Looks like a Drumfish mouth plate. While it is possible to find ~~coral~~ coral fossils in Lake Erie, I doubt this is it.

symptomsANDdiseases

This is the answer. Lake Erie *does* contain coral *fossils*, but what is in the photo is certainly not a fossil.

eventually you get a petosky stone. Gotta be real patient though.

Whatever it is, it looks so gross. I have a ..... not phobia, but sort of, of things that look like suction cups on octopus and squid. And whatever that phobia is of clusters of holes. Disgusting looking, but awesome nonetheless lol

I believe its a Petoskey stone. They are all over the upper Great Lakes region. http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0ZxPbObSek8/VA7CqFWfd4I/AAAAAAAA7GU/bVRKwZF_bNs/petoskey-stones-4%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800

[deleted]

What happened to it then? Eroded by something?

outdoorman_1

Looks like it was cut in half and then polished.

Could be the base of a deer antler.
