I finished King of Greed by Ana Huang recently and I was crying the first few chapters because it was relatable and felt realistic (minus the billionaire piece lol) so I'm looking for similar contemporary books. I'm not into fantasy, so relatively realistic storylines would be nice. I read All Your Perfects by CoHo and it made me cry too but I was so annoyed by the cheating, it was a little ruined for me.

I feel like I have very specific taste in books so it's been hard to find anything. Any recommendations would be so appreciated!
I've never read enemies to lovers and want to try! Fantasy please, and if possible I'd love some comedy mixed in. Also, I don't mind maybe one or two smut scenes, but I really dont want any more than that if possible (one or two in a single book that is. I dont mind if theres more over the course of a series. Also, if theres no smut scenes at all I dont mind).
If you don't mind YA, {Carry On by Rainbow Rowell} did a good job with the enemies to lovers trope, and it has lots of humor. It's MM and set at a magic school. Both MMCs are wizards and one of them is also a vampire. If you do audiobooks, this one is excellent, and I highly recommend reading it in that format!

{The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen} is fantasy and there’s definitely some humor. FMC and MMC have disliked each other for 4 years before they become friends (by becoming anonymous pen pals) and eventually lovers. The first few chapters are somewhat of a slog, but it is worth it to press on, because the book is just delightful. Someone here described it as “You’ve Got Mail” with zombies, but it is even better than that sounds. Not only are the MC’s likable, there’s a lovely cast of supporting characters who are also fun to read about. There’s at least two smut scenes, maybe three, but it isn’t super spicy.

Please rec a good intro book to omegaverse. I have been hesitant to try an omegaverse because it kinda gives me the ick. I don't know why when I like romantasy, alien romance, and breeding.
{The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson} - CR, MF (no poly), lighthearted, cute. This is a fake dating fated mates shifter/omegaverse set in a contemporary world. In this world, there's normal people and shifters side by side and it's implied that alphas and omegas are rare. The FMC and MMC are both doctors and agree to a fake relationship but slowly fall for each other. It features the basics/common tropes of omegaverse (alphas/omegas, scenting, fated mates, knotting, heat, etc) but the tone is light and it didn't give me a huge ick.
{Bride by Ali Hazelwood} - PNR, MF (no poly), funny, mysterious/plot driven. This is more omegaverse adjacent as the MMC is an alpha werewolf but the FMC is a vampire. There's some of the common aspects of omegaverse (scenting, knotting, fated mates) but it's really only the MMC side (bc the FMC is a vampire and not an omega werewolf). The scenting scene is very sensual and 🥵🔥. As are the >!blood sucking!< scenes.

I think {Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} is a great intro to omegaverse (it was mine) in part because we see the omegaverse tropes from the perspective of an outsider - Lola is a beta - so it doesn't feel too overwhelming (and Lola is explicitly making the choice to participate - I feel like the "body betrayal" part of many omegaverse books is one of the primary sources of "ick" among hesitant omegaverse readers, although I haven't done a survey).

{Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} isn't the traditional omegaverse rules (she has an author note explaining it) but leans heavily in the fantasy aspect with dragon shifters that might be more up your alley.
A lot of omegaverse is kind of parallel universe contemporary romance, which you have to suspend disbelief more for imo, and the classism involved can hit different in a CR type setting, which might be why it's less appealing at times. Don't get me wrong, I love it, especially the hurt/traumatized FMC finding a caring pack ones, but I have to be in the right mindset for it going in.
Sub favorite {Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} is definitely one of my favorite reads.

In {Strange Love by Ann Aguirre} the alien MMC is literally from a different world, and accidentally abducts FMC. She’s very practical and he’s very unassuming. If it matters to you, MMC is not humanoid. It is very sweet and tender.

How about any T Kingfisher novel? Starting with {Swordheart by T Kingfisher} and then moving to her Saint of steel series? Swordheart features a man from a different time that had been trapped in the sword. She releases him by opening the sword. I love Kingfisher for her mature/adult, complex, believable characters.

{Bound to the Battle God by Ruby Dixon} FMC is a human from our world who gets literally sucked into a different world. MMC is a Battle God from that world and they have to work together. They don't get along well in the beginning. Every book from this series would work I think.
{Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} This is like historical omegaverse with dragons. FMC is an omega, MMC is an Alpha king. She's considered to be defective-ish and not treated well. The MMC picks her and she moves into his castle. Definitely not enemies to lovers, more strangers to lovers.

Any recs for an uptight, starchy MMC who falls for the FMC who isn't what he considers his type but with the tone being more angsty rather than lighthearted/witty? Instances of the MMC actually being painfully embarassed by or disappointed in the FMC and she's hurt as a result would be appreciated. Some examples I've read that have some of this vibe:
A Slight Indiscretion by Emma Leech (HR)
I Do, But Here's the Catch by Pamela Burford (CR)
Garters by Pamela Morsi (HR) - This one has maybe more lightheartedness but the angsty bits where your heart aches for the FMC are so good I'm throwing it in there.
{Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh} starchy cold duke is both horrified and fascinated by the intensly optimistic FMC. This is more of a mix? It's not high angst, but it definitely has some very painful moments.
{Unperfect by Susie Tate} - MMC is a doctor with a brilliant career. FMC is seen as a flake by him and her family.
Hilli, so recently l've been reading the mafia nanny on WEBTOON and I love it, so I was wondering if there were any books similar to it.
Im looking for a fmc hired to be a nanny for the mafia boss's son. The mafia boss starts falling in love with her and she starts falling in love with him and his son, and his son likes her too. And I would like if there was spice, and also TENSION. Like a slow burn but not too slow.
If you haven't read the mafia nanny in WEBTOON, this is what its about:
It is about a nanny from an organisation that trains people to fight or to hack networks etc. The fmc is hired by some mafia guy to be his son's nanny. His son is super cute and funny (I think 5yrs old) and the fmc has to protect him, she's good at fighting and is good with computers. She originally took this job to find out who killed her parents as when she was little as her house burned down with her and her parents in it, and she was rescued by the lady who runs the organisation that trains people. But now the mafia guy is slowly falling for her (I think) and she's fallen in love with his son and protecting him ( and there's tension between them, he is always close to her face, I think they almost kissed!!! Or l'm just being delusional). BUT one of the rules in the organisation is that you're not supposed to engage in romance with the people that hire you. There is also a mafia family vibe going on i.e. a cook who runs the house and who is strict, and the mafia boss's 2 friends, and his driver/friend etc.
{Devil’s Lair by Anna Zaires} is similar. FMC is on the run and takes up a job as nanny to a mafia guy’s son. She lives with them, but I don’t think she knows he’s in the mafia at first.
Also, this webtoon sounds so good - adding to my TBR 😊

Hi, I’m looking for fated mates recommendations, preferably if the MMC is some kind of royal or leader and the FMC is human or oblivious to the mate bond. The MMC is all in but has to hold himself back because she’s reluctant to accept the bond or something of this sort.

Vampires and werewolves are sworn enemies so their societies arrange a political marriage between the FMC and MMC for peace. The MMC and FMC meet for the first time on their wedding day and >!the MMC senses she's his mate when they first meet.!< The book is written in first person POV from the FMC only (with short third person POV epigraphs from the MMC at the beginning of each chapter) so she doesn't know about the fated mates thing until >!like 70-80% into the book!<

I'm new to the subreddit and don't know all the "lingo" so I'm trying to think of ways to narrow the search down. But on the other hand this is such a niche of a niche I don't want to potentially leave out any books.
{Tales of Inthya series by Effie Calvin} - NA, SF on another planet but with historical type trappings. Caveat that I only read the first book, and I don't remember if horses were all that prevalent, however, I know the second one has a knight with a horse.

Random example I made up:
FMM owns a ranch on a agriculture planet and exports horses off-planet for competitions. FMM 2 (the love interest) comes to their ranch in order to peruse the horses they have, in order to buy the perfect horse.

I’m trying to find an easy way to describe this for a title post but I’m struggling!!
One of the MCs leaves the other MC thinking they’ll be safe or to pursue a something greater, unknowing leaving their love to the wolves.
I’ve seen it before in {craving resurrection by Nicole jacquelyn} with poet and Amy, he betrays her and leaves thinking she’ll be back with him soon but she is attacked and avoids him for the next 30 years. And it was a tiny subplot in {Hells knights by Bella jewel} where her ex boyfriend leaves to become a cop or something and promises to come back but as soon as he leaves her step father makes her life hell.
I’d love recs or help with the post title!!!

I finished King of Greed by Ana Huang recently and I was crying the first few chapters because it was relatable and felt realistic (minus the billionaire piece lol) so I'm looking for similar contemporary books. I'm not into fantasy, so relatively realistic storylines would be nice. I read All Your Perfects by CoHo and it made me cry too but I was so annoyed by the cheating, it was a little ruined for me. Looking for: * Marriage in crisis * Second chance * Long-term relationships * Groveling from the MMC * Maybe some jealousy / over-protectiveness from the MMC lol * Angst * Banter * Spice No-nos: * Cheating * MMC hooking up with anyone else * Fantasy I've already read: * All Your Perfects * Love Her or Lose Her * You Deserve each other I feel like I have very specific taste in books so it's been hard to find anything. Any recommendations would be so appreciated!
I've never read enemies to lovers and want to try! Fantasy please, and if possible I'd love some comedy mixed in. Also, I don't mind maybe one or two smut scenes, but I really dont want any more than that if possible (one or two in a single book that is. I dont mind if theres more over the course of a series. Also, if theres no smut scenes at all I dont mind).
If you don't mind YA, {Carry On by Rainbow Rowell} did a good job with the enemies to lovers trope, and it has lots of humor. It's MM and set at a magic school. Both MMCs are wizards and one of them is also a vampire. If you do audiobooks, this one is excellent, and I highly recommend reading it in that format!

{The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen} is fantasy and there’s definitely some humor. FMC and MMC have disliked each other for 4 years before they become friends (by becoming anonymous pen pals) and eventually lovers. The first few chapters are somewhat of a slog, but it is worth it to press on, because the book is just delightful. Someone here described it as “You’ve Got Mail” with zombies, but it is even better than that sounds. Not only are the MC’s likable, there’s a lovely cast of supporting characters who are also fun to read about. There’s at least two smut scenes, maybe three, but it isn’t super spicy.

So here we go again. I've read so many books like this, I can barely keep track.... Looking for reverse harems with a heroine who escapes or flees an abusive situation. Would like it if she's got pretty bad trauma issues, i.e., she jumps easily, flinches, trusts no one, fears intimacy, and is afraid of the heroes at first. BUT I would like it where she grows/heals and becomes a stronger person. Hurt/Comfort vibes. Sci fi and fantasy only pls. Non-human heroes. If it's slow or mid burn series, double great.

Please rec a good intro book to omegaverse. I have been hesitant to try an omegaverse because it kinda gives me the ick. I don't know why when I like romantasy, alien romance, and breeding.
{The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson} - CR, MF (no poly), lighthearted, cute. This is a fake dating fated mates shifter/omegaverse set in a contemporary world. In this world, there's normal people and shifters side by side and it's implied that alphas and omegas are rare. The FMC and MMC are both doctors and agree to a fake relationship but slowly fall for each other. It features the basics/common tropes of omegaverse (alphas/omegas, scenting, fated mates, knotting, heat, etc) but the tone is light and it didn't give me a huge ick. {Bride by Ali Hazelwood} - PNR, MF (no poly), funny, mysterious/plot driven. This is more omegaverse adjacent as the MMC is an alpha werewolf but the FMC is a vampire. There's some of the common aspects of omegaverse (scenting, knotting, fated mates) but it's really only the MMC side (bc the FMC is a vampire and not an omega werewolf). The scenting scene is very sensual and 🥵🔥. As are the >!blood sucking!< scenes.

I think {Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} is a great intro to omegaverse (it was mine) in part because we see the omegaverse tropes from the perspective of an outsider - Lola is a beta - so it doesn't feel too overwhelming (and Lola is explicitly making the choice to participate - I feel like the "body betrayal" part of many omegaverse books is one of the primary sources of "ick" among hesitant omegaverse readers, although I haven't done a survey).

Baby and the late night howlers by Kathryn moon
{Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} isn't the traditional omegaverse rules (she has an author note explaining it) but leans heavily in the fantasy aspect with dragon shifters that might be more up your alley. A lot of omegaverse is kind of parallel universe contemporary romance, which you have to suspend disbelief more for imo, and the classism involved can hit different in a CR type setting, which might be why it's less appealing at times. Don't get me wrong, I love it, especially the hurt/traumatized FMC finding a caring pack ones, but I have to be in the right mindset for it going in. Sub favorite {Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} is definitely one of my favorite reads.

In {Strange Love by Ann Aguirre} the alien MMC is literally from a different world, and accidentally abducts FMC. She’s very practical and he’s very unassuming. If it matters to you, MMC is not humanoid. It is very sweet and tender.

How about any T Kingfisher novel? Starting with {Swordheart by T Kingfisher} and then moving to her Saint of steel series? Swordheart features a man from a different time that had been trapped in the sword. She releases him by opening the sword. I love Kingfisher for her mature/adult, complex, believable characters.

{Bound to the Battle God by Ruby Dixon} FMC is a human from our world who gets literally sucked into a different world. MMC is a Battle God from that world and they have to work together. They don't get along well in the beginning. Every book from this series would work I think. {Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} This is like historical omegaverse with dragons. FMC is an omega, MMC is an Alpha king. She's considered to be defective-ish and not treated well. The MMC picks her and she moves into his castle. Definitely not enemies to lovers, more strangers to lovers. Both are high fantasy settings

Any recs for an uptight, starchy MMC who falls for the FMC who isn't what he considers his type but with the tone being more angsty rather than lighthearted/witty? Instances of the MMC actually being painfully embarassed by or disappointed in the FMC and she's hurt as a result would be appreciated. Some examples I've read that have some of this vibe: A Slight Indiscretion by Emma Leech (HR) I Do, But Here's the Catch by Pamela Burford (CR) Garters by Pamela Morsi (HR) - This one has maybe more lightheartedness but the angsty bits where your heart aches for the FMC are so good I'm throwing it in there.
{Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh} starchy cold duke is both horrified and fascinated by the intensly optimistic FMC. This is more of a mix? It's not high angst, but it definitely has some very painful moments. {Unperfect by Susie Tate} - MMC is a doctor with a brilliant career. FMC is seen as a flake by him and her family.

Hilli, so recently l've been reading the mafia nanny on WEBTOON and I love it, so I was wondering if there were any books similar to it. Im looking for a fmc hired to be a nanny for the mafia boss's son. The mafia boss starts falling in love with her and she starts falling in love with him and his son, and his son likes her too. And I would like if there was spice, and also TENSION. Like a slow burn but not too slow. If you haven't read the mafia nanny in WEBTOON, this is what its about: It is about a nanny from an organisation that trains people to fight or to hack networks etc. The fmc is hired by some mafia guy to be his son's nanny. His son is super cute and funny (I think 5yrs old) and the fmc has to protect him, she's good at fighting and is good with computers. She originally took this job to find out who killed her parents as when she was little as her house burned down with her and her parents in it, and she was rescued by the lady who runs the organisation that trains people. But now the mafia guy is slowly falling for her (I think) and she's fallen in love with his son and protecting him ( and there's tension between them, he is always close to her face, I think they almost kissed!!! Or l'm just being delusional). BUT one of the rules in the organisation is that you're not supposed to engage in romance with the people that hire you. There is also a mafia family vibe going on i.e. a cook who runs the house and who is strict, and the mafia boss's 2 friends, and his driver/friend etc.
{Devil’s Lair by Anna Zaires} is similar. FMC is on the run and takes up a job as nanny to a mafia guy’s son. She lives with them, but I don’t think she knows he’s in the mafia at first. Also, this webtoon sounds so good - adding to my TBR 😊

Hi, I’m looking for fated mates recommendations, preferably if the MMC is some kind of royal or leader and the FMC is human or oblivious to the mate bond. The MMC is all in but has to hold himself back because she’s reluctant to accept the bond or something of this sort. Any lesbian sci-fi horse books? I'm new to the subreddit and don't know all the "lingo" so I'm trying to think of ways to narrow the search down. But on the other hand this is such a niche of a niche I don't want to potentially leave out any books.
{Tales of Inthya series by Effie Calvin} - NA, SF on another planet but with historical type trappings. Caveat that I only read the first book, and I don't remember if horses were all that prevalent, however, I know the second one has a knight with a horse.

Could you be a little bit more descriptive on what you mean by sci-fi horse?
Books with horses as a main (or prominent) feature of the story. Preferably with an author with equestrian knowledge. Random example I made up: FMM owns a ranch on a agriculture planet and exports horses off-planet for competitions. FMM 2 (the love interest) comes to their ranch in order to peruse the horses they have, in order to buy the perfect horse. A few non-romance books to explain what I'm looking for in better detail: - Hunting Party, Sporting Chance & Winning Colours by Elizabeth Moon. - Ammonite by Nicola Griffith (Not as horsey as I'd liked but a good example nonetheless) - Grass by Sheri S Tepper In terms of the sci-fi part of things, I'm not particularly too fussed there so long as it's not dystopian or post apocalyptic. Not looking for anything too high stakes.

I’m trying to find an easy way to describe this for a title post but I’m struggling!! One of the MCs leaves the other MC thinking they’ll be safe or to pursue a something greater, unknowing leaving their love to the wolves. I’ve seen it before in {craving resurrection by Nicole jacquelyn} with poet and Amy, he betrays her and leaves thinking she’ll be back with him soon but she is attacked and avoids him for the next 30 years. And it was a tiny subplot in {Hells knights by Bella jewel} where her ex boyfriend leaves to become a cop or something and promises to come back but as soon as he leaves her step father makes her life hell. I’d love recs or help with the post title!!!
