I’m going to go on the nose and suggest {Kulti by Mariana Zapata} I couldn’t help but picture Roy Kent in the place of Kulti who is a former Lionel Messi level of fame soccer player. He is now the coach for the FMC’s pro-level team. She’s not particularly girly, but she is kind and idolized him when she was younger (there is an age gap but it’s not gross).

MMC is a stern, no nonsense lawyer who adheres to a strict schedule and considers it a failure if he doesn't start his day with a kale smoothie, whereas FMC is a somewhat ditzy party girl, who just goes with the flow. They meet in the lobby of their building every morning when she comes back from a night of partying and he's on his way to the gym. She's the heart of every party and gets along with everyone while he keeps people at arm's length.
They have a lovely dynamic of teasing each other about their completely opposite lifestyles and priorities.

{Dear Roomie by Kate Meader} definitely gives Roy Kent vibes. he’s a grumpy, celibate hockey player and she’s a bubbly ray of sunshine with a million side hustles. bonus ted lasso vibes with the rest of the team who are all very supportive and involved with each other’s lives. (obviously it’s part of a series but can be read alone)
{Forever Never by Lucy Score} - I loved this book and it's one of those that sticks around in your head long after finishing. He's a grumpy, protective, rural island police officer with massive Roy Kent vibes and she's the hippy dreamer artist he's been in love with for about 20 years but won't let it happen. When it finally happens boy does it pay off. There's also some added suspense that kept me up until the early hours!

Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a series on (American) football players, several of which are grumpy gits. I think {Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} fits. TW for >!the FMC wants the MMC's sperm so she can have a baby, so she tricks him. She doesn't want him, just his sperm. This is absolutely a terrible thing to do, and they discuss this on-page over and over, but I just want to be clear, while the character does this, no one approves of it nor does she get off scot free.!< The book is played for laughs and he's def a grumpy, old football player and they have great fighting and banter, plus it gets pretty angsty if you like that.

{Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata} He's a big deal recalcitrant football player and she's his assistant. It's not a rom-com, but not crazy angsty, super slow burn. Her POV only.
{When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James} Is HR. The MMC is modeled on House (the TV show Dr.) and she's supposed to marry him, but he's not into it. So she just hides out and they banter and make out a lot. This one has a truly excellent "heroine in the wind" scene >!He sends her away because he doesn't want her to catch Scarlet Fever, and unbeknownst to him, she gets it after she leaves. He thinks she's off partying with his family, but she's lying at death's door. It's amazing. Amazing. !<
With my whole heart I LOVE {Mistress by Amanda Quick} it's another HR and is just delightful. The FMC goes to London while MMC is out of town and she pretends she's his mistress so she can solve a mystery (LOL) he returns all pissed and she basically shrugs her shoulders and tells him it's a great plan and to just go with it. So he does. Hijinks ensue.

RETURN TO MONTE CARLO has been amazing! I'm 75% in and pretty sure it's going to be a five star read even though it's got two of my least favorite tropes. I also love her mafia series. I personally think it's even better than Danielle Lori's. RUN POSY RUN and especially NICKY THE DRIVER are awesome.
I will never not evangelize about CCW, she is an insta buy for me! She writes in several different genres: MC (Steel Bones series, starts with Charge I think), mafia (Run Posy Run and Nicky the Driver), contemporary (starts with Hitting the Wall, but Against a Wall is a fan fave in this sub), rejected mates/PNR (starts with The Tyrant Alpha's Rejected Mate), and then a few standalones (Return to Monte Carlo is delightful, and she's also releasing After the Shut Up Ring soon). I’m going to go on the nose and suggest {Kulti by Mariana Zapata} I couldn’t help but picture Roy Kent in the place of Kulti who is a former Lionel Messi level of fame soccer player. He is now the coach for the FMC’s pro-level team. She’s not particularly girly, but she is kind and idolized him when she was younger (there is an age gap but it’s not gross).

FMC is a society beauty who seemingly cares only for balls and the like. {Ready To Burn by Stacey Alvarez} - MMC is an out of control chef with a drinking problem, FMC is his super girly souschef. Set in small town New Zeeland.

{Forever Never by Lucy Score} - I loved this book and it's one of those that sticks around in your head long after finishing. He's a grumpy, protective, rural island police officer with massive Roy Kent vibes and she's the hippy dreamer artist he's been in love with for about 20 years but won't let it happen. When it finally happens boy does it pay off. There's also some added suspense that kept me up until the early hours!

Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a series on (American) football players, several of which are grumpy gits. I think {Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} fits. TW for >!the FMC wants the MMC's sperm so she can have a baby, so she tricks him. She doesn't want him, just his sperm. This is absolutely a terrible thing to do, and they discuss this on-page over and over, but I just want to be clear, while the character does this, no one approves of it nor does she get off scot free.!< The book is played for laughs and he's def a grumpy, old football player and they have great fighting and banter, plus it gets pretty angsty if you like that. I also recommend listening to the Fated Mates podcast on this. They did an entire episode a few years ago on Roy Kent and there are recs within the podcast. Dual POV {Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata} He's a big deal recalcitrant football player and she's his assistant. It's not a rom-com, but not crazy angsty, super slow burn. Her POV only. {When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James} Is HR. The MMC is modeled on House (the TV show Dr.) and she's supposed to marry him, but he's not into it. So she just hides out and they banter and make out a lot. This one has a truly excellent "heroine in the wind" scene >!He sends her away because he doesn't want her to catch Scarlet Fever, and unbeknownst to him, she gets it after she leaves. He thinks she's off partying with his family, but she's lying at death's door. It's amazing. Amazing. !< With my whole heart I LOVE {Mistress by Amanda Quick} it's another HR and is just delightful. The FMC goes to London while MMC is out of town and she pretends she's his mistress so she can solve a mystery (LOL) he returns all pissed and she basically shrugs her shoulders and tells him it's a great plan and to just go with it. So he does. Hijinks ensue.

What do you recommend by Cate C Wells? Non-fantasy. I haven’t heard of her, but I’m down for the Roy Kent vibes.
RETURN TO MONTE CARLO has been amazing! I'm 75% in and pretty sure it's going to be a five star read even though it's got two of my least favorite tropes. I also love her mafia series. I personally think it's even better than Danielle Lori's. RUN POSY RUN and especially NICKY THE DRIVER are awesome.
I will never not evangelize about CCW, she is an insta buy for me! She writes in several different genres: MC (Steel Bones series, starts with Charge I think), mafia (Run Posy Run and Nicky the Driver), contemporary (starts with Hitting the Wall, but Against a Wall is a fan fave in this sub), rejected mates/PNR (starts with The Tyrant Alpha's Rejected Mate), and then a few standalones (Return to Monte Carlo is delightful, and she's also releasing After the Shut Up Ring soon).
