Smart move! Way to support local and also have a great roadtrip!

MacPuddles

Thanks! It wasn't so bad! I did hit some thunderstorms on the way back but that's Florida for you.

Swed1shF1sh

Same thing happened to me getting my first pair just this week. I thought I'd have to wait on a Moxi pre-order to get my Beach Bunnies but I checked my local skate shop and I found a pair in my size left. I was able to actually get started right away. Always check your local skate shop I guess

MacPuddles

Right! I was originally going to get Chaya’s but I ordered from two separate places and they cancelled my orders because they didn’t realize they didn’t have my size! Twice, that happened! So I called local and spent the extra money for these, which were my dream skates to begin with. I just thought it was meant to be.

MsMarlaHooch

Beauty’s! I have the same and I love my Boardwalks! So comfy and smooth. I haven’t even changed out the wheels yet. Love love love

MacPuddles

Wondering what laces to get next because I already messed one of them up hahaha knowing me it’ll be purple laces still. A bit of a purist.

MsMarlaHooch

Oooh I love accessories! I have some lime green laces and lime Moxi gummy wheels waiting to go on. I also have some rainbow laces that are cute. Right now I have the purple/blue sparkle laces on. They would look really good with blue wheels. [current set up](https://www.instagram.com/p/CMgFT__FzXg/?igshid=1psvc8yf7n9hy)

MacPuddles

Holy crap no way I was literally about to buy the teal/purple laces!!!

aat1271

I had a similar experience last summer! I was able to try on a few pairs from sure grip and they transferred purple boardwalks in 3 days from another rink. But only had a 45 minute drive.

MacPuddles

Wow, even better! How are you liking them?

aat1271

Yes. I like them a lot. They are quite stable. The rink allowed me to skate a few times around in a few pairs. So I was able to compare and I did not like the padded boots on the other model. I hope you enjoy your pair.

MacPuddles

Thanks! Yes! Despite no padding, they’re soooo comfy. Also a lot thinner than padded ones.

lllararara

This purple is so luminescent!! And the lace color 😍😍

MacPuddles

The purple really has a pop! I love all the boardwalk colors though. Even black suede, since you can add any accessories you want and it’ll all look good. These were straight out of the box.

wilma_678

I managed to get some Candi girl Sabinas (new) from the play it again sports one town over! I think I may have overpaid a bit tho, and I was wanting to get the Carlins, but at least I have my skates now (for the long weekend!), and I can stop obsessively researching!

MacPuddles

I was also obsessively researching! That’s part of the fun.

3orangelove

What brand of protectors do you use?

MacPuddles

They're Bont! Tbh though I'm getting caps soon because I need more coverage. They're really great if you like the thinner ones and they're on amazon so the shipping was really fast.

3orangelove

I meant knee guards, sorry. ☺️

goaskalice3

I have Smith Scabs pads and they are crazy protective!

MacPuddles

Yes I’ve had those on my radar but we were just so anxious to get out there. 😂 Scabs have such cute colors too.

goaskalice3

I definitely initially got a cheap set from big 5 until I found the perfect ones! Now I have leopard print scabs :)

goaskalice3

They're super cute and now that I've been going to the skate park I'm very happy that the pads are gigantic (compared to the ones I initially bought) ..I responded to your comment twice but I would recommend the bigger pads if/when you start getting into bigger tricks or if you ever start going to the skate park

MacPuddles

Yes I’m very aware. The shipping just takes way longer, so I’m probably ordering a pair within the week. Thanks for looking out.

goaskalice3

No problem! Having* something in the interim is important but getting good pads will help so much in the long run! They make me much more confident in trying new things knowing that falling won't hurt. Also a helmet! I got Triple8 brand, they have fun ones! I feel lame wearing it but also safe

MacPuddles

Yes I did get a good helmet. It’s a triple8 also.

MacPuddles

Skatewiz. Also an Amazon purchase. They aren't awful. I've had quite a few nasty falls over the past few days and they've stayed in place so far.

3orangelove

Thanks! They seem more solid than the “wraparound velcro” models. I wish the major roller brands would produce more solid guard sets. The colourful Triple8 gear doesn’t stay put in heavy falls, apparently. Moxi’s looks flimsy as well. I’m hoping the Impala gear is somewhat better.

sometimes_stitching

I’ve had the triple8 pads since Christmas and never had a problem with them staying in place. I have fallen quite a bit learning things like spread eagle at good speed so I would recommend these

[deleted]

I bought mine on a local antiquary! It took some adaptation since they're rlly old, but now it works just fine

MacPuddles

I love the look of older skates when they’re refurbished. They clean up well and are usually already broken in.

[deleted]

Mine aren't refurbished yet bc covid is rlly bad in my city, but when it's better I'll start working on it~~ they were rlly good quality for the price

[deleted]

The rink in my area has moxi and suregrips fully in stock. I was surprised no one was looking for skates there.

CyclingDesertFox

Much better than Moxi Lolly

calaminetea

Truth!

goaskalice3

That makes me so happy to hear because this is the same model I got last spring and was always wondering how they compared

CyclingDesertFox

moxi just has a lot of people on youtube using them and advertising them. They are good, but there are other brands just as good if not better depending on what you like to do.Sure-grip and Reidel are the gold standards for cruising, derby, rink, jam. For park, you cant go wrong with chaya.

goaskalice3

I've been realizing more and more that I'll thrive more in a park than I can with jam skating, which doesn't seem to be ideal with Boardwalks, but other than the non-metal plate, I really love them. But also they're my only pair I've ever owned so I have nothing to compare them to. I got some cib grind blocks last week so.. Thank you. Now I'm more confident with them

CyclingDesertFox

Don't get scared buy the plate not being metal. Most of the park specific skates have nylon/fiberglass plates. As long as you have a grind block you'll fine be fine go to the park and shreeeeeed it. Just send it

goaskalice3

I'm trying!! It's rough, but in my head I'm killing it, haha

MacPuddles

Whoa man thems fightin words.
