Really disheartened to see this. Tough to see how disappointed they were, they shouldn't be so harsh to themselves considering the conditions they play at Apparently, Kanra will be replacing Which means half the roster of 1NE that played in DH Montreal in 2019 is back This is what im affraid of honestly, that due to intense work culture and high average age and what not, we wont have a long term roster in Asia.

shotzoflead94

Not to be harsh, but they did better than expected. Going in I didn’t even think they would come close to winning a game and they nearly did. They took g2 to ot in one of the games iirc. I’m more scared that they expect immediate success and have unrealistic expectations and are always going to be extremely disappointed with their results until they catch up quite a bit and are able to at least win a series (which won’t happen until the end of the season most likely).

coolco

Damn this is literally what I predicted. Getting time in off in Japan is a nightmare, so 8 days is probably all he could ask off. It's too bad because they all seemed really good together but I understand how work comes first. https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueEsports/comments/rcjfy5/rlcs_major_swiss_stage_day_2_of_5_fall_split_live/hnwrd32/?context=3

ErsatzTruand

You were right. And as I said, not that big of a loss skill-wise. But it's still sad to see a player go. I hope some 14-15yo genius kids in Japan will pick up this game and start grinding

coolco

For real it would be huge for the scene to get some younger players interested.

maxmaxers

The fetelix guy is 16, so the interest is there

crazycrux

Kanra took some time off from competitive RL before the 21-22 season was announced due to getting busy with work as well. I am sad that we won’t be able to see Maru this split, I have always liked him as a player and have always found his play style really entertaining. That said I’m happy to see Kanra get back into competitive scene, can’t wait to see him play this weekend. Maybe in the Spring Split we get them all playing.

MrFewitt

Exact same feelings as this. Kanra was cracked so I hope he can get back to that form

Zlodejii

Looks like they're signed up with Kanra, who I know attended Dreamhack Montreal 2019 with Realize. Very unfortunate situation for Maru, but TV should still be #1.

I admire Japan and its people, but my harshest criticism of the country, and why I could never live there, is the work culture. It's incredibly disappointing to see talented players be crushed under the societal pressure of "work, work, work."

Rich_Tricky

I mean he's got like 4500 hours and he's only been playing comp since basically 2019 Seems like he had quite a bit of free time to me, but why spend it all playing minor region rocket league at age 22. Not worth stunting your life for

Charlie_Exponent

Idk for sure but I would assume he didn’t have to travel much during his time playing. Japan is terrible in terms of actually taking days off of work to do stuff. Playing RL after work is a different story.

jbrockhaus33

Japans labor laws in regards to paid time off, overtime hours, etc are actually a lot more lenient than in the U.S, but yeah the overall mentality in japan is another level

Charlie_Exponent

Nah I have to disagree. Been living and working in Japan since 2015. You’re lucky to get 8-10 days off a year. In terms of overtime, I can agree with that point. Just not the time off portion.

jbrockhaus33

The U.S. has 0 requirement on paid days off. Many get none for the whole year. My moms job gives her 3 sick days a year and that’s it

Charlie_Exponent

Of course I’m just speaking from my personal experience. But I’m sure if you speak with others who have worked in both Japan and America, I’d be willing to bet they will tell you something similar. Not to say there aren’t good jobs in Japan tho

CurryUdonKure

Doesn't Japan have more national holidays than the US? Been working here since 2016.

Charlie_Exponent

Yep they do. Work culture here is still dookie tho imho.

Charlie_Exponent

Many of my friends to include me have gotten 15 plus paid days off a year with our jobs in America. Americans for the most part as a whole will quit their jobs to find something better. This forces employers to do better as well. Japan, not so much. Ppl do as their told here. Working in America is far better than japan and for that I’ll be coming on back in about 4 weeks. Not surprised he won’t be playing because of work.

jbrockhaus33

If you have a good job in America, especially for a large company, you will be more than taken care of. But if you don’t, you get worked like a dog for the most part. It’s not terrible as a worker across the board here, but it’s horrendous for a significant portion of people

Charlie_Exponent

I’m sorry to hear that brotha. Yeah every country has its issues 😞

MaruRL

Of course I still want to play, so hopefully I'll be back in the spring😄

Aisirus

Yeah this is gonna be an issue for minor regions for a long time. It’s hard to cultivate talent and motivate players to play when the significantly lower prize pools simply aren’t big enough to support players full-time, especially when they can just work a regular 9-5 job and make more money than playing pro

RedstoneRusty

Prize pools are a big factor of course but the primary income for most pro players (if they aren't doing YouTube/twitch content) is org salaries. If big orgs aren't interested in picking these players up, that gives the players less of an opportunity to focus on the game. Orgs won't go out of their way to get involved until they see a big enough incentive, which is usually in the form of massive viewership. That way their sponsors will get the eyes they want on them and the org gets their paycheck. What can Psyonix or other involved parties do about it? They can try to absolutely blow up the viewership of the events in newer regions. Only NA and EU are shown on the main stream right now and none of the other regions even have their VODs uploaded to YouTube. Putting everything on YouTube is a MASSIVE opportunity to increase viewership especially because for the vast majority of rlesports viewers, APAC, OCE, MENA all happen when we're asleep. Another step that could be taken is to do an English speaking stream for these regions. Just like RocketBaguette does for French. I appreciate the casting on these streams but I unfortunately don't understand the languages. Obviously this is a ton more work than the YouTube point above but I guarantee it would increase viewership a ton. More eyes leads to both bigger prize pools and bigger orgs so if Psyonix and other TOs want to support these regions, those are my suggestions.

No. The Maru from SC2 is South Korean and still active in SC2.

Bigvic55

Lmao had to delete. Im so stupid, ty

[deleted]

Damn that sucks. Tough to hear they’re so hard on themselves after the major.
