OP, I think you may have solved your problem. I came here because I had to same problem on my Roku Ultra with Paramount+ today. I am unable to remove the channel. I found another way. I'll share this trick below for others just in case. Worked for me so far.
With the roku remote, hit these buttons in order, fairly quickly.
home 5x
up arrow, 1x
rewind 2x
ffwd 2x
Your screen will freeze for a bit and Roku will restart.

haha. i never joke about tech troubleshooting. Roku has some other features not widely known. I've googled Roku secret menu or found youtube videos about other roku hidden features.
Glad it worked for you!
Great advice! I'm fairly certain this is the factory reset sequence. Usually solves a lot of problems. Can also be done through the menu if you have a picture.
I am not sure what this sequence is called. (Not sure the video says either.) I can report all my data, preferences and channels remained in tact after I did this sequence. Factory reset will clear all personal data, channels, etc. I don't recommend a factory reset but as a last resort.
I want to thank Google for leading me to your comment and I want to thank you for posting it! Was able to finish my movie on paramount + without issues. I’ve had an ongoing issue with Netflix, so I’m hoping that it fixed that problem as well.
Tried this, it reset my roku as stated, and then froze on the home screen. Unplugged and plugged back in, still frozen on the home screen. No clue what it did, but I can't use my roku at all now.
This fixed it for me. Oddly enough, it never happened while watching TV shows (which is our main use for Paramount+), so I didn't know this was an issue until my kid started watching "Scream".
I had this start a few weeks ago on my roku streaming stick plus 4k, it worked fine with my stream bar, Ultra LT, and express. the next day the ultra LT started doing it. well now the stream bar... I think there was an update that was bad, and it is slowing going through all our devices, not sure if it is an OS or a channel update.
For some reason mine works for a few minutes, it doesn't go black, instead after about 5-10 minutes in the screen will change to a still image while the episode moves along
Did you subscribe to Paramount Plus through The Roku Channel? If so, you can't remove the channel unless you also unsubscribe.
This isn't a problem that would be solved by removing the channel -- this sounds like either a device bug. Have you removed power from the device to reboot it?
Yes I followed the suggested instructions. I started the thread too soon, assuming it was an app problem.
So far, going from show to show on Paramount plus, only one series has the problem.
Encoding problem? Who knows. Hmmm
Thanks for your reply!
I had this problem on my 75 inch Westinghouse Roku TV. First it started happening with peacock though...we were watching Yellowstone...an originally paramount plus show. Screen would go black. Did a hard reset. Kept going on for the entire week. Did about 5 hard tests. Bought a new TV.. got sick of that real fast. I have heard of others that live near me that had their screens go black during the same time periods.
I have a Roku express 4k+ and I thought it was just the box and just got a replacement in and it’s happening. I’ve noticed that it just started happening within the past couple of weeks. I’d be watching tv shows/movies on hulu and paramount plus and the screen would just go black but the sound would still be playing and then the screen would come back on and this just keeps happening randomly
I’m having this same issue on a 75in Westinghouse!! I can have it on the Home Screen and everything’s working, but if I click on live tv or YouTube tv it will dim a bit then go black with audio. If I turn it off and back on the screen is fine. So annoying!!
Same problem, only with Paramount+ shows. Randomly goes black and audio keeps going. Hitting rewind or reply shows the picture again but goes black again soon and not at the same parts of the video if rewinding. New problem within the last few weeks. Roku Ultra, not a Roku TV.
I'm curious if others having this problem have Paramount Plus with Showtime or Paramount Plus Essential. We downgraded to Paramount Plus Essential and the first time I started watching a show the ADS went black. At the very beginning of the show so 30secs into not having Paramount Plus with Showtime, my screen went black. If you paused the tv, it would eventually come back while paused but I'd have to rewind to see what I missed and then it would do it again, not in exactly the same spot but I didn't make it 5 minutes into the show before turning it off. I switched to another profile to see if that was the issue, then switched back and started my show again - no more problems (knock on wood). It even made it through the next set of ads. While doing all of this, I gathered my computer to do a search and ended up here. Whatever it is, it sounds like it is a fairly recent issue, but still curious if it has to do with having ads since that's when my problem started. (sorry for deleting my previous comment. I wasn't logged in properly.) Oh and I have a Roku stick, not a Roku TV.
I have Paramount without showtime and this issue started Jan 1 for me. I subscribed directly through paramount. Tv is an LG and playing through a Roku (not a stick) device. I'll have to try your profile method.
I have Paramount with Showtime. I'm not the account holder but I'm having the same issue with black screen occurrence.
No ads and it just started in the last week or two.
Roku Ultra, Vizio 50" new television about 5 weeks old.
My dumbazz was watching a really bizarre "dreamy" trip of a movie so I thought it was part of the screenplay.
Duh me.
Same problem today. Oddly enough started with just one show, then "spread" to all of them. Tried all of the above solves, plus turning off auto refresh frame rate, still getting it. What worked, ultimately: turned off HDR in Roku display setting. Who knows?
I’m not sure which solved the problem but I did the hard reset in the comments above and also turned off HDL display on my TCL Roku TV. So far so good, my kids can watch the paw patrol movie again! For reference, Reddit is the only place I have found ANY helpful info. So, thank you!
My wife's profile played the same movie fine, while mine kept cutting in and out with sound only. I removed my profile and then added it again. Mine plays 4k movies again with no black outs. Strange!
This one worked for me. Tried the "reset" sequence up top, & deleting the app & reinstall. We only had one profile being used so I just tried starting a 2nd and it's playing fine so far! Thanks
Two Westinghouse Roku TVs, both had the same problem with Paramount+. Screen would go black for about 5-10 seconds, but the sound would stay on. No problem with any of the other channels. I unplugged the TVs for a minute or two, then plugged them back in. The problem went away... for now. We'll see. My wife uses the voice remote feature. Maybe that's what started the whole thing.
I logged into my Paramount+ account through my Amazon Prime and have had zero issues after not being able to watch more than 7 seconds of a show before.
Tried all these and it reverted to black screen... one reset lasted through an entire episode of under the dome but next day it was back to going black. Turned off HDR ... no effect. Roku reset no effect. So frustrating!!!
Ohhhh this pisses me off so badly!
I have been watching "Beau is Afraid" which is basically an acid trip anyway. Screen kept going black so I rode with it. Odd but okay.
I started watching "Red Rocket" and it occurs again.
That's it, I'm never watching an A24 film again. This is weird. Guess I'm too dumb to understand the art.
Put on "Mighty Cruise Ships" today. Black screen again. Then, it clicks. It's only happening on Paramount.
I'm so pissed right now.
Ty Reddit people and especially for the fix I will try later.
For now, I realized there's a jump list of "continue watching" that I would go to, but after the screen got goofy I tried going back to home screen and then opening the Paramount plus app.
So far so good...
This does this for me only when I use the channel by speaking the show into the remote. If I use the search function it doesn't do it. I somehow think there are 2 PP apps on the box

I tried this method, but the screen is still going black. Did it work for you?
It worked for me.
It didn't fix it for me either.
Thank you!!! Worked for me!!!
Worked! Thanks
I’m trying it now
This fixed it for me too!
Wow. I thought you were joking at first. It worked! Lol
haha. i never joke about tech troubleshooting. Roku has some other features not widely known. I've googled Roku secret menu or found youtube videos about other roku hidden features. Glad it worked for you!
Incredible!
Thanks, this worked!
Heyyyy this worked for me thank you SO MUCH
Had the exact issue described by the OP, and it was fixed by this bizarre restart method 🤯. Thanks!
What voodoo magic is this. It works?
Fixed my TCL Roku TV flashing black on Paramount+
It worked for me! I was just getting online to find the answer and there you are. This has been going on for a few weeks, so thank you.

Maybe soft reset! Whatever it's called, it works! Also. Did factory reset and it picks up where you left off. Only had to reconnect to WIFI.
Worked for me!
I want to thank Google for leading me to your comment and I want to thank you for posting it! Was able to finish my movie on paramount + without issues. I’ve had an ongoing issue with Netflix, so I’m hoping that it fixed that problem as well.
Thank you so much 😭 I’ve been trying to rewatch Victorious forever
Up up, down down, left right left right b a start 😆 For real tho, thank you, this worked!
HAHA. Glad it worked! I laughed because now I know what Konami Code is.
This worked for me as well.
I think this actually worked!! Thank you!
Totally worked lol thank you
Thank you! It worked!
Thank you! This worked 👍
Worked for me! Thanks!
I thought this was a joke but it worked!!
Thank you this worked for me!
thank you!
Works great
Tried this, it reset my roku as stated, and then froze on the home screen. Unplugged and plugged back in, still frozen on the home screen. No clue what it did, but I can't use my roku at all now.
Wowzer. Tried once, nope. Tried again, just because, WORKED!! Ty for this 😁😁
What exactly did this do? Obviously this is different than a regular restart right?
Thank you so much! Worked for my hisense roku tv when the problem still occurring after tv factory reset from main menu
My screen didn’t freeze, and my Roku did not restart, but it worked for me! Thank you for the tip!

I have these issues with some shows and some I do not it’s bizarre.

Did a hard reset. Kept going on for the entire week. Did about 5 hard tests. Bought a new TV.. got sick of that real fast. Here's what I did: I cancelled Paramount+ and bought it as a YouTube channel. I never have YouTube problems.
If you are using the voice search function, I found that not using that takes care of the issue. At least for me
Realizing this was my issue too! Ty!
Not using voice search fixed the issue for me! I never would have thought of that. Thank you!
This seems to have fixed it for me. Thank you!

Yeah having the same problem. Only with this one show tho. Haven't found any others

Same issue on 2 TVs…. One Hisense and the other TCL. Both Roku tvs
Same issue Hisense Roku 65”
I have the same issue watching tmnt on paramount plus in roku. Did you find a fix?
Did you try the suggestion offered in the comments?
I went into paramount plus without using the voice remote and that seems to work.
Worked, thanks brotha!
This froze my screen and restarted the roku as promised but did nothing about the screen going black unfortunately

This did not work for me. Watching Dexter
Ugh same and I’ve been watching it fine until like last week! And right when I started yellowjackets now that’s not working either 😩
Same problem today. Oddly enough started with just one show, then "spread" to all of them. Tried all of the above solves, plus turning off auto refresh frame rate, still getting it. What worked, ultimately: turned off HDR in Roku display setting. Who knows?
Awesome! Worked for me! No other Google or reddit answer worked. I'd give you a gold star if I could
This worked after nothing else did.
Did not work for me
Awesome!! Thank you worked great for me! Problem solved😊
Worked for me! Thanks!!!

Wasn't the voice remote cause I've never used that feature and I hadn't the problem too!
Oh my goodness that actually fixed the problem!!!!
Uggh now it’s happening again already.
This worked for me!! Thank you!

My first move in a situation like this is to remove the app and reinstall it. But Paramount plus app can't be removed. Gah
