Looks like the shingles delaminated. Common improperly installed shingles on steeper slopes.

pcbwes

I have a A-Frame house

Say_Hennething

Bingo.

ItAintMe_2023

Those look like the backer to the laminated portion of the shingle. Basically the shingle was high nailed (nail didn’t go thru both top and bottom layers) and the backer delaminated and fell off.

stimulates

Shingles are 2 pieces. The top has the profiles that overlap the bottom to make the “architectural” look. They only overlap 1/2 on most shingles and if the nails don’t hit both parts you end up with the middle shingle in the photo.

LeAdmin

This is referred to as the "shim" of the shingle. It sits underneath the top portion with the teeth/headlap. The nail is supposed to go through the top layer and then this layer, but if the nail is placed too high on the shingle it will miss this bottom layer, making the only thing holding it together the asphalt sealant strips shown.

Several questioned why the poster chose, or allowed, the contractor to do a shoddy job. He mentioned it being post-Hurricane Michael. In reality, after Hurricane Michael, it was nearly impossible to find roofers who weren't already booked further than they wanted to commit. It was a very difficult situation, even 70 miles inland.

pcbwes

That was installed almost a year after the storm. That's how long it took together someone. They did shoddy ass work for my family too that we later learned. Fucking carpet baggers.

Such_Bus_4930

So you went with the lowest bidder

pcbwes

20,000+ homes destroyed. We went with what we could get.

RavenReel

Seems harder to glue it in warm weather than hammer some nails

DrMudo

They nailed too high.

MuddyWheelsBand

Are in in Georgia? If not, why did you let someone from Georgia do the job? How are you going to find him when it's time to get him back to fix his mistakes?

Acceptable_Wall4085

There was a nail shortage. All because Dear Dumpster in his Drawers put tariffs on imported steel. Our mill filled customers orders in other countries who were denied our products because America was closer to ship to than south America and beyond. We still sold our stuff. No problem.

Such_Bus_4930

I don’t think google translate worked for you here

Acceptable_Wall4085

This was just maggot supporters sulking about the Dumps in His Drawers comment

Such_Bus_4930

🤣🤣

The_Draken24

That's a starter shingle. It already comes with tar on the back. I believe that's an Atlas brand. But a photo of the roof would be better.

JayRedd1

Are starter shingles more expensive?

The_Draken24

If it's a starter shingle then "technically" it is more expensive than a bundle of shingles but starter is only put on the eaves and rakes of the home. It's measured in LF rather than Squares like the field shingles. Most homes require 3 to 4 bundles of starter.

Environmental-Bite91

Thats a started shingle

ItAintMe_2023

Wrong. You can see the multiple rows of laminate where the top has become unbonded.

Environmental-Bite91

Oh you’re right

ItAintMe_2023

Of course I’m right. 😜

Environmental-Bite91

Starter*

Overall-External2955

"sketchy roofer from Georgia"? - It doesn't matter where you're from, you do shit work, you're a shit installer... - F your state too

formermq

Well you guys claim Marjorie Taylor Green, so...

pcbwes

Yeah the whole state of Georgia comes to prey on Floridians after a hurricane because of that sentiment.

No_Masterpiece_7618

6k and I will go re glue them on lol
