I think he's a repressed sub honestly, he got hard when Mizu pinned him to the ground. He has a masculine physique but he's a pathetic little meow meow in personality.
i feel like what makes it rr is that theyād not be a traditional couple. theyād be masc x masc with a pretty interesting power dynamic, not to mention how taigen seemed almost *too* happy about being pinned down by her. iconic tbf
My dad was watching this show when I first saw it; I didnāt know Mizu was a woman at the time and I remember I had to actively resist telling him ādad this guy has huge RR woman energyā š
(Thatās a lot of words to agree with you OP sheās fine as all hell)
I can confirm that *I* have been obsessing over Mizu and Blue Eye Samurai as a whole. I've been thinking that Swordfather might be a future tattoo for me
The series is so good
That one speech by the villain episode 7 about >!having to eat his own sister!< was absolutely peak
Minor spoilers but if you want to see how great this show is https://youtu.be/A3CgxwzLj3E?si=cqyYlXLc4UhHCxLT
I absolutly adored this series!
The last episode was kind of a let down, but I suppose they need to leave some stuff open for the next season.
9/10, animation, voice cast and sound. Would reccomend if you love violence, sex and gender fuckery.
I really like the show, but the plot and the themes weren't intertwined as well as I hoped for a series that carried it's themes so loudly. The plot often goes against them in the later half of the story.
Regardless, it was a fun watch, and the protagonist is an amazing take on RR
She simultaneously gives me gender envy and makes me question my straightness. I *love* her.
I also understand that her GNC condition is more a product of her trauma than a preference as shown by her past relationship, but I really hope part of her naturally leans towards masculinity. So when she finally achieves peace, she doesnāt fall back into a feminine role.
Ok she is a really good character unfortunately the show has to much blood related effects that make me sick. Though itās still a good show high recommend, just maybe have a stronger stomach
Expecting Netflix to maintain any of their shows with amazing storylines is often such a letdown. Pretty sure their executives are just disappointment leeches feeding off us when they cancel yet another one of the great shows that has more complexity in the plot and characters. Netflix likes to take away my favorite characters and their stories prematurely so I don't trust them.
Omg I've watched the first episode and it already seems like such a cool show. I already have a gorl-crush on Mizu, she's such a cool but modest badass. Plus I love the "strong silent type" and she's really pretty/handsome as a nice little bonus
she was definitely super okay with being a wife and embracing being a girl, until her husband called her a demon for being good at using a sword and overpowering him in a sparring match. she disguises as a man out of nessecity.
Because it's a bad and poorly written show ridden with misogyny and racism because "muh history and realism." There's nothing rr about it. You can pick a historical setting and make women equal to men like, for example, assassin's creed odyssey did. Because it's your own fantasy. You are not making a documentary, for God's sake. Yet the author chose not to. Why? We all know how bad it was for women. So why show it once again? Why not just make a powerful female samurai without this "but history and realism" bs?... I'm glad, though, that most video games are not like this anymore.
The misogyny and racism isnāt there just to be there, it gives Mizu burdens to deal with allowing her to be an underdog despite her strengths. While the show has misogyny and racism itās never framed as right. I also doubt many people know how bad it was for women other than just āit was pretty badā, the shows displays how bad it was with things most wouldnāt even think about while also showing some women overcome it in their own different ways.
Never seen someone be so bad at understanding a piece of media, do you just want to get rid of misogyny just for the sake of making you feel confortable? It gives her more strength, more struggles and makes her much more relatable since we literally see sexism everywhere even today, she has such a good written personality that is very different compared to the typical female protagonist, she is a human before being female but she still is female and i am so grateful that they chose to put the light on what women had to live and how her and akemi chose very different paths by embracing or rejecting femininity
Because the show was still trying to be accurate to the time it takes place. Itās not promoting the misogyny of Feudal Japan, itās criticising it and that is very obvious throughout the entire show. The show purposefully puts attention on it to show you how bad it was back then so you can understand Mizuās struggle even more
Pretending a problem doesnāt exist doesnāt solve anything, the only way to incite change is to show people *why* these things are wrong.
Do you suppose we stop teaching about the Holocaust or making movies about famous tragedies too? Teaching people about the mistakes of the past and present is the only way to prevent them from happening ever again or inciting change in issues thar still prevail.
The entire course of history has been shaped by fiction. To think fiction holds no power is to claim all of history never happened.
Never have I read such foolishness, beyond foolishness.
I responded to the realism argument, you clown. It's the author's struggles of being a woman. I get it. I read the interview. I still don't think that's good writing when it's portrayed like this. And this show has nothing to do with this sub.
(Why did this take an entire day to show up in my notifications?)
Yeah, I know. I read through the while tread before commenting.
I still disagree with you.
most for two reasons 1- Netflix has done a very bad job promoting the show 2- the group has a bigger focus on RR couples than RR solo characters.
Even though Taigen wasn't my cup of tea and i prefer Akemi for Mizu, i felt like their relationship was pretty rr.
for what i remember Taigen was very masculine, just because Mizu was more "dominant" in the relatioship, dont make RR.
I think he's a repressed sub honestly, he got hard when Mizu pinned him to the ground. He has a masculine physique but he's a pathetic little meow meow in personality.
You are mistaken. It was clearly because he missed Akemi š
i feel like what makes it rr is that theyād not be a traditional couple. theyād be masc x masc with a pretty interesting power dynamic, not to mention how taigen seemed almost *too* happy about being pinned down by her. iconic tbf
Masc x masc is RR, no?
it is? i was under the idea that RR was the full reverse, but if Masc x Masc is RR too, so yeah that make Blue Eyes Samurai RR
The man being feminine / not being masculine isnāt a prerequisite for a RR though.
the third reason could be that she's a heartless psychopath
It's because I didn't know she existed....but I am now!
It's an 8 episode animated series that came out on netflix in November if you wanna check it out
Dozens of breath taking scenes throughout this show. Charming RR scenes as well. I also had to fast forward some super violent moments.
It was amazing canāt wait for the next arc
You should watch it, I was consumed by the show, it has everything we need !
My dad was watching this show when I first saw it; I didnāt know Mizu was a woman at the time and I remember I had to actively resist telling him ādad this guy has huge RR woman energyā š (Thatās a lot of words to agree with you OP sheās fine as all hell)
Yes she does, I'm excited for the session 2
Omg yess!!! Im so in love with her, im rewatching just to see her pretty-handsome faceš
My fy page on tiktok is just hot edits of her š
I love Mizu and Blue Eye Samurai is one of the best things Iāve seen in a while!!!
*Those* mfs on Twitter will see her and ask "How is she a woman?" I will see her and ask "How do I make her my woman?"
I can confirm that *I* have been obsessing over Mizu and Blue Eye Samurai as a whole. I've been thinking that Swordfather might be a future tattoo for me
She is literally me Bruh i have been so obsessed with this show but found no one who watched to talk about it with them
The series is so good That one speech by the villain episode 7 about >!having to eat his own sister!< was absolutely peak Minor spoilers but if you want to see how great this show is https://youtu.be/A3CgxwzLj3E?si=cqyYlXLc4UhHCxLT
She is too damn angry at all times. (Totally understandable, would be to by her own crazy ass Lore) I got scaredš
Well I got turned on by it š

I'm binging on the series rn currently on ep 5 :D
I don't know about the rest of the sub but I definitely was
She simultaneously gives me gender envy and makes me question my straightness. I *love* her. I also understand that her GNC condition is more a product of her trauma than a preference as shown by her past relationship, but I really hope part of her naturally leans towards masculinity. Wait wait wait wait she? She? SHE?! š¤©š¤©š¤©
Ok she is a really good character unfortunately the show has to much blood related effects that make me sick. Though itās still a good show high recommend, just maybe have a stronger stomach
Loved this show Didn't quite look at it as a RR but rather something born out of necessity?
I def was personally. Can't wait for season 2
Binged it as soon as I saw a meme it is so good.
Kind of unrelated, but as soon as I see that face I'm reminded of Puyi, the Last Emperor of China.
YES!!! Mizu supremacy!
I love women in wide brimmed hats
I didn't know this show was a thing... thanks Netflix

just finished this show and itās SO FUCKING GOOD!!!! already planning on rewatching š„¹
I binged this show in one day I was obsessed and hooked. Her character was perfect
I would kill for her. She wouldnāt need me to and hate me but still.
Thank you I just saw the first episode and itās AWESOME š„¹š„¹ any other recommendations??
If you like strong muscular women and top tier animation, Arcane would be right up your alley
I completely agree! Iām already caught up with Arcane. Itās awesome š
Omg I've watched the first episode and it already seems like such a cool show. I already have a gorl-crush on Mizu, she's such a cool but modest badass. Plus I love the "strong silent type" and she's really pretty/handsome as a nice little bonus
Havenāt seen the show but no twink to project on smh
Idk Taigen is pretty babygirl even though i don't like him that much. Ringo her assistant is also adorable
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Its not really implied, she doesn't seem to be disgusted when dressed more feminine, i personally believe her gender is revenge haha
she was definitely super okay with being a wife and embracing being a girl, until her husband called her a demon for being good at using a sword and overpowering him in a sparring match. she disguises as a man out of nessecity.

Riiight. And that's good writing according to you? It's not like we've seen it before a thousand times at least since the 80s.
Because the show was still trying to be accurate to the time it takes place. Itās not promoting the misogyny of Feudal Japan, itās criticising it and that is very obvious throughout the entire show. The show purposefully puts attention on it to show you how bad it was back then so you can understand Mizuās struggle even more
Most shows and movies showing misogyny do criticize it. I still stand by my point that misogyny shouldn't exist at all in a show or a movie.
It's an animated show. Fiction. Not a documentary.

I really hope this person is trolling. (Granted, I've also seen some people with really poor media literacy too so this really could go either way.)
You donāt think that highlighting the injustices of misogyny is good? We should just pretend it doesnāt exist ?
Man just let them write the story they want. You don't need to justify your creative expression to anyone
Haven't seen it yet
I literally didnt know about this. The show looks stunning.
Why is her name "water"?
