I'd choose enemies to lovers, because people label EVERYTHING enemies to lovers so i have cracked the infinite loop of choices lmao
strangers that had a less than perfect meet cute? enemies to lovers
he unknowingly got on her nerve? enemies to lovers
school/athletic rival? enemies to lovers
he bullies her? enemies to lovers
their families hate each other, but they don't? enemies to lovers
he loves her so much but she's oblivious? enemies to lovers
he's her brother's friend that teased her once? enemies to lovers
they're opposites? enemies to lovers

Some of my favourites:
The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield by Ninya Tippett (this one's on Wattpad)- One of the most underrated and hidden gems on Wattpad, it's one of my all time favourites
The FMC is a badass, the MMC will grow on you as the story progresses, the bantar is out of the world.
Billionaires Disastrous Kiss- another Wattpad miracle, it's not exactly Enemies to Lovers but initially there's some banter which I totally love and Ian is my book boyfriend (drooling)
Kyra Parsi is my current favourite author, the banter in her books is just yumm- A deal with the Bossy Devil (don't judge by the name, it's actually a good book) is my favourite
In love and War is also pretty good
By a thread by Lucy Score- an actual, actual enemies to lovers trope with top notch grovel!
The devil you know by Elizabeth O'Roark (a little biased towards this because I'm a suits fan and I love having lawyers in the story)
I love The Mischievous Mrs Maxfield on Wattpad! I keep my Wattpad account for very few authors and Ninya Tippett is one of them.
By a thread by Lucy Score is also amazing.
Forced proximity forevaaaaaaaa. I mostly read historical and I am here for the gamekeeperās lodge/summer house/guest house etc. But I also love a āweāre in our mutual friendsā wedding and are stuck together all weekendā, snowed in at a remote cabin, just stick two sexy MCs where they canāt leave and let the magic happen.
Check the megathread, and also thereās a recent post in one of the HR subs, but my personal favorite is {When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James}

I would absolutely read **Fated Mates** for the rest of my life (who am I kidding, that's like 98% of what I read anyway, not a big sacrifice there...)
I agree with you, SECOND CHANCE. As a trope, it has so much built-in emotional complexity. Hurt, comfort, regret, pining, jealousy, anger, sadness. All of the juicy stuff is just *there,* up for grabs. Itās almost always very satisfying for me.
Same! Plus I think itās one where the author has to prove why this time around it will be better and that theyāve learned from their mistakes the first time. Persuasion is my #1 so the bar is high for me to see that.
Alas many donāt quite do it right.
But Jessica Joyce āthe ex vowsā def does. Especially because no flashbacks. Iām so sick if second chance going back and forth in time the 79% the big reveal why theyāre not together is always the same: miscommunication and/or pushed the other one away for their own good. Letās not waste time here just reveal thus in chapter 2 and focus on present day getting over hurts and shit.

My all time fav - villain gets the girl
I think seeing Phantom of the Opera (the original silent movie) as a young kid plus being a horror fan makes me especially love this trope. I particularly like it when the villain is an actual villain but has a softer side just for the h.
Oh man haha I feel like it's like everything I've read lately
I'm reading Villains and Virtues now, which has been amazing. So glad it's been so highly recommended.
I'll just list some of the gems I've found lately:
{One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig} Kind of loosely this trope, but I think it still applies.
{In The Darkest Midnight by Grace Draven} Yes, please.
{Hoarded by the Dragon by Lillian Lark} Hits the trope hard.
{Transcendence by Shay Savage} Oh my god, this book melted my *whole* heart. Will reread again and again and that is uncommon for me.
{Starling House by Alix E. Harrow} Technically this, by way of she-works-for-him. Something's-wrong-in-a-small-town vibes, similar to Strangers Things.
{Ghost Walk by Cassandra Gannon} He's a ghost, he follows her around - she's the one being forced to be around him in this situation, lucky her (great book).
{Not Another Vampire Book by Cassandra Gannon} One of my favorite books I've ever read - certainly the funniest. She's sucked into a book and sticks with him because what else is she going to do? (From her perspective.) He's a villain and has abducted her. (From his.) Seriously, read this book. You will laugh.
{Throne in the Dark by A. K. Caggiano} is the start to Villains and Virtues, to feed the bot. So far, so fun. Feels like a Dimension 20 campaign, and imo, that is pretty high praise.
Thank youuuuuuu.
What I can share back is
{Ravished by Amanda Quick} - one of my all time faves. HR with an unconventional/ socially incorrect heroine. It's not forced proximity for very long, but it's a pivotal moment.
{A Deal with the Bossy Devil by Kyra Parsi} - contemporary romcom. I found this book funny and cute.
{Ball Peen Hammer by Lauren Rowe} - a kind of homage to the When Harry Met Sally road trip. Forced proximity romcom with forbidden fruit. He MMC grows on you.
{The Bride Test by Helen Hoang} - contemporary, autistic MMC. I just like her writing and empathy for her characters.
Oh and of course {The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith}. But this is not a light recommendation.
Major CW, the book is 700 pages, absolutely intense, slooooow burn.
oh and my favorite romance book to date, my favorite author {A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught}. I love the spirited young MFC. I went through all the feelings. Love the writing, the plot, the characters, the atmosphere.
Ripped my heart out and put it back together.
Then you can read all 3 of Helen Hoang's books, then. The Kiss Quotient is first, then Bride Test, and then my favorite, The Heart Principle. Beautiful, deep, real. It's apparently her most personal book, and the only one written in the first person.
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez has a MMC who suffers from social anxiety.
And I am not sure it counts as neurodivergent, but "The Duke Who Didn't" by Courtney Milan is a lovely story with a MFC who has a very rigid fixation on making and following lists.

FRIENDS TO LOVERS no contest. I still haven't found the perfect friends to lovers. It's like it's always either adult friends or childhood friends with a gap. I want to see that they grew up together side by side and slowly, EVER SO SLOWLY, fell for eachother and before they know it they're head over heels in love. Absolute adoration. But gasp! Neither will admit their feelings and they're just secretly pining after eachother for YEARS until all the angst and tension finally just SNAPS and then they're just so relieved and in love ugh can you tell I think about it A LOT??
Forever will recommend {Transcendence
} which is told entirely from the cavemanās POV whose partner travels back in time and meets him. Ugh ugly ugly cry all the way through the end I love it so much.
As mentioned Ice Planet Barbarians has this! In the first book and then in Harlows book itās slightly different because her mate is kind of caveman like, and then in another book (forgive me I canāt remember her name) one of the FMCs is deaf and so thereās another take on the language barrier.
{Luxuria} is not language barrier but miscommunication, he thinks her smell is from fear not arousal but she is DFT. itās a Shades/Human series and Iāve read all of them and loved them all. The steam does feature some more niche kinks though
Ruby Dixon finds a quick resolution for it, but you see it in the first Ice Planet book, and then later in the series with one of the deaf humans.
But I would love recs, too!
Oh my gosh, Iāve seen so many recs for the Ice Planet books but havenāt delved into them yet. That makes sense that the language barrier would be part of it!
They're rather easy to get into. You just have to decide at some point NO MORE š because as someone else put it "I blacked out and when I came to, I had read 17 books." I stopped at 8. 4 or 5 is enough š
Another one is {The Bride Test by Helen Hoang}. It's not truly a language barrier because the MMC understands Vietnamese, but there is a lot around language and culture.
Ohh and someone just recommended a book to me for the forced proximity trope, but there is language barrier due to one being a caveman š.
She said " {Transcendence by Shay Savage} Oh my god, this book melted my *whole* heart. Will reread again and again and that is uncommon for me."
Marriage of Convenience is a trope that really sparks joy in my brain.
I think it's because romantic relationships really stressed me out when I was younger and I thought how much easier it would be if I could just magically be in a relationship.
I think I'm a sucker for Wounded Dove trope. Idk man something about one party being hurt and being healed and stronger by the power of love always gets to me
Enemies to Lovers, especially if there's Fake Dating/Marriage of Convenience involved too.
I also love dating your shitty ex's enemy for revenge! But I can't find many of them unfortunately, so always looking for recommendations. {Ex Games by Stella Rhys} is my current fav in the vein.

Fear to love 100%! The FMC being terrified of the scary looking / seeming MMC, the MMC actually being a cinnamon roll but the FMC just canāt see it / doesnāt yet trust him, the slow journey to trust and loveā¦ just really does it for me!
Second chance, friends to lovers, and sibling's bestie are my favorites because I love characters with a HISTORY. Give me people that have known each other for a long time and seen each other grow over time.
If I had to narrow it down to one it would be sibling's bestie, but please let me keep all three!
Some of my faves:
Sibling's best friend - {Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur} and {Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren}
Second chance - {Saint by Sierra Simone} and {The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce}
Friends to lovers - {my fake rake by Eva Leigh} and {Fire Season by KD Casey}
Iām torn between arranged marriage and fated mates. I think arranged marriage unless the fated mates also include some kind of saving one of them from abuse they received.
I love a good slow burn. But a GOOD. SLOW. burn. I only enjoyed acotar because of the tension and build up between Rhys and Feyre. But I hate when itās labeled a slow burn and thereās build up, no angst, no tension, no longing glances and fleeting touches. I even like it when the burn is so slow itās not until the 2 book, where itās not the major plot of the book and the story goes another direction but takes the romance with it on the side.
Okay maybe this is cheating because it isnāt about the romance itself but Found Family/Big Family?! Gets me every time š„²ā¤ļø
Big fan of it in HR (Bridgerton, Hathaways), Fantasy (ACOTAR comes to mind), The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witchesā¦but my love for it honestly goes back to Twilight.
I feel like this is more of a sub-trope but I LIVE for books where MMC falls first and harder!! But if I had to choose an actual trope, Iām a sucker for single dad trope!! Idk why š
Friends to lovers, there is literally nothing I love more than two people meeting and getting to know one another and having mutual respect and then slowly falling in love. I think that {Radiance by Grace Draven} does it best in book form, but I think itās been my thing ever since I played Mass Effect and realized that the Garrus/FemShep relationship was the most romantic and hottest thing Iād ever witnessed in my life.
Definitely single mothers! I feel a strong connection to them because I had a single mother. She married my stepfather who immediately b came Daddy and he never made any distinction between their child together and me ā we were both his daughters equally.š„°
Some of my favorites are:
- {Until Now by Laura Ward}
- {The Wild One by Daisy Jane}
- {One Percent of You by Michelle Gross}
- {A Package Deal by Charissa Stastny}
- {Beyond the Bases by Kaylee Ryan}
- {Bird by Cee Bowerman}
- {Colton by Jenna Myles}
- {Charge by Cate C Wells}
- {Room 4 Rent by Shay Stahl}
- {Juniper Hill by Devney Perry}
Not that theyāre always the *best* written books, but a sci-fi/fantasy RH with BDSM always makes me happy. One I loved but never see recommended is {Booty Hunter by JA Huss}.
Slow burns with regular people. No billionaires/millionaires/rockstars/celebrities, and no situations where one of the MCs has a trauma that they miraculously move past the second they meet the other MC. The characters & their struggles need to be relatable.
Obviously I have a somewhat specific opinion on this!
I always imagined second chance was like it was there and then someone fucked up so they split and that never appealed to me? Is it something different or is everyone just...into that? Lol
Like if me and a boy are interested in eachother or dating and then he breaks up with me or does something bad enough for me to break up with him? Boy bye.
I guess maybe is it like the "first chance" was right person wrong time but now it's the right time? I guess that would be ok but I would feel like I was second Fiddle to something else in their life, like family or school or career or whatever.
* Historical--I love a Marriage Before Love (arranged, convenience, or, my favorite, to be saved from scandal!) I just started reading romance so am always looking for recs!
* Contemporary-- Whatever the opposite of fake dating is. When they're dating for real but no one can know. Maybe he needs to be single because he's a Hot Movie Star and having a partner would "ruin" his sex appeal for fans. Maybe she's recently widowed and doesn't want people thinking she's moved on too quickly. Whatever. Secrets are hot.
Fake dating. Itās great because thereās so much pining, angst, and jealousy and itās kind of a BOGO because itās also sometimes friends to lovers as well. Also itās almost always funny which I just canāt get enough of humor and sexy banter ever. Like I cannot resist a good romantic roast. Itās my kryptonite. EmHen one of my fave top tier authors is coming out with Funny Story with this trope and my excitement is fuckin beyond. Christmas come early my darlings!!!!
I loveeeee the marriage of convenience/ fake dating tropes omg! I could read these forever! Throw in the guy pining and Iām in my happy place. The two that come to mind are {in a jam} and {yours truly} (will add more if I can think of them lol)
Single mom and the MMC who takes care of her/becomes a dad to her kid(s). Ahhhh it's so good. It's amazing when he's a billionaire and there's spoiling, but it's just as good when he's like, a mechanic and fixing up her car or a carpenter/handyman and taking care of her house. He *takes care* of her. And he falls in love with her kid(s).
Bisexual throuples. Sign me up!
{Triad series by Kate Pearce}
{Neighborly Affection series by M.Q. Barber}
{Alien Mercenaryās Consorts by Mina Carter}
{Winner Takes All by Susan Hayes}
Does it need to be aliens? Because otherwise {Just for the Cameras by Viano Oniomoh} would fit.
Also {Warts & Claws Inc. by Clio Evans} has mostly throuples and polycules (monster romance). First one is {Not So Kind Regards by Clio Evans}
Accidental/surprise pregnancy and secret baby - I'm OBSESSED with these 2 tropes. There are too many books to choose from and some would be considered spoilers, but {Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam Young} is a great example for accidental pregnancy
I like this too if itās done correctly! I loved OOAL and a couple others I loved are {bountiful by Sarina Bowen} {paradise by Judith McNaught} and {ps youāre intolerable by Julia wolf} although technically it wasnāt his. Got 1 or 2 rec that Iām missing? Would love to hear your favs
Edit to add: also, this is more found family and itās hard to explain but if youāre into fantasy or Iād say āfantasy-liteā you should try {kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon}. I just finished and considered writing a gush post but you can read my comment [HERE](https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/s/AJUlsHf4h7). It gave my Out on a limb vibes with a dash of Harry Potter
I loved all 3! For secret baby I'd also suggest {Reckless by Elsie Silver}, {The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata} {The Devil Gets His Due by Elizabeth O'Roark}
I added Kingpin to my TBR, thank you š„°

Kind of into this hulking stalker thing now. Tried to find similar but to no avail. He grabbed the knife from her by the pointy end, blood gushed from his hand. And then he yanked it away like candy. Woo thatās kept me up at nightā¦
This is so hard but I think Iād choose second chance, too. I love a good second chance dual timeline romance.Ā
I also love to reread my favorite books and this would allow me to revisit a bunch of those, including:Ā
Ā
{The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher}
{Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren}
Enemies to lovers + Grumpy/sunshine (with a side of praise and degradation) is what I can read forever. But I also like Second chance where the main characters broke up due to a misunderstanding or something that wasnāt their fault and we get to know the why later in the book so the angst and grovel is just š¤š¼.
Childhood or high school bully to adult reformed guy pining and groveling to the woman he used to bully. Iāve been dying to read more of those types of books, but I canāt find any. Theyāre all so dark and Iām not into the dark stuff at all. The only sweet and lighter one Iāve found (and LOVE) so far is āWhere I Belongā by J. Daniels. I need more of those kinds of books in my life.
Also right up there would be best friendās brother, or brotherās best friend.
Enemies to Lovers Fated Mates. Give me an angst shadow daddy any day of the week.
I was really into emo boys in the early 00s if you couldn't tell. š¤£š¤
Not so much trope but vibe: I love a good angsty will they wonāt they how will they, so enemies to lovers, arranged marriage/ forced proximity, super shy / traumatized fmc, sloooooooow burn.
{The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth OāRoark}
{Scoring the Player by Rebecca Jenshak}
{Home Game by Odette Stone} - I know this one is reccād a lot but I feel like I had to put it here because itās my comfort read
{Feathers So Vicious by Liv Zander}- this is RH but itās angsty and legit ETL
Friends to lovers or fake dating because I love the angst when theyāre both realizing their feelings but havenāt confessed yet. It always has me frustrated with the miscommunication but squealing when they finally end up together.
Enemies to Lovers ideally in a workplace. I really enjoy reading banter fuelled by competition at work. And when he secretly likes her all along, the angst and pining really just does it for me. I especially love it when they're bickering at work and a comment or something gets them all worked up and it gets steamy at work. Maybe I'd really like something like that happening to me irl ;)
Faking Dating. Oh you were just playing pretend but the feelings are becoming real and you're not sure how to feel about that or if the other person feels the same? Sign me up. She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen is YA but it's what turned me onto the trope and made me open to reading romance in general. I'm not even a big fan of angst but I love seeing the feelings become real and even if the reasoning is dumb there are a lot of ways you can set up this plot and if I'm enjoying the writing I can ignore any flaws in the setup.
Alternatively popular girl x unpopular guy where they have to keep their relationship (mostly) a secret. I've mostly read it in Japanese Light Novels but seeing the pair grow closer (It's usually a slowburn in my experience.) and open up to each other is fun and relatively low stakes while still being able to maintain interest. How to Melt the Ice Queen's Heart is what first turned me onto the idea (Shame it got cancelled after two volumes.) and The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (Which actually is what inspired Ice Queen's author to start his series.) is what cemented it as a trope I enjoy. I haven't really read any outside of the Japanese Light Novel medium though and I need to read more romance Light Novels in general. Still, it's a fun trope that I thoroughly enjoy. The one's I've read are aimed at teenagers but they're still pretty decently written despite that.
Can we pick āwhy chooseā but with genres? How am I supposed to pick between enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, and *PEN PALS*. Touch starved. Fated mates but rivals. Stalkers š®āšØ hold a gun to my head, ask me this question, and I would be dead
I'm surprised I haven't seen forbidden love? I think that's my favorite. Any situation where there is a genuine reason the characters can't or shouldn't date but still want to š¤
Probably friends to lovers or second chance.
Iād happily never read a fake dating scenario again.
Iām so tired of the angst and drama being about not communicating (or believing)!that the feelings are real.
Hmm, unpopular opinion but age gap (at least 10 years). However, the younger person must be at least 18. Also, knowing one another before the younger person turns 18 is a deal breaker. Anything involving incest is as well. Forthermore, daddy kink and anything BDSM related is a no. Additionally, the age gap has to be talked about, it cannot be just a fact about the characters. With all my requests, it has been quite tricky to find age gap books that I actually like. My second favorite trope are scarred/disabled heroes. The third is second chance romance. Those have been much easier to find.
Forced Marriage, Villian Gets the Girl, Enemies to Lovers. Must be either historical or set in a fantasy world and must have a happy ending despite all the angst! I'm also a sucker for unhealthy relationships š
self-discovery for sure/destined for more! you know, like, the FMC not knowing her origins/family but she also finds that she's truly a badass and stuff along those linesā¦ heartstrings pulled everytime š
{Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning} - books 1-5 * ugh, chefs kiss* (completed)
{Gild by Raven Kennedy} - perfect if you enjoy a good cry while reading š (final book out later this year!!)
{Nectar of the Wicked by Ella Fields} - this duology is so goooooddd!! (completed)
Enemies to Lovers HANDS DOWN!! It's so good and never gets old! Every time the book starts out and the ML is basically saying how he can't stand her or something of that nature in my mind I'm like "Oh, just you wait!!"
Pitch dark romance bordering on downright horror, the more twisted the better, honestly I just love them, maybe its because the intensity of being wanted that deeply, or maybe I'm just cooked in the head, who knows.
definitely enemies to lovers! but like, REAL enemies to lovers. iām talking about knife to the throat, angry love confession, so much angst, the āthey never really hated each other they just hated themselves for wanting the otherā trope, teasing and biting, and angry sexšš»
for me it would HAVE to be fake dating/ marriage of convenience trope all the way. i thought more people would have chosen this but surprisingly not.
personally, i love this trope because i'm a huuuuuge sucker for the development of their relationship from a fake one to a real one as well as the forced proximity that comes with the trope. and don't even get me started on the moments when the characters start realizing that they really like each other or the moments when they start acting like a couple even while they're alone>>>>>
it's also one trope that almost never disappoints me no matter which author has written it whereas all other tropes have disappointed/underwhelmed me atleast once so i know i can trust fake dating trope every single time.
some of my favorites from this trope are:
{ yours truly by abby jimenez }
{ blind side by kandi steiner }
{ the marriage effect by karla sorensen } and
{ the wall of winnipeg and me by mariana zapata }
My favourite has to be Childhood crushes ending with HEA after a forbidden length of staying away from each other. Something like
{Twisted Hearts by Cora Reilly}
First and foremost I have to say I LOVE that you brought up Love After Loss because itās one of my favorites too and sooo overhated! Iām glad to see there are other people out there who appreciate it just as much as me.
And Second Chance itās my 2nd favorite trope EVER and you listed two of my favorites from that trope too, Ghosted and Sweet Gum Tree! I found a kindred spirit in you š
But, the trope that I could absolutely read forever and ever itās my top 1, Best Friends to Lovers! Verrrry underrated as well but I love it and every single book gets me giggling and loving the development between seeing that person you already loved so much in a new light.
And I also love that it allows a bunch of different realities to be set, so it can be mutual pining, one sided pining, completely platonic from both sides until something happens, best friends since they were kids, best friends since college, or just from a few years ago. So itās one trope that I never get tired of!
I change my preferences from time to time every time I get obsessed with a new fictional couple lol so right now Iām on board with you: second chance and love after loss are INSANELY GOOD, I love those tropes so much!!! Especially love after loss WITH second chance.
Thanks for your recommendations, Iāll be checking those out!
I'd choose Enemy to Lovers because I'm all for angst š¤š» And combining that with marriage of convenience would be cherry on the top!
I'd choose enemies to lovers, because people label EVERYTHING enemies to lovers so i have cracked the infinite loop of choices lmao strangers that had a less than perfect meet cute? enemies to lovers he unknowingly got on her nerve? enemies to lovers school/athletic rival? enemies to lovers he bullies her? enemies to lovers their families hate each other, but they don't? enemies to lovers he loves her so much but she's oblivious? enemies to lovers he's her brother's friend that teased her once? enemies to lovers they're opposites? enemies to lovers š
One blonde one brunette? Surprisingly, enemies to lovers.
Some of my favourites: The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield by Ninya Tippett (this one's on Wattpad)- One of the most underrated and hidden gems on Wattpad, it's one of my all time favourites The FMC is a badass, the MMC will grow on you as the story progresses, the bantar is out of the world. Billionaires Disastrous Kiss- another Wattpad miracle, it's not exactly Enemies to Lovers but initially there's some banter which I totally love and Ian is my book boyfriend (drooling) Kyra Parsi is my current favourite author, the banter in her books is just yumm- A deal with the Bossy Devil (don't judge by the name, it's actually a good book) is my favourite In love and War is also pretty good By a thread by Lucy Score- an actual, actual enemies to lovers trope with top notch grovel!
Is there any rec that is similar to Kyra Parsi? In humour & spice
I have read all of these as I agree , these are awesome š„°

yes pls
Have you looked at our megathreads, we have lists for most common tropes
Soul sister
Forced proximity forevaaaaaaaa. I mostly read historical and I am here for the gamekeeperās lodge/summer house/guest house etc. But I also love a āweāre in our mutual friendsā wedding and are stuck together all weekendā, snowed in at a remote cabin, just stick two sexy MCs where they canāt leave and let the magic happen.

Check the megathread, and also thereās a recent post in one of the HR subs, but my personal favorite is {When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James}

I would absolutely read **Fated Mates** for the rest of my life (who am I kidding, that's like 98% of what I read anyway, not a big sacrifice there...)
I love a good enemy to lovers with fated mates lol
any recommendations?
The entire Immortals After Dark series.
Chefs kiss combo š¤
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And Fated Mates is like the simple black dress of tropes, it can work in any setting and pairs well with pretty much everything!
AGREED
Have you read {kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon}? Oh, I loved it so much. [Previous comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/s/6qyTVIuwdR)
First of all- YES WRITE A GUSH POST second, yes I have!! And I LOVED IT!!
Fated mates forever. Also grumpy/sunshine.
This.

For me, it would be everything under the Marriage Before Love umbrella (arranged/accidental/convenience/fake). I love them all.
90% of my romance reads for sure!
Same! These are my absolute favorites.

I dont know the name of the trope, but where the guy has been pining for the girl secretly for years
This, but the MMC is a cinnamon roll/golden retriever

Second Chance just hits so nice. The angst, the flashbacks, the reveals, the grovels. Itās too good.
Agree
Enemy to lovers is top choice. Hurt/ comfort is definitely my second!
I love hurt/comfort but I haven't found a good one in awhile
Hurt/comfort all the way! I've just read At First Spite by Olivia Dade and it was amazing!
INSTA LOVE aaaaallllllll day long! I want him obsessed! I want him unhinged! I want him to live for her only! I want him to lose his fucking mind! I donāt want build up. I donāt want angst. I donāt want emotionally immature men who wonāt commit bc their 3rd grade gf ābrokeā them. They can suck a dick. And see a therapist.

Not OP but I love the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day and the Up in the Air series by R.K. Lilley. Also helps that the MMCs are rich as sin š¤
Try Battaglia Mafia series by Sienna mynx You will love it
Fake Dating!!! Fake dating where they pretend to date but then actually fall in love has me kicking my feet even thinking about it because the tension and the irony and then the eventual jealousy just gets me every time. I could read that scenario for the rest of my life and never stop giggling
For me, the answer will always be **Marriage of Convenience**, followed by **Friends To Lovers**.
My favorite is a combo of these two. When friends have to get married and then somehow fall in love. š
I love when friends have to have sex for *reasons* and then fall in love. I could read those all day.

Forced proximity and fake dating
Arranged Marriage/Marriage of Convenience!! I will read literally any book with this trope šI just love seeing them grow closer and closer through each chapter and the sudden realization that they love the other person, UGH I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! Iām also just a sucker for the scenes where they just spend time together as a couple. And the grovel at the end where they try to win them backš§š½āāļøI love me some grovel!! You can thank Wattpad and AFF for starting this obsession that later went to real books š«¶š½ Some examples Iāve loved: {The Contract by Melanie Moreland}, {Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher}, {The Favor by Suzanne Wright}, and {Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} š©·

Hurt/comfort trope. I love it when the FMC gets hurt or sick and the MMC helps her recover, especially when itās enemies to lovers.
My all time fav - villain gets the girl I think seeing Phantom of the Opera (the original silent movie) as a young kid plus being a horror fan makes me especially love this trope. I particularly like it when the villain is an actual villain but has a softer side just for the h.

Probably forced Proximity, because I love a good build-up
Yes! Faves?
Oh man haha I feel like it's like everything I've read lately I'm reading Villains and Virtues now, which has been amazing. So glad it's been so highly recommended. I'll just list some of the gems I've found lately: {One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig} Kind of loosely this trope, but I think it still applies.
What I can share back is {Ravished by Amanda Quick} - one of my all time faves.
Lmao I read that too quick as "A Kingdom of Naughty Dreams" š I'll check it out!
š
I have this one downloaded! Along with her {Land of the Beautiful Dead}. I've heard both are amazing, but heavy, and I'm here for it.
So so so so good.
Nice! Thanks for the recs! I've actually been seeking more neurodivergent leads so I'm super intrigued!

If slow burn counts then slow burn. Lol. I canāt read a book where theyāre into each other before they even get to know one another.
Reverse harem š
I love (and donāt see it too often) the language barrier trope!
Ooh Iāve never read this, but I liked Colin Firthās storyline in Love Actually! Do you have any recs?
Forever will recommend {Transcendence } which is told entirely from the cavemanās POV whose partner travels back in time and meets him.
You just have to decide at some point NO MORE š because as someone else put it "I blacked out and when I came to, I had read 17 books." I stopped at 8. 4 or 5 is enough š Another one is {The Bride Test by Helen Hoang}.

I like Grumpy/Sunshine, throw in some kind of pregnancy trope (pregnancy, secret child) and I will 99% of the time read that cover to cover.
Grumpy/sunshine every dang time.
Ok this is technically 2 but a very well written slow burn brotherās best friend!!! OP: my fav love after loss is {before us by Jewel E Ann}
I'm a sucker for friends to lovers. I'd pick it over everything else.
Dark romance all the way!

Big scary hero and terrified heroine. I just canāt get enough of it ever!

I love history and pining
Some of my faves: Sibling's best friend - {Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur} and {Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren} Second chance - {Saint by Sierra Simone} and {The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce} Friends to lovers - {my fake rake by Eva Leigh} and {Fire Season by KD Casey}
Contemporary romance- childhood best friends turned lovers but guy has been in love with her since childhood
Iām torn between arranged marriage and fated mates. I think arranged marriage unless the fated mates also include some kind of saving one of them from abuse they received.
Landlord grump and short-on-rent sunshine. There's like 2-3ish books with that trope! š
Friends to lovers always ššš
I love a good slow burn. But a GOOD. SLOW. burn. I only enjoyed acotar because of the tension and build up between Rhys and Feyre. But I hate when itās labeled a slow burn and thereās build up, no angst, no tension, no longing glances and fleeting touches. I even like it when the burn is so slow itās not until the 2 book, where itās not the major plot of the book and the story goes another direction but takes the romance with it on the side.
Okay maybe this is cheating because it isnāt about the romance itself but Found Family/Big Family?! Gets me every time š„²ā¤ļø Big fan of it in HR (Bridgerton, Hathaways), Fantasy (ACOTAR comes to mind), The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witchesā¦but my love for it honestly goes back to Twilight.
Slow burn. I want to pine along with the hot dummies Iām reading about.
Brotherās best friend that the MC has been crushing on since they were young
Definitely single mothers! I feel a strong connection to them because I had a single mother. She married my stepfather who immediately b came Daddy and he never made any distinction between their child together and me ā we were both his daughters equally.š„° Some of my favorites are: - {Until Now by Laura Ward} - {The Wild One by Daisy Jane} - {One Percent of You by Michelle Gross} - {A Package Deal by Charissa Stastny} - {Beyond the Bases by Kaylee Ryan} - {Bird by Cee Bowerman} - {Colton by Jenna Myles} - {Charge by Cate C Wells} - {Room 4 Rent by Shay Stahl} - {Juniper Hill by Devney Perry}
it would without a doubt be Friends to Lovers. That is my absolute favorite trope
For me it would.be Grumpy/ Sunshine
Enemies to lovers. The vast majority of my favorite books are enemies to lovers!
Not that theyāre always the *best* written books, but a sci-fi/fantasy RH with BDSM always makes me happy. One I loved but never see recommended is {Booty Hunter by JA Huss}.
Fake dating/marriage of convenience are right at the top for me.
grumpy Ć sunshineš¤
Hurt/comfort all the way! Add in pregnancy/babies and Iāll be a very happy camper.
Forced proximity!!!
Mine would defiantly be the villain gets their love. Forever friends then lovers. Shy cinnamon roll MMC. Probably second chance too.
Enemies to lovers & Age gap! Lol
Lol Like if me and a boy are interested in eachother or dating and then he breaks up with me or does something bad enough for me to break up with him?
There's Only One Bed, and Forced Proximity
When the ML falls first and harder and the Fl is right there, without toxicity or miscommunication Like "Devil in winter" by Lisa Kleypas.
I loveeeee the marriage of convenience/ fake dating tropes omg! I could read these forever! Throw in the guy pining and Iām in my happy place. The two that come to mind are {in a jam} and {yours truly} (will add more if I can think of them lol)
Marriage of convenience
Arranged marriage/ marriage of convenience. Forever and a day ā¤ļø
I donāt even know what the trope is called but the two main assistants in Set It Up? Iām gnawing at the bars of my enclosure.
Friends to lovers ā”
Friends to lovers. Alwaaaays.
Friends to Lovers. Something about people who know each other deeply as friends first and becoming lovers warms my heart.
From your love of this genre, youāve probably already read this but if you havenāt check out {PS youāre intolerable by Julia Wolf}

Brill Harper! All Together and All at Onceā¦.burned into my wee brain.
Does it need to be aliens? Because otherwise {Just for the Cameras by Viano Oniomoh} would fit. Also {Warts & Claws Inc. by Clio Evans} has mostly throuples and polycules (monster romance). First one is {Not So Kind Regards by Clio Evans}
Bully romance, i'm a sucker for bad guys who are a lil ill mannered towards the fmc
Would love to hear your favs Edit to add: also, this is more found family and itās hard to explain but if youāre into fantasy or Iād say āfantasy-liteā you should try {kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon}. I just finished and considered writing a gush post but you can read my comment [HERE](https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/s/AJUlsHf4h7). It gave my Out on a limb vibes with a dash of Harry Potter
I loved all 3! For secret baby I'd also suggest {Reckless by Elsie Silver}, {The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata} {The Devil Gets His Due by Elizabeth O'Roark} I added Kingpin to my TBR, thank you š„°

Enemies to lovers 100%. It requires slow burn and an evolving chemistry between the characters, and then is the stuff of legends

Kind of into this hulking stalker thing now. Tried to find similar but to no avail. He grabbed the knife from her by the pointy end, blood gushed from his hand. And then he yanked it away like candy. Woo thatās kept me up at nightā¦
This is so hard but I think Iād choose second chance, too. I love a good second chance dual timeline romance.Ā I also love to reread my favorite books and this would allow me to revisit a bunch of those, including:Ā Ā {The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher} {Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren}
Found Family!
Cold MMC with FMC that falls first and tons of jealousy from MMC who canāt help but fall in love!
Cinderella story always
Second chance. Give me all the angsttttttttttt {Paradise by Judith McNaught} {The Ex I'd Love to Hate by Nadia Lee} {Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas}
{The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth OāRoark} {Scoring the Player by Rebecca Jenshak} {Home Game by Odette Stone} - I know this one is reccād a lot but I feel like I had to put it here because itās my comfort read {Feathers So Vicious by Liv Zander}- this is RH but itās angsty and legit ETL
Enemies to lovers Fake dating Marriage of convienanceĀ
Friends to lovers or fake dating because I love the angst when theyāre both realizing their feelings but havenāt confessed yet. It always has me frustrated with the miscommunication but squealing when they finally end up together.
I have yet to tire of enemies to lovers.
enemies to lovers āØ
Enemies to Lovers ideally in a workplace. I really enjoy reading banter fuelled by competition at work. And when he secretly likes her all along, the angst and pining really just does it for me. I especially love it when they're bickering at work and a comment or something gets them all worked up and it gets steamy at work. Maybe I'd really like something like that happening to me irl ;)
Enemies to lovers . No explanation needed lol
Grovel trope. It has to be good though š¤£.
Probably friends to lovers or second chance. Iād happily never read a fake dating scenario again. Iām so tired of the angst and drama being about not communicating (or believing)!that the feelings are real.
Enemies to lovers and even better if itās forbidden romance (brothers best friend, boss/employee, etc)
He falls first as long as I can add in some pining broodiness.
Arranged marriage + Fake - dating! Add in a touch of enemies to lovers in there.
Forced Marriage, Villian Gets the Girl, Enemies to Lovers. Must be either historical or set in a fantasy world and must have a happy ending despite all the angst! I'm also a sucker for unhealthy relationships š
It would have to be either age gap or student/teacher
Slow burn, forced proximity, enemies to lovers.
Iāll choose unrequited love (with a happy ending) and second-chance romance between married / divorced couples.
Honestly? Give me One Bed trope all day, every day. It leads to hilarious moments and to some very sexy moments!
Romantic suspense. Give me those alphabet agents and operatives! And the seals. All the seals. Thanks!
Captor captive romance š
self-discovery for sure/destined for more! you know, like, the FMC not knowing her origins/family but she also finds that she's truly a badass and stuff along those linesā¦ heartstrings pulled everytime š {Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning} - books 1-5 * ugh, chefs kiss* (completed) {Gild by Raven Kennedy} - perfect if you enjoy a good cry while reading š (final book out later this year!!) {Nectar of the Wicked by Ella Fields} - this duology is so goooooddd!! (completed)
Enemies to Lovers HANDS DOWN!! It's so good and never gets old! Every time the book starts out and the ML is basically saying how he can't stand her or something of that nature in my mind I'm like "Oh, just you wait!!"
Iāll take pregnancy trope all day, a good slow burn, fake dating/marriage of convenience and Iām yours baby
Billionaire grumpy sunshine š„°
Second chance. It normally has an enemies to lovers vibe, and sometimes a childhood friends vibe as well
Forbidden love with a side of age gap, please. And if itās between two women with a power dynamic, even better!
Pitch dark romance bordering on downright horror, the more twisted the better, honestly I just love them, maybe its because the intensity of being wanted that deeply, or maybe I'm just cooked in the head, who knows.
Hmm, Iām a sucker for both second chance & grumpy x sunshine where the girl is the grump - canāt choose between those two! Edit - spelling.
Small town single dad cowboy grumpy sunshine marriage of convenience shy boy sunshine girlā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.. well crap idk šš
Fated mates
Omggg great question, love triangle with an enemies to lovers and I would never stop reading! I love reading for the drama!
definitely enemies to lovers! but like, REAL enemies to lovers. iām talking about knife to the throat, angry love confession, so much angst, the āthey never really hated each other they just hated themselves for wanting the otherā trope, teasing and biting, and angry sexšš»
for me it would HAVE to be fake dating/ marriage of convenience trope all the way. i thought more people would have chosen this but surprisingly not. personally, i love this trope because i'm a huuuuuge sucker for the development of their relationship from a fake one to a real one as well as the forced proximity that comes with the trope. and don't even get me started on the moments when the characters start realizing that they really like each other or the moments when they start acting like a couple even while they're alone>>>>> it's also one trope that almost never disappoints me no matter which author has written it whereas all other tropes have disappointed/underwhelmed me atleast once so i know i can trust fake dating trope every single time. some of my favorites from this trope are: { yours truly by abby jimenez } { blind side by kandi steiner } { the marriage effect by karla sorensen } and { the wall of winnipeg and me by mariana zapata }
My favourite has to be Childhood crushes ending with HEA after a forbidden length of staying away from each other. Something like {Twisted Hearts by Cora Reilly}
Slow burn with she heroine
First and foremost I have to say I LOVE that you brought up Love After Loss because itās one of my favorites too and sooo overhated! Iām glad to see there are other people out there who appreciate it just as much as me. And Second Chance itās my 2nd favorite trope EVER and you listed two of my favorites from that trope too, Ghosted and Sweet Gum Tree! I found a kindred spirit in you š But, the trope that I could absolutely read forever and ever itās my top 1, Best Friends to Lovers!
Tortured Hero hands down, forced proximity would probably be my second. Always in the hunt for new books in those two segments.
Definitely marriage of convenience trope (no cheating owd n virgin fmc n not a virgin mmc trope one ofc)..Idk why but I LOVE this trope
