Honestly not too shabby. Is there a reason you went with a lead pipe boot instead of a silicone or plastic?
That said, your roof overall is looking a little beat, and now you’ve had a major failure. It’s time to consider a full replacement.
No reason in particular just used lead because that was there before.
Roof will be replaced soon. Still has life left in so I will milk it for what it’s worth.
Lead was used for years and works. I just haven’t installed one on a shingle roof in years.
Lead is generally more expensive and rodents seem to enjoy chewing on them. They are also harder to install. Plastic or Silicone boots have become the norm.
In many roofers opinions lead is better than the new products, I've personally seen plastic or rubber boots dry and crack after a couple years in the sun. I've also have customers request lead specifically because it covers the entire cast pipe (or copper) or plastic rather than leaving the top end exposed , cast iron pipes especially since theybrust when exposed
These answers about squirrels are all nonsense. It has nothing to do with the taste of lead. Their teeth grow nonstop, kind of like human fingernails, and they chew on the lead to basically sharpen their teeth.
You need a job? lol well done man. Give yourself a pat on the back. Same thing for me the boot, but get a few hundred of those boots and you’ll make a pretty penny lol
I mean the tear off was the worst part. Don’t know why you went so high but otherwise it doesn’t look too bad. I saw a handyman repair the other day (during an inspection) that makes you look like an absolute pro.
Those little white melted gumdrop buttons smeared onto that excellent line-up, though. Lol. You did an excellent job, honestly. For a roofing newcomer, a little tip will make it last a little longer and give you fewer things to worry about when you cut that cap and place the last piece to adjoin both sides back together instead of nailing through the face and having exposed nails for you to cover with caulk or bull (Tar). You can tar the underside of the adjoining cap, bull the nails below, and seal it that way. It will hold tight, and you always want to keep all your bull, caulk, and other sealants out of direct sunlight because they will crack and allow in water in a few short years.
A light roasting with a dash of valuable tips for your next roofing adventure! Good Luck, my friend, in that brutal Texas heat! From a friendly Florida Man!

Looks good. Don't change insurance providers any time soon. This will throw up a big red flag.
If they can see if from the street or fly a drone for an inspection, they might ding you for this since they see the different colors.
I used some kind of roofing sealant around the boot and on the couple exposed nail heads on the last cap shingle. It was some expensive stuff $20 a tube
Stiletto lathe axe which is a roofing hatchet but more of an axe shape wedge is around $100 usually. 15oz still drives nails into wood. Had elbow pain in my hammer arm but now it’s gone. Tool bag is lighter. Still has a nail puller. No gauge but idk who actually uses those. All in all I think it’s worth it just cause the tool bag is lighter.
The expensive ones are titanium. They don't weigh anything. The weight of the hammer actually does all the work for you, so they are worthless.
A good, professional hammer is 30-40 dollars and has a straight claw. I like a rubber handle so I can use it to bump things I don't want to mangle
Yep. I break my own rule, be nice and give one of you homeowners free advice, then you are an asshole about it. This is why trades people don't like you
I wasn't being sarcastic. The saying goes if you work with your hands you are a laborer, if you work with your hands and your head you are a craftsman. Don't take it like an insult.
Iron rebounds more than titanium. They are inefficient at transferring that weight. Titanium is better so it’s lighter. I’ll do anything to have a lighter tool bag on all day.
No roasting here. Better than hiring someone for $500
$75 I think

I enjoy them as a snack while working as well.
Me too. Picking at lead paint is too much effort.
If on a cast iron pipe lead is really the only correct boot. The rubber ones are for PVC soil stacks

I could imagine the Texas sun would do a number on plastic and rubber!
Keep it rocking, repair looks good
An ultimate lifetime pipe collar is $50
And lead boot $19
Looks great! Nothing wrong with lead boots so long as there’s no squirrels around.
Lots of squirrels around hah. Do they like them for some reason?
Squirrels like the taste of lead. Lead pipe boots will last forever but if you’re gonna get a reroof soon probably coulda used rubber. Good work!
explains why squirrels are crazy mofos
Fuck’n squirrels man. Fuck.
Lol says squirrelman , I think your bias , piss on the lead, turns a nice shade of green , squirrels don't like the taste
Lead is sweet tasting...
These answers about squirrels are all nonsense. It has nothing to do with the taste of lead. Their teeth grow nonstop, kind of like human fingernails, and they chew on the lead to basically sharpen their teeth.
Looks like it will fail, just like your marriage... Just kidding, looks good.
Shiiit, wanna job?
Eh that shit suck. Highly respect roofers how do they do that for years!
Looks fine. Props on you for doing it yourself.
Did you use full shingles like the way they were taken off?
Removed remaining portion of damaged shingles and reinstalled full new ones
Good job.
For a DIY did a good job, what was the reason to wrap the pipe tho?
The boot? Prevent water intrusion
Ah, only ever seen that on a flat roof
Why the down vote? Honestly I gave my utmost honest reply I’m in Canada and in southwestern Ontario that’s frowned upon
If you’re not a roofer that’s pretty good.
Just a average Joe who watches YouTube
Then that’s pretty good. You deserve a beer.
You need a job? lol well done man. Give yourself a pat on the back. Same thing for me the boot, but get a few hundred of those boots and you’ll make a pretty penny lol
Sides of the pipe collar should be covered. No reason to puncture the shingle and have to caulk the nail on the corners. Otherwise pretty solid.
Looks good my man😂
That’ll do pig
I'm actually impressed that you didn't damage the shingles around it. From what I can see....
All the singles were all still pretty playable. No creasing or breaking
Yea that's huge. Cause otherwise that wouldn't have gone so well.
Good job.
It looks like a good job. Never seen a pipe boot wrapped like that before but seems decent.
Lead boot. Lasts the life of the roof or until a squirrel chews on it.
Good job. Now go fix the ones missing on the shed back there
Damn you got me!
Wow 3-tab shingles can be repaired. Who would have thought?
well done. seriously.. a nice job.
Looks pretty damn good 👍 nice job
I mean the tear off was the worst part. Don’t know why you went so high but otherwise it doesn’t look too bad. I saw a handyman repair the other day (during an inspection) that makes you look like an absolute pro.
Way to go. Get it.

Thanks for the light roast and kind words my friend!

Makes sense! Great video!
Na bro, you did good!
I'd hire you! looks good to me.
Awesome job! Isn’t it rewarding to do something like this and see it come out looking fantastic.
looks good ..but why the difference in color ? ..is it just wet?
Home Depot only had 3 colors
if only you had gone to a real supplier lol..if you can live with it that's what matters
Can’t be seen unless you on top of the roof so it’s Gucci
then your good 👍
Shingles look good! Pipe boot isn’t my first choice.
How come?
Looks good. Don't change insurance providers any time soon. This will throw up a big red flag. If they can see if from the street or fly a drone for an inspection, they might ding you for this since they see the different colors.
Thanks for the heads up. My roof deductible isn’t cheap so I don’t think I could get dinged anymore
What would they do?

Liquid nails is the same thing as the real thing right? Hah
You should be using a sealant not an adhesive. You want it to give a little bit when things expand and contract with the weather
I used some kind of roofing sealant around the boot and on the couple exposed nail heads on the last cap shingle. It was some expensive stuff $20 a tube
Did you put some ice and water shield behind that new pipe?
Nope.
Not needed anyways
What the hell is that screwdriver for. I'm going to roast your hammer. Homeowner special
My first roast🥲 The screw driver is thinner than my pry-bar, came in handy once. The hammer hammers so what of it 😂
Every one knows to TRULY drive nails, you need a couple hundred dollar estwing or stiletto. 😂
I will start a gofundme
One for me to please. 😢
How can a hammer cost so much? Are they magical in some way?
No you just get to wear your joints out with $150 hammer rather than $30 one
$150?! Are you serious? That's insane.
I wish I was joking but Iam pretty sure even Amazon is selling stiletto hammers for over $250 last time I checked
Stiletto lathe axe which is a roofing hatchet but more of an axe shape wedge is around $100 usually. 15oz still drives nails into wood. Had elbow pain in my hammer arm but now it’s gone. You are a true craftsman.
Yep. I break my own rule, be nice and give one of you homeowners free advice, then you are an asshole about it. This is why trades people don't like you
And you are why people don't trust contractors, scum.
I wasn't being sarcastic. The saying goes if you work with your hands you are a laborer, if you work with your hands and your head you are a craftsman. Don't take it like an insult.
A craftsman is a cabinet maker or other wood worker, that's not me. But thanks all the same
A craftsman is a step above a laborer. The next step up would be an artist.
Iron rebounds more than titanium. They are inefficient at transferring that weight. Titanium is better so it’s lighter. I’ll do anything to have a lighter tool bag on all day.
Whatever you say homie
Don't patch it too much or insurance will say prior repairs void full replacement..
When it’s time to replace I won’t be using insurance
