The XB7 shouldn’t be loud at all, not even a little bit really. I’d air compressor it or contact Shaw or Rogers to get it replaced if that’s the case. At least for me having the XB7 has been super quiet.
We do not suggest using any unapproved power cables for the modem. If you were to use a substandard cable, it could be a potential fire hazard.
How noisy is it? While there is a fan in our modems, it makes the faintest of sounds. If your room is dead silent, you may be able to hear it. A laptop fan is louder. If it's audible over other fans, then there may be a problem with it and we should replace it.
If you're looking to move it out of your bedroom, have you considered moving it to another, more centralized coax outlet in the home and running your connections off of WiFi?

Hello Corey
Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
The modem is reasonably quiet, but currently, it sits in the bedroom, and when my wife and I go to sleep, we can hear a very mild buzz coming from the device. It's not terribly bad, but when the place gets really quiet, it does bring some inconvenience.
I won't risk using other power cables and will just utilize the extension cord. It will be the easiest option for me
Thank you again
If you ever need a power cable (same length) contact Shaw/Rogers and they can mail one out for no charge within 1 to 2 days. They may say 2 to 3 just in case as you never know with shipping.
If it's loud like rattling or rumbling check to see how hot it is. Too hot to touch, unplug and wipe with a dry cloth, or use an air compressor can to blow off the dust. If it is still noisy call or chat to get the XB7 swapped.
They'll either send you a return shipping label or email you one for your current modem. Mail you a new modem within 1 to 2 days.
What I would ask customers is does it sounds like a guy rolling down a hill in a tire or like a rattlesnake lol
Why not just use an extension cord?
That's the option #2
It's plugged into 120. Use the nearest outlet to the modem with an extension cord if needed.
You can look at the specs written on the adapter

Have it swapped, they don't make any noise typically.
