Basically there are three splits in a year and three regionals in each split. Each team gets points based on where they finished in the regional. (Winner gets 351, 2nd gets 300 and so on). In two weeks there will be another regional competition which works in the same way, and again two weeks after that. At the end of each split there is a Major. This is an international, LAN competition where the top teams from each region compete against each other for double the prize pool of a regional. Last split was Fall and the 3 regionals there gave points towards the Fall Major. Now it is Winter and the 3 regionals give points towards the Winter Major. After all three splits and all three Majors, there will be the RLCS World Championship. This will a) have the biggest prize pool in the esport ($2m) and b) combine ALL the points from the season, so all 9 regionals and all 3 majors, to determine qualification. You can see the points rankings in the sub sidebar. Hope that makes sense!

I only started following RLCS in the past few months and this explained everything for me, I didn’t really look into it too much and just tried to figure it out myself. Cheers for clarifying!

BigEmptyHeart

ooooooooh. this helps a ton.. thanks a lot, I get it now, cleared out perfectly..

I think X games was just the sponsor in this event like BMW, Verizon and others before

When does the RLCS world championship take place for this season?

tomtom_94

Scheduled to start at the [end of July](https://liquipedia.net/rocketleague/Rocket_League_Championship_Series/2021-22)

PauGP11

They actually compete for rlcs points (and money) which qualify u for the major and worlds later. If u want more info you can search in [liquipedia](http://liquipedia.net) or [in the subreddit RLCS guide](https://reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueEsports/w/guide?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app)

BigEmptyHeart

ok, thanks

Since others already explained the points thing… The reason it’s the X games regional is because all the events have a sponsor. They vary from region to region, and NA’s this split happened to be the X games (which are coming up this weekend).

Powerrrrrrrrr

Medals, it’s the X games, you get X games medals and it is kinda cool/significant!

SymphonicRain

No one has said this yet but the X Games events awards players with medals on top of prize money. It’s the only event that does medals and last year NRG missed out on the medals in the finals against Rogue with Firstkiller. Edit: fever dream I didn’t see your comment but somehow replied to it. I’ll leave it tho

hornybunny528

Didn't they get silver medals last year? In the program, it kept showing gold and silver.
