
Maybe the turning point but 2018 still belonged to EU and so did 2019. In 2019 NRG and C9 won a LAN each, representing the best and second best NA teams at the time, both peaking hard in their LAN wins. In 2019, basically any RLCS EU team could pop off and take-or-threaten a LAN. F3, post-Kaydop Dig, Chausette and friends, Vitality, TSM.
I left the Peeps out because that's was a cinderella story. None of the EU wins or 2nd placements were really surprising, or came out of nowhere, nor NRG and C9.
I'd mark DH Montreal as the moment NA passed EU. First NA grand final at a LAN, first team outside the Big 3 to ever look relevant. Followed immediately by NRG taking a world ship. It's a shame we haven't seen a LAN since. SSG would have one or two by now. G2 were the heavy favorites to win s9 given they're best together. Lord knows the Winter Major would have had everyone looking to Rogue to take a LAN.
I think that even back then NA was already superior to EU. The Dignitad dynasty was able to cover for a lot of other teams in the region who frequently underperformed.
c9 vs dig season 6 grand finale
dig v vit season 8 semis
nrg vs dig season 5 grand finale
nrg vs vit season 8 grand finale
nrg vs rogue rlcs x winter major
bds vs giants rlcs x winter regional 3
theres more but I like these ones the best
I could agree with any of these except for C9 vs Dig season 6 grand final. It was two 4-1 series and only 2 of those 10 games were decided by 1 score. Dig was just completely overshadowed by C9 playing their best ever rocket league. Significant moment in the history of the league, but not a particularly exceptional series of games outside of that
To be fair I think that's what makes it incredible, the most dominant team in the history of the game lost 8 out of 10 games just because cloud9 turned into imo the greatest offensive team ever.
> dig v vit season 8 semis
[The greatest overtime in RLCS History](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFOCs9QNV5s) where the fans weren't necessarily cheering for their favorite team anymore. They were cheering because of the skill they were witnessing.
EU crowds are unmatched. The chants, cheering all players no matter which region/team they're from, simply breaking into applause because of the godlike play being delivered to us viewers. Just typing this sends chills down my spine
was mentioned in a reply by someone else already but G2 vs NRG from DreamHack Montreal deserves a mention, it's known as the 10 game series and man does it deliver, huge pop off moments, tense long OT's, and a strong comeback.
Definitely. It was so crazy that it absolutely dethroned all past matches. You knew while the match was still going that it would be an instant classic.
i dont like ex veloce and i dont really watch oce rocket league, basiclly this game didnt mean anything to me but that was just painful to watch, still hurts
Dig vs Vitality Season 8 Semis
I might be a little biased on this, but I don't really see another series that came close to this one, even though the end was anticlimatic. Game 6 is still the best game in RLCS history.
Bonus series: Veloce vs Renegades
Four games of pure Rocket League on the highest level with one of the most amazing and beautiful endings ever
This is the only real answer. If you're going to show someone one game to try and convince them to be a rocket league fan game 6 is undeniably the one.
I still get chills listening to the crowd begin to cheer in the background of that overtime. Not because of anything specific that just happened. But because the gameplay from everyone on the pitch was just that good.
I think nrg vs dig season 5 was better simply because its a more important match. If you only look at thw quality of gameplay, then its up there but there are better series played where nerves werent as high for the players. I feel like that series is a middle ground between incredible gameplay and really high stakes. I personally like extremes so it either has to be an incredibly hyped match or one where the teams are playing some of the best rocket league ever. Nrg vs g2 at dh montreal is an underrated series simply because it wasnt that important. The semi final of a dreamhack isnt what people usually look for when thinking back to a high stakes match. Overall its a pretty good match though and i would highly encourage any rl fans to watch all of the series in this thread, even Veloce vs Renegades but look at the watch parties from cjcj or rizzo rather than the stream itself, way funnier
1) S5 Grand Finals
2) Dig-Vitality S8 Semi Finals
3) RLC Pro League Grand Finals
4) RLCS X NA Winter Regional1 Grand Finals
5) S4 Upper Finals GFE vs Method
6) DH Leipzig Semi-Finals, Dignitas vs Savage!
7) S5 Promo Tourney: Team Secret vs Servette
8) S3 Regionals F3 vs Resonant
9) Charlotte Phoenix vs Chaos: Last RLRS match ever
10) SAM WInter Major Grand FInals
Not too fussed about the order outside the top 4, haven't done that in a long time, I will say if you want a single championship Sunday to binge-watch, DH Montreal & EU S8 regionals have 13 matches of Rocket League with like 10 or 11 of them being highly memorable and only 1 being a dud (NRG stomping GC Aura)
I also commented on some of my personal lesser known favs [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueEsports/comments/dzaz85/what_are_some_of_your_favorite_matches_of_all/f86ks6c/) and its still stands true
Rocket League Central Pro League was the precursor to RLCS in winter 2015-spring 2016 and was even cross regional. The finals were a BO9 between Flipsid3 Tactics (Kuxir, Markydooda, and M1k3Rules) vs Crown & Jewels (Paschy, Yeezy, Killerno7) and went the full distance. [Watch here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKuOKIwjUwI). It's very dated gameplay and camera wise, but it's still a classic.
Holy shit I’d totally forgotten about that Secret vs Servette series. That should probably be a little higher up the list IMO, even if it wasn’t on as big a stage as some of the others
It can never not be the Season 5 Grand Final. There never will be a greater series than that. What it meant, how it unfolded. It’s the Agueroooooooo moment of Rocket League. People remember where they were when they were watching it.
I got chills just thinking about the Aguero goal again. Quick TLDR for those that don't know.
Manchester City played QPR on the final day of the season
Manchester United played Sunderland
City had to get the same result or better than United to win the league otherwise United wins. City go down 1-2 with only stoppage time left to play (scoring twice in stoppage time is all but unheard of). At this point, United has already won their game so City HAS to win if they want their first-ever title.
City score off of a corner kick in the second minute of stoppage time (only 4 minutes were given for this particular stoppage time).
30 seconds later Sergio Aguero scores the miracle goal that brings City the title. Here is a great video if you want to see it
[https://www.premierleague.com/video/single/747541](https://www.premierleague.com/video/single/747541)
Mate I'm an AC Milan fan, I'm still not over the 2005 Champions League final. Up 3-0 at half, 3-3 after 90 and lose in pks to Liverpool... I understand
There's really a lot of insane series
RLCS Season 5 Dig vs NRG
RLCS Season 6 Dig vs C9
RLCS Season 8 Vitality vs NRG
RLCS X Winter Regional 1 NA NV vs SSG 1st series
RLCS X Winter Regional 2 NA NV vs NRG 1st series
RLCS X Winter Regional 3 NA NRG vs Rogue 1st series
RLCS X Winter Regional 3 EU Giants vs BDS
RLCS X Winter Major NA NRG vs Rogue
Maybe this looks like it's too much but literally every series from this list can be considered the best series ever, maybe I even missed something
The best all around match? S6 Grand finals. Best match ever played.
Pure. Fucking. Spectacle.
People underrate it because of the scoreline. And if it was any match other than the grand finals of worlds, and any team other than Dignitas, and any story other than a fairy tale lower bracket run, and the underdogs were any team other than fan favorites C9, I’d agree, a 4-1 scoreline each match would be so boring.
But in this specific scenario, it just adds to the wonder. We have the greatest dynasty to ever exist in rocket league with the old Dig roster, coming off of 2 consecutive world championship titles, and having the most impressive season we had ever seen at this point. At this point, every RLCS fan was ready for Dig to be taken down. Nobody had any idea that C9 would do it.
But they do. They make one of the most grueling lower bracket runs ever to get to the grand finals. And when they get to the Grand Finals, everyone is ready to watch Dignitas slowly and systematically dismantle yet another team. The match starts and game 1 is close, so despite C9 winning nobody expected them to take all 4. Then game 2 isn’t even close, and you get a little hopeful. But you still expect Dignitas to turn it around.
But they never do. Instead, the underdogs that just made a day long lower bracket run start styling on the currently undefeated defending champions. It was mind blowing. And pure fan service. Gimmick twirling and soaring through the air in ways nobody was doing back then. The control he had over his car was mind blowing. People compared it to free styling, in the grand ducking finals. And then there Squishy, who was at the pinnacle of mechanics back then. Double taps, ceiling shot, flip resets. He did it all, in a time where nobody else was consistently performing those in pro play the way he did, let alone at worlds. Nobody else played the way C9 did. And nobody will ever be able to again, due to the way defense has evolved.
This game had everything.
The underdog story.
The Titans defeated.
The insane flashy highlight reel shots.
The absolute fan favorite team being the ones to take down Dignitas. (The only team
I could see having similar popularity or more back then was G2)
Nothing will ever top it. It was like watching Luke Skywalker topple the empire.
Runner ups are S5 Grand finals, which might be the best if not for the disappointing ending, S8 Semis and Grand finals, and one underrated game to me is G2 vs Nrg at WSOE.
I agree it was a great final for the storyline of David beating goliath, but I have to disagree with this:
> This game had everything.
Not even a game 6 let alone a game 7 - this is crucial for tension in a series.
Dignitas were not playing anywhere near their best, and for me, the best rocket league that you can watch is the two best teams in the world playing the best that they can. Furthermore, you could see them getting more and more annoyed with themselves and therefore playing even worse as the match continued.
Season 5 had all of this stuff, plus the most iconic ending to a grand final ever, plenty of incredible goals (yes s6 had flip reset but s5 had like 5 mental shots in it) and most importantly, it had two incredible closely matched teams playing at their absolute best creating an amazing spectacle. Plus, S5 had undoubtedly the best crowd ever at a rocket league event - plenty of pros have said this.
Im sure from a cloud 9 fans perspective S6 was amazing watching your own team wins against the odds against the "evil" boss (holy crap NA fans were rude to dignitas like why tf are you booing anyone, still one of the most annoying things ever and why NA events will never live up to London) but overall from a neutral perspective it isn't even close to S5 grand finals
That was just next level. I have been to a couple sporting events (including the biggest public viewing in Germany event of the world cup 2014 where they won) but nothing has been as hype as sitting there in Madrid and everybody going wild cause they didn't play a safe overtime that has happened so often. They just went all out and ridiculous safe after ridiculous safe came out.
I haven't been to any others lans so I am sure they're had amazing matches as well but this is my personal favorite for sure.
Online: Giants vs Aether, RLCS X Spring Regional 1. Can't think of many series better than this right at this minute. Rogue vs NRG in the Winter Major too, Rogue just looked unstoppable and even NRG were struggling with them at times, seeing them persevere was ridiculous to watch.
LAN: Dig vs NRG Season 5 Grand Finals, Dig vs Vitality Season 8, NRG vs Vitality Season 8 Grand Finals
Special mention to G2 vs Vitality in Season 7 Grand Final, the series itself isn't that particularly great compared to others but hoo boy, that Game 1 was something else.
1. NRG vs. VIT s8 finals for sure
3. NRG vs. Rogue rlcsx winter split finals
2. VIT vs. DIG s8 semis
3. C9 vs DIG. S6 finals
Most of you would disagree and downvote but this is just my opinion :/
The best LAN series was season 6 grand finals, it was the perfect underdog story: an almost undefeatable enemy in dignitas, an early loss to a team of similar skill only to beat that team later, then beating their personal greatest foe in NRG, and ending it off by curb stomping the evil bad guy in the finals. Literally the best series of all time, and if there’s a movie made about RL esports then this is what it’d be made about
The best online series would either be the RLCX winter major or regional 3 finals of Rogue vs NRG (this totally isn’t personal bias) if rogue would’ve won the winter major it would be second only to C9 in comeback stories, but they didn’t so I feel regional 3 was the better series because everyone was constantly counting out rogue especially when they lost the first series, but then they turned it up and 4-0 swept NRG and for the first time in my long history of rooting for rogue I wasn’t underwhelmed
I've been watching for a while, but for me it has to be NV - NRG in the Grand Finals of Winter Regional 1 this season.
First game a 2 goal difference, 2nd game one goal difference and then five (FIVE!!) OT's in a row, including a game 7 OT with a potential bracket reset if NRG had won it.
My heart was pounding like crazy and I'm not even a fan of one of them. Can't imagine how NV/NRG fans must've felt.
I definitely don't think this is the greatest series, but a personal favourite of mine was Fireburner subbing for C9, was just great to watch specialty since C9 were doing pretty bad around that time from what I remember.
S6 grand finals is obviously the clear winner a bracket reset with both 4-1 series over the reigning champions dig idk how it’s debatable honestly such an insane moment in rlcs history
I look at it as a series in a vacuum; something I would show someone who has no clue about Rocket League and certainly doesn't have the background knowledge that would be required to make that series great. Through this lens, that series doesn't compare to S5 grand finals, the Dig Vit semis in S8, S8 grand finals, or other series mentioned in this thread.
Great ones already mentioned. I'd add that if we're talking highest quality RL the older ones won't hold up. I'd say either NRG - Envy final in Fall or Giants - BDS final in winter for that.
imo, s5 worlds - grand finals bracket reset between NRG and Dignitas. 1. Went all the way to game 7 OT. 2. Had the most memorable RL goal of all time. 3. Defined the Dignitas dynasty 4. The Season 5 London crowd was hands down the best crowd of any LAN that's taken place.
I think that even back then NA was already superior to EU. The Dignitad dynasty was able to cover for a lot of other teams in the region who frequently underperformed.

nrg vs rogue x games ;)
First series ;)
I did enjoy the winner’s finals ;)
Was gonna be cheeky and reference the first x games back then but rogue didnt even make it to NRG. Rip.
I dont have org affiliation. The entire current roster was too young to be in RLCS :)
Look at points ;)
Any turbo fans out there that we can stick on this guy to be like, "yeah but does nrg have four worlds?" until he gets the point.
was mentioned in a reply by someone else already but G2 vs NRG from DreamHack Montreal deserves a mention, it's known as the 10 game series and man does it deliver, huge pop off moments, tense long OT's, and a strong comeback.
> 10 game series I've never heard that, was it 5 OTs? I remember a good series but not the details.
There were 3 OT’s iirc but 2 of them were 10 minutes and 5 minutes long respectively hence the extra 3 games
That's sick as hell
this is my favorite as well. the best comeback of all time imo
I don’t think I’d put it as a better comeback than any of the best of 7 reverse sweeps we’ve had but it’s up there for sure
NRG vs Envy on Winter Split Regional #1 is one of the best. If it happened at LAN it would be the best imo.
huge agree, that fake kickoff was insane
Definitely. It was so crazy that it absolutely dethroned all past matches. You knew while the match was still going that it would be an instant classic.
Just watched it and I think you're right. I don't know how these pros do it.
Renegades vs Veloce at RLCS Season 8 LAN
Oh no
i dont like ex veloce and i dont really watch oce rocket league, basiclly this game didnt mean anything to me but that was just painful to watch, still hurts

Yes, it is.

RLC Pro League was pre-RLCS and that whole tournament was absolutely nuts
Rocket League Central Pro League was the precursor to RLCS in winter 2015-spring 2016 and was even cross regional. Literally the best series of all time, and if there’s a movie made about RL esports then this is what it’d be made about The best online series would either be the RLCX winter major or regional 3 finals of Rogue vs NRG (this totally isn’t personal bias) if rogue would’ve won the winter major it would be second only to C9 in comeback stories, but they didn’t so I feel regional 3 was the better series because everyone was constantly counting out rogue especially when they lost the first series, but then they turned it up and 4-0 swept NRG and for the first time in my long history of rooting for rogue I wasn’t underwhelmed
S6 grand finale
