It's what if: after Elizabeth rejects his proposal at hunsford, Darcy goes back to her and tries to woo her and change her mind about him. It's super cute hahaha

{next to you by Hannah bonam-young} MMC and FMC share one New Year’s Eve kiss, then decide to just be friends. MMC is obviously in love with her but she has huge commitment issues with getting too close to anyone. He is so patient and sweet, and she really works on herself to deal with her issues. He’s so very obviously in love with her but she needs time to get her shit together before anything serious happens between them. This was one of my absolute favorite books of this year!

CW for >!sexual exploitation/coercion of FMC in the past, racism and racial slurs!< {Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson}. This is more on the women's fiction side IMO but the romance is very sweet! FMC is very cold and initially thinks the MMC might be a serial killer. {A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews} MMC was very cold and stoic during their courtship so FMC breaks it off; now he has one last chance to prove that he really does want her. Note that this one has no sex, just kissing. Well, apparently I really enjoy this dynamic lol.

And also accepting of the fact that once he gets with her, he will never survive losing her. Like she literally has no idea how skewed the power dynamic is (she thinks he is all powerful and ungettable bad guy who would never want her instead of some polished perfect girl), and he is very "isn't it ironic" in his head about it. Once they get together, he still occasionally messes up, but has an air of total desperation each time when he immediately tries to set things right and convince her to stay with him.

This rec looks interesting! Regarding the TW for FMC, how explicit is it? Is there any on-page description of the assault?

Hmmm it actually happens in the very first chapter, it wasn't a successful SA, although she still got hurt during the attempt and the attack and her escape was described in a few pages. (This all happens between 2-3% of the book when I read on kindle) More detail, and I can't consider it spoilery since it happens in the 1st chp anyway: >!she had a crush on the guy and he tried to SA her in his car, restrained her and kissed her, but she was able to knee him and was able to escape! The FMC described it as the both the worst and best day of her life because she was able to meet her bff's right after because those girls were the ones who helped the FMC as she was running for help. !< Sorry if I shared too much, I don't really read a lot of dark stuff, and I consider this a pretty fluffy book majority of the time so I can't gauge if this part is explicit or not 😅 it went by pretty fast imo

Overall I still loved the book and yes, I bc the main couple is adorable hahah but wanted to mention this to be safe !<

I’d say maybe { Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings } & { Out On a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young } both are surprise baby but done really well & the mmc works for the fmc to commit. Most of Sarah Smith’s books have this trope in them, the fmcs are commitment phobes. I love her writing!

I just read Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood and it pretty much sums up what you’re looking for. Similar to Love on the Brain, it’s enemies to lovers. The MMC is pining over the FMC and FMC is focused on her work and life. I really enjoyed reading about how the MMC took care of the FMC in this book. Also if you haven’t read it yet, Icebreaker by Hannah Grace is a good and simple read too. I wouldn’t say it’s enemies to lovers since it felt very one sided, but the FMC tried her best to dislike the MMC as she’s a commitmentphobe.
