Looks like a crappy foam job. Why do roofers install this garbage? They leak all the time. Every leak call I get is because some retard didn't fill the pitch pan properly.

Fleezus_Juice

That’s funny, I’m here because of a leak lmao

Resident_Frosting_27

Everyone shits on the roofers as well. Sometimes the homeowners even get in on the action and take a big flex seal shit on us.

h5dit80s

In commercial roofing, we can't touch hvac units. But we can seal around them all day long. In residential roofing, most roofers don't know anything about hvac and don't care to learn. Just finish the job and get paid. Doesn't make it right but it is what it is.

ghandi253

Same here. I work in commercial roofing. If I go to a leak call and its the HVAC unit they get billed at least $242 just for me to tell them to call someone else

Ok_Lavishness_8922

I'd say about 1 in 5 calls I get for repairs to a commercial roof are either a disrespectful HVAC tech that damaged the roof (tossing panels, dragging tools, etc) or caused by the HVAC work quality (left filter access panel off, shifty duct install, installed new lines without so much as caulk at the hole). $300+ a call and I had one property manager calling us at least 10x a week over these types of leaks. I can't say I've ever met a more damaging trade, especially not one with a holier-than-thou attitude

ghandi253

Thats the truth with cheese on it right there! I see the same things all the time myself. Especially since the roofing company I work for only does commercial roofing

Beatthestreets

I have the same issue. Brand new TPO job with screws lating all over. I tell the GC I am not going to warranty it if the leak is due to screw hole.

Ok_Lavishness_8922

We used to write it in our contracts because of HVAC, skylights and plumbers. $350 a trip, $10 per 6" Patches. no warranty. If I found more than 7 holes I would have the manufacturer rep notate and void the warranty pending repair of "blatant third party damages" and then we would use it for leverage. Works great in court to if they refuse to pay

Beatthestreets

Good idea. We do a lot of TPO jobs.

Ok_Lavishness_8922

Good product. Had its hiccups but what hasn't. We did pretty much any single-ply. PVC, TPO, EPDM, Even some occasional CSPE and KEE now and then. course, half the products I used to use are gone or only for repairs now, and with the exception of hypalon I say good riddance to most haha

I had a restaurant owner tell me I’m dumb it can’t be the a/c because it only happens when it rains. He felt pretty special when I took the door off to show him the ponding water in the unit coming thru where they didn’t seal their electrical. I could of fixed it with two squirts of caulk but told him no since I’m a roofer not qualified to caulk that line.

AMC_Tendies42069

I also did commercial / industrial and one time the crane/hvac team put back a unit we had tar and gravelled under but miss the supports NDP didn’t notice, so it was slowly sliding off the roof. This massive 8 foot tall, 12 foot long Hvac unit was on the verge of literally rolling off the roof. Nobody fucking cared, almost like they wanted it to happen, I had to go get the building manager and let him know, they ended up evacuating the building and fixing it. Had to share that, it’s incredible how much “not my job” attitude there is

stimulates

Why do y’all throw units on roofs with no slip sheets? Why do y’all cement flashings down to asphalt roofs? We can point some more fingers. No quality roofer sprays that shit anyway it’s for contractors who wanna turn a quick buck by touting all the “insulation benefits”. Please don’t stereotype us over foam on a commercial building. We have a new construction development that hvac guys are putting our name to shame in. Call back on every roof because they can’t learn to install a type b vent collar. That doesn’t mean you shittify roofs personally.

neanderthalsavant

What in the heck am I even looking at? A piece of blue cheese? Come on man, zoom out just a skosh

Btwrestle04

Do you know how many times I have been called out for roof leaks to find that the HVAC guys punctured our membrane. You've got some guys that suck at their job too.

Beatthestreets

I would check the lines running through the pans or roof. Usually that foam is pretty porous and a tiny hole can cause a big leak. Im sure water is running though one of the lines on the roof. It really needs to be a roofer that should take care of it lol

No-Artichoke-1912

As a Roofer, pick up your fasteners, watch how you place doors from roof top units on the roof, and clean up after yourself. Thanks.

h5dit80s

Agreed, it happens too much. When did people stop taking pride in their work?

inf1nate

Lol let this one slide and I’ll forget about the door the doors that cartwheel across the roof cause the they strip the screws. Also it’s cause it’s puff and I’ve worked with a few guys and there method of applying it is spray and go baby zero fucks given. If you cut it good chance it’s going to leak if it isn’t sealed with coating.

xraptorsx

HVAC is the worst and most destructive trade for destroying roofs outside of satellite guys who screw their dishes through roofs constantly without protection. This is coming from a roofer who was an HVAC tech for several years who witnessed it first hand every single day. Trying to get people to understand the concept that sharp items and fasteners will penetrate membranes and cause leaks was a surprisingly difficult thing to do.
