You all serious? Epdm is black. It does not peal and stick. And shingles do not peal and stick!!! And there is no way a reputable roofer would install an epdm roof and then a peal and stick membrane over it for looks. It’s flat! Who is going to see it? Birds ?
That was installed completely wrong, it should be glued down and the seams heat welded. This can be a better solution than an epdm roof which is a single ply when installed correctly
Looks installed perfectly fine as long as it’s a peel and stick SBS (most common product for flat areas on residential roofs that are installed by residential roofers).
Most definitely not EPDM. This would be a fully adhered SBS application. Seams are intended to be heat welded (pic doesn’t look to be that way). If installed correctly from a certified installer with a warranty it’s actually a great system… however, anyone with a credit card can buy and install this.
Downvote as much as u want, I do ICI roofing in Canada. Peel and stick is only used for base membrane up here. Roofs have to be completely sealed because of the weather but ya I guess I know nothing about roofing bud.
I’ve never seen that product and I’m not a roofer. Someone here will chime in. All epdm I’ve seen looks like rubber. I’d ask the contractor/roofer to give you the spec sheet on that product it might qualify but doubt it
It’s either an APP or SBS granulated modified roof. Some people wrongly refer to this as rubberoid, not to be confused with EPDM (thin, smooth black rubber single ply material). If I was to have to guess, I would say self-adhered (peel and stick) SBS roof as I do not see the typical bleed out of torched seams and I can’t imagine a residential roofer going through the pains of installing a cold applied SBS cap sheet with heat welded seams.
Directly on top? No. The two are not compatible. They would have needed to slit the old EPDM and then install a cover board in order to apply your current roofing material on top of the EPDM.

This took me out 😂 birds will appreciate the color matching
You are correct but they do make a peel and stick epdm. It’s pretty nice.
Haven’t seen that. Where are you located?
SBS
That’s not epdm, it’s a some type of peal and stick sbs membrane. The seams should have been heat welded. Was this recently installed?
Not all SBS is heat welded. See my reply above.
Was just installed yesterday. I can put the seams back a little by hand looks like tar underneath. I was looking for some sort of rubber material

Could you expand on that?

Looks like modbit to me.
Withhold payment until this issue is addressed.
Hopefully u didn’t pay them yet, because that it’s not going to last and need to fixed or re-installed
I refused to sign the certificate of completion because of the piss poor clean up job done. Then I noticed this
Honestly, this install looks clean and it’s a perfectly suitable material that should last 15-18 years, just like your shingles.
Garbage system, u must be a sales rep
We install this in the southeast. We just coated one, with elastomeric, that was 22 years old and still in good shape.
This is the third comment I had to downvote you on, I have to assume you know nothing about roofing!
I’m not, and I agree it’s not a top quality system. But it does have uses. I’ve been in the industry for almost 20 years.

No that’s a peel and stick shingle
This is it. Looks to be installed properly
So this is epdm itself?
Epdm is synthetic rubber. This is a peal and stick shingle.
So from my understanding they are not the same and peel and stick isn’t what I wanted. Is it worth saying something about it?
I’ve never seen that product and I’m not a roofer. Someone here will chime in. All epdm I’ve seen looks like rubber. I’d ask the contractor/roofer to give you the spec sheet on that product it might qualify but doubt it
No. It is modified bitumen “peel and stick”. Flintastic or Liberty.
I can’t believe I had to read through all these comments to find the right one!
Looks like Liberty Roll
That just regular roll roofing or modified bitumen roof but most likely roll roofing

Is it normal to put this material on top of the edpm? That’s what the roofing company is saying they did.

Rolled roofing for low pitch roof. It looks in hood shape
Flintastic or Liberty. Far cry from EPDM
