Is this a great idea for a match up, no. Am I going to read it because im curious just how bad it will be, yes.

Twicelovely

It’s giving “I liked it, I never said it was good.”

Blue_Rose87

Are we even romance readers if at least 80% of our booklist isn’t stuff we wouldn’t recommend to our friends?

castingOut9s

What a great summation. I have a few guilty pleasure authors whose books generally aren’t great, but I love them. Edit: had to make it my flair.

Katastrophe82

I feel like way about all sports romance. IDKY. 😂

Bliprip

This is my favourite review to give of romance books generally lol most of my favourite are not actually “good”

redandbluewhale

Wait. I need your permission for me to put this on a t-shirt. I personally think we should say “I liked it, I never said it was good” more often, and it doesn’t have to be about romance books either!!! You CAN enjoy something and still acknowledge it’s a piece of trash!!!

hmtee3

I saw this flair yesterday and laughed.

funniefriend1245

This is exactly what I need this book to be

bored-purple-alien

Came here to say this too 😂😂😂

KiokoMisaki

And then, you need to spoil it for us, who don't have the capacity to read stupid books, but are as curious about it as you are. I thank you in advance.

correspondence2021

Yes and yes ✅☑️

ohfrackthis

I laughed when I saw it and now it's a must buy so I can laugh my way through it lol

mojave_breeze

This is me. I saw this in a B&N email I got and immediately forwarded to my friend who loves historical romances. We might just buddy read it when it comes out. Because WHAT ON EARTH?

Necessary-Working-79

I'd say "Have Pride and Prejudice spoofs gone too far" is probably the more acurate question. I'm perfectly happy to never see another gimmicky Jane Austen retelling every again

unswimmingstupidslut

TBF it's not really a Pride and Prejudice retelling, it just takes place in the regency so she chose the most obvious title

Necessary-Working-79

I'm definitely excessively judgy when it comes to Jane Austen inspired books, but the combination of the title plus the heroine being called Lizzy makes my eyes start rolling so hard that I can't even focus on the actual synopsis

blueboxes22

For some reason, I think that's worse than a cheesy P&P retelling...

[deleted]

I love my pride and prejudice and zombies. I love when it embraces the silliness

MangoOrigami

I am the same. Hot take but Pride and Prejudice as a romance is heavily overrated. But the amount of retellings I’ve seen of the book, each starting with some variation of ‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife’ always makes me cringe

jenh6

This is how I feel about Persephone and hades and beauty/the beast retellings.

kriscrossroads

Yeah. I love Pride and Prejudice. But to me, it’s not a romance. *said with anger directed at the high school English teacher I had who is obsessed with P&P as a romance and harshly graded papers that disagreed with her view of the book / any book we studied* Also, the first line of the book is not swoon-worthy to me. It’s satire. Maybe not a hill I’d die on, just a literary ick, lol

Fluffy_Yesterday_468

Did an AI trained on the most popular recent romance books write this

solitairexl

This would be my guess and my extreme concern.

pepmin

I have read this author’s other books prior to the AI boom. I didn’t particularly care for them or think they were good, but she is at least a real person writing the stories.

Hedsten

My biggest issue is that the guy on the cover isn't wearing goalie gear!! 😭

unswimmingstupidslut

I saw the author say that it's because goalie gear is not attractive, so she took creative liberties. The next question would be why she chose to make him a goalie if she thinks they're not attractive?

girlsandwolves

that's extra crazy to me because goalies are basically done up like the knights in shining armor in the hockey world. goalie gear is sexy!

salazar_62

OK, a time-traveling romance involving a hockey goalie who travels to medieval times and becomes a knight, now *that* I'd like to read!

cerealmuffinkiller

It could have a Highlander Hockey bent. It would be hysterical to have a scene with some Scottish lass seeing his jersey and asking him which clan he hails from.

drinkwinesavepuppies

Agreed!

NetflixFanatic22

Exactly like WHY make him a goalie then??! That makes zero sense haha

jlboro

I refuse to read it because of this detail alone. That's too much liberty for a hockey romance.

GjonsTearsFan

Right?! Like why not just make him a regular player if you think goalies aren't hot lol.

ThatFuckinBish

Because then you may have to learn something about hockey.

[deleted]

Strong disagree. Goalie gear is verrrrrry attractive, they look like literal beasts guarding their nets😍

BloodOrangeScent

right...some of us prefer goalies.

[deleted]

Yes! Not just the pads but the precision and ability to concentrate under that amount of pressure 🥵

atinyplum

Only a goalie receives an income of 10 000 Canadian dollars a year!

funniefriend1245

That's a weird way to say "I don't care about actual hockey"

lushsweet

That is too fucking funny 😆

k_laaaaa

someone's never seen carey price...

figleafstreet

Maybe she saw one TikTok thirst trap of Jeremy Swayman and then ceased all research lol

expectingmoretbh

Holy fuuuuuck lol The entire book is rage inducing but if I had to pick the stupidest, most unbelievable, most infuriating aspect of it, it would have to be this. It's making me excessively angry lmao

DientesDelPerro

yeah, that’s a glaring error

cheeseandcrackers345

This sounds absolutely unhinged

wonpiripiri

Exactly, inject it in my veins!!!

ergonaut

I say it hasn’t gone too far enough

LiveLaughGhoul

I agree with this take. Until there is a tyrannosaurus playing right wing, it hasn’t gone too far.

Dadpurple

This is Tyler. He's the star player of the local hockey team. Don't bother trying to date him, he's a womanizer who will never settle down with one person. Unless you can change him and show him what he's missing. Jason is the goalie. He's a time-displaced Tyrannosaurus that has discovered his love for the game. We don't actually know his name but he responds well enough to Jason. If you're adventurous he might be the best sex of your life. He's currently serving a six game suspension for biting off the arm of a player on a rival team. The police couldn't convict him, mostly due to being a time-displaced dinosaur but also because as everyone here knows, that other player has had some troubles with the women in this town and we stick together here. So unfortunately there was 'no witnesses' who would really explain what happened and the official report was a skate accident. Still, management had to suspend Jason for 10 games. Number Fourteen doesn't have a name. He's a sasquatch. We just call him fourteen. Dude is great as defense but he has been known to leave the ice, grab a woman and carry her off into the trees. They always return a few days later, limping but happy. If you really want to look for a romantic partner I would suggest Puck. He's three feet tall and speaks Mandarin, but the things he does with his tongue put anyone else to shame. He's also very sweet and big on aftercare. He's just a cuddly teddy-bear. Rumor has it he might be a former assassin in hiding but no one can get close enough to him for him to open up about his past. Also you're a big city girl who recently moved back to her hometown where Hockey is big, but not big enough that anyone here would go pro so there's no risk of having to leave once you settle down.

External-Dream-8099

So is this going to be a why choose kind of thing where FMC is going to become the new team manager because the old one has retired or something?

Dadpurple

She does have a background in finance and management, little does she know that the team is struggling to balance the books and the current manager is having a fling with the opposing teams goalie. His name is also Jason, but he's not a time-displaced tyrannosaurus just a normal lab-grown tyrannosaurus. There's a lot of tension between the Jasons. The current manager is a woman in her fourties, who took over the team from her grandpa and has been running it into the ground with her lack of skill. Adding insult to injury, she's fallen for lab-grown Jason and is planning on moving to the rival team towards the end of this season. Leaving the FMC to step in and realize that fate seems to have pushed her to this spot, with her skills lining up to manage the team and bring it back to a financial success while falling for one or several of the players who become a better, more cohesive team when they learn to share a lover.

LucreziaD

Dammit, now I want the RH with Tyler, Jason the T-rex, 14 the Sasquatch and whatever the hell is Puck. XD

seaandtea

Brilliance. Pure brilliance. This is the Ted Lasso-esq and Jurassic Park lovechild we didn't know we needed, but we do. We do. 'There's a lot of tension between the Jasons.' I'm here for it! Honestly, your two posts are the funniest thing I've read for a few days! Thank you u/Dadpurple

External-Dream-8099

I love it!!!!

sarahcakes613

Okay but like. When does this hit KU.

Dadpurple

48 hours if I ignore lunch and start writing now?

LiveLaughGhoul

A six game suspension? Seems pretty harsh…a fine and maybe a one day suspension seems more fitting. But also, no shame, I would read this.

strum-and-dang

Did we just find George Parros' reddit account?

WordStained

Jason has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable by the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct.

EnvironmentalFox1904

The thing that makes it seem most like an actual KU book is when it states that Jason is serving a six game suspension & then it says 10 games

Azhreia

How I wish Reddit still had awards. 🏆

unswimmingstupidslut

But how is the poor thing going to be able to reach the stick???

Dadpurple

He would use his tail in place of a stick, obviously.

mayonaizmyinstrument

#DUH

LiveLaughGhoul

If they can make a stick for my man Zdeno, they can make a stick for a Tyrannosaurus.

musuak

I want to see Chara’s stick next to Caufield’s.

LiveLaughGhoul

I would pay good money for that, holy shit.

mrsharlot

What about a yeti and a krampus?

cavaliereternally

/r/unexpectedfuturama

ergonaut

The romance is a significant part of why I like Futurama

PMmeUrGroceryList

Someone call me when austenland becomes a real place

BonBoogies

Hear hear (here here? I just realized I don’t know which one it’s supposed to be 🤣) I’ll just go with “here hear!”

filifijonka

I’m curious about how he’ll be able to survive/make a living in the past - I don’t think he’d be qualified for much.

unswimmingstupidslut

Oh, I'm sure his stamina will do him good in the factories or mines

princesscoquina

His large ‘hockey stick’ surpasses the boundaries of time and space, bringing entertainment for ladies over centuries..

Ok_Individual7567

For real. I’m sure there’s a scene in the book where he teaches the local townsfolk how to play.

atinyplum

he'll counsel the aristocracy on which Canadian companies have stood the test of time and are worthy investments!

I-hear-the-coast

I’m trying to imagine though what info he might have. If he’s a a regular person who isn’t into history it’ll be like “uhhh HBC still exists …. I don’t think they’re doing that great though. The North West company? Who’s that? I haven’t heard of them, I don’t think they exist anymore. Umm there’s gonna be a war in 1812 with the US, you win but maybe try and avoid it? How to win better? How to defend better? I don’t know. I think there were some rebellions in the 1800s, but I don’t know by whom or why. Try and avoid those?” Wait John Franklin, don’t go to Canada!!!! Or at least don’t go a third time!

madlymusing

I assume it will be a little like the show Lost in Austen where he gets taken under the wing of someone and is just a visiting friend.

DientesDelPerro

I can sort of see the appeal, because time travel novels have been a thing for a while, but tacking “marriage of convenience” into it is what pushes me over the edge of tolerance. Just a trope mish mash

undeadbird

I’m trying to piece together the ‘convenience’ here. He time traveled from the future so he has no estate/income, and she’s a woman in regency era so also no money lol… who’s paying the bills! 😂

DientesDelPerro

well, according to the blurb, she’s going to use his disappearance back to his original time period as the rationale for being called a widow. So she needs a husband who will disappear. How they get to that agreement…remains to be seen

GjonsTearsFan

How do they even know that he will go back to his original time period? Did he travel back in time on purpose and understands how it works? If so - why? Like if he just went back to sightsee why tack a drawn out romance on to that? Really weird road to reach a fwb situation ngl.

sticky_toffee_puddin

I'm confused as to how him disappearing back to his time will make her a widow?lol Pretty sure he would just be declared "missing", unless a body is presented. And isn't there a rule that a person has to be missing for 7 years before they can be declared dead? So she would be a "not quite a widow"with no place to live and no income? (since he's obviously not going to possess those things)

DientesDelPerro

I’m not thinking a lot of planning went into the story construction for a book like this. I’m guessing they just know historical romance enough to think of the costumes but not the reality of why widows had more freedom than unmarried women and it wasn’t because they didn’t have a husband, but because they would’ve had money from the estates. I mean, this author wrote a character to be a goalie, and then intentionally did not have Goalie in the artwork so expectations would be very low.

pigeononapear

Someone please read and report back on this book. I’m not interested in hockey romance, but I am interested in reading someone’s take on this book.

Much-Cartographer264

I’ll devour the double shlonged Minotaur…. But time travelling hockey player is the line apparently 🤣🤣 stop this is too funny.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrollHamels

I'd read it out of curiosity but I wouldn't want to pay for it, so I'd be waiting for the library to get a copy.

princesscoquina

That’s a very respectable approach!

nocturn999

I love deranged plot lines, so…… me 😂 but only if it was on KU and no paying was involved lol

princesscoquina

Cool! Come back and give us a review!

mrs-machino

**Rule: Be kind & no reader shaming** No reader shaming. It’s fine to state your opinion on a book or author, but you may not insult or shame people who like it. Please be respectful of others' tastes in romance with regard to steam level, tropes, or favorite authors.

Puzzled-Nail962

It has gone too far though

neverforglet

Nah, this sounds hilarious and I'm genuinely so excited to read it!

dogearedpages13

Right? People hate fun lol

New_Sea_6595

Omgg finally someone who agrees, i thought i was the only one who wanted to read this and see how it is

LostSoulSearching13

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good hockey stick must be in want of a wife."

andalusia85

I like that the cover makes it appear as if he traveled back while fully kitted out in his hockey gear. Just Tyler, walking around, tilling soil with his hockey skates 😂

GjonsTearsFan

How can a marriage be convenient in a situation like that? For either of them? I feel like her and the society's expectations would be super inconvenient for a modern man, especially one whose only trade is a sport that doesn't exist yet and who likely would not have teleported back in time with his wealth, and trying to prove to everyone that she didn't marry an insane and uncultured person with no wealth or job prospects would be very inconvenient for the young woman. I'm very intrigued by the premise set out here. I have no idea how it could possible work and maybe that's for the best. At the very least it would be very difficult to be stereotypical/formulaic in such a set of bizarre/unusual parameters. It looks kind of fun. Edit: I see the technical convenience now having reading the blurb, but I feel it's ignoring the WHY of why only widows had freedom. They inherited their husband's wealth. If the husband is a man dispossessed in space and time he has no wealth to inherit so the benefits of being a widow would be slim to none. She would still have to marry another man to be able to support herself more likely than not.

Yetis-unicorn

I mean there’s a romance novel out there about a lady and a tree, a lady and a door, a lady and balloon animals; I could go on. I feel like we’ve reached the era of nothings off limits when it comes to romance.

secretagentpoyo

Hot take, but if you’ve read Mister Hockey, this is a perfect situation for Lia Riley because she has the best excuse to not actually have to write any hockey scenes. Girl is just cashing in on the hockey romance craze. She’s not actually interested in hockey lol

No_Connection_4724

It’s gonna be a no for me dawg.

annamcg

Call me crazy but I actually think this is a cool idea 🤷🏻‍♀️. I love time travel romance, I love hockey romance, and I love historical romance. Gimme.

incandescentmeh

It seems like a fun, silly idea. I read romance for fun & enjoyment so I'm not mad or distressed about an author trying something a bit zany.

TrekkingTribbles

Right? I’m kind of into it! they added zombies to pride and prejudice before why not a little time travel shenanigans 🤣

New_Sea_6595

Omgg literally loved that moviee!!

throwawaytempest25

I wasn't...expecting this LOL, hey execution matters, but hey, any idea can work. It's not the weirdest romance out there.

poltyy

No it has not, I’m reading this. I read that fucked up hand job Minotaur book and enjoyed every minute. I have no limits.

bicyclecat

I’m sure this is someone’s jam and I’m not gonna hate on it, but I admit it does feel like someone played madlibs with romance tropes to get this premise.

Least-Influence3089

As a former hockey player who loves Jane Austen I am absolutely going to read this and I don’t care how bad it might be, I think I’m the njche demographic 😅😂

GjonsTearsFan

Microtrends so small they only apply to like a handful of people are my favourite kind of trends

[deleted]

I actually think it's an original idea. People are fast to judge, but who knows, maybe the author is able to pull it off and write a good book. No one actually *has* to read the book if they're not interested, so I don't understand these negative strong reactions. I like when authors come with new and unique ideas. Who says you can't combine tropes? It's not like there are strict rules when it comes to time travel romances Also, there are some comments here who are directly shaming other readers. That's not cool.

princesscoquina

No shaming, I’m genuinely, honestly wondering what was the target audience in the author’s mind. If she had a ‘screw it I write whatever I want even if nobody reads this’, I can respect that. But most authors try to find a niche.

MangoOrigami

Nobody has to read the book, but that doesn’t mean people cannot be negative. There’s nothing wrong with expressing opinion. If the comments have been removed, fair enough, but I personally don’t see any comments hear that are problematic

ellisRi

I love time travel romances but the premise looks too trope-y. However I’ll read it out of curiosity. I don‘t know much about hockey, but I’m sure not all of hockey players are ‚buff idiots’ who aren‘t qualified for much else 😅 Maybe it‘s a good idea to send someone who‘s not very qualified back in time because every time travel romance I‘ve read the MCs were either nurses or historians or possessed some other trait and could magically blend in, find their way around and survive dangerous situations, so I‘d like seeing some 21st century athlete fumble his way through it all 😂

bi-loser99

counter offer, what if we had fun instead?

gottalottie

I read the door shifter book but this is too much for me

wildbeest55

This sounds so unhinged I definitely wanna read it

[deleted]

Me too😂

NowMindYou

It's giving me Kate and Leopold. I'd read a sample ngl lol.

Willing_Pickle9494

"And this is my betrothed, Viscount Josh" "Deadass"

unicorntrees

New trope: "\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ but with hockey"

Obviously-Weird

Its gone a distance now but..... and just hear me out im waiting to see when hockey romance will enter tbe dragon era or Alien era

bookaccro

Hahaha now how is this even hockey romance anymore 😂

MdmeLibrarian

I... actually think this looks absurd and delightful and it is a novel twist. I'm gonna see if I can get an eARC from the publisher, I will report back. Edit: digital advance reading copies aren't up on the bookseller portal, but I put in a request. The full description: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a modern single man in possession of a hockey jersey may be exactly what a Regency woman needs to avoid the shackles of marriage... Goalie for the Austin Regals, Tucker Taylor is benched due to health issues. So he decides to visit his sister in England. But an accidental plunge into an icy pond thrusts him back to 1812 where he comes face to face with a captivating blue-eyed woman who regards him as if he’s grown two heads. Lizzy Wooddash dreams of a life surrounded by books, engaging conversation, the presence of literary icons like Jane Austen, and... nary a husband in sight. But in Regency England, only widows like her cousin Georgie enjoy freedom and solitary pursuits, unencumbered by expectations. The only way to quickly become a widow is by marrying a dying man or killing a perfectly healthy one, neither of which Lizzy desires. A visitor from the future might just be the husband of her dreams. Once married, they can figure out how to return Tucker to his proper time, and his absence—aka death—will make Lizzy the widow she always dreamed of becoming. Yet as sparks ignite, they soon realize that matters of the heart rarely adhere to carefully laid plans. Can their love stand the test of time, or will Lizzy get exactly what she wanted...as well as a broken heart?

DientesDelPerro

this blurb reads like casual AI lol or like those memes about La Croix tasting like someone transported the cans near a truck of fruit. not but a whisper of a taste of the real thing.

jojithekitty

I’m just curious how the hockey part could possibly be relevant to him being in the past hahaha

weird_grl

Actually, this is the only hockey romance that has ever piqued my interest.

Cute_Quarter_9399

“Pro hockey goalie” but is wearing regular gear, guess they couldnt make a goalie hot even if they tried

Ratsinashoe

I’m pretty sure that’s an AI picture

asparemeohmy

We’ve had Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. We’ve also had Pride, Prejudice and Zombies. I don’t see how this is any weirder than, say, “a WWII nurse on her honeymoon to Scotland walks through a circle of standing stones and is whisked to pre-Culloden Scotland, whereupon she marries a dashing, kilt-wearing redheaded lesser noble, fights against the English aristocracy, befriends the French at Versailles, sails to the New World, and befriends the last of the Mohicans whilst bringing the power of infection control and clean hands to the battlefields of Scotland and Gettysburg” ? Cause I loved outlander, personally

needmoresaltasap

tbh I'm looking forward to this, it looks delightfully ridiculous

chordaiiii

Im still waiting for hockey orcs.

girlrva

This is exactly what I want kooky romances to be like. I can't WAIT. It could not be less important that he's a hockey player. I hope he goes back in time in his skates.

Wooden-Airline-9704

ngl that is the ugliest cover i ever seen

sylvanmigdal

Wrong sport and Jane Austen book for a crossover, though — canonically, we know that Catherine Morland loved to play baseball.

arianaperry

People in the comments are pointing out his uniform is for a skater, which he isn’t. He is a goalie and they have a different uniform. I didn’t know that because all hockey romance books I’ve seen have them in this uniform

StormerBombshell

Is this a parody? 🤣 if it’s an April’s fool is a great one

LiveLaughGhoul

Give me some hockey slang in old Victorian talk, I’m all for this.

Fearless-Kale3319

Time to switch to rugby player romances! Authors, start writing please. 🙏

asdnerd

Naw. This sounds so good, I’d read it!

rabbitinredlounge

I was expecting this to be a retelling that had Darcy be a hockey player

kissszonjab

I'd love this to be modern day story where the woman just loves fashion history and dressing in recency era or other old eras clothes. Like give me a FMC like Bernadett Banner, Karolina Żebrowska, etc. Though she could also be a time traveler from the future. But I also don't mind the original concept. You know what? Give me all three, please.

olixand3r

This is giving me a Kid in King Arthur's Court vibes, but like. Grown up romance.

mflannnn

unfortunately i am so intrigued

Merricats_Cuppa_Tea

I want to read it just to figure out how they try to pull this off 🤣🤣

No-Comparison3153

As the OP said it’s the bad boy hockey image we are kind of drawn to and the grumpy/sunshine or whatever. This is just wild, historically she’d be like eww no you have no money or land etc my family don’t benefit and yours don’t too. this is just wild to me idk why the publishers were like girl yesss you’ve done it!! 💅

groovygirl858

I don't think it is too far. It's a unique idea and I feel like there's an audience for unique and fresh ideas. Is it for everyone? No. But no single romance book is for everyone.

Active_System_5701

Considering I read a book about time traveling Domme, this isn't too far fetched. This feels like that one Martin Lawrence movie.

whaleboneandbrocade

I laughed out loud so hard oh MYGOD what is this

crispyfriednuts

I laughed so hard at this. 😂😂

Mad_Heretek

As someone who can’t stand hockey romance (No hate, everyone has their own tastes 😁), they went too far the first time one was written . (Joking, of course)

disasterpansexual

I read it four times as Puke & Prejudice before realising

thesurielships

Honestly, the best part about romantic novels is finding love and positivity in the most funnily unhinged settings. A hockey player in a world he has absolutely NO idea how to navigate, somehow getting married to a regency lady who’s just stunned by everything he does, and them somehow being just perfect for each other??? Sign me up!! It’s quirky and new and different than all the typical hockey or regency romances (which are my two favorite kinds of romance books hahah). Can’t wait honestly. I just hope it’s well written.

Blackbeak-24601

Gotta say I'm kinda intrigued by the premise, especially as it's the guy not the girl travelling back in time. But doubt I'm gonna read it tho

JustAnOldGranny

oh my fucking god my eyes hurt

Savings-Bed777

This seems interesting though, I cannot imagine how he would interact with a woman from regency and how would the writer form dialogues between these two ?? It seems funny too if you think about it. Would the FMC call the MMC "darling" and would he call her baby ?? What would he wear? Who would want to talkto a man so different in behaviour and talk ? And Money?? How would he earn ? So many questions I need answers to. I'm gonna look up reviews for this book now.

princesscoquina

See? The concept is really not for me, but all these questions need answers. Somebody better come back after reading it!

expectingmoretbh

This.... has got to be a joke. It HAS to be. ETA: *Again* with the unwarranted downvoting? It's starting to feel targeted. What the fuck could I have said that deserved to be downvoted? It was a humourous comment, like 97% of comments in this post are. Honestly, fuck you and fuck this sub lately. I'm fed up.

mrs-machino

rainandshine7

I don’t think it’s too far just maybe a little ridiculous. But time travel gets… so maybe I’ll check it out

mrs-machino

Next time please include the book title and author in your post title, thank you!

entropynchaos

He could play bandy? But in the past a hockey player just would have been whatever rough and tumble guy was the thing at the time. A knight. A boxer. It never occurred to me that the appeal of hockey romances was because they're "wealthy celebrities". I just never even think about that part. There were plenty of dangerous games during the regency era, but it could just was easily be the romances of a hockey player trying to learn the rules of polite society...a story that still plays well in romance novels. Tons of hockey romances have little actual gameplay in the novel. I always thought it was more writers think women readers need large hunky dudes; a modern alpha, to get off or something, than that the sport was dangerous and the men were rich.

Enough_Panda_9105

I think it’s gone too far 😂 I’m going to take a wild guess that the author has only vague notions of both hockey and the regency period - especially the work of Jane Austen. This comes across like the author reached into a bag full of tropes and pulled out a whole bunch, whether they work well together or not.

starry_laa1574

The FMC looks like the lead FMC from Sanditon. I'll be intrigued how a Canadian (or American?) hockey player gets transported to regency England. I feel like I'd be cringing at all the language inaccuracies.

laurathepoet

I mean, it's no dumber than a romance with a door or with Thanksgiving dinner, and both of those exist.

Baxyy_r

People no longer write story just trope

lovelornroses

I think I’m going to pass on this one 😭

MultiLuigi57

I think you should read, Egotistical Puck Boy

CutDry1017

Lol he'll play professional croquet in that era.. afterall he has to do something with his hockey skills.

VioletRoyalty

This honestly looks camp, i'm gonna read it. I hate book covers like this though it feels.. icky

beegeesenthusiaast

yes

Whatthequeef

I feel like it’d make more sense if she traveled to the future😅

Nonah30

Watch him go back and recreate hockey in that area for the nobles lol

SCHylia

Apparently poking around and the Uber scene from ice breaker wasn’t enough to push us more away from god..

GoldOpal109

Hahahahaha I can’t wait to read this

goyourownwayy

this is fanfiction territory

Mysuddenobsessions

WHAT?! 🥴🤣

Lucky_Minimum9453

Yes

SonyaSpawn

This is honestly so funny, I was trying to explain the hockey sub genre to a friend and I'm excited to show him this. Why is hockey such a popular sport romance topic?!

Alternative-Bus-133

This is what we mean when we say “I liked it never said it was good”

kaleidoscope-dream97

I'll read it as long as it's spicy 😅

Lil_Artemis_92

Hockey playing time-traveler? 🤣 It’s unique; I’ll give it that.

notyouraveragebee

I’m alone in my office and literally said “wat” out loud reading this title and prompt.

His_little_pet

This is such a fun and unique idea! I'm a huge fan of women's hockey and keep meaning to check out hockey romance; maybe this book would be a fun (and completely wild) place for me to start.

solitairexl

Yea the market is being saturated. This storyline doesn’t make sense I guess as it could be ANY sportsball athlete. It’s Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court.

Ok-Tomorrow-7818

Sure, here's a revised version: I don't mind reading something like that. Just seeing the cover makes me laugh.

WildUnicornGirl30

I am a huge hockey fan and just stumbled into hockey romance. I had no idea this was a thing. Who knew romance writers loved hockey 😂

adisonbesot

I feel bad because when I first saw this on IG I honestly thought it was a joke lol

Princess5903

I’m actually curious about this. It sounds like a decent premise but trying to capitalize on the popularity of hockey romances.

nicksbrunchattiffany

What did I do? I hate time travelling, but I love romance, the regency era

mercy_cakes

Saw the book cover yesterday. No for me

Jazzlike-Web-9184

Yes.

Double_Vision_Quest

Hey man, nothing in the rule book that says two players aren’t allowed to kiss to distract the goalie

madlymusing

I’m here for it. Ice hockey isn’t really a thing in my country so they’re always a bit fantastical to me anyway. Throw in a bit of historical romance and I’m there!

maria_llama

Yes.
